This story is sort of anticlimactic after CB’s earlier post about the clusterf-ck that is the Church of Scientology. But consider this as an addendum to it - because Katie Holmes has been absorbed into Tom Cruise’s creepy CoS world, and most of the tabloids are reporting that she’s looking for a way out. The bulk of In Touch’s story is the same old stuff, much of it regurgitated from their cover story last week - Katie is sad, she doesn’t care about her appearance, Tom is getting on her last nerve, et cetera. Now they’re claiming that Tom even pointed out to Katie that she’s “gaining weight” - as in, he didn’t like the enormous five pounds she put on. But before I get into that, there were a few pieces of information that were new to me.
First, there was this little piece in one of the sidebars to the story: “Katie may find Tom’s divorce from his second wife, Nicole Kidman, 42, to be something of a cautionary tale. Not only does Tom have full custody of their kids - Connor and Isabella - a pal says, ’They call Katie ’Mom’ but they call Nicole by her first name.’ Nicole admitted to Marie Claire that the children prefer living in LA to living with her and her husabnd Keith Urban in Nashville.” It’s interesting because that’s what we’ve all been thinking, haven’t we? Katie is staying with Tom at this point because she doesn’t want to be separated from Suri. Of course, if my theory is right about Suri’s conception, Tom might not even have a biological claim on Suri. So if Katie ever does leave Tom, that should be the card she plays, I think.
The second part I found interesting was this pullout - “She’s not a trophy wife anymore”. In Touch points out that when she was first with Tom, Katie “seemed far more focused on her looks than on her acting career.” But lately, Katie “has been dressing down - and telling her friends that wants to be taken seriously.” Tom allows Katie to have friends? And Katie was well dressed before? Well, I guess they’re making the comparison to what she looks like now.
“Katie and Tom’s relationship is troubled,” says a pal, adding that Katie often holds her tongue to avoid upsetting Suri. “Her priority in life is being a mom.”
“The bottom like is, Katie wants her own life,” the pal says, adding that it’s hard to come by because Tom is such a big star. “She wants to be more than Mrs. Tom Cruise.”
The pal claims Katie has began to rebel against the relationship in subtle ways, like overeating when Tom isn’t around. “He usually has her on a strict diet and exercise routine, but since she’s been in Australia, she’s put on five pounds… she’s been eating chocolates, potato chips and pizza. Tom has mentioned to her that she’s putting on weight, but she doesn’t care.”
Katie wants to strike out on her own as she sees fit, even if it means making the wrong career choice. “Even her recent appearance on So You Think You Can Dance was green-lighted by Tom,” another pal explains. “She’s tired of it.”

Oh, she gained five whole pounds! After looking like an emaciated zombie for the better part of a year, I hope those five whole pounds went a long way to making her look healthier. Even though I suspect it’s not true, wouldn’t Tom be the biggest bitch in the world for “mentioning” that she’s putting on weight? But I do believe Tom probably keeps her on a Xenu diet. Anti-Thetan corn flakes, barley water and discipline. Tom probably didn’t even notice that Katie had gained weight. It’s not like he would even care.

I always feel sorry for Nicole Kidman because I think she gets a fair amount of criticism for not (seeming) to spend much time with her children with Tom Cruise. Some even speculate that it is because they are adopted and therefor not as important to her. It always seemed to me that Tom and his army of cult loonies have done a lot to drive a wedge between Nicole and the kids. I don’t doubt that Katie fears the same thing, should she leave Tom.

the only time I see Katie looking like she is truly happy (and not putting on the zombie smile for the paps) is when she is with Suri, and Tom isn’t around.

to mollyb…you may be right about the custody thing, but if TinyTom isn’t the bio father (which a LOT of people think is the case), he wouldn’t have a leg to stand on custody-wise.

she wears flats, he wears lifts. but when they’re RIGHT NEXT to each other, you can clearly see that she towers over him.

Even if he does not have a biological claim to Suri, he’s listed as the father on the birth certificate, he’s acted like a father, he’s gonna have paternal rights. I don’t like the guy either and I think he’s a mouthpiece for one of the most destructive cults around but the law will most likely give him parental rights at this point.

Of all the rumors about them as a couple and family the one that Suri isn’t his is the one that won’t die. The thing that anyone w/ HALF A BRAIN would realize is that if the Suri rumor were true then the ones about Tom controlling/monitoring Katie COULDN’T be true. Tom is not liked; the many negative stories prove that. However, the one thing has NEVER been said, and that he has never been accused of, is being anything but an EXCELLENT father. If Katie really had the power that a non-bio Tom and Suri connection didn’t exist it and half of what was written was true she would use it. That she hasn’t means 1. SURI IS TOM’S and 2. ALL THE TABLOID GARBAGE IS @#$#@
The same goes for the situation with Nicole. If any of the sexual and controlling rumors about Tom had any basis in fact, she would know even more than Katie, that she doesn’t say anything to spend more time with her kids means AGAIN there is no truth to them. Connor and Bella are all but adults, if they wanted their mother they would be with her and Tom couldn’t stop them. If he did, it would only give Nicole ammunition to take to a court. That she doesn’t proves that the kids prefer their dad and- now that she has Sunday-she has no problem with that

marion, Tom and Nicole’s adopted kids were raised in Scientology, and Nicole is probably considered an “suppressive person” for leaving the cult. The kids have probably been brainwashed so much that they want little or nothing to do with her, even if she is their mother. That’s what Scientology does to families.
Personally, I have no trouble believing that Tom is enough of a controlling douchebag to put his wife on a stritct diet. After reading about his abusive behavior towards others, I also have no trouble believing that he would criticize Katie’s weight, probably quite cruelly.

I don’t see why a judge would award Tom custody of Suri over Katie in the event of a divorce. She’s a good mom, so why would a court give Suri to Tom? Katie used to be so pretty till she married The Cruise. Now she just looks beat and morose. I hope she escapes this existence. If that lady in Not Without My Daughter could do it, then Katie Holmes certainly could manage.

Suri would stay with Katie. Connor and Isabella were a lot older at the time of the split, and this is totally different. The courts are not going to give Tom sole custody. Suri resembles Tom so the surrogate father story is probably out…odd though that Nicole had no bio children all those years. This marriage is probably doomed but it may limp on for a few more years…doesn’t seem like Katie is totally controlled by Tom - she’s out there working almost constantly.

I always thought the Suri alien kid or not biological kid stories were ridiculous. The other kid stories about Tom’s children with Nicole always seemed a little sad to me.
It’s not that Tom has more custody than Nicole, it is that as much as she is photographed you never see her with her children. That’s a problem -

You can’t treat this like a normal marriage nor expect it to play out as if it was.
Its a business contract, plain and simple. I’m sure Katie does regret selling herself for the money and the fame but she does have Suri at this point which I’m sure is worth more to her than whatever else was in the contract.

If I was Katie I’d put on at least another 5 pounds. Like Poodlehopper said, she used to be so beautiful. She had a bit more meat on her bones and radiated youth and health. Now she’s just downright gloomy. I know the decision to sell her soul to the Devil for whatever price surely gave her pause to consider at some point, but maybe her upbringing didn’t teach her that the Devil can be a charming, tempting old thing. If he weren’t, he wouldn’t be very successful at his job. I know she could fight the contract if she was willing to pay the consequences. It’s always a good idea to fight the good fight, even if you know you’ll probably lose. You sure as hell don’t stand a chance if you never try. Scientology be damned. They aren’t the good guys.

Her face might not have gotten fat during the pregnancy but her thighs did, I think she was really pregnant I am just not sure about the timing, maybe she was pregnant sooner than they admitted then she wore a fake bump after she had suri.
Anyway it is time for Katie to get out of that marriage she never looks happy. I am thinking the pre nup stuff is similar to nicole’s, more money per yr married, and way more if the marriage lasted more than 10 yrs, (Tom and nic got divorced like 9 1/2 yrs) I think katie may be trying to make it last till a certain time period before she bolts, but how much money is enough? Zoe, Moo, HEB - everyone says Chris Klein is the father, but knowing how Tom likes to keep it in the family, I am much more inclined to say that William Mapother (his cousin) is the dad. Her appearance has changed as she’s grown, but Suri looks way more like him than Tom.
When Tom & Katie first went public, he was put & out manaical. For those of you who don’t know, it was during that time that he fired his publicist & was being repped by his sister, LeeAnn Devette. To put it mildly “his crazy was showing” and the cracks began to appear in his carefully crafted image. The tom that the general public knew was nothing more than what his people knew that everyone liked/wanted to see. Dream boat. Scandal-free. The eerie picture of perfection. I think the real Tom is much more like the tabloids make him out to be. Tyrannical and controling. Je buys his own hype & it led him down a sad

Scientology kids are not allowed to talk to anyone outside the cult even if it’s a family member trust me on this one if the kid is full cord Scientologist you can say hi but they won’t speak now I can’t speak for Connor or Isabelle I don’t know if they are full blown brain wash put I can speak for the brainwash ones they won’t even say hi. I went to one of the looney’s bins (Sci centers to see if the are as bad as people say they are and they are 12 times worst then that) anyway this kid stared at me so I decided to say hi boy didn’t speak not one bit even said hi twice to no response. Kate’s not going no where she married for the money and for a career boost though I don’t see the boost in her career so don’t feel sorry for her. Tom and Katie are legally married so the child is automatically his by law, as far as his claim. Of course it is hers too, lots of women do not gain weight in their face when pregnant. She was bone thin when she got pregnant like Angelina does, so that the weight gain will only show in the belly. Let’s hope it’s a bump in the road that they can get past. -

One thing no one has mentioned is how the Church of Scientology records the “Audit” sessions of anyone they think will benefit them. More than likely, they’ve got tape of Katie admitting some “evil” deed and therefore she’s terrified she will lose Suri to the Shrimp.
Word is Travolta is fed up and wants to bail on the CoS but can’t because they’ll blow him out of the closet too.
More than likely, this is the tactic Tom used to get custody of the kids away from Nicole.
