Millie Bobby Brown in Louis Vuitton: too mature & matronly for a 15-year-old?

Millie Bobby Brown at arrivals for 26th...

Millie Bobby Brown is only 15 years old. Is that right? She turns 16 in a few weeks. We already know that she’s the breadwinner for her family. MBB has already lived enough life to make a really tragic memoir. Millie was in a matronly Louis Vuitton ensemble at the SAG Awards. This LV would have looked badass on Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep or Glenn Close. On a 15-year-old girl, it looks… well…*deep sigh*. I don’t think this is a case of “Millie trying to look older.” I think the fashion industry doesn’t know how to make clothes for young teenage girls, AND Millie’s stylist doesn’t know what to do with her.

Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton. I love this? Beautiful color, pretty well tailored, it suits her and she looks very pretty. She has an LV contract, I’m pretty sure, and so she might get first dibs on stuff like this. She worked it too.

Gwendoline Christie in Rick Owens (I think). This whole look is a major MOOD. The volume of it, on a woman her height… it’s amazing. The idea behind women’s fashion is to be body-con, to be smaller, to take up less physical and emotional space. And here’s big, tall Gwendoline and her massive dress. Love her.

She looks 28-30. If she was aiming on this result- it’s a success!

  2. Carmen AIC says:

Love the outfit. I would wear it in black or navy or sage green. But it is too old for her. Then again, she doesn’t look 15 anymore, no matter what she wears.

    • Aang says:

Agree. She just looks much older than her actual age. And not in a bad way either, she doesn’t look OLD, just older. I wonder if she’ll just continue to look 28 until she is 28 or if she’ll always look older.

      • minx says:

I think she does look older in a bad way…she looks as if her youth is being sucked out of her. She’s younger than Kiernan Shipka, who always looks cute and stylish and like she’s enjoying herself, unlike this poor girl.

    • Marigold says:

As the mother of a 16 year-old, I disagree. MBB has been curated to look this way. Of course adolescent girls will try on looking like an adult and acting like one. At 15, she is very nearly capable of BEING an adult (or would be if she hadn’t been plucked out so early and forced to pretend she’s not a kid).

MBB looks 15 to me. No matter how much makeup they put on her, what kind of over-30’s styles they dress her in, or how severely they style her hair, she looks like a teenager. Maybe it’s because I’m raising one, but I see her for exactly what age she is.

I think the adults in charge of her life have seriously screwed up, and it’s been disturbing to watch in a few ways. I don’t know her, obviously. I don’t know her parents/family/management people. I could be–and hope to be–wrong. I think they’re messing her up. Huge.

Teens are not hard to dress. You can be fun and bright and young with clothing, and it’s not difficult. It’s too late for the adults in her life to rein it in now. She’s 15 and the damage, if there is any, has been done. The time to keep her from being forced into a precocious adulthood image was after season 1, when she was still a literal child. Having a “grown-up” face and the ability to mimic being deeply traumatized in a make-believe setting do not equate to maturity. This kid has been totally used, and it’s like the Culkin situation to my way of viewing it.

It’s sad. She does NOT look older. She looks like a teenager who’s been thrown into her Aunt Gloria’s evening wear and jewelry. Full stop.

As a parent to a teen, I feel very spooked out seeing this photo. Can I say I’m an expert? Can any of us claim the healthiest way to raise a happy/independent/fulfilled person? We’ll never know who “wins” the parenting game until out offspring are elderly and can look back at life well-lived, etc. However…

    • Veronica says:

It’s how they do her makeup. It’s heavy enough to add years to the face. Look at any picture of her freshfaced, and you can see her for the baby she still is.

It actually really disgusts me, the way her face and body is matured beyond its years through cosmetics and clothing for objectification in contrast to her male cast mates on Stranger Things. *This* is what people mean when they talk about the sexualization of teen girls.

  3. Charfromdarock says:

MBB looks about 30, it’s not just the clothes, the makeup and hair are aging her too.

I feel sad for her, she’s a girl put into adult situations and has the weight of being the breadwinner for her family.

With everything we know about what child stars go through, it makes me worry for her.

    • Jean says:

I’ve been worried about her for a while. She acts WAY too old for her age…. I wonder what she is into…..

    • Marigold says:

Yep, there is some shady s-t going on in that young lady’s upbringing, and I sincerely hope I’m wrong about that, but I don’t think I am.

  4. Belle says:

Whoa the way she dressed she looked WAY WAY older than 16. Definitely 30s. I was surprised to see the actual age. It’s weird because when we see a younger girl looking much older, it’s usually her makeup, work done etc but this legitimately was her outfit. Gorgeous outfit but not right for her AT ALL.

    • josephine says:

It’s also the lackluster styling. Her hair is dull and the necklace is too sedate. She doesn’t look like she’s having fun.

  5. Originaltessa says:

I thought she was Natalie Portman. Not looks like a 15 year d Natalie Portman, but actual 39 year old Natalie…

  6. aurora says:

At first glance I thought it was Lea Michele…
    Please get her another stylist!!!

    • Cbfan says:

Looks like hilaria baldwin at first glance to me but I totally see Lea Michele and Natalie Portman too. I think she looks good, obviously any 15 year old all done up for awards will look at least a decade older.

  7. Lucy says:

Oh, Millie. You deserve way, way better than that. Loved Sophie and Gwen. Both of those looks have elements that could have made them NOT work, and yet they totally do work.

  8. Lucy2 says:

It’s fine, but definitely a little old for her. I wish she’d work with whoever styles Kiernan Shipka, she always looks great and age appropriate.

    • Erinn says:

I agree. Kiernan seems to have a great team – or a great eye of her own – when it comes to finding something that’s age appropriate, but still fun.

I don’t even hate this on MBB, though. It’s not great, but it’s not bad either. Definitely makes her look older, but I think that’s strategic on her part. I think she’s partially afraid of type casting, and she’s making sure that she’s not looking like Eleven. I think if the jacket had been cropped down with even just a bit of a peplum it would have lightened the look SO much and made her look more fresh and young.

    • Jane says:

Shipka should be featured everyday everywhere as having the BEST style, and 100% age appropriate! I adore her style.

  9. Sidewithkids says:

It’s a bad look but most of her looks aren’t great. She doesn’t seem to know how to style her clothes for her body and her age. Kinda like Margot Robbie, beautiful girl but her clothes never seem right for her imo.

  10. Mego says:

Sophie Turner’s gown reminds me of the one worn by Superstar Barbie doll circa 1976.

  11. Baby Fish Mouth says:

She needs fresh glossier-style makeup and a fun stylist.

  12. Jerusha says:

She looks like Marion Cotillard. Not Marion Cotillard at 15, but Marion Cotillard today. Ever since she became famous she’s been dressed older than her age. I look at her parents for that. Other child stars who have been used as atms for their families have not fared well, hope her life turns out differently.

  13. Soupie says:

This outfit would actually have been killer without the skirt, instead of weirdly frumpy. Or something.

  14. Fern says:

What I love about this clothing choice is that she isn’t stereotypical as far as dressing for this event. I prefer the pants to clingy dresses and bare legs. The clothing is very stylish and she isn’t flashing any body parts. I agree that her makeup could be better – something fresher and dewier. She may look older than her years but she’s got great taste. Gwendoline Christie’s black tent dress is disastrous.

  15. Spicecake38 says:

    I thought this was Leonardo’s girlfriend..Whatshername…

  16. MellyMel says:

She’s always looked like a baby Natalie Portman to me, but the way she has her hair styled and the makeup makes it even more so. They outfit is nice, but agreed, it would be better on someone older.

  17. Paulanie says:

If someone told me she was 30, I would have believed it. That’s just sad (if you’re actually 15). Ugh!
She should find Kiernan Shipka’s stylist. Also started as a child star, almost always looked very stylish and fashionable, but more age appropriate

  18. Paulanie says:

Sophie Turner: stunning. Definitely one of the best dressed

  19. grumpyterrier says:

Millie’s outfit is made for Jane Fonda. Or add a turtleneck and Diane Keaton.

  20. Emilia says:

Sophie looks great but this is already the 2nd or 3rd slightly different version of the same dress she’s worn lately. Louis Vuitton is one of the worst fashion houses at the moment. All their stuff is either wacky as hell or different iterations of the same column gown with the same bodice. Just like Jennifer Lawrence with Dior I wish Sophie had a contract with a different brand because she could pull off such killer looks but LV is standing in her way.

  21. Erika H says:

I think Millie, like a lot of teens these days, desperately wants to appesr older than she is. She is a gorgeous girl, but no 15 year old should be showing any kind of cleavage. It leaves me feeling icky just seeing it.

  22. BANANIE says:

I actually liked MBB’s getup — just not for a girl her age. It strikes me as more of an Emma Stone kind of look, but I might just be thinking that because of the pants.

  23. Bluenoser says:

I don’t know much about MBB – I haven’t watched ST in a few years. So I didn’t recognize her watching the SAG Awards last night. When I heard her name announced as a presenter I was surprised, and thought “wow, she grew up since I last watched the show”. But to find out she’s ONLY 15!!?? There’s something completely unsettling about how she looks. There’s no joy. No 15-year-old should look like that.

    • ArtHistorian says:

I, too, find it very unsettling to see a young girl styled and presented as an adult woman – especially because young teens are vulnerable in this industry.

  24. Middle of the road says:

Natalie Portman and Kiera Knightly have another clone it seems. Millie looks just like them. If they ever make a movie about clones running the world, they could use there 3 for sure. As for the dress I love it, but like everyone else it’s too old for her. She’s only 15, but looks closer to 30. I’m sure life has aged her just as much as the dress does though

  25. Karen says:

She sure seems to be going out of her way to cater to the creeper crowd of Hollywood. Makeup & style is just inappropriate for a teenager. It’s like she’s looking for the wrong kind of attention (if she hasn’t gotten it already).

    • otaku fairy.... says:

Yikes. This comment says a lot about someone, and it’s not Millie Bobbi Brown…
A girl or woman is not ‘catering to the creepers’ or seeking their attention just because she’s not covered from collarbone to ankle. Not everything is about men- who are 100% responsible for their own behavior, and who aren’t magically going to be turned from decent to evil or vice versa based on some girls neckline.

    • Joanna says:

No one is looking for that kind of attention

    • Amaria says:

Maybe SHE isn’t catering to the creepers – but certainly her handlers are. It’s no secret she’s her family’s ATM and that her parents – her father especially – have been doing everything in their power to ‘sell’ her. Reminds me of the parents of Michael Jackson’s kid ‘friends’, who pretended that it was all normal and innocent with everything MJ was doing with the boys, because they were getting freebies, houses and sh*t. And then there’s Lindsay Lohan, Corey Feldman and many, many more.

  26. elizabeth says:

i thought that was idina menzel

  27. Nicegirl says:

    She looks like Kacey Musgraves

  28. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

I really like Millie’s outfit (without puff shoulders and in another color). But she doesn’t look a thing like herself. But what do I know.

  29. Anna Reynolds says:

Anyone else think MBB looks just like Hilaria Baldwin??

  30. DS9 says:

I thought it was cute and cute on her.

  31. Wasabi says:

I want to be Gwendoline Christie when I grow up! And I want her dress so I, too, can look like a beautiful Victorian ghost.

    • ArtHistorian says:

I don’t like her dress by I very much appreciate the total fearlessness of Gwendoline Christie’s sartorial choices. She’s never playing it safe.

  32. Mar says:

I love this white ensemble! It’s glorious on her!

  33. Annetommy says:

Actually not keen on any of these looks.

  34. jules says:

this is horrible, what her handlers have done to her. she looks between 30-40. childhood, stolen.

  35. Kate says:

I love Gwendoline’s whole look, especially hair and makeup!
