What are you people are talking about? Gatsby Girl was just stating an opinion. Think Twice is the one who went off like a rambling kook. I can’t stand people like this – when you disagree with them it makes you a “psycho”.

Gatsby girl, get off this site and save yourself from this negative ridiculousness. I don’t even agree with you (I do think Douche is a harmful word toward women) but these people are treating you like shit for no reason.

First off he’s disgusting, but we already knew that, so no suprise there and she’s a pathetic retard (and I mean that in the sense that her mental level must not surpass that of a 4th grader).

I could care less about either and I stopped caring about Jessica when it was found out what a slag she was by cheating on Nick Lachey with Bam Margera (really?) and that lead singer.

Elle – I realize that my interpretation isn’t a common one – that’s why I took the time to explain my perspective.

To be fair, though, I think “douche” has become such a lazy slang that most people (average people on the street, not the thoughtful, intelligent crowd here) don’t really even think to equate “douche” with cleaning out lady parts.

I mean, for better or for worse, it’s been inundated into our cultural lexicon, and I think it’s taken on a new meaning unto itself. (“That douche stole my parking spot!”) I’m not saying it’s right, I’m just saying it’s only going to be as offensive as you allow it to be.

As for the “N” word – I’m not about to touch that. Whereas “douchebag” has been popularized by fratboys playing grabass, the “n” word carries with it a very long and complex history of hate. “Douche” might range from obnoxious to mildly offensive in our pop culture, but there’s no mistaking the heaviness of the “n” word. It’s gross, and I’m not about to defend such a hateful word.

I really appreciate having this discussion and hearing what other intelligent, opinionated women have to say. I very much consider myself a proud feminist (who was raised by a very proud feminist), so I felt the need to throw in my two cents.

I see your perspective, and I appreciate it – I don’t feel the need to change anyone’s opinion. I’ve taken so many human sexuality courses in college that, for me, “douche” is equated with a laughably useless “tool”, and I just thought it might be worthwhile to take that into consideration.
