Oh, the Video Music Awards. Where bad fashion goes to die, where pop music goes to celebrate itself. I remember when the VMAs used to be edgy. I remember when they were a huge deal. Now it just seems so… corporate. Maybe it was always corporate, and I was just naïve back in the day. Note: CB is covering the Kanye West/Taylor Swift incident, in which Kanye made a rather spectacular ass out of himself. Anyhoodle, here’s a rundown of the nights biggest winners and losers, both from the actual awards, and from the fashion:
*Winner: Lady Gaga’s “Mistress Dark Feathers” ensemble. According to Us Weekly, it was “a black lace Jean Paul Gaultier dress with Dragon print silk underlay from Gaultier’s fall/winter ready to wear collection. She accessorized the look with a Keko Hainswheeler neck brace and Kiko jewelry.” Later, in the press room, Gaga was wearing some grey-silver puffy leotard that was not attractive.
*Loser: Gerard Butler. He’s my boyfriend and everything, but he had no reason to be there, and he looked extremely grumpy. He needs to stop going to every event, you know? I love him, and I love seeing pictures of him, but I can only think that he was there to hit on the young 20-year-old reality stars. Or poor Taylor Swift, who had a rough enough night without Gerard Butler trying to put the moves on her.
*Winners: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart looking like they could eat each other up in every damn picture. The two of them, plus Taylor “Third Wheel” Lautner, were there to introduce a clip from New Moon. Poor (hot) Taylor. I bet he even had to go in the car with Pattz and Kristen, and they probably couldn’t keep their hands off one another. Kristen wore a really pretty beige-gold party dress, and her hair was super-cute. Sparkles is a mouth-breather, and he looked smug. Like “Yeah, I’m finally nailing Bella” smug.
*Loser: Perez Hilton and his “demented gardener/proctologist” look. And for being Perez.
*Losers: Pink and Shakira wore the same black Balmain mini-dress. Maybe I could understand if the dress was really, really cute, but it’s totally plain. The real loser is the House of Balmain, who should have been better organized than to send the same dress out to two pop stars for the same event.
*Winner: Beyonce, for winning Video of the Year, for her cute red outfit, and for being so classy to Taylor Swift.
*Loser: Jennifer Lopez, for whatever the hell she was wearing. She’s trying too hard, and it’s painful.
*Losers: All of the dumb, interchangeable MTV reality stars who all looked like hot death.

What can I say? Meh. Any award show that celebrates Eminem’s video “We Made You” as the best anything is a pretty crappy award show. Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” rocks though. I’m going to have that song stuck in my head all day.

shakira wore it better. I used to think Pink was pretty in a really edgy way, but now…she’s very male looking with all the muscle.
Lady Gaga is always going to wear weird shit people, might as well get used to it now–she’s not going to change, its just going to get even more different as she goes along.
The thing that stood out the most to me though was how much I don’t like Solange bald. I get what you’re trying to do Solange, but its still ugly.
pink hurts me she is so hot – looking at her hurts me, both because i know she and i will never hookup and because i am pretty sure she’s strait.
What’s with JLo’s face? She constantly looks like she needs to take a dump. I know its her “come hither I’m sexy” face but it’s so unnatural. Blech.
Beyonce’s dress only looked good from very far away. Not one person in her entourage had the guts to tell her it made her look pregnant – and carrying very low? Gaga looked amazing in that black Gaultier dress and totally nailed her performance. I noticed a refreshing lack of lip syncing last night, with the obvious exception of Janet Jackson.

Lady gaga, needs to stop. Love her music, but she doesn’t have to go this silly-girl route. SHe actually has talent.
Pink & Shakira’s stylists will be fire for that major mistake. Pink rocked that dress though! Shakira looked to old to be wearing it and especially not with those boots.
Beyonce was just trying to save face. She knew she would feel the heat like Kanye if she didn’t do something to show she did not approve or put him up to that. Smart & Classy move on her part.
Call me naive but I think Beyonce giving Taylor her thank you speech was simply genuine. Not a calculated move, and not a stunt, just something from someone whose heart broke just like mine did when they saw Taylor Swift’s face after Kanye left the stage. Plus, Beyonce has won Grammys and been nominated for an Oscar.. I doubt the VMA speech was THAT important to her.
lady gaga is growing on me. she is not trying to be fashionable. for her it is performance art. i like the fact that she has actual talent.

Gaga ruined a probably rockin Gaultier black lace dress with the cheap-looking halloween garbage. And nobody looks good in space attire – she looks like the spawn of the Michelin man, and I’m a fan even.
Jennifer Schmoe-pez is looking stupider and stupider, trying to pose like a model with Skeletor. She must be blind if she thinks her posing act and the awful clothes look good. She’s waaay too old looking to be so ungraceful.
Beyonce’s song is really just more yelling the same phrase over and over to a drum machine, which doesn’t warrant awards, imho. ::yawn::
Pink’s acrobatics amaze and stun me. She is really incredible and nothing stops her.
And whoever that is wearing the striped champagne beige dress with the snow white clunky shoes – sheeze, go back to Mullet Hicksville where they like that shite. yuccch. And take Perez with you so the rednecks can remove him from our sight, in their own special way.
I like Lady Gaga’s music, but have been very whatever about her attention whore ways. However, last night was the first time I’ve ever heard that song or seen her perform and I thought she was fantastic. Instead of being turned off by the dramatics (as I usually am), I think it really made a statement.
I was very impressed that Taylor Swift was able to go ahead with her performance after that supreme jackass stole her moment.

I’m not sure who rocked the dress more Pink or Shakira – but the boots are awful. But they’re both such fabulous ladies, I’d say they got over the mortification pretty quickly.

Pink, Beyonce, and LadyGaga were doing some really impressive physical stuff while actually singing, and singing very well. I hope Mrs. Pratt was watching and it inspired her to just give up now.
No stylists will be getting the boot because of the Shakira/Pink double dress. Pink ordered her Balmain dress online shortly before the awards show, so no stylist would have been able to know that who may have worked with Shakira. I read that they laughed about what good taste they both had and they posed for pictures. It is no big deal to them.

am i the only one here who appreciates lady gaga’s ridiculous outfits? they’re not fashionable, and, okay, not exactly something you should be going out in in public, but you’ve got to admit some of them are pretty…aesthetically pleasing to the eye in a grotesque way.

I really would like to know where Lady GaGa gets her fashion ideas from? I think some outfits could be cute, but then some are disasters! I enjoy listening to her music but her outfits are just creepy! What she wore to the VMA’s really did creep me out though, especially the red outfit that covered her face!
