Is Duchess Meghan wearing clip-in extensions in the Sussexes’ Spotify clip?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are rarely photographed these days, which is why I recycle so many older photos of them in our royal coverage. As such, I’ve come to study Meghan’s styling from her Suits days to her fiancee days to her early royal days to her IDGAF post-royal days. I feel pretty confident saying that in her fiancee days and early royal days (2018/2019), Meghan really was trying to be less glam. She was trying to tamp down her “Hollywood” side, probably because she was legitimately concerned of being criticized for being too glamorous, too Hollywood, too American, too superficial. She really tried to subdue her beauty for those salty white folks. But not anymore.

The change really started happening in the fall of 2019, I think. That’s when Meghan began to wear more makeup, she started wearing her hair a bit differently, and her styling just seemed to go up a notch. That coincided with Meghan understanding that she would be criticized no matter what she did, so she might as well be glamorous. The Sussexes’ You Could Have Had a Bad Bitch farewell tour in March 2020 was the culmination of that too – Meghan brought the coordinated looks and costume changes and she really just showed them all that no matter what, she still had her sparkle.

Now that she gets to do whatever the hell she wants without some prissy octogenarians telling her that she’s “breaking protocol,” I suspect that Meghan is enjoying herself a lot more. She wore an expensive Oscar de la Renta dress for that one-minute appearance on the Spotify video, and the Daily Mail is obsessed with the idea that Meghan is wearing “extensions.”

The Duchess of Sussex ‘made a statement with big glamorous curls’ for her first appearance since quitting the royal family yesterday, a celebrity hairdresser has claimed. Prince Harry, 36, and Meghan Markle, 39, who last week officially split from the Firm, appeared in a 20-second video plugging their Archewell Audio podcast at a Spotify live stream event. In the clip, which was filmed at their $14 million Santa Barbara home, the expectant mother looked glamorous with waist-length locks styled into a bouncy blow-dry.

Celebrity hairstylist James Johnson told FEMAIL the stunning new look was likely achieved with the help of clip-in extensions, adding that the Duchess had had a ‘Hollywood makeover’. He explained: ‘I think a lot of us are feeling the need for a re-vamp, perhaps this is the image she’s always wanted to look like. Meghan is opted for a whole new cut, and it’s great to see her changing her style. She looks so glamorous with her Hollywood makeover. Curly and big is a good way to make a statement with a new look!’

Meanwhile the stylist suggested the Duchess likely achieved her glamorous new look with clip-in extensions, which could have added to the length and thickness of the royal’s hair. He explained: ‘This can be done using clip ins’ they’re a great way to add instant length and thickness when wanting to mix it up a hair style. Permanent extensions are much more maintenance. Clip ins can be great as it’s versatile to change up without any long term commitment.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I saw that people were mad about this piece and obviously comparing it to the Duchess of Cambridge’s lengthy history of wearing extensions, wigs and “fall” hairpieces and lying about it the entire time. That’s a legit comparison and we should talk about it, because Kate really has worn hairpieces and extensions off-and-on for many years. But… um, I kind of think Meghan flirts with extensions too? I definitely think she’s done extensions a few times when we’ve seen her in videos from California, and I think it’s more than possible that she achieved her “look” in the Spotify video with some extensions. That being said, I also think Meghan has been growing out her hair for the past year or so AND her prenatal vitamins probably make her hair thicker and lovelier. So I don’t know! Whatever is happening, Meghan is going for full-tilt glamour and I hope she makes all of those stuffy, salty people feel dull. I can’t wait for Kate to copy Meg’s look, complete with lush extensions too.

That is probably the nicest thing the Fail has ever written about the Duchess of Sussex.

    • Becks1 says:

They’re definitely lurking here because they referred to their mansion as being in Santa Barbara, not LA, lol.

      • Lorelei says:

        Lmao Becks!

I don’t even know why this is such a big deal when it comes to *anyone* — if I could afford to spend that kind of time and money in a salon, I’d probably get extensions too! If they’d make my hair look tons better, why not? That’s why so many of us get manicures, pedicures, waxing, etc.

But for some reason, extensions have been made into something Kate/Meghan/whoever should be ashamed of, and in Kate’s case, the Palace quickly issued a denial (which was and will always be insane imo).

I don’t get what the issue is…there are tons of people who can afford the time & money to get blowouts a few times a week (sadly I am not one of them), and it seems like extensions are just a step up, if that makes sense? Why are they considered more “shameful” than any other treatment people go to salons for?

In any case, Meghan looks gorgeous and you just know that every single person at the Fail is permanently green with envy : )

      • booboocita says:

@Lorelai — I think extensions get a bad rap because when they first came on the scene, they were of such poor quality that it was obvious that the wearer was using them. My sister started wearing extensions in the 1990s, and the ones she wears today are light years better — more lush, more easily concealed — than those ones.

I also think that a lot of people wear them without putting them in properly, so they look weird/funny. A story that always makes me laugh is Paris Hilton showing up for Saturday Night Live and the whole cast disliking her, not least because her extensions kept falling out and NBC’s hallways had long hanks of extensions scattered here and there. Oof.

      • Lorelei says:

@BooBooCita that’s a good point — I hadn’t thought about it that way, but you’re right. Although by the time it was speculated that Kate was wearing them, they were sooooo much better than the older ones, and by 2010-2011, weren’t most celebrities assumed to be wearing them? But I guess some of the stigma still might have existed (at least in the circles Kate ran in or tried to run in), enough to make Kate embarrassed about it.

And I didn’t know that about Paris Hilton but lmao!

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I also don’t give a rat’s behind if a woman wears extensions. Just don’t lie and tell me it’s a childhood scar, or pretend that having full lush hair is somehow evidence that Kate will be a good queen

    • Dinah says:

She’s not wearing extinctions, it’s her natural hair. It’s been that long before, even in her Suits days. Besides, her British hairstylist for more than 2.5 years in the UK, said so too; he said he never put or saw her wear extensions. All natural.

      • GraceB says:

I’m sure she has extensions in, whether her hair stylist says so or not. Let’s not forget that nobody has ever admitted that Kate wears them either but it doesn’t matter. I love clip-ins but I find them hard to colour match, no matter how hard I try. I guess Meghan and Kate are lucky because they both have enough money to have the best and probably have someone putting them in so they’re perfectly hidden too. I will stick to crying out of frustration in the mirror when they don’t go right, before pulling them all out and leaving the house looking worse than when I started.

      • tempest prognosticator says:

It’s definitely extensions, but who cares? I never saw the big deal in Kate wearing them and I sure don’t see the problem with Meghan wearing them.

  2. Becks1 says:

It seems like Meghan’s been letting her hair really grow over the past year, so maybe extensions, maybe not. She seems to have thick hair that holds a style, so I think these curls could be all hers.

what I think is funny is regarding Kate – she’s been going for straight, smooth looks lately in her zoom calls (that I think are absolutely about trying to imitate Meghan), so it will be funny to see if she goes back to big curls after this lol.

I do think its obvious, looking back at Meghan’s style as a royal, that she tried to “dim her light” and tried to play be “the rules” and do everything right, fashion-wise. I think that was really clear last March on her “you could have had a bad bitch” tour – she was FREE and it was so wonderful to see.

    • Sunday says:

I don’t think she independently decided to dress down in deference to other royals, I think she was specifically instructed by the courtiers that she had to stick to a particular (beige) palate so as not to overshadow the queen or Kate. Hence the knockout looks on the bad bitch tour – that’s how she wanted to dress the whole time but was prevented from doing so.

    • Amy Bee says:

I think the courtiers told her she was too glamourous and that she needed to tone down her style so that she didn’t overshadow the Queen and Kate. She tried but she still ended up looking better than the Queen and Kate.

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah regardless of who told her to tone down her style, she definitely tried to do so. And you’re right, she still overshadowed the queen and Kate, lol.

    • L84Tea says:

Extensions or not, she’s probably taking some primo prenatals and possibly collagen, which is all the rage now since it comes in powder form and can be added to smoothies and such. I know someone who uses a brand called “Tone it Up” that you can buy at Target and her hair is now huge and thick and shiney. My point being, there are so many vitamins and powders available to women these days that are easy to get that can give you thick, luxurious hair. Meghan has access to the best of the best of it. But who knows.

      • atorontogal says:

I came to say the same thing. When I was on prenatal vitamins I had the most glorious hair! sigh..this is no longer true since my baby is 31 😒

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        L84tea
Im a huge fan of a brand called Vitamins. I use the shampoo and conditioner, but once a week just the shampoo and a hair mask for 2 hours. My hair has never been thicker.

And if you can stand the taste all your vitamins can be delivered in a ground vegetable powder called Athletic Greens. Proven to be the best 15 times in the last 10 years.

I think Meghan is also naturally blessed with great hair. So, any product only improves.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

True! I used Viviscal for 12-18 months, and man! Did my hair ever grow. And I second the prenatal vitamin influence, and commented the same below.

      • Christina says:

She can buy whatever she wants to look better, but her hair looks real to me. My mom, my kid, and I have hair like that: big, fluffy, wavy/curly hair that blows out straight. Some people do have really thick, long hair. We feel so fortunate. My mom is almost 80, and her hair is damn glorious and shiny.

Hair extensions are wonderful. They help keep damage down for people who have to do a lot of styling, and the clip ins have changed the game for so many people. The good ones aren’t cheap.

    • Nic919 says:

Kate’s current style basically confirms that she wears extensions because when she doesn’t it’s flatter and less thick. She also wears them poorly because you end up seeing the bump in the top back part of her head.

While there is nothing wrong with wearing extensions, I don’t think Meghan has them because she has been growing her hair long for over a year now and it simply looks to be more curled and styled.

      • Likeyoucare says:

Everyone can archive this look by pulling all your hair from the back to the front. Look good infront but funny from the back.
She used to be an actress she know all the tricks.
But everyone who is using the hairstylist that been paid by the dailymail should think twice before booking him. That person is not really bright.

      • Ann says:

My sister-in-law has very thin, straight hair that won’t curl and doesn’t respond to product (maybe it would to collagen, idk) so she has extensions. They’re very subtle and well done, and it looks good. Like you said, nothing wrong with extensions. My hair is pretty thick and it’s curly so it’s not something I would bother with, but I get why others do, even if just to change their look. I don’t have the patience for hair procedures I don’t need. I’m too fidgety.

    • Lorelei says:

@Becks I totally agree with you. I’m sure the courtiers played a part, as Amy Bee said, but I believe that Meghan herself genuinely did try, for a long time, to do anything and everything that she could to do to fit in more, or to do what she thought she was “supposed” to do for these people, and imo, it never looked quite right when she was in full royal mode because it just wasn’t her.

She’s so beautiful and glamorous and I adore her street style and her Suits style, but when she tried to go full-on conservatively royal for some of the events she had to attend, it almost looked like she was wearing a Halloween costume. Don’t get me wrong, she still looked better than me on my best day! But as soon as we saw that shot of her at the shelter in Vancouver with her hair down, wearing one of the sweaters from her Suits wardrobe, it was like, “She’s back!” and I was so excited to know we finally had the old Meghan back again. No more having to wear those ridiculous (yet apparently mandatory?) fascinators, lol.

That few days last March when she came back to the UK clearly all out of f*cks and looking more beautiful than ever was absolutely glorious. I’ll never stop swooning over that turquoise dress.

      • Babz says:

She knew exactly what she wanted to project on that Farewell Tour, and did she ever!! For me, it was the green dress and hat that rocketed her into the stratosphere! She was so glamorous, so confident, and so serene, and she knew she looked good. Kate’s rude behavior couldn’t even touch her. As far as her royal looks go, that was my all-time favorite. And she looks gorgeous in emerald green!

    • Aphra says:

That would be funny, Becks, to see Kate copy Meg yet again! “Bring me my sausage curls!!”

    • Lemons says:

She’s obviously wearing extensions. Her hair has never been that full. That’s fine, though! I hope we all can admit that our hair needs a little help to look like this. I don’t think she wears extensions all the time, but to get this level of pageant thickness, you need a hairpiece.

So ladies, don’t worry if you can’t get Meghan and Kate’s hair…it’s not all theirs.

      • Kkat says:

No some of us just have super thick hair and a lot of it.
I have to get my hair thinned when I get it cut or I look like a beauty contestant.
        My sister’s are the same

  3. Julie says:

Why does this matter? I always assume that women with straight hair are wearing pieces when their hair appears full. Yes, that’s my curly hair privilege talking but whatever. Nobody cares if you grew it or bought it.

    • Ash says:

Yeah, I actually couldn’t care less if Kate OR Meghan wear hair extensions and have always assumed both do? Surely it’s fairly standard these days? The comments about wiglets etc. on this site have always struck me as odd given how normal it is now to wear things like extensions.

(And as a perpetually straight-haired, volume-deficient woman myself – I’d totally do it too if I could be bothered/had the budget!)

      • Rose says:

Of course she’s wearing extensions.Who cares?

      • Becks1 says:

The wiglet comments are for two reasons IMO – that her wiglet is SUPER obvious once you notice it, and that Kate’s hair is really the only thing she has going for her. It’s the one thing for which she is consistently praised. When their engagement was announced, getting hair to look like hers was a BIG deal in a lot of circles. So the palace hopes people dont realize that she has extensions, because if she does, then she isnt just an empty vessel with bouncy thick hair, she’s just an empty vessel.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Agree with Rose. She probably is wearing hair extensions and who cares as almost all people in the spotlight do as such to enhance their appearance. Keen Trainbridge, Jane Fonda, JLo and Kate Moss come to mind as people who wear hair extensions as often as they wear make-up and jewelry.

      • Dee says:

There was also the whole palace statement that Kate had a scar that was exactly the shape of a plastic clip for hair extensions. Said scar was from a mysterious childhood accident no one seems to remember. How dare anyone pretend that Kate’s pretend hair and wiglets were anything but natural, flowing locks? I’m sure her shampoo made from unicorn tears is the reason her hair cuts grow out several inches by the next month. This issue was considered important enough for a statement from the palace, yet all the terrible things said about Meghan go without rebuttal. Go figure.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

To add to Becks1 Comment – she and the palace (KP) actually sent out a press release about it before the wedding when it was speculated she was wearing extension. If she owned it no one would care – but she wants us to think her hair is so naturally thick and wavy.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate cared enough to make the first press release she ever sent from her office to be a denial of wearing extensions. So it’s the lie that is the issue. Had she said nothing it wouldn’t be a thing.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

No body cared and f Kate wore extensions until KP released a statement that she never wears extensions. She just had 6 hour long appointments with an extension specialist and did the bump with the palm to help the tug and itch. And then there was the infamous scar that came and went from a surgery that was never elaborated on and made no sense to even mention.

Meg’s hair looks naturally thick. Pulled forward and glowing from all those amazing pregnancy hormones. I’m sure she takes supplements too.

      • Lorelei says:

@Nic it is absolutely ridiculous to me, to this day, that the Palace issued an official statement about Kate’s lack of extensions. Whether she was wearing them or not, all it did was call so much more attention to the issue and had people who usually wouldn’t have paid any attention whatsoever to her scrutinizing the photos.

The sad thing is, I think Kate always had beautiful hair, even back in the earlier girlfriend days when she definitely didn’t have extensions. She really didn’t need them, especially since she’s clearly so self-conscious about it, enough so to have the Palace make a clarification. But as Becks said, right after the engagement announcement, her hair was a huge thing, talked about a lot and with women all over taking her photo into salons, wanting to look like her. So maybe she felt pressure to keep it up after that? Who knows.

But of course the critical article is written about Meghan, not Kate. Rinse and repeat.

ETA: @WigletWatcher (appropriate name for today, lol) that’s a really good point— for video calls like this, it doesn’t matter what her hair looks like in the back, so she could definitely just be pulling it all forward to give it that fullness.
It’s different when they’re in-person at engagements, seen and photographed from all angles, but in this case, they can absolutely get away with it. My hair can also look great from the front if I do that, but then the back is a trainwreck.

      • Nic919 says:

The media tried to make a thing of Kate’s hair which is regular white girl hair with access to a stylist. No woman has bad hair when she has a decent hair dresser on hand.

      • Wiglet Watcher says:

        Lorelie
Way way back we had a Wiglet watch here with a wiglet wagon, tin foil tiaras and tea time. Credit to LAK for educating everyone on the wiglet and to quote her, “ once it is see it cannot be unseen.”

Nota is the only name I remember from those early days.

    • Dandun says:

i have naturally very straight hair but its really thick and gets very thick while pregnant.

100% agree with your “nobody cares if you grew it or bought it” i think it was Amy Winehouse who was asked was it her own hair and she replied yes, i bought it myself or something along those lines

      • Snuffles says:

I remember an old comedy skit from the 90s where a woman is like “Yes, it’s my hair! I bought it and got the receipt!”

    • MissMarierose says:

Agreed. If I thought my super-fine hair would hold an extension, I would absolutely buy and wear them.

  4. MsIam says:

It could be or it could be one of those halo extensions. Regardless, she’s got more hair than I’ve ever had in my life and I’m a teensy bit jealous, lol. She looks beautiful.

  5. Escondista says:

I wear clip-ins sometimes and, as a mom, the thought of throwing on a pretty wig in the AM sounds really nice sometimes.

  6. Aurora says:

I don’t think Meghan has extensions. Her hair has been growing steadily the past year or so. Plus she’s had 3 pregnancies. Her stylist during her Royal tenure said he never used extensions.

In her youth she had very long, thick curly hair that when straightened likely would have been quite long.

    • Myra says:

I don’t believe she generally wears extensions, only because she has the same hair type as my mom. I remember a white lady once commenting about my wig and I’ve never worn one in my life. POC come with different hair types, lengths and what not. Maybe she is wearing some clip-on here, but I think it’s more likely the pregnancy.

      • Snuffles says:

Same! I have similar hair to Meghan as well. My hair was long and often wildly out of control. I remember in junior high boys would walk behind me singing “Chaka Kahn! Chaka, Chaka, Chaka Kahn!” But the girls refused to believe it was my real hair. They once had a complete stranger walk up to me, RUN HER FINGERS THROUGH MY HAIR saying “Damn, that’s a tight weave!” Only to pull back in shock shrieking “Oh my God! It’s REAL!!” before running off.

      • Chicken Tetrazzini! says:

Snuffles your hair sounds amazing and B) why do people touch other people’s hair??? It’s so weird and invasive and boundaries with strangers shouldn’t have to be explained?

      • Myra says:

I’m sorry you went through that @Snuffles, but your hair sounds amazing. I used to be envious of my mom’s hair. I called it the barbie hair.

      • Tiffany :) says:

That’s terrible, Snuffles! People can be so awful.

When i was working at grocery store when I was a teen, an elderly man snuck up on me and put his hands into my hair. When I recoiled in horror, he said “Sorry, I just had to see what it felt like.” I felt so dirty.

I don’t know if you’ve ever heard Gaga’s song, “Hair”, but this line makes me tear up:
“I’ve had enough, this is my prayer
That I’ll die living just as free as my hair”

My hair and I have been through so much together, and sometimes my curls seem like an act of rebellion. Hugs to you.

    • Lorelei says:

@Snuffles, I’m so sorry, people are absolutely disgusting. I cannot imagine saying something like that to someone or freaking TOUCHING another person’s hair without permission. It seems like so many people are cruel assholes just for the fun of it. I’m sure your hair is beautiful.

      • Rapunzel says:

Snuffles- i get asked on the regular if my hair is a wig. I’m just a white lady with thick hair. It’s annoying. I don’t even do a thing to my hair but brush it.

Frankly, I think folks who “know” a person is wearing a wig or extensions are ridiculous- yes, I said it. You are probably wrong half the time.

And Daily Fail, those are not “big glamorous curls” Meg is wearing.

      • Tiffany :) says:

“I think folks who “know” a person is wearing a wig or extensions are ridiculous-”

        YES, this!

  7. Sunday says:

I don’t think so. Not that there’s anything wrong with extensions, but my hair is very similar to Meghan’s in coarseness, thickness, and length, and it can get loooong. Add prenatal vitamins to the mix and yea, it grows, really quickly. This style obviously upped the volume, but again that’s just a styling thing, no extensions necessary. (Also, it’s not really waist-length, I mean she’s sitting down.)

  8. lucylee says:

oh well, Kate is gonna say she wore them first.

  9. Mimi says:

Every picture we’ve seen of Meghan from before she got famous shows her with a headful of thick curly hair. I definitely believe she augments at times with clips ons/extensions but it’s at least believable that most of it is hers. Every picture of Kate prior to her engagement announcement shows her with the same limp thin hair that Pippa and Carole Middleton share so the idea that she now has this naturally thick hair strains credulity. No one would really care about Kate wearing her wiglets except she lies about it.

  10. Where'sMyTiara says:

I’m old enough to remember when palaces issued protective statements, clapping back on stories of Certain Royals wearing extensions.

But The Fail has decided it’s 2014 again, apparently. Sounds about white.

Also Kate: B*tch, please. We could all see the bonds plain as day. You could see them from space.

  11. Soupie says:

It’s perfectly fine if she wants to wear extensions. They look great. And they are extensions, because her newer hair at the top is darker while the older hair kor extensions) at the bottom is lighter. Her situation is the reverse, but who cares?? It’s nobody’s damn business. She can do what she wants and that goes for the Duchess of Cambridge as well. If a woman wants to do something to her hair, let her do it. I don’t care who it is. I do think it’s disingenuous to lie about it though.

    • Where'sMyTiara says:

Where and when did Meghan make any statement about her own hair? She ain’t lying, she’s never spoken about it.

The only one who lied about wearing extensions was Kate & the palaces.

      • Soupie says:

        @WheresMyTiara
I did not state that Megan made a statement about whether or not she wears extensions. My statement was an implication that the Duchess of Cambridge denies wiglets and extensions. I could have stated that more clearly.

My OPINION is that Meghan is wearing extensions in these photos and it’s just FINE with me.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

Ah, I understand now. Agreeing with you, Soupie!

I don’t care who wears the wiglets either; the only thing that was crappy was that the palaces put out statements lying about it for Kate. I mean anyone who’s ever had them in or been around someone who has, knows full well what they look like.
It’s not a mystery beauty treatment only royals have access to!

It’s the Cambridges’ first instinct to lie about everything in the most obvious way possible, that sours the public on them, and makes people side eye them as to whether they’re truly worthy of their future (throne) inheritance.
That’s the real problem, not who is wearing extensions.

    • Sandra says:

Natural hair is lighter at the ends than at the scalp. Whether it is colored or not. The longer the hair the lighter the ends. Hair gradually lightens from the sun, water, environment. I’m not saying she doesn’t have extensions, but your “proof” isn’t proof she does.

      • Gail Hirst says:

not to be argumentative, @Sandra, but my hair is very light at the top, in some lights virtually silver, then underneath and on my ends, it’s surprisingly dark…almost brown – and I haven’t streaked or coloured my hair in any way for 18 months (October 2019, when I went to visit my family in England). Most heads grow hair about 6 inches per year (my hairdresser says), and my hair is about 10 inches long overall, so unless you are speaking specifically about black hair (of which I have no experience) you may not be 100% accurate ~

      • Tiffany :) says:

Sandra, I think you are correct. I haven’t had a hair cut in over a year, and I have very long hair that is significantly lighter at the bottom than the top.

    • Nic919 says:

Meghan has never commented on whether or not she wears extensions. It’s Kate who sent an official press release to deny using them. There is only one duchess who lies.

  12. S808 says:

I don’t think so but if she is she got a good brand cause I can’t tell. I thought her hair looked thicker cause she’s pregnant? It looks like it did when she was pregnant with Archie.

  13. Snuffles says:

It could be either. I haven’t gotten a haircut in over a year and my hair is the longest it has ever been since college. So I can believe that most of that is Meghan’s hair. She has had thick, curly long hair since her childhood.

But, hey, if she threw in some clip ins to add some volume, big deal.

But in regards to her new looks. Guuuuuurrrrrrlll! I can’t WAIT until she’s able to make full on public appearances again and walk the red carpet. Because I DO think she purposely muted her style to fit in.

When she rolled up in the UK last March wearing all of those luscious bright colors, that was her saying she was free to be herself.

I can’t wait to see what new looks she puts forward from here on out.

    • Lorelei says:

@Snuffles, same — there are a million reasons why I want this to be over with so we can, hopefully, go back to some sort of normalcy, but one of them is definitely to see Meghan out there rocking it!

  14. Phoenix says:

I think she doesn’t have extensions, but I might be wrong.
I think she has been letting her hair grow you know…may be because she is free now and she has fun making the haters even more jealous lol
I didn’t know that Kate was also using extensions, but I want to see her try copying that hairstyle from Meghan!

  15. Cecilia says:

The obsession with meghan’s hair has got to stop. If you look at her teenage pics you can see she’s always had long thick hair. Then again, if she wants to wear extensions she should and she can. She certainly isn’t the first woman to wear them and defo won’t be the last. This obsession and discussion over her hair is racist end off.

    • sara says:

Some people here are also obsessed with kates hair. And just women’s hair in general. It’s really weird…….

      • BayTampaBay says:

This is a gossip site so if we want to talk about hair let’s talk about hair, However, we have to talk about all hair to be fair: Kate’s, Meghan’s, Anne’s, Cardi B’s, Dolly’s, Jane Fonda’s and my hair!

We need a separate thread to discuss Anne’s hair! LOL!

      • Becks1 says:

@Bay Anne’s hair hasnt changed in 40 years lol, there’s not a lot to discuss!

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Becks1 – Maybe if we talk loud enough about Anne’s hair she will hear us and make a change! LOL!.

I think that Anne’s just hair needs several rounds of a good deep under-the-dryer conditioner as her hair is naturally frizzy. I was told about the frizzy hair from a UK friend who has meet/seen her in person on three occasions over the last 10 years.

      • L84Tea says:

        @BTB, heck, let’s talk about Rose’s hair!

    • Edna says:

The obsession with everything Meghan needs to stop. This is ridiculous and scary how obsessed the BM is with her. Dozens of articles about mindless stuff. And then people complain about the Sussexes and why don’t they go away…thought they wanted privacy. Yet it’s the media that keeps writing and talking about them, especially her. Focus on the Magnificent 7 for goodness sakes.

  16. Watson says:

On Twitter the psychos are obsessed over whether her “real” hair is more of a tight curl and see her straightening or using extensions as another sign of her in-authenticity. I find it super off putting. This hyper examination over what she’s doing with her hair baffles me. If she uses extensions or not it doesn’t matter cause freedom looks good on this woman and clearly that is the beauty take away none of these trolls understand,

    • Drun says:

I so tire of this claim. How you wear your hair is your choice. It has nothing to do with your “authenticity “.

    • LaraK says:

      Yes! This!
I hate it when people start policing others’ style choice. If it’s offensive, fine police away. If it’s not, then mind your own business.

  17. Amy Bee says:

Why didn’t the Daily Mail just ask Meghan’s hairstylist in London about her hair instead of going to someone who has never done her hair and obvious has never done black hair? Meghan’s hair has been like this for over a year and in pictures of her as a teenager she has very long thick and curly hair. It’s obvious to me that she stopped chemically straightening her hair after she moved to London and she most likely grew out natural hair when she was pregnant.

  18. Midge says:

The first thing I see in these photos is her skin – stunning.

  19. Merricat says:

She’s pregnant; it makes your hair thicker. Sigh.

    • Xoxo says:

It’s shocking that people can’t believe a woman who has had 3 pregnancies in the last 2 years would have this much hair. With all the pregnancy hormones, prenatal vitamins and collagen Meghan must have taken, it’s not far-fetched to believe this is all her hair.

  20. LaraK says:

    And ???

Is she not allowed to wear extensions? Do they somehow make her less beautiful? I hate this type of speculation – the Fail makes it sound like Meghan did bad! When it’s just a styling choice.

    • L4frimaire says:

It seems like hair extensions are fairly common now and worn by practically everyone on tv. You see gym shots of JLo with her ponytail, then her appearances with this long thick hair. It just styling. They look really good. Meghan has naturally thick curly hair but few women have Botticelli tresses. It’s not a big deal if she does use extensions to enhance it.

  21. Jais says:

The thing is either way she looks gorgeous and her hair looks gorgeous. So gorgeous that even haters prob want to look like her. So this article is funny bc it’s like shade how dare she want to look glamorous but also and here’s how you can look that way too. The stylist almost sounds like he has stock in clip on extensions. Are there any product links in this article?
But feels weird that the DM wouldn’t do a similar article bout Kate, like product links to clothes are okay but no association with hair extensions. Gee.

  22. Case says:

Maybe, maybe not – a lot of us haven’t gotten haircuts in a year, lol! I know my hair is much longer than my usual bob-length hairstyle. And I feel like she had especially gorgeous hair when she was pregnant with Archie, right?

  23. Yoyo says:

I want to talk about “Hostage” Harry, he is looking fine in captivity, even he is sporting a pregnancy glow.
Prenatal vitamins and lack of Brazilian straightening, Meghan hair with the straightener don’t hold tight curls.

  24. Cerise says:

She is pregnant so most likely she has stopped chemically straigtening her hair.
It looks thick because she hasn’t blown dried it bone straight before putting curls in it.

She must have stopped last year sometime before the miscarriage.

  25. Harla says:

I find these conversations so interesting because I never, ever think about someone wearing hair pieces or extensions. The only time that I might notice it is wigs that are very obviously wigs. I do notice the beautiful hair or great style but just don’t think much of how it was achieved.

  26. Hello Kitty says:

women including myself change up their hair based on their mood, convenience, life style etc. how annoying that this woman growing her hair out a little and using a bigger curling iron barrel is newsworthy. Sigh.

  27. Snuffles says:

    @chickentetrazini

🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ It’s a big issue in the black community. Quite often white people just walk up to a black person and start touching their hair without permission.

In my case the incident described was a fellow black girl. Throughout junior high and high school I had huge Chaka Kahn type hair and I could hear the black girls constantly whispering behind my back swearing it wasn’t real until one of them got bold and decided to check for herself.

The only other time that happened was when I lived in Korea and these 2 Korean women were right behind me clearly having an intense discussion about my hair and they too just reached out and touched it. I turned around and was like “Do you need something!?” They giggled, apologized and scurried away.

I guess it’s amazing I never had a white person do it to me. Some definitely inquired about my hair but they never tried to touch it.

I personally never got angry about it like many rightfully do. I was usually just weirded out and bemused.

    • Liz version 700 says:

I am not black but I have very curly hair and people would do this to me too! It was so weird! Then they would immediately suggest I cut my hair. Nope my hair my choice! Same with Meghan, if there is extensions it is her business her right!

  28. Amelie says:

I don’t think Meghan currently has any extensions. Her hair has looked like this since they moved to California last year, long, thick, and curly. Going back to pictures of her when her hair is a bit shorter (she’s always favored having long hair), she always has full-bodied, thick hair. From her baby and teen photos before she started relaxing her hair, you can see her natural hair is thick, textured, and very curly. She doesn’t need extensions, she’s got enough as it is. I have similar hair to Meghan in its relaxed form, it is very thick and wavy and has a lot of body. I’ve been growing it out in quarantine and it’s about similar length to Meghan (I did get a haircut recently to clear out split ends as it had been 2 years since I had cut my hair). Just because someone has thick, wavy, full hair doesn’t mean they are wearing extensions. For some of us, it’s all natural.

You’d think everyone at the Daily Mail had limp, stick straight hair for them to publish an article like this.

  29. Giddy says:

Her hair is glorious and it’s always fun to see how she styles it. But my favorite part of this is Kaiser reminding us of the wonderful You Could’ve Had A Bad Bitch tour name. That says it all. She was just too fabulous for them!

  30. Sara says:

My beautiful daughter is biracial and has amazing hair much like the Duchess. When she gets it blown out women always assume its a wig or a pieve but it most definitely isn’t. Also, pregnancy does amazing things to a woman’s hair.

  31. EllieK says:

It’s 2021, let them wear their hair extensions in peace. I wear them, not a big deal.

  32. Lunasf17 says:

I think it’s super common for celebs to use extensions, especially if they have longer hair. I do think they are extensions and they look good. If she likes them then why not wear them? Rarely is is just good genes as many like to claim. Nothing wrong with having some extra hair that you didn’t grow!

  33. lili says:

What’s wrong with extensions anyway? I don’t even seen this as criticism in itself (haven’t read the full article). I use them for many occasions so I’m whatever. I thought everyone famous wears them and it’s a fact. And a huge part of “normal” people like me.
Honestly I get why she toned it down in the beginning, “played it safe” and I loved her “messy” updoes (buns). They made her face so flattering! But now off the to races, whatever you prefer, Meghan!

  34. Reece says:

I think it’s natural and pushed up to the front.
The only thing I want to know is how to do I get her hair without being pregnant.

As for the article, I agree with Kaiser and everyone else here. (not much to add really) She was toning down herself to fit in with them and now she doesn’t have to. Shine on Meghan!

  35. NotSoSocialButterfly says:

Oh, ffs. She’s probably been on prenatal vitamins for the better part of a year; that and pregnancy itself can spur massive growth of lovely locks.

    • Freddy says:

and she’s biracial, and her hair is naturally thick with curls/waves, so attach those factors to prenatal vitamins, and of course girlfriend’s hair is bouncing and behaving!

  36. Sid says:

Possible, but I doubt it mainly because Meghan’s own hair is thick, dense, and curly and combined with no shedding during pregnancy and likely sticking to blowouts as opposed to whatever treatments she does to keep it straight, her hair pretty much looks like what I would expect it to look like. As someone with a big head full of natural textured hair, on the few occasions I straighten I have been asked what kind of weave I have.

  37. Jen says:

Have y’all seen the crazy stuff they are saying about her pregnancy? That she has a surrogate? And of course Harry is miserable and it’s her fault. These people are 🦇🤪

    • MsIam says:

They say, they say….who cares? If the Sussexes were using a surrogate I believe they wouldn’t hide it, especially with her recently having had a miscarriage. There is no crime or shame in that, only in the twisted minds of the haters. And honestly one look at Harry’s face in that pregnancy announcement photo tells you all you need to know about his feelings.

  38. Tanya says:

I don’t care if they’re extensions or not, but my hair always gets like this during my pregnancies. And then it falls out dramatically after I give birth.

  39. Annalise says:

It will NEVER fail to burn my ass every time one of these sleazy tabloids mentions the cost of H&M’s house. Especially since it’s not like these are article about California real estate.
The RF literally have solid gold pianos, live in castles the size of Rhode Island, have butlers, maids, cooks, drivers (and they have all that even when reduced to a “skeleton staff”)……and yet these garbage news sources always feel the need to remind the world that H&M live in the 29th biggest house in Montecito.

    • L4frimaire says:

I watch the show Million Dollar Listing LA. Houses on that show list anywhere from $4 -$40 million, some way bigger than H&Ms Montecito place. The agents are a bit extra with way too much drama, but it’s a fun glimpse into homes I can never afford. The Sussexes place was a very good deal.

  40. Catherine says:

I get mad about the hair stories because it’s an example of the way that the tabloids have policed Meghan’s appearance. There is also a larger issue that women of color have their appearance policed in ways that white women don’t. The whole tone of the article was oh look how she’s gone Hollywood. It’s a way the tabloids have of demeaning her. In general, I don’t care about what she or any woman does with their hair. I am of the opinion if it’s on your head it’s yours. And if it looks good, makes you feel good then do what you want. I also don’t think it wrong to talk about hair in general. I just have a problem with the tabloids coded, biased way of discussing it.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      Great points.

    • Ever says:

Catherine: I was waiting for someone to say this and if they didn’t I was going to. The article is definitely coded and biased. It sits poorly with me that the article is focused on discussion of a black womans hair and the price of her home. Definitely can and will encourage gross commentary.

      She looks phenomenal, regardless.

  41. LRob says:

I never cared if she was wearing extensions or not; I just always thought the controversy over this was nonsense. She was a ACTRESS on a hit TV show. That hair and makeup room must have been full of hair extensions, eyelashes, temporary and permanent hair colors, curlers, straighteners and every which combination of accessories they all wanted to get the desired look of the day. Meghan and Serena have always said they bonded over girly things and both love fashion and style statements. So, Meghan has thick naturally curly hair. I believe she keeps it at various lengths & wouldn’t hesitate to use extensions if she felt like it. Re her wardrobe, it may have been more conservative but I think she does prefer monochromatic styling with neutrals, white and black, Her style inspiration was Carolyn Besette, who preferred clean, pared down neutrals. Meghan knows how to make a splash tho, so we got the glorious color of the bad bitch tour.

  42. NJ says:

I don’t know if she wears extensions or not her hair has been had some length for a very long time now and I seriously doubt with all that wealth Meghan would wear some cheap clip on hair over higher quality extensions.
