Tom Holland: ‘I look back at the times I was in love & they’re the happiest of my life’

Tom Holland has a couple of dramatic films coming out during the pandemic. The Devil All the Time got decent critical response, but I can barely watch anything that isn’t a comedy these days, so I passed. His latest is the Russo Brothers film, Cherry, that deals with wartime PTSD and addiction. It comes out next month. Tom dropped 28 pounds for the role, so I guess he’s hoping for some award consideration. As is a part of most complicated humans lives, in addition to his struggles and bad decisions, Tom’s character is falling in love for the first time. When last we left Tom’s real love-life, he was golfing with actress Nadia Parkes, to whom he’d been introduced by Sophie Turner. In August, the pair were supposedly shacking up together in quarantinial bliss. But going by his interview with Zuri Hall on Access Hollywood, Tom may still be waiting for The One.

On if he’s ready to settle down
Of course I would do. I love romance and I look back at the times when I was in love and they’re the happiest of my life. I’m in no rush, I am 24. But if it happens it happens.

On the biggest way Spider-Man changed his life
I’ve been very lucky that being Spider-Man has allowed me to be on this platform in which I can help people. I run a charity with my family called The Brothers’ Trust and we’re always trying to figure out new and exciting ways to not only entertain people but raise money for people that really need it. The biggest thing that Spider-Man has done for my life is it’s given me the opportunity to help others.

I know I am on the record as a Tom fan, but that’s a great response to the settling down question. I don’t think anyone should ever be in a rush, but definitely not someone in their early 20s. I love that he’s able to say he’s perfectly content being single without disrespecting any relationship he’s already had. I wish I could come up with answers that smooth off the cuff. (The old stodgy in me thinks how many times could a 24-year-old have been in love?) His Spider-Man answer is pretty conscientious too. I’d probably have answered in relation to my career, but Tom spoke about how it helped position him globally and that’s nice. It’s also not surprising, given his father’s career and Tom’s exposure to the industry. Still, it’s nice to hear a young man come across so grounded.

The other story about Tom going around right now is that he’s doing all these interviews pantsless. Tom’s not only talking about it, he’s showing off his “teenage” legs while on air. Tom is, of course, currently in Atlanta filming the third Spider-Man movie with his buddies Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. Tuesday, the night before the Movie’s official name was released, the punks got on Instagram and began trolling their fans by “revealing” the film’s name:

Alas, Home Slice should have been real, but it’s not. The actual Spider-Man 3 name was revealed yesterday:

I like him. His Lip Sync Battle dance was stupendous.

    • Abby says:

Agreed–he is the FOREVER winner of Lip Sync Battle. I’d never seen him in anything before that but it made me a fan!

      • Snuffles says:

It’s all the more amazing because if you watch Zendaya’s performance, she was AMAZING. But Tom rolled out there in drag, COMPLETELY committed to it and by the end was literally singing and dancing in the rain and doing dangerous flips and acrobatic moves on a wet stage. GAME. OVER.

    • Kate says:

I lose at least an hour a month watching that lip synch battle! The comments are always current even though it was a couple years ago.

    • Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Okay I had no idea. Where was I when he did Umbrella?? I’ve already watched it too many times. That was AHMAYYYZING. I normally hate crap like that (which is why I obviously missed it), but I’m in awe. It reminded me when my middle son got on stage in front of our town with four of his wrestling teammates and danced to Single Ladies. When he got out in front and did his gyrations, snaps, etc., the crowd erupted and stood for the rest of the song. It was hysterical and perfect even though it made me blush lmao. I’m all in for Tom Holland lol.

      • Kate says:

Right?! Welcome to the club. You’ll now think of it everytime you hear the song “Umbrella.” Or see an umbrella. Or hear the word umbrella. Then you will feel compelled to watch that video again (a minimum of 5 times in a row).

  2. Snuffles says:

But did he and Zendaya ever date!? I know they swear they are just friends but Zendaya always lies through her teeth about her relationships.

On another note, I want to see Tom dance more. He’s great at it and his Umbrella performance on Lip Sync Battle is LEGENDARY.

    • Julie says:

If they didn’t date, I bet you he at least had a crush on her at some point. I know there’s a lot of wishful shipping of co-stars but he really does bring up her name at the most surprising moments. Maybe in 10/20 years they’ll casually drop that nugget in an interview like Jennifer Lawrence did with Liam Hemsworth. Or Carrey Fisher with Harrison Ford.

    • mimic says:

Oh, they DEFINITELY were dating for nearly three years, until 2019, when they miraculously were both seen out with other people within two months, after never having been seen with other partners during the previous three years. Some–me included–suspect they are dating again. They are both very private, Z esp. But I would wager a hefty chunk that they’re back on.

  3. Sally says:

I like him on screen and I respect his professionalism, but he’s also the crown jewel of the Disney/Marvel marketing machinery and it leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. All the “leaks”, all the coached answers and games, it’s all so insincere.

    • Darla says:

I read about how he called Sony execs (and I think Marvel too) while drunk in a bar, and cried about Spiderman not being in the MCU anymore. And all the old men found it so endearing and they made a deal so he could be in the MCU again. That did leave me a bit bitter because I know what would have happened if say, Zendaya or Olsen did that.

At least one of them would have said, I’ll send a car come to my hotel and we’ll talk about it, and all of them would have considered her unserious and her career would have been damaged.

But it’s very difficult to dislike him and I don’t. I just resent the system.

      • Snuffles says:

Well, I’m not going to hold any of that against Tom. Because the Spider-Man property was in a unique position and was essentially only on loan to Marvel for a limited number of movies. And since Tom IS the current Spider-Man, he had a LOT to lose. Elizabeth Olsen was never in that position and Zendaya only plays a small part in the franchise and would have been just fine regardless.

      • LP says:

Actually no, Bob Iger called him unprompted when Tom Holland was at the pub with his family and had had a few pints, and you don’t refuse to pick up when Bob Iger calls! So he was a little tipsy and apparently did get emotional on the phone about how much the part meant to him, but you’re making it sound really bad. Of course Marvel exaggerates hw many spoilers Tom Holland has given away, but it’s a pretty obvious joke, not like they’re deviously pulling the wool over anyone’s eyes?!

  4. Esmom says:

I laughed at his “happiest times of my life” comment, too, considering his age. And “teenage legs,” I don’t know why but that cracks me up too. He seems like a good egg, very earnest.

    • florencia says:

Right, lol! Like he’s a grey old man looking back over the vast expanse of his life, when in reality, hon, you’re only a toes step into your adulthood! But I know I also acted like some wise, worldly person when I was that age. xD

Him and zendaya.. i SHIP so hard
