Megan Fox: All women have deep-seated insecurities; Hollywood is high school

Fresh from her surprisingly high-fashion Toronto premiere – and getting the most epic of public bitchslaps ever – Megan Fox appeared on Today this morning for an interview with Matt Lauer. Megan and Matt start out talking about how Jennifer’s Body isn’t really a horror film, it’s just an “irreverent black comedy”. Sure.

A minute into the interview, Matt asks Megan about her career, and says she’s stuck between “this wild popularity… that you’ve been given, or that you’ve achieved through these movies, these huge Transformers movies and this other area where you want to be known as an actress.” Megan laughs and says “Right.” Megan then talks about Diablo Cody and her script for Jennifer’s Body, and Megan stays pretty gracious. When Matt pushes Megan to talk more about her “choices” Megan successfully fights the urge to be snotty, and says, “Mainly, I just happy to be working and I continue to get these opportunities. I try to make choices that are different from whatever project I was last working on… I’ve been lucky enough to surround myself with extremely talented people.”

Matt pushes again, saying that Megan has been very “honest” about her work (mentioning that Megan said she was “terrible” in the first Transformers), but then Matt asks if Jennifer’s Body allowed her to “expand” as an actress. Megan says she’s “green” and “very new” to acting.

Matt reads one of Megan’s quotes back to her, where she was talking about her own insecurities. Megan replies, “I think all actors are pretty insecure. I mean, in general. Obviously, I can’t speak for everybody, but I think that’s what drives us into this business, that insecurity. Especially being a woman, I think all women have some deep-seated insecurities. For whatever reason, because of how we’re raised, because of society. It’s hard having so much focus put on you all the time… because you’re always questioning yourself, second-guessing yourself… You can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

Megan keeps on going, saying that she feels “undeserving” of the attention lavished upon her, but that she thinks it happened because she was part of a project that was a lot bigger – Transformers. But she also says the “worst part” of her fame is the “lack of anonymity”. Megan says “it’s tough… when people are judging” what she says and then goes on to say that Hollywood is like high school. My response: if Megan is so terrified of how people judge her own stupid comments, she should stop saying dumb sh-t. Also, here’s a note to Matt Lauer – I don’t care how hard Megan’s publicist whined, you needed to ask her about the open letter from the Transformers crew members.

Please, no more of this woman’s stupid ramblings.

  2. BitterBetty says:

Aww, she seems a little nervous and upset. I feel bad for her. she didn’t say anything offensive enough to deserve a public lynching.

  3. the original kate says:

bitterbetty – other than claiming to be schizophrenic to gain some attention? i think that’s pretty offensive. i don’t want a public lynching, though – i just want her to stop talking.

  4. lem says:

i’m sorry she does deserve it. her comment about woman having power because we have vaginas was so insulting. power should not be had due to some anatomical difference. intelligence is what should matter. saying woman have the power because we have vaginas is objectifying women because it still puts us on the same level as a sex toy– only “powerful” because we can pleasure men. it does not place women on equal footing to men. she’s a disgrace.

  5. sweet says:

the original kate – if you want her to stop talking then why are you reading articles about her and the things she says?

  6. the original kate says:

    um…because it’s a celebrity gossipboard?

  7. Jenna says:

Ugh, I’ve read the article about her claiming to have a mental disorder and I didn’t see where she said “Hey, I have a disorder going on with my mind!”

“I could end up like that because I constantly struggle with the idea that I think I’m a borderline personality – or that I have bouts of mild schizophrenia.”

She constantly struggles with the idea that she has it. She never claims that she is full on schizophrenia. Or perhaps I’m reading it and taking it in the wrong way.

Did she say that for attention? Yes. Does she claim she has it? No. I’m in the process of getting my Masters in Psychiatry and this woman does not have schizophrenia. I’d say she is suffering from things such as ‘low self-esteem’ or what have you but not disorders in which she needs to go on meds about.

  8. Firestarter says:

Orig. Kate:No joke. So I guess the theory with some is, if you don’t like them you are not allowed to comment on the thread.

Since it is a gossip site, we can read and comment on whatever we would like. Not everyone has to like the person they are commenting on. How boring would that be?!

  9. Green Is Good says:

She was on the Today show this morning with Matt Lauer, and quite frankly she came off well-spoken and very nice.

Credit where credit is due, considering she’s been quoted saying a lot of silly things.

  10. BitterBetty says:

Look, obviously she’s not the most articulate or socially aware celebrity out there, but I really don’t think she’s trying to offend everyone for attention. I think she’s just not that bright and very immature. she’s still in that teenage mindset where being brutally honest is the only way to be true to herself, and a lot of the crap she said is her brand of humor.

Whatever, I get that she’s some peoples Gwyneth. to me she seems harmless.

  11. princess pea says:

@ Jenna – conveniently, you left off half of the quote. So yeah, the way you wrote it she only talked about feeling like she might be mentally ill. Except then she said “I definitely have some kind of mental problem and I haven’t pinpointed what it is.” The part that bugs me is that she might really feel this way, might even believe it, but she clearly thinks it’s a useful tool to get attention. If she honestly thinks that she is suffering from a mental illness, she should talk to a professional. I think she thinks that she sounds ‘edgy’.

All that said, I don’t HATE her. I just don’t like or respect her.

  12. sweet says:

if you want someone to stop talking why would you read the things they talk about?

  13. Jenna says:

Princess Pea, I did leave off the rest of it because it seemed that people were focusing on the schizophrenia part. I was just putting my opinion on that part where I went on later to say that she no doubt has something wrong with her but it’s not in the extreme that I believe she is wanting.

I just found it insulting that she would say those type of things when there are actual people who suffer such illnesses. She may have depression or what have you but not the mental disorders that I believe she was alluding to. But I haven’t actually spoken with her so I cannot say for sure. And Hell, if she does have a terrible mental condition she is doing very well in hiding it (Though I do not think she does.)

On another note, I just watched the interview above and I’m getting a Lindsey Lohan feel from the interview circa Mean Girls time. Why can’t she give more interviews like this? It was actually decent.

  14. funny says:

    too funny

a bunch of women talking about women being more empowered, meanwhile slamming her for speaking her mind

sounds like y’all prefer the pr processed drivel actors typically blather

also, “sweet’s” point is well taken. if you want her to be quiet (spoken just like a man, btw) then constantly commenting on her every utterance is not the way to do it. today’s world thrives on controversy, good or bad

her honesty isn’t bad, it’s that she needs to walk the walk and stop the exploitation films if she’s truly for female empowerment

  15. TwinkleToes says:

You can actually tell who the attractive commenters are vs. the bitter, envious posters on gossip blogs. Women who’ve been envied for men finding them attractive will always defend Fox or be neeutral towards her

  16. the original kate says:

i don’t care if she talks but to pretend to be mentally ill in an interview for attention is totally obnoxious, not empowering.

  17. What evs says:

She’s not honest either.. I’m surprised that some people have said that here. Just because she’s blunt doesn’t make her brutally honest.. Half the time she’s lying through her teeth.
She said she was an outcast in highschool..but she was a cheerleader for g** sakes. (There’s pictures of her with a bunch of friends from high school with her cheer costume) to prove this. She wants to be unique and copy the sensitive persona’s of Marilyn Monroe- or the crazy unique wild Angelina Jolie. She’s needs to stop trying to be others and be herself…but I guess herself isn’t that interesting so she has to lie, copy others and get plastic surgery to be more interesting.
Angelina Jolie was a true outcast in high school. Just look at photos of her.
ALso, Megan Fox was nothing special looking before surgery.. If you see pictures she looks quite ordinary to me. Pretty girl- yes..but nothing special. Now she looks a lot better, but her face borderlines on looking like a trashy porn star. I think too many cosmetic surgeries does that to someone.

  18. Elle says:

I think the crew letter speaks for itself. As a former “crew member” who has dealt w/ some real crazies, I feel for them. They pretty much risked their jobs to defend “Hitler/Napolean” Michael Bay from this ungrateful tw#t. And, attacking posters, saying they aren’t attractive, b/c we don’t like her is stupid. I like many actresses (hello Charlize, the Kates!) not her.

  19. Because I Say So says:

I don’t really get the coverage of MF. Do gossip sites cover her interviews just to point and make fun? I’m all for laughing at stupid people, but with her it’s no longer amusing or even mildly entertaining. I find her boring to look at, listen to, or watch, and I know I can’t be the only one who would rather watch oatmeal than her. When she comes out with a sex tape, I might find my interest resumed 🙂

  20. Jenna says:

I’ll have to agree with Elle and others. People are made fun of period despite the way one looks or if they were pursued so your comment was quite irrelevant despite how many guys go after a woman.

In fact it has nothing to do with that. Megan Fox talks a lot trash (in the general sense) about many things. She sounds like a teenager who hasn’t gotten the attention she needs from the people important. This interview was done quite well in my opinion. She’s a pretty girl by my standards– nothing extra to make her stand out. Perhaps if she continues to give good interviews rather than the ‘trash’ she speaks people will like her.

    Here’s hoping.

  21. brittany says:

So what if she has strong opinions that are inappropriate? She can say whatever she wants and obviously the attention she gets is worth her speaking her mind. And I respect that. It’s nice to see people be out of line sometimes. And she’s not hurting anyone. She has said she never tries to emulate anyone. I do think she is a compulsive liar, which is bad. But I find her interesting and intelligent in a very engaging way. And aside from that, she is just a human doing her own thing. Let her.
