Emma Stone & Dave McCary quietly got married after cancelling their March wedding

Emma Stone and SNL writer Dave McCary announced their engagement last December. He got to announce it on his Instagram, because Emma doesn’t have an official IG. I loved their engagement mostly because I enjoyed the off-beat pearl-and-diamond engagement ring, which suits Emma’s personality. They scheduled a smallish wedding in March of this year… but they had to cancel the wedding at the last minute because of the pandemic. I could have sworn that there were rumors about Emma and Dave still doing some kind of tiny wedding in March or April, but I guess I didn’t cover it, or maybe I’m just misremembering it. In any case, it’s looking like they did get married at some point this year!

Emma Stone and Dave McCary are married, Page Six has confirmed. After photos of Stone, 31, and McCary, 35, surfaced this week showing the couple wearing matching gold bands, a source told us they have definitely tied the knot.

Page Six previously reported that the couple postponed their March wedding amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Oscar-winning actress and McCary, a former segment director on “Saturday Night Live,” announced their engagement on social media in December 2019. In the selfie, posted to McCary’s Instagram, Stone smiles as she holds up her pearl engagement ring. The pair were first romantically linked in October 2017, but actually met when she hosted “SNL” in 2016. Reps did not immediately return our request for comment.

I’m happy for them. It’s nice that they were able to quietly pull off a pandemic wedding at some point, somewhere. I would assume that we didn’t hear about it before now because they probably didn’t get to invite anyone but their parents. I would love to see Emma’s dress, but I bet we’ll never get to see it. I want to see her originally-planned dress and what she eventually wore to her pandemic wedding.

Also: the reason why people are even talking about “did Emma and Dave quietly marry” is because of the new photos of them this week, where Emma seems to be quite obviously pregnant. Like, she’s pretty far along. Pandemic weddings and pandemic pregnancies are the other huge trend, along with pandemic breakups.

All I know is that you’d have to be very hopeful, very naive, or very selfish to bring a baby into the world right now. I know that’s cynical and depressing, but this mess we’re in is not going away any time soon, and I would feel irresponsible creating a person.

    But I hope love wins.

    • Mindy_Dopple says:

That’s definitely a tough view to have but if you think about it, THEIR child will never really experience any of that…. so that’s they’re thinking?

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Or, people are just trying to get on with their lives, plans, and dreams. Some of those lives, plans and dreams including having children.

The same discussion happens during or after many disasters.

By the time pandemic babies are walking, the situation with COVID will look a little different. The climate emergency however will intensify.

    • Genevieve says:

COMPLETELY agree. I feel a lot of feelings about friends who insist on getting pregnant right now because they have the time or -quite frankly-they are bored and feeling out of control. I have to respect everyone and their choices and I’m not openly criticizing anyone. With absolutely everything that’s happening in the world and the fact that we have not set up solutions for global warming, it becomes clear that having a child is actually the selfish thing people have criticized child free lifestyles to be all along.

      • Arpeggi says:

And yet, we’ll need younger people to exist later on, when we’ll be old and need doctors, nurses, plumbers, lawyers and so on… Of course having a child is somewhat selfish and irrational, like any of our decisions really. To some, it’s a real need, it’s biology kicking.

And yeah, we can talk about over population and over consumption all we want, but the truth is, the biggest problem isn’t a couple wanting their average 1.4 child/household, it’s women/couples not having access to birth control and abortions when they want them and ending up with kids they never wanted in the 1st place. And that a single North American produces more trash and consumes more resources than a dozen of Indians

      • babsjohnson says:

Maybe some of those kids will set a solution for global warming… What I don’t get is hopelessness.

        Man, sometimes the comments here…

Let me just say that I don’t consider childfree people to be selfish at all. I think it is introspective and admirable to consider whether you want to be a parent, and to make the choice that is right for you.

That said, parenting and choosing to have children is ALSO not selfish. We have no way to know whether this was a deliberate, planned decision or a surprise, and either way, it’s not really anyone’s business but the two people involved. I would not choose to have a baby at the present moment, but it’s easy for me to say that because my baby-having days are well behind me (my youngest turns 8 today!) Every woman and every couple makes the choices that are right for them. Women who have delayed having children for a career or because of family circumstances, or who met the right person later than they thought they might sometimes can’t afford to wait another 6 months or more.

Honest question; if you don’t believe that anyone should have any more children until we have the climate crisis figured out, have you considered that that could very well cause the end of civilization as we know it? If a generation is missed, there is no way for the species to recover.

@AMA1977, we actually have way too many people in the world right now! If we could reduce the current numbers that exist, that would actually probably be one of our only hopes.

      • Arpeggi says:

@Meepy: we don’t have way too many ppl on this planet, we could handle 9 billion ppl if they were all living similarly to a 1960’s US family. We have an over-consumption problem: we buy too much stuff, throw it away and buy it again because that’s the only way there’ll be constant economic growth.

I just had to work at not having a panic attack because of your comment. Maybe a trigger warning next time.

      • Ravensdaughter says:

The world is a very anxiety provoking place right now. I meditate for anxiety, among other things, and I know that the meditation apps that are out there are so popular now.
If you’re prone to anxiety, as I am too, thinking about COVID and climate change and all the implications could definitely push you over. Hang in there. We need you.

    • Bluetopaz says:

Good for you, sanctimonious poster! I hope you don’t hurt yourself, clapping that back of yours so hard!

  2. Lilly says:

They are a really boring couple but I think that’s how she likes it? I mean he hit the jackpot dating one of the highest paid actresses, he left writing for snl a few years ago and hasn’t done anything since apart from directing a little comedy special and wrote on the episode Emma was last in must be nice.

  3. Mindy_Dopple says:

I mean, now is the time for a baby since no projects are moving forward and things are at a stand still for now. I’ve even thought about finally getting adult braces since no one will really see my mouth for the next year or two.

  4. smcollins says:

Awe, I adore Emma and I’m happy for her. Congrats to them! And if they are indeed expecting congrats for that also!

  5. Case says:

Good for them! I imagine now is a great time for celebs to have babies – no work commitments and they can stay out of the public eye without anyone questioning it. I like Emma a lot and I wish them well. I admire how low-key she is despite being a popular actress.

I do agree with the above sentiments that generally now does not seem like the time to have a baby, though. It’s a personal choice obviously and they have enough wealth to create a secure future for their child, but personally, I wouldn’t have a baby right now. The world is a dark place and the climate crisis is only getting more serious every day. At the moment, my plan is to enjoy my own life and hope the world doesn’t end in my lifetime.

  6. Seraphina says:

Congrats to both of them and I simply adore Emma. She has great comedic timing. I liked her on The Help and adored her after her skits on SNL! BRILLIANT!!!
