Prince William is reportedly ‘livid’ that the Sussexes made a deal with Netflix specifically

Britain's Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge speak to employers, at the London Bridge Jobcentre, in London

Throughout the three years of Sussex drama, I feel like Prince William has been exposed as a rage-monster. His default position consistently in all reporting is always to be “incandescent with rage” at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s actions. William is just an angry f–king guy, right? So it is with Harry and Meghan’s Netflix deal. Netflix notably produces The Crown, the epic, high-quality, somewhat-fictionalized account of the Windsors throughout the 20th century. As we’ve seen in the promos for the new season, William and Harry’s mother, then-Lady Diana Spencer, is introduced. No one knows what The Crown is going to do with Diana as a “character,” but I suspect they’ll show how the Windsors absolutely threw a young woman to the proverbial wolves. So, obviously, William is full of rage that Harry and Meghan would make a deal with the company producing The Crown.

It is feared the Netflix deal signed by Harry and Meghan could cause another tear in the relationship with the Royal Family. Netflix’s The Crown is expected to release its most explosive series yet in its upcoming series – focusing on Diana’s battle with the eating disorder in the Eighties. In episodes dealing with Diana’s crumbling marriage to Prince Charles, actress Emma Corrin, 24, will be seen gorging on food before vomiting into a toilet.

A TV insider said: “William and other senior royals are incredibly uncomfortable about this drama and livid Harry is now in partnership with the company that’s airing it. It’s the latest in a long line of flashpoints between the brothers, but there are few more sensitive subjects than the plight of their mother.”

[From The Sun]

Diana’s bulimia wasn’t a secret? She literally gave speeches about her disordered eating and how she overcame it. She was widely praised for her honesty and for her bravery at publicly discussing a subject which had, at that point, been largely a secret battle. I mean… of course The Crown will probably cover it. I doubt they’ll do anything massively graphic or exploitative with the subject. But let’s be real – “The Crown covering a subject Diana herself spoke about” is only the most recent excuse for why Willileaks and the rest of colonizer fam are incandescent with rage about the Netflix deal.

    • Bibi says:

I completely agree with your comment Nev. and would add that I don’t know any channel that hasn’t produced something on Diana.
Willy should sit down and trim some of his rose bushes.

    • FancyHat says:

The Crown is hagiography of the royal family. Elizabeth is seen as a saint. The racism/Nazi supporting is all covered up, etc.

I can’t believe the Windsors would have a problem with it.

      • bettyrose says:

I think that was true the first two seasons, but the veneer was peeled back a bit in season 3, and they have every reason to be nervous about season 4. But I’m going to laugh that much harder every time I watch the Lifetime movie and TQ makes Meghan assure her she’s not associated with Netflix show. LOL!

  2. Dee says:

More royal fan fiction. I’m sure it’s just sour grapes from Normal Bill pitching a documentary which didn’t get signed. And his brother living a more fulfilling life and getting out from under his shadow.

  3. mynameispearl says:

Netflix are also showing that tacky Diana musical, I’d say both brothers would object to that more than The Crown (which apparently they have watched).

    • bettyrose says:

Tacky Diana musical??? **runs to Google** . . . OMG, do we have confirmation that the Broadway Show is tacky or is it just its very existence that’s tacky? Might it actually be decent and respectful?

  4. S808 says:

Didn’t he have a project with Netflix?? I remember it coming out around the time the news of Oprah and Harry’s Apple TV series dropped? The Crown isn’t the only work on Netflix about the British royals so being mad at it specifically is weird but okay. I guess.

    • Royalwatcher says:

I think he tried but Netflix didn’t want him, right? If so, that’s what this is really about. Harry being embraced by the entity that rejected W.

Bahahahahah! Stay mad, Egg, stay mad.

    • Ainsley7 says:

No, William, Charles and Harry all helped promote a documentary on Netflix with David Attenborough. It was a weird engagement because all three were there and it was clear things weren’t great between Will and Harry. Harry and Charles only attended the premiere though. William interviewed Attenborough and was slightly more involved with the launch. So, it was painted as his project in the press because of Harry’s mental health documentary with Oprah.

I could see Will thinking Harry should be giving him credit for getting him the deal though. It would be like him to think that Harry only connected with Netflix because of his connection. As if H&M could not have gotten in touch with Netflix without him. He’s certainly self centered enough.

      • Becks1 says:

Ainsley, I remember that event with the three of them and it WAS weird. there was so much tension at that event.

    • February-Pisces says:

He’s just mad he got rejected, he’s probably cancelled his subscription in a fit of rage.

      • dreamchild says:

Incandescent with rage is my now favorite and I thought nothing could beat 38 hot which is a southern term for pissed off 😝

      • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

I love laughing about Incandescent William too. Someone wrote before that his incandescence could light a small village- it was great.

  5. Becks1 says:

    HAHAHAHA. Stay mad William.

but snark aside – I do wonder if there’s a fear that focusing on Diana’s eating disorders will bring attention to Kate. It’s been obvious for a while, as we have discussed here, that something is going on, and I don’t think the palace wants people to focus on that.

    • Ding ding ding!!!! Right here. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the royal life has been damaging to the women married into it. Small wonder Harry had his knickers in a knot to get Meghan outta there.

      • Snuffles says:

Agreed. I feel like Will settled for Kate because she (or her mother) was so desperate for a come up on the social ladder.

I’ve heard stories of Will being in love with and proposing to another aristocratic woman but got rejected. Harry frequently alluded to how hard it was to find a a woman “up for the job” and willing to marry him.

Honestly, I think within aristocratic circles, they probably know more than we do about that family and what went down with Diana. So much so that NONE of them were willing to join The Firm. Date, sure, but subject themselves to the horror of being a royal wife? NOPE!!

That’s why Will and Harry both married “commoners”. Both were naive in their own way about the realties of living inside that family. But each wife reacted differently. Kate has twisted herself to conform and Meghan refused to.

      • KL says:

@Snuffles, I forget if it was a documentary or a newspaper article, but I remember reading someone who’d covered the British royals for decades saying it was “an open secret” that aristocratic women in particular have zero interest in marrying into the royal family. What with modern rights and access, they already have everything that marriage could offer — money, freedom, prestige — and it would actually require them to give UP personal agency and privacy. Which, when you consider how things went down with Chelsea Davy, makes a lot of sense.

      • North of Boston says:

I don’t know necessarily that Meghan “refused to”.

It seems like Meghan was filling the role pretty well (at least the more public service, public engagement version of it) but whatever she did or could have done or should have done was never going to satisfy some people.

It never has been about her behavior; not really. It’s more the haters fundamentally hating who she was or thinking that she represented a threat to them somehow.

      • bloemheks says:

They don’t care. The way Kate is dressing lately, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we had another Karen Carpenter tragedy. Unfortunately, they are that stupid. The poor woman is wasting away and no one seems to say or do a thing. Would William even care or would he milk the tragedy for all it was worth then remarry? It would certainly be more convenient than divorce, which Kate would never do. She is a shell of a person, which I expect started before she married William as she got dangerously thin before the wedding. Has any wife thrived in that family? Are there ANY success stories?

    • Ainsley7 says:

I could see that simply because Will always tells on himself. By specifically mentioning that he doesn’t want Diana’s eating disorder brought up, it inevitably brings up questions about Kate. It’s why I have trouble being too hard on her. She’s clearly not well and no one around her really has her best interest in mind. Even her own mother sides with Will more often than not.

      • Melly says:

I was talking yesterday on twitter about this. Ever since she took that pic holding the plant and you could clearly see every rib in her chest, I’ve been legit concerned about Kate’s weight. Her fashion has changed to dresses that seem meant to conceal her body.

      • Tessa says:

I would have sympathy for Kate but I have none after she treated Harry and Meghan. I think she was behind the fab three photo issued on Harry’s birthday, omitting Meghan.

      • VS says:

@Ainsley7 and @Melly ——- I am impressed by you both!

I am with @Tessa; I have absolutely no compassion for this mediocre woman! Meghan was mercilessly attacked to conceal her mediocrity. She willingly participated in her husband FlyBe stunt involving her children!
She could have seen Meghan as one of the few who could understand her plight; they could have relied on each other instead she would rather defend botox and hair extensions than Meghan made her cry.
Whatever she is struggling with in her life isn’t enough! imo she hasn’t received 1% of the scorn Meghan had to deal with

That might seem mean to some; but that’s ok with me! I wonder if the positions were reverse and Meghan had treated Kate like Kate treated her, would Ainsley7 and Melly have the same compassion for Meghan?

      • Bohemian Angel says:

@VS, totally with you on this 100%. I have no compassion for Kate, the way she has been since Meghan arrived on the scene has made me dislike her more and more. I always said it on this site from the get go that Kate didn’t like Meghan, the passive aggressive things she would do like rewearing her clothes regularly whilst Meghan would get slaughtered in the press for buying a new outfit, turning up at the war museum out of the blue to show the British racists that her family fought in the Great War, (a big thing here in the UK), highlighting Meghan as a foreigner. These were way before the Flybe stunt she participated in with her husband. I don’t like her or her husband, they are a pair of racist, entitled, jealous, lazy gits. I am truly amazed that after all this she still has fans esp after her bitchiness at the CW service and her obvious racism, but I guess to some she has done nothing wrong!
And your right, if this was Meghan or any black woman she wouldn’t have any compassion shown to her and will be called out as a angry bitch… the world never changes. Sigh….

      • Sofia says:

I do feel bad for her because I don’t think she’s had the opportunity to have a life outside of William but at the same time, she’s a woman who’s turning 40 in 16 months or so. She’s adult enough to put her foot down with William. And like others have said: no-one really told her to be cold on CW day – especially as her own husband seemed to have said hello to the Sussexes

      • Anance says:

100% agree. I always cut Kate a break – seeing her as a victim of her mother’s ambitions and Wills’ entitlement. She was very young when it all started; she never developed into an adult. IMO, she has very low self-esteem at this point.

      • Becks1 says:

I feel bad for Kate because if she is in fact as sick as we think, that’s sad and I dont want someone to be sick like that, and hope she gets help. I also feel bad for her because I do think her growth is stunted – her entire identity is wrapped up as being “William’s girlfriend/wife” and there isn’t a whole lot else there, and like Ainsley said, I think her mom sides with William more often than not, since Carole’s wagon is so completely hitched to William.

But, that being said, none of that excuses her petty and bitchy behavior that we have seen on display on multiple occasions. None of that excuses her family briefing to the press about Meghan, Kate’s active involvement in the smear campaign, or Kate publicly ignoring Meghan at the CW service.

so there is a line for me. Her husband seems to treat her like crap in many ways, her in-laws are never going to tell him to stop, her mother aids and abets him – but those are all things she knew going into this.

      • February-Pisces says:

Everytime I start to feel bad for Kate, I remember something shitty she’s done and it goes away. Like when Meghan released the grenfell cookbook, Kate’s fav mouthpiece camilla Tominey accused the kitchen of being terrorists. Kate and camilla T were obviously just trying to slander Meghan, without even giving these women, who had lost everything a second thought. They had to read how ‘they were linked terrorists’, making them a potential target to any crazy white supremacist. Innocent people could have been targeted because kate felt jealous.

      • RoyalBlue says:

        Let’s see:

Tries to get away with as little work as possible
        Lazy
        Five question struggle survey
Tried to upstage Meghan’s cookbook launch with a non starter saving Broken Britain project
Has been part of the KP negative campaign against the sussexes
Meghan made poor Kate cry at the dress fitting. (yea, right)
Meghan shouted at Charlotte during the dress fitting. (nope, didn’t happen)
Kate ignores Meghan at the polo Match
Kate turns away and refuses to greet the Sussexes at the church
Kate whispering with Camilla at the wedding during the sermon
Kate never welcomed Meghan according to Finding Freedom, but of course put out PR stories to say she was taking Meghan under her wing (never invited her to her birthday events in january)
Middletons insanely jealous of Meghan that she is not invited to Pippa’s
        wedding
Giving away Archie’s name with that planted story about George saying his name is Archie
        FlyBe stunt
Extremely jealous of Meghan and Harry and their chemistry and popularity
Feels threatened by Meghan because of her stage presence

Yep. zero sympathy for Kate here.

      • Nic919 says:

We can feel bad for her self image issues and being cheated on and still condemn her nasty behaviour toward Meghan because none of Kate’s personal problems justify her mean behaviour toward Meghan. She has agency and decided to be mean. That’s on her.

      • Vava says:

@Tessa move over so I can sit by you on the couch. I totally agree with you – I lost any compassion I might have had for Kate when she made her performance at that church thing, the way she treated the Sussexes was disgusting.

      • lovemypasta says:

I can see from Kate’s smile that she a grinder. The number one cause of bruxism is stress and anxiety. Couple that with her extreme thinness and manic smile and go figure.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

Sorry still zero sympathy from me. I really don’t care about her being controlled by her mother and William or that her growth has supposedly been stunted as she was very young when she took up with William. Kate is a grown arse woman preparing to turn 40, she knows right from wrong, what her,William and her mother have done with this smear campaign against Harry and Meghan has put them in extreme danger, white supremacists were coming for Harry for being a so called race traitor and the amount of death threats Meghan has got… well, this is something we can not ignore, she has shown herself to be a dangerous mean girl so people need to stop infantilising this horrible woman and see her for what she really is.

      • Becks1 says:

@Bohemian – its not infantilizing. I actually specifically said this:

“none of that excuses her petty and bitchy behavior that we have seen on display on multiple occasions. None of that excuses her family briefing to the press about Meghan, Kate’s active involvement in the smear campaign, or Kate publicly ignoring Meghan at the CW service.”

I can think Kate is a pretty horrible person and think that its kind of scary to see her disappearing before our eyes. The two are not mutually exclusive and I’m not sure why so many are acting like those of who feel that way are giving Kate a pass or whatever.

      • JT says:

@Becks I hope I didn’t come off as aggressive or anything. I think Kate is very aware of the rumors regarding the ED because she has been hiding her body for sometime now. So even if she doesn’t think she has it, she definitely knows enough not to appear she that she does. I don’t know if I’m making sense. I guess I’m trying to say that seeing the comments could potentially give her the insight to know that she is sick. We know she pay attention to those types of stories of herself, as they are often brought up in stories defending her. The Tatler article struck a nerve because it mentioned the ED, as well as this story mentioning it. We know that Kate and her family have studied Diana, so they would know the signs as well. If Kate mentioned that she was sick, people would find her to be very sympathetic. She would gain so much goodwill, and it could explain some things regarding her behavior. It’s another reason why befriending Meghan would have benefited her, because Meg is very supportive of her female friendships. Meg could’ve have been the ally that she clearly needs if the palace is trying to bury it. I think Meghan would’ve helped her stand up for herself. Kate is too old for her age to really to be suffering in silence, or being jealous of your BILs wife, or allowing Will to cheat if she is unhappy with that arrangement. She just has too many resources to carry on this way.

      • Bohemian Angel says:

@Becks I wasn’t quoting you specifically, I was generalising how people at times infantilise Kate which then gives her a pass for her bad behaviour, so I don’t know why you jumped to the idea that I was replying to you.
Look it’s up to you if you want to feel sorry for Kate that’s your prerogative just as me saying I have zero sympathy for her is mine. I take huge offence in her racist behaviour as she is not helping things here in the U.K. and I as a black woman will suffer at some point because of this, not just Meghan. Kate and the rest of them have done us black people a huge disservice, because her letting her racist fans know it’s ok to smear and treat a black woman less than a dog will have repercussions in our society and these people now think it’s ok to be racist and treat black people badly. So please forgive me for not being able to separate the criminal from the crime and feel bad for her because she is suffering, I’m sure she didn’t feel bad when Meghan was suffering esp during her pregnancy. You reap what you sow.

      • Lady D says:

Performing personal standing O for Bohemian Angel.

    • Nyro says:

I hadn’t thought about this but you’re so right. The story of Diana playing out on screen is not only going to force us to look at the parallels with Meghan, but with Kate as well. For a second generation, that we know of, we have another royal wife who clearly has something going on with food and body image. Tatler made mention of it in the Catherine the Great piece and from the palace’s response, that bothered them a great deal. And we know these people only get up in arms over things that are true and that they want to keep hidden.

      • PlainJane says:

I hadn’t made the connection either, but it makes so much sense. It does explain the Sister Wife dresses too.

I actually do feel sorry for K. I believe she is burning with hatred for M + H. She’s married to a man who’s tending other rose bushes, and it’s clearly taking a toll on her. I propose a good therapist to help her untangle her own terrible web of behaviors and delusions.

But the BRF is so far up their own backsides, they can’t see what they are doing, everybody else can though.

      • Becks1 says:

And it goes back to the cheating – someone around the time of the tatler article (beach Dreams maybe?) made the good point that the reason the palace was so upset by the comparison of Diana with her eating disorder to very thin Kate wasn’t just because of the implication that Kate had an eating disorder; it was because it drew a direct comparison to the circumstances surrounding it – Diana trapped in a loveless marriage with a husband running around on her, would that make people wonder if history was repeating itself?

      • JT says:

Kate will be 40 next year. 40. She is a grown ass woman who has all of the resources in the world to get help. She doesn’t have to stay with a husband who cheats on her, she doesn’t have to be the most incurious person, she doesn’t have to suffer in silence if she does in fact have an eating disorder. Diana was in the exact same position as Kate: married to a man who doesn’t love her, struggling with an eating disorder, and grew up very sheltered. Yet she got a real job, learned how to be better at her role as POW, got treatment for her ED, and burned every last bridge down of the Windsors. Why is Kate constantly coddled in this way? She will be 40 in a few months. The same age as Meghan who had a hell of a lot more sh$t thrown her way than an upper middle class, Sloan wannabe. Kate can change her circumstances is she wanted to.

      • Becks1 says:

@JT except no one is saying that Kate should be coddled and has no choice but to stay with a man that cheats on her and treats her like crap. What is up with this place today?

I actually agree with you that Kate is in the same position as Diana and even said as much in my comment. And that’s probably (at least in part) why the palace is worried about this next season of the Crown – they DONT want people to realize that they are in the same position.

And yes, Diana got out and good for her, and I don’t think we will ever see Kate do that.

I do take exception to your point about “she doesn’t have to suffer in silence if she does in fact have an eating disorder” because those situations are rarely that simple and its also very probable that IF she does have one, she does not consider herself to have one, so she doesn’t think there is anything to “get help for.”

        Geez louise people.

      • Tessa says:

Kate made the choice to put all on hold for William, like if she had any other thing going in her life it had to be dropped in case William called otherwise he might choose someone else. That is not a healthy relationship by any means. But she made the choice to put the plan to be Queen above all else.

  6. YaGotMe says:

TV insider is the new source for senior royal inner thoughts? Sounds like cheap PR for the series.

  7. L84Tea says:

Oh please. This is more grasping at straws to have any valid excuse possible to dump on H&M for this deal–in fact, William literally looks like he’s trying to take a dump on them in that picture. The hilarious part is that we all know it’s just jealousy through and through. Nobody in the RF is interesting enough to have Netflix clamoring for their participation except H&M and they all know it. Stay mad.

  8. Sofia says:

I don’t even know why the family is worried. Charles was shown pretty sympathetically as was Camilla. They’ll probably focus more on “Charles was kept away from his true love” rather than “Charles was jealous of a woman 10 years younger than him.”

    • Snuffles says:

Dude. It could go in any direction! I am dying to see how they depict it. I remember just devouring every word and every picture of “Diana: Her True Story”. I was completely obsessed. This season is going to be AMAZING.

      • Sofia says:

Yeah it can go anyway but considering how they depicted Charles and Camilla I don’t think they’ll go all in.

It won’t be a sugary portrayal but I’m not going to hold my breath for a no barrels beat down against the Windsors.

      • Tessa says:

THe Crown so far as avoided discussion of the other women in Charles life notably Lady Dale Tryon another married mistress. It was not just Camilla. Charles in 1994 clearly said to his biographer when he met Camilla he was not ready to marry. No intrigue no trying to separate them. And he could have told Camilla to wait for him which he didn’t.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Tessa – Agree with all you say. I think a very important point, which I 100% believe 100%, is that Camilla DID NOT want to marry Charles. Camilla WANTED to marry Andrew Parker-Bowles.

      • February-Pisces says:

@BTB Andrew Parker-Bowles was the hottie of the aristo set at the time. He has since aged in dog years like the rest of them, but I can see why camilla went for him. Anne is still close to him which makes me think he’s probably still her side-man after all these years.
I’ll never understand toffs, why do they seem to love their side pieces so much more than their actual spouses.

      • tolly says:

@Tessa@BayTampaBay: I got the impression that the “timeless tragic love story” came out during the press war at the end of the Wales marriage. It wasn’t something that royal reporters seemed to notice back in the 70s, when this all would have happened. I think that Charles loved Camilla, but expected her to wait around while he “sowed his wild oats”, and she decided to move on.

      • Tessa says:

I don’t think Charles wanted Camilla then nor was a great love. If he wanted her and nobody else to marry and be the mother of his royal children he would have done whatever was necessary. He might even thought Camilla “not good enough” to have royal children with him. But he felt entitled to keep her and others as mistresses.

    • Tessa says:

The thing is Charles was never kept away from Camilla. they got involved again after she married Andrew Parker Bowles. Her wedding ring did not stop him plus when she was pregnant with the PB children, Charles went elsewhere and sought comfort with Dale Tryon. I doubt the Crown will cover those details.

      • BayTampaBay says:

All of the “Titled Toffs” are bed-hoppers playing musical beds. This goes back to the times of Henry Viii. The “Titled Toff” game of musical beds that went on in the 50s-60s is well described in Lady Glenconner’s recent memoir.

  9. Princess Peach says:

So it’s fine to work with the RR that ripped his brother to shreds but not to work with Netflix because of the thousandth portrayal of Diana? Make it make sene.

    • L84Tea says:

      Helloooooo…

    • The Duchess says:

This man is always telling on himself every single time. He would do anything to have the deal Harry signed with Netflix, but he knows he’ll never get it. Also the excuse of refusing to work with Netflix because of how they will portray his late mother is very suspect. Diana herself openly talked about her mental health struggles, so if Baldy is such a big advocate for ‘starting conversations’, where is all this rage coming from? There’s no shame in having an ED, it’s an illness that can strike anybody at any time. I myself suffered throughout my teens. Awareness needs to be raised.

  10. Busyann says:

No, he’s incandescent with rage that his little millionaire brother isn’t going to be penniless, jobless, and forced to come back home like the good little third wheel he wants him to be.

Also, those pictures of Kate in the red prairie dress make me INCANDESCENT WITH RAGE! It’s not a good look girl. Eat a burger and go shopping at Jcrew for some nice Sheath Dresses, Cardigans, Skinny Ankle pants in solid jewel tones. Maybe a little brooch? Oh fine, I’ll let you keep those god awful hatbands if you do everything else.

    • Rose says:

If we can’t tell women to go on a diet, you can’t tell a woman to “eat a burger”. Body shaming is body shaming no matter what the size is.

      • NVYwife says:

@jaded you can not be serious. There is no way the posters on this site are in any way “concerned” about Kate. Just own the hate, lying about it makes you look so much worse

      • Jaded says:

NVYwife – ummmm wrong. Many are concerned, especially those who have struggled with eating disorders or have family members who suffer from them. I’m in the latter category, I lost my sister to eating disorders. Don’t tell me or anyone else with first hand experience of the heartache we have and are suffering and the concern we feel. You can dislike someone as many people on this site do, but still feel sorry for them.

      • Becks1 says:

It’s possible to dislike someone’s actions (and what those actions tell you about their character) and still not want that person to be sick.

    • notasugarhere says:

Kate knew the schedule for the day. She should have been wearing trousers and flats, with her hair tied back before she arrived.

    • Amber says:

Hi there. I myself have suffered from disordered eating. It is extremely insensitive to tell someone to “go eat a burger” even if that woman is very famous and privileged and work-shy. It’s body shaming. People used to say that to me when I was suffering from an eating disorder and it was deeply hurtful to me because I wished I could have a healthy relationship with food but my disordered eating was a mental compulsion that prevented me from eating normally. Then of course when I healed my relationship with food and started eating more, people said I was eating too much or eating things that were “too fattening.” We can never win.
The fact is that nobody knows what is really going on with Kate and it’s irresponsible for us to speculate on whether or not she has disordered eating. The only people whose business Kate’s diet is, is Kate and her healthcare people. People lose and gain weight all the time for a variety of different reasons, some of which are totally beyond their control (medication, illness, aging, etc). You can’t tell anything about a person’s reasons for losing or gaining weight just by looking at them. Kate’s doctors are the only people qualified to evaluate her health, including her weight. I’m not Kate’s biggest fan but she still deserves to be treated with respect about this stuff.

  11. Jegede says:

I actually don’t think this is coming from William

All the Murdoch newspapers Sun, Times, NY Post have been crapping on Harry & Meghan for this Netflix deal.

Every other day there is some new BS ‘outrage'(!!!) about any Netflix output, then used as an attack line against the Sussexes form these same rags.🙄🙄

I think these hacks are doing the bidding of their paymaster Murdoch, cause the Sussexes are going to be working for a rival broadcaster, than the Windsors caring.

    • Wiglet Watcher says:

William isn’t stopping this story. He doesn’t care because the objective is to make Harry look bad. Why would he defend his brother?

  12. Noki says:

I wonder what makes William happy,I mean what makes him brim with joy or passion. He half asses everything and never seems genuine. I gurantee if he found an actual purpose he wouldnt age prematurely and be so miserable.

    • Nev says:

      Cheating.

    • Becks1 says:

Playing polo? Watching soccer? I honestly don’t know, that seems to be the extent of it. We never hear about his passions. We know what Charles is passionate about – art, organic farming, and I think he really enjoys his role as prince of wales – like, when you see him out and about in the country meeting people, attending fairs, trying local food, he seems to really enjoy himself. (and Clarence House’s IG posted local recipes this summer from a few different regions in the UK that I found really interesting.)

We know Camilla loves animals, reading (again, CH has started posting her reading lists for summer or spring, and I have found it interesting to see what she has been reading), her family.

Heck even with the Queen, she loves her corgis, horses, horse-racing, etc.

There’s just no sense of that with the Cambridges. Sailing? Tennis?

      • Sofia says:

Well we know he’s passionate about helicopters and he flew them for a living too. And he’s got the rich/aristo hobbies like polo and shooting. Football but seems more watching than playing (and honestly the UK is very football crazy anyways)

      • Becks1 says:

True, I should have added flying. So flying, polo, watching soccer, shooting weekends in the country.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

William never flew helicopters for a living. He did collect a fixed full salary, but his hours were customized to when he wanted to fly. Even then he’d take impromptu vacations leaving his coworkers to get called in on their few days off to cover his shifts.

Even his flight hours were often the absolute minimum or just under.

It seems since he does nothing now to support pilot medics being a pilot was just an excuse from working.

      • Tessa says:

I think William was indulged by his grandmother. She renovated KP for him and Kate and the children then heup and decided he missed copters and rescue work so a special berth was created just for him. He did not work nearly as hard as the others who actually did medical work on people they rescued. I think he was in the way, because he had to take a security officer with him, missed shifts and HE was given credit for The Entire Rescue by the press. He even just did co-piloting.

    • notasugarhere says:

Getting away with it, that’s what he enjoys. Cheating on his girlfriend with Kate, cheating on Kate for decades, and getting away with it. Hiding out from royal duties for years, lying about how much he was ‘working’ as a helo co-pilot, and getting away with it. That is how he’s made. When he is successful in his lying, in fooling others and getting to think he’s smarter than they are, in getting one over on them.

      • JT says:

Will doesn’t even have to lie about the cheating, he just has to be discreet about it. But he doesn’t even care enough to actually keep it quiet.

      • A says:

You’re 100% on the money. I think William likes getting away with things, period. He enjoys using his privilege to get his way, and do what he wants, without ever facing consequences or being told no. I think he likes that he can do whatever he pleases, and there will always be someone else to take the fall for him if necessary. He likes living a life where he doesn’t have to answer to anyone, or anything, except himself.

  13. Florence says:

Good. Hope he chokes on it loooool

  14. Mads says:

On a side note, my god Kate has nearly gone into Real Housewives territory with the botox and fillers. Taking a close look at the pictures from their recent engagement, she’s definitely had a fair bit of work done since she was last out in public. There’s one in particular where she is smiling and her cheeks are so puffy, almost like a chipmunk.

  15. Harper says:

Until Kate starts fainting on royal tours and embarrassing William and the firm, no one will get up in arms over Kate’s extreme thinness.

I’m just wondering where exactly Wills is located every time good news about H&M reaches him? I hope it’s far away from the little ones. His incandescent with rage persona is funny for us to laugh at, but I hope the Cambridge kids aren’t exposed to it on a regular basis.

    • Liz says:

I very much doubt he’s around them a whole lot. Even when they are living in the same “house” they probably spend most of their time with their nannies and then Kate.

      • Tessa says:

I worry that he will be as controlling with his children as he is with Harry and “warn them” about their future partners. They all might rebel which would be karma for William. Maybe George can marry an American.

      • A says:

@Tessa, I think the Cambridge kids will surprise us actually. I doubt their rebellion will be of the same variety as what’s come before.

Harry did them a favour, in many ways. By carving his own path, successfully, he’s creating a blueprint for future younger siblings of royals to do the same. It means their lives have great deal more scope and trajectory, where they’re not hemmed in unnecessarily by archaic conventions like how Margaret was, or any of the other younger siblings in the royal family.

Growing up with the knowledge that they have options could just make all the difference, but with a father like William, I can’t see him being supportive of those endeavours in the slightest. And that’s where I think there’s going to be a lot of trouble. But I also think they will, hopefully, be more tight knit and supportive of one another. They are the first generation that’s been raised with a parent that’s more or less present (Kate), who hopefully won’t have to deal with the sort of tragedy that William and Harry did. I really hope they do well, and that they stand by each other. I really am rooting for the Cambridge kids, no matter how things shake out.

    • February-Pisces says:

I don’t know how thin she has to be for people to notice something isn’t right. If she lost anymore weight she would most likely have to be hospitalised. I wonder if she has functioning periods or any other health problems as a result. Her fans do her no favours, they just come up with excuses like ‘it’s genetic’, or ‘there’s nothing wrong with her weight, she’s perfect’, which is worse because they are condoning her being this under weight. Also saying her figure looks amazing is worrisome because it won’t encourage her to get the proper help she needs to overcome her ED if she thinks everyone thinks her figure looks great.

  16. Snuffles says:

Can they come up with another term other that “incandescent with rage?” I mean, EVERY. TIME. 🙄

First of all, Will can suck it. He’s just mad Harry got a sweet deal. That said, it doesn’t matter whether or not Harry signed a deal with Netflix, I’m sure the Royal family have been dreading the Diana years being depicted for some time. It’s just going to dredge up long buried feelings all around.

It’s fascinating timing though. And I’m sure the BM will lean into the comparisons and just stoke the fires. Maybe the public will see the similarities to how Diana was treated to how Meghan was treated and The Firm doesn’t want the public making those comparisons. But, TOUGH!! They are 100% the architect behind their own destruction. They didn’t learn from the Diana years and have made the same mistakes all over again. Only this time they drove off a blood Prince on top of everything else.

    • Tessa says:

William is the cause of his own problems. He had so many opportunities to make a difference but in his twenties he was doing all the bar hopping and vacationing. He did not get interested in any of his father’s work including the Duchy and did not bother much with DIana’s causes like Centrepoint. He could have carved out a career. He married someone who totally enabled his lack of work ethic and then tried to keep Harry undercontrol and was afraid he was being overshadowed. Harry was thrown to the wolves and WIlliam as heir was protected with his dad even apologizing for him (William went along speeding in his car on someone else’s private property). HE should have thought of all this years ago. and done something more with his life.

  17. Kalana says:

I’m sorry but Kate’s latest round of plastic surgery is so bad. What did she do to her cheeks? Her face looks like it’s melting.

Charles, William and Harry all turned up to support Richard Attenborough’s documentary on Netflix so that excuse is out.

William needs to stop throwing tantrums, figure out his Ted talk speech (Go away plebes so that my family can go on safari and throw racist birthday parties using “Africa” as a theme!) and explain what he’s doing with Earthshot.

  18. Olenna says:

Jeez, for a second I thought that was Woody Harrelson.

  19. anon says:

Now they’re just digging through the rubble looking for any bits and bobs that can be leveraged into another story. Who cares? This one just doesn’t stick the landing.

But I’m sure Harry is crying all the way to the bank with all that Netflix (aka/FREEEEEDOOOOOM!!) money.

  20. Traci says:

  21. Snuffles says:

    @Sofia

I think they will go with a well rounded portrayal. From everything i heard, Charles was pushed into marrying Diana when he really didn’t want to. He was getting too old and Diana looked perfect on paper. It will probably show an institution that was cold and unfeeling and unwilling to deal with Diana’s mental health issues. Charles was probably at a loss on how to deal with it and clearly didn’t care enough for her to try. An Institution who doesn’t care one iota for the people who represent it. Like Meghan said the whole stiff upper lip and just get on with it mentality is deeply psychologically damaging.

    • Sofia says:

Yeah I think they’ll go for something like this but again like I said, it’s not going to be a no barrels beat down against the Windsosr. Again, with how sympathetic Charles’ portrayal was in S3, I’m not expecting they’ll do a 180 and have Charles being completely unsympathetic.

    • Becks1 says:

I think the most they will do is what we have seen for the first three seasons – emphasize the Queen’s inability to respond to the emotional needs of someone else – we saw that with Phillip (who was an ahole but part of the issue as portrayed in the Crown was that the Queen could not understand why he was such an ahole), we saw it with Aberfan, we saw it with her and Philip and the QM stepping in to stop Charles from marrying Camilla*, and I think we’ll see it again with Diana. I think Charles will look bad, but I think the emphasis is going to be on how the institution of “the crown” (as represented by the Queen) cannot deal with an emotional situation or person.

*of course the story was going along with the Charles-pushed narrative that he and Camilla were in love but were not allowed to marry, which makes me think that the portrayal of Charles and Camilla in the next season wont be that negative, it will be told as a thwarted love story.

      • Sofia says:

I agree becks. I don’t think the Windsors are going to get dragged like they and people think they will. HM will blame “The Crown”

      • Tessa says:

CHarles did not want to marry Camilla when he first met her. He told Dimbleby this in an interview, he was not ready to get married. I am worried about how Diana will be depicted and Camilla’s behavior (and Charles) will be whitewashed. The QUeen and Philip did apparently interfere with Margaret and Townsend.

      • Sofia says:

@Tessa: The Queen and Philip may have interfered with Townsend but not to the extent shown on the show.

In reality, HM and Anthony Eden came up with a plan that would allow Margaret to marry Peter, receive an “allowance” and even continue with public duties as long as the public were okay with it (and they probably would have been because Margaret was popular at the time). The only thing she would lose is her and her children’s place in the line of succession.

It was Margaret herself who decided to end it. In letters it’s implied she didn’t want to live as a “simple housewife” with Peter and it’s been well documented she enjoyed the ritz and glamour of being a royal.

      • Tessa says:

Yes I had read that and it made me think that it was not the all encompassing love that it was portrayed to be. she chose wealth and influence over Townsend. And selfishly she expected HIM to not marry and she would be faithful by not marrying either. He let her know he was marrying someone younger than she was so that got her really wanting to get married ASAP so she decided on Armstrong Jones.

    • Tessa says:

Diana dealt with the bulimia issue after the separation and she got it under control. The royal women did not “understand” why Diana had morning sickness when none of them did. I don’t think Charles was forced to marry Diana he wanted it all and he wanted to have the suitable wife and royal heirs with Camilla around on the side. THere were also other ladies around during that time including Janet Jenkins. DIana was an asset to the royal family much like Harry and Meghan are today, and the RF treated her badly. Charles even got jealous of her. I think Charles had many issues.

      • ennie says:

IIRC , Diana was bulimic from the start of her marriage. She allegedly tried to commit suicide in January , 1982 less than a year after their wedding, which was a loud cry fro help.
I thinks could have had an ED even before her marriage Remember that she practiced ballet, and was stopped for pursuing more because of her height.

      • Tessa says:

She had a predisposition to Bulimia. I think eating disorders ran in her family. Her sister when rejected by the Duke of Westminster became really ill with anorexia. She got it under control. Those who were friends with Diana and those who employed her noticed no symptoms of eating disorder. She never appeared to be extremely thin before the engagement to Charles. She could not really pursue dancing because she broke her leg skiing. When she moved into BP, then the bulimia symptoms emerged. She was under tremendous stress like her sister Sarah was.

      • ennie says:

I remember reading excerpts, and I don’t know from whom, I’m sorry, but it was probably gossip, that she had bouts of bulimia and Charles was grossed out by it and another excuse to be away from her, as he could not understand her emotional turmoil nor wanted to actually being near her after she had vomited.

      • A says:

@Tessa, eating disorders, and patterns of disordered eating in general, are ridiculously common amongst family members. If one person in a family has issues with their body image, other people absorb that message, and internalize it, and act accordingly. Diana grew up in a house and at a time when crash and yo yo dieting was extremely common. It wasn’t just her sister who was bulimic, but also a lot of the people in her friend group. The whole Sloane Ranger aesthetic was predicated on being extremely slender. Add to this the fact that eating is an emotional experience for a lot of people, and how people can turn to eating as a comfort during difficult or stressful times, and you get the perfect environment for eating disorders to flourish.

Whenever I think about this stuff, I always remember Bridget Jones’ Diary, the book. How Bridget would record the calories of every thing she ate, how much she stressed about her weight, constantly. All the cigarettes she smoked for her appetite. Even though the book came out in the 90s, that was the cultural context Diana grew up in. She was starved of affection in a society that told her that being skinny would help her get that affection and love, who ate compulsively because food was a comfort and a curse at the same time.

    • Tessa says:

Charles was 32 and a grown man, He made the decision and nobody else. He did not have to marry her and should have thought of her when he knew he did not love Diana. He is very selfish.

      • Snuffles says:

Yes, Charles should have thought about that but that plays into the recurring theme of his life – he’s a coward. He’s never had the nerve to stand up for what is right or what he believed in. Not once. He has always been terrified of rocking the boat an upsetting mummy and daddy.

      • ennie says:

remember that the rule was “a virgin” , and there was not much to choose from. I bet all things became crazier after their uncle’s abdication. In other monarchies things were more lax, while in others other doomed marriages occurred, like the Spanish marriage.

      • Tessa says:

Charles was said to be besotted with Anna Wallace who had “experience.” She was seen publicly with him and they were said to be serious She broke up with him when he danced the night away with Camilla and ignored her. And Charles was said to have wanted ANna back. He may have married her and the “experience” would be downplayed.

  24. ABritGuest says:

I agree this is fan fiction. the press probably can guess the royals‘ feelings on this matter. But not only did Charles, William & Harry support premiere of an Attenborough Netflix doc but the Fail claimed William was working with Netflix for a Tusk documentary.
Plus Anne, Zara have talked of watching the Crown& it was reported that the Queen, Edward and Sophie were fans of the first season at least.

And if William can work closely with the same PRESS that exploited his mum, called him workshy and throne idle etc, hacked his, Kate’s & Harry’s phones- how can he be mad about a Netflix deal because of the Crown?

As another poster said it’s interesting that nobody in the family can brief that they are happy for Harry even if they preferred he stayed. Maybe some are and it won’t be reported as doesn’t fit press narrative but was interesting that last year some royal experts claimed that Harry has to find a role. Least getting this financial independence means Harry less likely to have cash for access scandals etc.

  25. Lizzie says:

For someone who keeps associating himself with mental health he sure has a lot of rage.

    • Tessa says:

The trouble with William is he lacks humility. He thinks he’s perfect and had to nerve to advise his brother about who he was dating.

  26. Kimber says:

Typically with a close couple, if one is ‘emoting’ like Wills is here in the pic, the spouse will watch what they are doing. She is studiously ignoring his antics and looking at … whoever they are talking with. They are not in sync in any way. It’s so obvious. Even when she touches him… I think during this same visit- they aren’t connecting. You only have to see H/M looking into each other’s eyes to see what connection looks like. (And respect).
Also- Harry looks so handsome in that black suit….WOW

  27. KellyRyan says:

Who would hire Willie for any position? What qualifications does he have? Brief period flying helicopters? Correct me if I’m mistaken but he took second seat and obtained the position because he was a royal. Willie does not want to be king, he’d prefer the moneyed playboy life and is extremely jealous Harry has the popularity, presence and work ethic he’ll never have.

  28. MegJ says:

Just another temper tantrum from William, far out, he has so much to be grateful for but all he cares about is bitterness and jealousy. Grow up dude!

  29. Valiantly Varnished says:

The REAL reason he’s “incandescent with rage” is that he thought by exiling little brother and his black wife that he would fade into obscurity never to be heard from again. He’s angry that not only is that NOT what happened but little brother is THRIVING and is doing it without the help or money of the BRF. Stay mad Wilbur. Stay mad.

  30. Osty says:

Wills isnt angry with the family n media who caused his mum all the pain in real life, ( he is busy working with same media to smear his brother n stroke his ego) , but at his brother for working with a network that will show a movie of it ,😃😃😃😃 so ridiculous

    • Jay says:

That’s how I interpreted it, too – if he’s so angry, better to direct that anger at those who perpetuated Diana’s eating disorder, and hopefully prevent it from happening again.

    • Babz says:

@Osty, I have always been bewildered by how both men have dealt with the problems their mother suffered with the British press. Both hate the press, and always have done, but they both played the press game a little. They were both so young when Diana died, but William had the advantage of being a couple of years older, and there is a huge chasm of emotional maturity between ages 12 and 15. Harry held it in, acted out, escaped whenever he could, joined the army, and finally hit bottom enough to realize he needed therapy. Will was probably doing much the same thing, but was shielded by the press because he was the heir. He seems to have stalled in emotional growth around the college frat-boy age. Harry decided that playing the press game wasn’t for him, reacted like an adult and removed his wife and child from a toxic situation, and deals with the press on his own terms. Will, meanwhile, reacts like that spoiled child he still is, and throws tantrums and works with the very same press that tormented his mother. He hasn’t grown out of the spoiled child stage, and jealously and callously gets back at his brother using the press as his own blunt instrument. There’s no doubt who’s the emotionally crippled brother in this, it’s the FFK. Living with someone like that guarantees tension, chaos, and mayhem. Until he hits bottom emotionally, and gets the help he so desperately needs, he will have learned none of the lessons from his mother’s death, and will continue to collaborate with the entity that chased her to her death.

  31. The Duchess says:

Harry doesn’t owe Baldy anything. The least Baldy could do is show a bit of support to Harry, Meghan & Archie. Would it hurt to throw a sign of public support, even if you secretly don’t mean it? We all knew what his intentions were from day one. Baldy is mad that his brother has grown up, met the love of his life, started a family and carved out his own destiny. Things weren’t suppose to pan out this way in the royals sick fantasy of the Sussexes. Baldy has bigger fish to fry in his own personal life than obsessing over his little brother. It’s time to move on.

  32. Tessa says:

He makes the “rat face” in that photo.

  33. AGreatDane says:

There’s also like 5 documentaries on Netflix about strong and powerful and capable the Windsors are, holding on to the public purse while the rest of Europe grew up a little. The courtiers have to feed the beast, and now they’re scraping the bottom of the barrel.

  34. tcbc says:

Peter Morgan is a royalist. He’s gone soft on them so far, there’s no reason to believe he’d take the knives out now. And as much as the royals (and many of their fans) would like to believe that Diana was so different from the rest of them, she was also a toff. It’s the non-toffs who get the short end of the stick on “The Crown.” None of the richie-riches have anything to worry about.

  35. Amy Bee says:

Yeah, I’m having a hard time believing this one. I don’t believe he cares about the Crown, but I definitely believe he’s angry that Harry has a Netflix deal. I always get the impression that William has complicated feelings regarding his mother. I think he loves her but I don’t think he approves of her as a person or her work. I think his views on Diana are probably the same as the rest of the Royal Family. For Harry, Diana is his role model for her work and as a mother but also as an example how to deal with the press. He refuses to be forced into the media game that Diana felt she had to play to defend herself.

    • February-Pisces says:

I think he loves his mother, but it’s been drummed into him that there can never be anyone like her allowed into that family, ever again! If kate was as popular as Diana, that would only mean trouble for William. At the end of the day, he’s the next Charles not Diana, and anyone who embodies her is a threat to him.

    • Nyro says:

Yes, I’ve noticed this too. He seems to take the establishment party line on his mother, that she was a problem and that the crown survives not because of her, but in spite of her. I think he sees her as weak, unstable, and frivolous. It feels like he grew up hearing the adults around him disparage her character and he work.

      • tolly says:

This came through a lot when Wills talked about his expectations for Kate, and how she had to prove that she could handle the pressure. On the other hand, Harry talked about his own responsibility to protect Meghan. It seems that the boys heard the same criticism, but came to very different conclusions.

      • Babz says:

I feel like he loved his mom, but was also angry at her for not doing enough to keep the family together (in his eyes), and was embarrassed by her, too, especially in those last days when she was seeing Dodi and beginning to dabble in the jet-set life outside of the UK. He was 15, he had to have read about the romance in the papers, and a teenage boy at that age will always be squicked out by the thought of his mom and another man. They may have talked, he may have said it was ok, but deep down inside it wasn’t, and then she died, leaving a lot of confusing feelings behind. He may also have been aware of the old stories of the Squidgygate telephone calls, and rumors of her relationship with James Hewitt, and of his dad’s with Camilla, and then you’re looking at a really mixed up young man. With no way to resolve all those conflicting emotions with Diana, and the Firm’s inability to help him deal with the grief, there’s no way he doesn’t still have those feelings. For all his mental health talk, he has not gotten past that teenage boy anger and embarrassment.

      • Tessa says:

Charles also used his sons in the Camilla promotion, less than a year after Diana died. I don’t know what the hurry was he had to wait until 2005 to marry Camilla (his grandmother disapproved of his marrying Camilla and he had to wait after the Queen Mother passed on plus there was the Burrell Trial. I think WIlliam has anger issues. And maybe he thinks he does not need help.

      • Nyro says:

Yes!! It seems William came to the conclusion that his mom was a problem in that she was weak and couldn’t hack it. Whereas Harry understands that she needed support and protection, which was withheld from her. And the fact of who they both chose as wives just says so much. Kate, at 38, is nearly everything the royals hoped they were getting with 19 year old Diana. A silent and compliant dress up doll. Harry, in the other hand, married a woman who is in many ways similar to what 36 year old Diana had become, a confident savvy woman who knows her worth and would not put up with mistreatment. Their choice of wives is fascinating.

  36. What eating you says:

Many people feel bad for Kate but I for one do not, she made her bed so now she must deal. Once you actively part take in a smear complain against a woman who is in her most vulnerable time which is pregnancy, you are trash forever in my eyes. If won’t had balls then KP would come out and say what is actually wrong with Kate and get some sympathy since that’s the only card that they know how to play, it would give Kate the perfect cover she needs to be in the spotlight but not have to work as per usual.

  37. L4frimaire says:

How many seasons has the Crown been on now? Can they ever just stop with the bullsh*t? Freedom of speech and freedom of association. If they were at Disney, they’d use “Hamilton” as the excuse. Is this nonsense coming from the press or actually William?

  38. Nini says:

Is it just me or does Harry actually get hotter and hotter in each pic? I’ve never really been hot for him although I have really liked him (pale ginger men are not really my type), but he just keeps looking better.

  39. Tashiro says:

I don’t believe this story at all.

  40. February-Pisces says:

We all know Willie is just mad that he got rejected by Netflix, whilst his younger brother was handed hundreds of millions of dollars on a plate.

Anyway Willie is so mad because of the Crown, yet he doesn’t seem to mind collaborating with the same newspapers and reporters that literally made his mothers life hell. Piers Morgan was editor on the daily mirror when they paid James Hewitt’s girlfriend to rob him, and steal Diana’s private letters a few months after her death. Piers who is another one on willies payroll literally tried to rob his mothers grave when she wasn’t even cold, and he has no problem colluding with him to trash Meghan. I can’t even imagine all the people who wronged Diana, that William has now teamed up with.

I have avoided saying this because I didn’t want to go there, because I of course I don’t deny his grief, but William sold her out too, and I think she would be so disappointed to him the person he is today.

He’s totally sold her out. The man is a Windsor through and through.

    • MsIam says:

You know I read an article years ago that supposedly interviewed som school friend of William. She said William told her he was embarrassed by Diana but not by Charles. She didn’t give any specifics that I recall and who knows if this is true. But it would not surprise me if he does disapprove of her and also why he married bland, compliant Kate.

      • Tessa says:

I think Charles embarrassed him. There was a BBC documentary that the royals had demanded not be shown. WIlliam was angry at his father for spreading the story worldwide that he and Camilla met for tea. He did not like to be used by his father that way. William was a brat with his parents and both of them. HE was disrespectful when he barred them from an Eton picnic. Charles DID embarrass William. Not just DIana. I think he tried to date other women like Isabella Calthorpe who has more charisma than Kate but she did not want him. I don’t think his choosing Kate had anything to do with Diana. HE also probably was lectured to by Carole saying how “Devoted” Kate is for “all these years.” The “embarrassed by Diana sources” generally come from Charles sympathizers who raise Charles to sainthood. But that said I think William was bratty to his parents.

      • A says:

@Tessa, and y’know what, in a more compassionate environment, William being a moody, fitful teenager would be totally normal. What teenager in the world hasn’t been a brat to their parents? Even David Beckham’s kids were embarrassed when he would drop them off at school, so if even he’s not immune, who is? I remember Michelle Obama talking about how her and her husband went to their daughter’s parent-teacher interview, and they had to bring their secret service detail, and their daughter just wanted to disappear from the embarrassment. And this is Barack and Michelle Obama, who are literally the parents everyone else wishes they had.

But of course, because this is the royal family, not a loving, caring, normal one, William’s stroppiness is seen as a bigger, more personal affront by every single one of them, because they’re so sensitive to anything except constant coddling. For literally any other parent, being told they’re embarrassing is just a regular Tuesday. For Charles, it’s the inevitable end of the world. Insert eyeroll here.

      • February-Pisces says:

Diana was the black sheep of the aristocracy, she broke all of their unwritten rules. Harry probably loved that about her, hence why he’s always dated strong women, Willie was probably embarrassed because he’s so desperate to please the toffs. He’s not a maverick like Diana and harry, he’s a sheep.

Willie marrying a docile woman like Kate, is his way of correcting the wrong that his father made. He spent a decade testing Kate making sure she wouldn’t do a Diana and kick up a fuss.

  41. Lizzie says:

What a brat, always was and always will be.

  42. Laurelita42 says:

I do think that part of the reason William is so mad about Netflix in particular right now is that if Meghan never happened, the subconscious comparison would have been a more positive one between Diana and Kate. You know, the public adores the new married-in wife and so on, and we know how badly Kate wants to be thought of as The New Diana. But now the comparison is going to be more about Diana and Meghan, and how the RF refused to protect a vulnerable woman. I wouldn’t be shocked if a few more people came over to Meghan’s ‘side’ after the new season airs.

  43. Kittylouise says:

    It’s just jealousy isn’t it.

Someone commented earlier about how little we know about any of Will’s interests. For all his faults, Charles has been very clear and open about his wide range of interests – architecture, gardening, conservation and sustainability, setting up the Princes Trust etc. I think this was all well known by the time he was William’s age.

What has he done in comparison? I few half arsed mental health initiatives. He could have worked with his father and got involved with the Princes Trust (or created his own thing). He could have created Invictus like Harry. He could have set up a clothing line/charity and worked with the Grenfell support kitchen like his sister in law did (in less than 18 months!). But he hasn’t done anything of any note. What does he actually stand for? Nobody knows, because he’s been too lazy to make his mark.

    • Nyro says:

Speaking of Grenfell, when he visited the site, he promised ready eyes and distraught survivors of that tragedy that he would be back. He hasn’t shown his face since then.

He has no passion. He’s been allowed to half-ads his way through life, time and time again. It can’t be because he’s an heir because Charles has passion and he’s well read and curious about the world. Will is just a privileged, empty headed, aimless manchild toff. He’s exactly what they try to paint Harry as.

      • Harper says:

Even the aimless toff may have inherited an estate that he wants to keep in the family and avoiding being the heir that fails to keep it from the auction block, so has some ambition in that regard! But Wills doesn’t even fit into that category. He really is a puzzlement, almost forty and still looks as if he’s being dragged along by the hand to do his duty.

  44. Feeshalori says:

It’s all sound and fury signifying nothing, this is just plain jealousy on William’s part. He just seems to live 24/7 in a state of incandescent rage.

  45. nettie says:

    Jealous much ? I’m sure that’s all it is…

  46. Thaisajs says:

I wouldn’t be surprised in William was pissed. His little bro gets to live near the beach in California in a private, gated community where he can hang with his little kid and his wife. He doesn’t have to do anything he doesn’t want to do. Meanwhile, William is visiting senior centers, playing virtual bingo with people and playing 2nd fiddle to his wife, while waiting for his chance — in maybe 20 years? — to be king. Where he gets to do more of the same. I’d be pissed to, tbh.

  47. NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

From now on, if we don’t see Kate for a few months, I’m just going to assume she’s had plastic surgery. I think as long as she has clothes and a pretty place to lay her head, she’s okay with whatever else happens.

The more this goes on, the more I doubt that Harry and William were ever actually close. It seems Harry is Diana’s true successor in the world and William has been brainwashed into being the exact opposite. I believe that the Queen and Philip did more to raise William as future king whereas Charles AND Diana were left with Harry more. The relationship between the two seemed more mechanical than brotherly. When I look back at the moments with these two, I see Harry being Harry and William more at ease with him around. With the way things were between Charles and Diana, I can see The Queen thinking that they needed to keep William’s upbringing secure and Elizabeth wanted to mould William in her image since she was known to be so hands off with Charles. I think it shows because of how conservative, angry, and abusive William comes off that he takes more after his grandparents than his parents. I would think despite everything William would have been more grounded had he truly been raised by Charles and more engaging. His lack of ability to engage takes more after his grandparents.

    • Babz says:

You’re on to something here. I remember reading that while Will was at Eton, he walked up to Windsor Castle every week for tea with Granny. It was said that she used the time to instruct him about being King. That’s a lot of influence at an impressionable age, and from what I have read about British boarding schools, the visits from parents weren’t all that frequent (parents days, etc.), so Granny was getting consistent blocks of time to influence him, while his parents, not so much. It’s not such a surprise, then, that Granny’s and Phillip’s voices were the loudest in his head.

      • A says:

Yes. Diana, iirc, also had issues with William going to Eton for the proximity to Windsor Castle. He would come home on weekends, but having to spend time with the Queen cut into the amount of time he spent with Diana, and she was wary that the Queen was using those visits to shape him in a way that Diana didn’t exactly agree with.

      • NotSoSimpleTaylor says:

He strikes me being similar to Elizabeth’s father. George was known for being “off” and incredibly traumatized because his parents were awful to all of their children. The fact he was forced into a job he wasn’t in any way prepared for didn’t help. I do think that George and Queen Mother Elizabeth had the best intentions to raise their daughters in a much more gentler fashion. Young Elizabeth was woefully ill-equipped to be Queen and was unable to focus on being Queen, her marriage and Charles and Anne. I always suspected she’s made a feeble attempt to make up for that with William. He always struck me as a more earlier century aristocratic that is bitter he’s stuck in the 2000s.

I don’t know, his whole persona just strikes me as a grumpy bitter old man stuck in a middle aged body. That would suggest to me spending far too much time with elderly people, like his grandparents.

  48. Mariane says:

lol says the guy who participated in so many Diana documentaries with itv and bbc. The jealous loser envied harry for his accomplishments and abilities and now he envies his happiness. I blame his father and lizzy who spoiled him all his life. He was never taught to work for his position/luxury. This reminds me of him bragging about getting his security to shoot laser into his classmates so he could win a game. What a pathetic arrogant thing. I pray none of his kids inherit his traits.

    • Tessa says:

I remember also how when CHarles took him for photo ops at a Duchy farm (something william seems not interested in), he laughed when two reporters were “shocked” by the electric fence. something off about William.

      • Nyro says:

There’s a clip of him at around eight or nine years old, literally punching Charles in the head, over and over. It looked like they were horsing around and then he just decided to take advantage and tried to really harm his dad. In fact, I think little Harry was in the clip too, trying to stop Will from pummeling their dad in the head.

  49. Charfromdarock says:

That header picture is just perfection 👌!

  50. A says:

What I find really interesting is that there are multiple sources that have now talked about how Harry has issues with controlling his temper. Even the Omid Scobie book talked about it, even as it took pains to mention that he was making an effort to work on that through things like meditating and mindfulness etc.

But there has never been so much as a whisper about William. Fwiw, I do think William is much better at suppressing his emotional responses, purely as a result of a lifetime spent being FFK, and the training that requires. But suppressing one’s emotions =/= controlling one’s emotional responses in an appropriate, constructive way. People call the Queen Petty Betty for a fucking reason. She’s snippy and rude when she’s unhappy, and incredibly standoffish, passive aggressive, and downright cold when it comes to expressing her disapproval. Those are not signs of an emotionally mature individual, they are signs of a person who has never developed a healthy relationship with their own feelings, who lashes out routinely when they feel slighted.

William strikes me as somewhat similar to that. I think he takes great pains to try and keep a jovial, friendly mask on in public, but the disdain that rolls off of him for everyone and everything he encounters is palpable. He might not be prone to emotional outbursts, but that doesn’t make his own ability to manage them healthy or stable. I think he lacks Harry’s self-awareness in a big way. So it doesn’t surprise me that he has issues with anger. He might not be stomping around, yelling at people, but there have been stories abound that his staff members find him difficult and temperamental to work with (and yet somehow, he never gets labeled a diva, weird). He is rumoured to be rather reactionary in some of his views behind closed doors, and in general, rather rude. Especially when he feels his desires are not being catered to.

So yeah, I definitely think that he’s livid about Harry signing a deal with Netflix. I don’t think it’s because he’s angry about how Diana might be depicted in the Crown. I think it’s because he really is jealous. Harry has his own money now. Whatever he does, he’s shown that he is willing to work for a living, and that he’s capable of doing so. He is doing what William has always wanted to do, which is cut this institution loose, and live his own life. I think William saw the reported amount they got from that deal and truly did blow a gasket, because it made all of it so much more real. He’s watching the brother he’d always lowkey hoped he’d get to parcel off his own responsibilities to, living the life he’s always wanted. He’s watching this go down and probably thinking, “That could have been me.”

So yeah. I don’t think he cares one whit about the Crown or any of its portrayals. The Queen and her family should actually be thanking Peter Morgan on bended knee. That man and his work have been doing more to ensure the Queen’s popularity than literally anything any of the most hard core reactionary Tories could do. He is the best PR person the royal family has ever had. Even the stuff with Diana is going to be handled with a light touch, the same way all the rest of the stories in the series have been. It’ll make the Queen come off looking incredibly sympathetic, the same way the movie about her in 2006 wiped the slate clean for her when it came to Diana’s death. Peter Morgan added at least a few years extra to this institution. William isn’t going to turn his nose up at that.

  51. Villanelle says:

I much prefer Harry and Meghan to William and Catherine. I lived in London when Diana died. An American friend woke me up to tell me. I remember going to Kensington Palace to lay flowers at the gate, I don’t know why as that’s not the sort of thing I would usually do. It was just a really tragic time, and I wanted to honor it. As I was right up at the gate to lay the bouquet, little William and Harry were trotted our across the lawn, and they waved to the mourning public, their heads shy and bowed, hiding their eyes. It broke my damn heart that they had to do that, it made the whole situation that much worse.

That’s only to say, as much as I side with Harry, I cannot begin to imagine the weight of grief and expectation, familial and public and royal, that crashed down onto William’s head the day his mother died. And no one with any sense to guide him. No wonder he’s angry and broken, and no wonder he’s so jealous of his baby brother. But in my living memory, he was a sad little boy with a shock of hair covering his eyes.

    • A says:

I agree with you on William. It’s hard to scrounge up the empathy for him, but I am compassionate. And I think, there are moments when he does feel able to connect with people, because he knew his mother better than a lot of others did. And I cannot imagine carrying that within him for his whole life.

There was one engagement he had with an early childhood bereavement group, which I think is definitely a more worthwhile cause that he’s taken up. And I still remember how he talked to one of the children there who had lost their mother, and he said, “I lost my mother when I was younger too.” That moved me. I know that it’s better for Harry to be out of William’s orbit, in so many ways. I think, in the long run, both of them will be better off for it. But I also think about how, some day, William and Harry will be the only two people left who could really say they knew Diana as their mother. Who else would be left with those memories? It’s depressing how one’s own shortsightedness can result in a lot of different, small losses.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

I lost my father at 12 same average age as Harry and William when they lost Diana.
And While I’ll not criticize how people grieve in private I will criticize how they use the death of a parent to excuse their behaviors as adults. William will encore her memory for his own benefit in the press. To honor her? Give me a recent in the last few years example. I’ll wait.
Harry does this all the time.

I can empathize with the extreme suffering and void losing a parent gives their child. I will make no excuses for that now adult to use that event as a crutch. Live in a way that honors your parent you’ve lost. Not as a pity tactic.

lol I posted about that clip years ago on a article about William not forgiving Charles and them having a troubled relationship. On it you could see how loving harry is and vs William’s distance. This is obviously when they were young & before Diana’s death but its telling how distant they are.

    • Q says:

Either that is a shorter version of the clip or it wasn’t as bad as I remembered it.
The one I remember william was going at it again and again until it became uncomfortable.
He was hitting charles with his elbow and fist and even kicking him. I’ll have to look it up.

      • Nyro says:

Yes, the clip I saw was much worse. It was quite disturbing and I’m certain I remember little Harry trying to stop William. It must have been some of the raw footage from that documentary. They clearly edited out the disturbing behavior in order to protect William. And I hadn’t realized how old William was. I remembered it as him being around eight years old but he looks about twelve years old there, which makes his behavior even worse.
