Anna Paquin on being a blonde: people think I’m stupid & happy

Anna Paquin was photographed in a baggy dress last week, and it seems the gossip sites were speculating that her fiancée Stephen Moyer had already impregnated her. Not so much, according to Anna’s rep, who told Us Weekly that Anna is “not pregnant”. Good to know. I’m betting Anna does get pregnant soon after getting hitched. She and Stephen seem to really adore each other, so maybe this will be the relationship that he can make work for the long haul.

Anna is the cover girl for Nylon Magazinef or September, and Page Six got some early interview excerpts. Anna says she doesn’t mind all of the nudity she does for True Blood, and that she doesn’t find nudity “shocking”. She also has a funny perspective on being a blonde now:

Anna Paquin doesn’t mind getting naked frequently in her hit HBO show “True Blood.”

She tells the new issue of Nylon, “It’s like, I’m sorry, maybe there are a lot of women who keep their bras on while they have sex . . . I don’t happen to be one of them. I don’t think the naked body is particularly shocking or interesting.”

She adds, “People are incredibly literal sometimes in how they view you. You have dark hair and pale skin? You must be brooding. The second you dye your hair blond and get a spray tan, people treat you as if you’re a bit stupider and happier.”

[From Page Six]

I’m a fan of Anna’s, but I don’t really think her current blonde hair style is really that attractive. She looks so cute as a brunette – she looks younger with darker hair too. CB tells me that Anna has to be blonde for True Blood, because the Sookie character is blonde. I’d be willing to bet Stephen prefers the blonde too.

In one last piece of Anna Paquin news, it seems she and Stephen are searching for a new house. From what I can know of them, I think Stephen moved into Anna’s home soon after they started dating, so perhaps it’s a space issue. Stephen has two kids (a son, Billy, and a daughter, Lilac) who visit him in Los Angeles, so maybe they just need more bedrooms. And a nursery, probably.

Those shorts she’s wearing are tragic!

  2. Firestarter says:

I am blonde and sometimes I am tan, but no one has ever thought I was stupid (maybe a few posters on here, but they have no idea what I look like) so maybe she acts stupid which is why people assume that she is.

It’s comments like these that make a person sound less than brilliant.

I think those shorts are his. Twinsies!

  4. florida_girl says:

I don’t know anything about these two but I love love love TruBlood…that show is the ish for real and I think Sookie should get with Eric…hahha

  5. Roma says:

    Hmmmmmm. Eric.

  6. Tia C says:

@ Firestarter – I’ve noticed that she often comes off in interviews as less than brilliant.

Her acting is less than brilliant, too (IMHO only). Don’t get me wrong, I’m a HUGE True Blood fan, and she does OK as Sookie, but it’s most of the rest of the cast I find outstanding (Lafayette, Sam, Eric). Not her BF, though, his “southern” accent is godawfully painful to endure. Bless his heart, as we say here…

    soooo keh!

Tia C- I agree with your whole post! I too love TrueBlood, but her acting leaves much to be desired. Without the supporting cast I would have stopped watching long ago. Most people I talk to would have as well.

She seems to have a hang up on the blonde hair. She has mentioned it quite a few times, in regards to people thinking she is stupid. I do not find the blonde hair and tan makes her stupid. I do find most of her comments make her sound like self important b*@ch. She wants to make sure that everyone knows she is not stupid. My feeling is if you have to tell people that you are smart, you probably are not as smart as you think you are.

Tia C – You wrote exactly what I was thinking. From her intelligence to her talent. I can’t add more.

  10. Annie says:

I must disagree only slightly. Maybe it’s that people are better at hiding it for you guys, but when I’m around all my guy friends, hands down, their perception is that a pretty blonde girl is dumber than a pretty brunette.

As for Anna, she’s much better as a brunette and she just kind of strikes me as ditzy. Period. Hair color aside.

    SOOKIE IZ MAHN!

So how bout we start a petition for Alexander to just happen to show some extra skin so we can see his handsome face and body on here? Damn it Alexander do something! I’m tired of Anna and Stephen getting the limelight. >_>

But I do enjoy the show and I’ll agree that it’s the rest of the cast whose acting is wonderful. Anna seems to have toned down the hick in her accent (We don’t all sound like that here in the South ;D) and Stephen seems to have… increased the hick. No matter. Take the cameras off them for a while and put it on Alexander. Really. He can just pick his nose and I’ll find it interesting. 😛

It is proven that people think blondes are less intelligent. There is one study where they had people look at blondes before taking a test, and others look at brunettes, and the people who look at blondes score lower, significantly, they dumb themselves down because of the blonde. It isn’t in her head or because she is dumb (which she may be, i don’t really know her)

  13. Zoe (The Other One) says:

Her accent on that show is TRAGIC – I stopped watching after two episodes.

In other True Blood related news – British/Irish folk (Mairead I’m looking at ye) is Jason Stackhouse Vinnie from Home and Away or have I gone off the head?

  14. Tia C says:

Y’all are makin me laugh out loud at work!

@meow – “My feeling is if you have to tell people that you are smart, you probably are not as smart as you think you are.”

Yep! You killed me with that one…

@Zoe (the other one): you have not gone off the head (whatever that means!) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0477127/

  15. petite says:

It would seem according to IMDB that Jason Stackhouse/Ryan Kwanten was indeed in Home & Away…

  16. For Sooth? says:

I’ll say it again. More Tara, more Lafayette, more Jason and only more Eric if he will show us he can stand up straight and rock all of his six feet four inches. Otherwise he is another Jason with a less appealing face.
I don’t know why, but Bill and Sookie, as actors, irk me to no end. I guess it’s what you all are saying. The acting is cringe-worthy.
And grandma had to leave early, like in the books. I don’t like it when the scene is at Sookie’s house and her grandmother isn’t there. There is no soul.
Sorry Anna, I just can’t get into you and Bill. I know you’re a couple off screen but I just don’t buy it. Each episode I’m hoping to see what others see in you two, but I can’t make myself like you.

  17. telesma says:

@florida_girl: In the books Sookie does get together with Eric. 🙂

@For Sooth: Moyer & Paquin irk me as well. Moyer for his bizarre Southern Vampahrrr drawl, and Paquin because I honestly don’t think she’s that attractive, and Sookie is supposed to be really beautiful, because she’s really a fairy princess (long lost granddaughter of faerie King Niall). Does Paquin strike you as fairy princess material?

I also wish they’d both just STFU and stop saying stupid things. They’re like Megan Fox, not bad until they open their mouths.

In the books, Lafayette and Tara are very minor characters, but I really like what they’ve done with them in the show. Lafayette is easily my favorite character on True Blood.

  18. emigrate says:

@telesma: thanks for the spoiler. not all of us have read the books yet.

  19. M says:

I like her better as a brunette too!

  20. M says:

Stephen and Anna are the best part of show for me, I love their connection. It was what got me into the show. Their acting suits the Southern flavor of show to me.
