Camila Morrone is ‘frustrated’ with only being known as ‘Leo DiCaprio’s girlfriend’

Leonardo Dicaprio and Camila Morrone still going strong! Couple walks hand-in-hand during a romantic stroll in NYC

Camila Morrone is featured in WSJ. Magazine’s “The 10 Biggest Rising Talents in Hollywood” thing. It’s because she’s an actress, for sure, but do we really think that she would be included in these kinds of listicles if she wasn’t dating Leonardo DiCaprio? For what it’s worth – not much – I think Leo and Camila seem pretty happy with each other. They’ve been happening for TWO YEARS, which is great news until you realize that the only reason Camila is still happening is because they started dating when she was 20. She’s 22 now. Three more years until she ages out of Leo’s Girlfriend Experience. Sorry, those are the rules, Camila. One of the rules is also a Fight Club rule: no talking about the Girlfriend Experience. It’s a rule Camila has already broken a few times, even though she didn’t get crazy-personal. She did it again in her WSJ. Magazine profile:

Camila Morrone is opening up about the difficulties of being thrown into the spotlight — especially when dating an A-listers like Leonardo DiCaprio. The 22-year old actress — who is featured in WSJ Magazine’s Young Hollywood Portfolio — admitted that the attention she’s received from her relationship with DiCaprio, 45, doesn’t come without its downsides.

“More exposure leads to more judgment and negativity,” the up-and-coming actress said. “It’s a little bit of a bummer because you’re really trying to do good work and be nice and be a good person, and in the meantime…people wish negative things upon you.”

Despite the backlash, Morrone told the outlet that she is able to keep the comments from getting to her head. “It would never take away the joy of the craft that I get to do,” she added.

Morrone, who made a name for herself modeling before she turned to acting, said she understands why people are interested in her relationship with DiCaprio, saying, “I probably would be curious about it, too.” Despite that, Morrone said she looks forward to a time when she begins to gain recognition for her work and talent.

“I think more and more now that people are seeing the film, I’m slowly getting an identity outside of that,” she said. “Which is frustrating, because I feel like there should always be an identity besides who you’re dating.” She added, “I understand the association, but I’m confident that will continue to slip away and be less of a conversation.”

[From People]

I feel a little bit bad for her, because… Leo doesn’t really do that anymore. He doesn’t date big-name actresses or big-name models since Gisele and arguably Bar Refaeli. His goal is to date lesser known young women, models or actresses, and then they build their profile as a model or actress through their association with him. I’m not sure that Leo does it consciously, or if it’s just part of his Girlfriend Experience or whatever. But that’s the way it goes, Camila. As long as she’s with Leo, she’ll always be “Leo’s Girlfriend.” Plus, having her career take the backseat to him and his interests is what he wants too.

Here’s a question: now that Leo has been nominated across the board for OUATIH, will Camila attend any events WITH him, officially? Probably not. And that sucks too.

Thankfully when you turn 25 you won’t have that problem anymore.

She deserves better than to have been groomed by him since she was 10.

    • Laura says:

Yeah I try not to judge big age gaps but he’s really starting to push into the downright creepy zone.

    • Biff says:

THIS!! It’s become a goal for me to remind everybody about this in every article about them, since everyone stopped mentioning it when they became official. He is a certified creep now.

    • Jamie says:

I literally LOL’d at that first sentence.

    • Starkille says:

And that’s what I think the “backlash” is about. No one cares that elderly perverts date women half their age, that’s just life. Tale as old as time. The “backlash” is entirely because he has been grooming her since she was a YOUNG child.

    • starwise says:

Is it just me or does she look like she’s 34 in the header pic??? WAY older than her actual age of 22….is it fillers or does she just have a mature face? It’s sad bc so many young women that don’t need it get the work and it’s like nooooo don’t do this so early, girl!

    • INTERPOL says:

well Leo, himself, is definitely never coming out while alive, that’s for sure. See: Rock Hudson. Leo isn’t a predator & no he didn’t groom Camilla. Why? she’s not male.

This is another one in his parade of hot beards since ‘95. As he’s aged, his team and agencies do quid pro quo agreements w/non-superstars, like unknown models ”…here’s your fake girlfriend…she’ll pretend but she gets exposure in return”. Honestly to me it’s actually a relief, if rather him be in the closet than grooming CM since 10. She’s actually perfect for the gf part bc Leo knows/trusts her background more, knows her also more thru Al Pacino & her mom/Pacino’s ex

  2. S says:

No need to worry, you’ll age out of the job soon, and then you’ll be primarily known as one of Leo’s ex-girlfriends.

Probably not fair, but definitely true.

  3. Laura says:

    She really is beautiful.

    • Ravensdaughter says:

I agree. Without makeup especially, she is beautiful in a way I can’t describe-like a Renaissance beauty?

  4. lana86 says:

“ omg it’s so annoying that my mother/ father / boyfriend is an international superstar, and ppl overlook my amazing talents!!!….” Dude , if it was only your talents, you wouldn’t be even in the picture. Just shut up and rip the benefits/ opportunities.

  5. Biff says:

And what backlash is she talking about? On instagram? Because I haven’t seen anybody being negative about her on any blogs or outlets. Make your social media profiles private and stop making yourself a victim, girl!

  6. P says:

Well honey, thats all you are…

  7. kerwood says:

What else has she accomplished, other than being Di Caprio’s girlfriend? Was she a ‘super-model’? Has she had any significant acting roles?

Look for a major Di Caprio feature in the WSJ in the near future.

    • Biff says:

“Look for a major Di Caprio feature in the WSJ in the near future.” Why? New information on his fraudulent foundation coming out? Or as a quid pro quo for featuring his girlfriend on the list?

  8. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

    Bless her heart.

  9. Originaltessa says:

This disturbs me so so much. He’s older than her mom, his friend!!!??? Effing gross, you pervert.

  10. Silver Charm says:

I saw a headline earlier that called her the next Jennifer Lawrence and when I went to find it to link here, THERE WERE SIX OTHER ARTICLES WITH SIMILAR HEADLINES.

LA Times, Chicago Tribune, ET, Elle, Refinery29, Indiewire and a couple others that casually mentioned it in their stories. Her people are working overtime.

  11. xdanix says:

I mean, I understand the frustration on the one hand, but she’s 22? She’s barely worked. She’s only just now starting to build a profile for herself with her work. Of COURSE she’s only known as his girlfriend, there hasn’t been much else for people to know her as. It happens to people more successful than her all the time, like actors like Rose Leslie being referred to as only “Kit Harington’s wife”, despite being a consistently working actor with roles on several very big shows over the last few years, because he’s more famous than she is. Same with Ashley Benson who gets the ‘Cara Delevingne’s girlfriend’ tag all the time despite having starred on a very well-known tv show for 7 seasons. It’s done to more people that I can name here. It always happens when you’re in the public eye and you have a more famous partner. (And they don’t get much more famous than Leo DiCaprio.) It’s only going to happen MORE if that relationship is how you came to public attention in the first place.

    • Nikki* says:

I appreciated your thoughtful comment. Hope it’s ok to add that I remember when Nicole Kidman was referred to as Tom Cruise’s wife, despite her own work. I am SO GLAD she’s carved out a fabulous, lengthy career for herself!

  12. Chisey says:

It would crack me up if Leo’s light is finally on and he settles down with her even when she moves past college aged. She’s already the Leo GF I’ve heard the most gossip about. It would be great if he stayed with her and then when she’s in her 40s she dumps him for some twenty-something guy.

  13. Sean says:

Everyone can relax, it just looks creepy but isn’t. She’s just his latest beard. I’m sure nothing sexual is actually happening.

    • Meg says:

Really? His beard? Nothing sexual has happened for two years? So youre insinuating hes gay?

      • Sean says:

        What do you think?

      • GTFI says:

        @meg

obviously. he almost got outted indirectly in an Interview Magazine article in ‘95 – his first beard ever appeared after that. then Titanic happened & well, obv that sealed the beard route as a lifetime must for him.
and that’s why he’s harmless. he isn’t a creep predator womanizer. these girls are all beards. and I mean *all* of them. It’s sad but heteronormativity is riskproof stardom/money, plus you can’t be a heartthrob that millions of women lust after since 1997 & expect to come out as a gay & it not hurt your career. In our normal world that’s crazy. Hollywood pretends to be superficially progressive but they very much are aware that it’s the international market that matters the most the money that matters the most. They are homophobic bc the revenue is, that’s their excuse. It’s horrible but also that reality

  14. Jessica says:

Look, she scores public hand holding shots. That’s a nice contractual perk. Not sure what she’s complaining about.

  15. Steff says:

She has no right to complain. Her itty bitty indy movie got a spot at the Cannes film festival thanks to Leo. She’s getting all this press coverage thanks to Leo. He’s known to do favours for whoever is his gf at the time.

  16. Meg says:

He only wants to date women who dont have established careers yet and never age as he dumps them by 25. He does not sound like a secure guy who wants a partner

  17. Valerie says:

Pretty soon, she won’t have to worry about that.

  18. Grifter says:

I saw them at the Paul McCartney and she was four persons away fromhim the whole night; never even spoke to her. Most in LA think he keeps her around for media and to entertain his friends/crew/patrons. Her mother is selling their house, and Camila is the one who has to keep them afloat. Her dad has a new Sugar Mama.

    • cass says:

His mom is a real clinger so is her dad. She should seek this opportunity to actually work and earn while he is still with her. Obviously, she is oblivious and thinks she is different from his past girlfriends and clings on to him 24-7. Leo always looks so disinterested with her PDA and barely reciprocate. The one on the yacht in the hot tub is iconic, she was all over him and he didn’t even look at her in the eye.

  19. stormsmama says:

What else exactly should we know her for????

  20. Karen says:

I think the end is in sight for this one. It’s really starting to drag now and Leo obviously can’t be bothered to acknowledge her presence in the photo ops/pap walks. So they should just let this one fizzle out. Soon please. So she can reminded that she isn’t anything without him.
