I saw The Prom on Broadway, just before it closed. It was a lovely, sweet musical. As the mom of a LGBTQ+ teen, it made me really happy. The trailer doesn’t do the story any favors. I knew they were making the movie, I’m so glad it’s getting a home on Netflix! Give this one the benefit of the doubt!
As a Meryl Streep die hard fan, I will watch it. In fact I have The French Lieutenants Woman saved on my TiVo, which I have watched serval times, but one of my favorites is Sophias Choice, Silkwood and The Deer Hunter. All exceptional classics!! She is an exceptional actor and her ability to transform herself into her character is astonishing! And Out Of Africa is one of my favorites, though I have always cherished Sydney Pollack. One of our generations greatest directors, along with Mike Nichols.
Meryl is an insanely talented actress in her own way, in a different way to another insanely talented actor, Marion Cotillard. Some of her less-acclaimed performances were actually comedic or semi-comedic ones like She-Devil and Death Becomes Her.
Nicole and Meryl wanted a chance to sing on screen again so they took these parts.
I kind of like it because the trailer doesn’t give away much. I’ll probably watch it.

My dear friend was Barry Glickman on Broadway. I saw the show when it first opened, and LOVED it. I really hate that the supertalented Broadway cast didn’t make it to the screen version. But what else is new? Hollywood is myopic and annoying.
He was SUCH FUN on Broadway. And yes, the B’way cast should have been brought over, but when you can get Meryl Streep, you get Meryl Streep.
Yes, Brooks is an amazing character actor and would’ve slayed it on screen. That whole cast, as you saw for yourself, was insanely talented. I respect Meryl Streep, but I’m sick of the same people being recycled over and over again. Let some new talent be discovered!

The broadway show was FANTASTIC. I really hope they managed to capture the spirit, it was one of those theater experiences that really just made you have hope for humanity.
