Helena Bonham Carter: Single ladies should buy a vibrator & a weighted blanket

Helena Bonham Carter

I’ve read a lot of lonely tweets recently, like 2020 was the year where a lot of single people hit pause on their dating lives in lockdown, but people are starting to think about what dating, sex and romance will look like in 2021. Some are optimistic, some are not. Helena Bonham Carter has some advice for single peeps: stay calm and buy a vibrator. HBC is the new spokesperson for the dating app Bumble in the UK. She honestly gave some good advice?

Helena Bonham Carter has some words of advice for all the single ladies during lockdown — get a vibrator. “The Crown” star offered her pearls of wisdom while appearing in a campaign for the dating app Bumble.

“Get a vibrator,” she said. “And a weighted blanket for hugs.” She added, “Also, do nothing. When the world is going crazy, when you are in shock from something, these are times to do nothing, be still. Forget progress. Just be. Aim for tea in the afternoon and nothing more ambitious.”

The Oscar nominee revealed that this year of lockdown has been “incredibly difficult” for her single pals.

“Women can often blame themselves but the fact is, it’s been an impossible year,” she said. “But impossibility is still the mother of creativity and there are still ways to meet people online.”

Bonham Carter, 54, has been dating writer Rye Dag Holmboe, 32, for two years. She had a long relationship with director Tim Burton with whom she shares son Billy, 17, and daughter Nell, 12. The two split in 2014.

I’m including her Bumble commercial below, it’s kind of cute. But they should have made an ad with HBC just saying all of the sh-t she says in this interview. And it’s true: men and women should give themselves a break this year. Date online, communicate online or over the phone, and figure it out that way for a few months before you meet in person, mask to mask. As for weighted blankets… I cannot! I get overheated very easily, but I get that so many people love the feel of a weighted blanket.

I’d bet that a mug with Helena and “Keep calm and buy a vibrator” on it would have huge success in UK, haha

      Internationally!

I would like to buy this mug. Please take my money. 😁

Weighted blankets are great! (Partner or not) The all over pressure is so relaxing. I also know at least one person on the Autism Spectrum who swears by theirs to help with sleep.

That is what I said to all my girlfriends, seriously.
Buy a vibrator, or whatever sextoy you want, at the beginning they thought I was crazy eventually they agreed with with me: it is the best thing you can do.
And not only if you are single: if you are in a long-distance relationship for example.
AND: I had the most fun drunk chat with my friends . You know it’s 2020 (and now 2021) everything is going south, everything is depressing and you need to talk to someone, but you are going to be even more depressed…I have the clear memory of me “Please let’s go back talking about vibrator” . We laughed a lot.

I bet somebody at Etsy is on it already! Lol

I’ve heard more people are buying body pillows to snuggle with in bed.

Love Helena. This is solid advice for these strange times.

Yes! And get a dog or cat if you can and if you don’t have one already. So comforting and rewarding to take care of a little pet and cuddle up with them.

I immediately think of Tiffany Haddish, who said this like 2 years ago. Applicable now more than ever.

I’m curious about weighted blankets. I too get v hot but I also have trouble sleeping. Might try it out . And every adult woman needs a vibrator! Essential goods for adulting!

I love that promo video and 100% wish it was a full length movie!

I bought a weighted blanket back when I was dealing with Lyme and had bad anxiety. I tend to bunch blankets up and when I’d move around when sleeping, it kind of hurt my back.

This blanket is awesome. 100% natural cotton It does not overheat you and it’s soft and huggable…not full of glass beads swooshing around.

I bought a vibrator that Toni Braxton was using on IG on her face. I think she called it a “face tickler” or something like that and was using it to tighten her skin, then everyone started joking with her that it was just a vibrator. It was sweet and hilarious, but I ended up buying that exact one in order to use on my face but then…pandemic lol! So yeah, not too much face tightening going on 😉

As for dating, last week, I went on the first date in years–I think since 2017–have been so busy working and then pandemic hit. I really like this person and they really like me, such a good match, but sadly, one of the places they took me had a whole group of people in a unventilatred studio. I was so torn to leave because he was introducing me to people he really cared about but then was also hurt that he put me in danger like that. It really killed my desire for him tbh. Couldn’t sleep that night, cancelled a client meeting the next day, and spent hours trying to find a way to get a covid test in my area. Planned it out, went today on my bike in the snow, waited only to be told that you have to be in a vehicle. Doctor sent me on a wild goose chase trying to get an appointment through health app. Made it home four hours later, tried to avoid people in building waiting without masks for the elevator, sprayed everything down, showered and got into bed. I’m so so tired and just…sad. Heading toward 50 and wondering if I’ll be alone forever (even though I do enjoy my own company), it’s hard to see beyond the pandemic. One thing that does bring some joy and hope is that Kamala and Doug married when she was 50 so…keep hope alive! 🙂

I have “vibrator shame”, and everytime I have/use one I throw it away. I’m afraid they are too strong & will ruin for the real thing.
