Bridgerton season two has started filming with Jonathan Bailey & Simone Ashley

Now that we’ve all mourned the philosophical death of the Duke of Hastings, aka Rege-Jean “the god” Page, we can get excited that season two of Bridgerton has commenced filming. Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley have made their debut in a few snaps caught while filming at the Royal Ascot Racecourse. Bridgerton fans far and wide got a first look of Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and his love interest, Kate Sharma. Simone and Jonathan look expensive in their regency clothing and they look excited about something. Although we still do not know when season two will drop on Netflix, here are a few more details from Entertainment Weekly:

The new photos arrive after the highly controversial announcement that Regé-Jean Page would not continue to portray the Duke of Hastings on the hit Netflix series’ sophomore turn. It will instead focus on Bailey’s Anthony Bridgerton and his new love interest Kate Sharma (Ashley) inspired by Julia Quinn’s novel, The Viscount Who Loved Me.

Ashley joined the Bridgerton cast in mid-February and her character Kate, who is newly arrived in London, is described as a “smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included.”

Sorry, dear readers, it is as yet uncertain when season 2 will make its grand entrance for all to enjoy.

I finally listened to book two and three of the Bridgerton books and I am currently awaiting the audiobook for book four. My personal favorite so far is Benedict’s story but Anthony and Kate definitely have a more fun and somewhat sweeter story than Daphne and Simon. Like I have said before, I am really excited that the Bridgerton team chose a dark-skinned South Asian to be a love interest. Simone and Jonathan look amazing in these new snaps. Will I miss Rege’s eye smolder, arched eyebrow, and quick wit? Hell yes. However, I am looking forward to the next chapter of the Bridgerton franchise. What can I say? Romance and love are definitely in the air. Don’t judge my cheesiness, I am a middle-aged woman who has been cooped up in her tiny apartment for the last year due to a global pandemic. I am OWED my cheese. Anyhow, hopefully, maybe next season will debut a new hottie who will eclipse the beautiful Rege-Jean. And by the looks of these new pictures of Jonathan Bailey sans those horrible mutton chop sideburns, that hottie may just be Viscount Bridgerton.

Eeek I’m excited! There’s Lady Danbury behind them in the stands!

I think Anthony’s story is interesting because in the books, we’ve obviously already met him and he’s not as much of an ahole as he is in the show, but he’s still kind of a jerk and very protective of Daphne and his family, and that all gets explained in the second book. I kind of wish they had mentioned it a bit more in the first season though bc it ties in with Simon’s character – both men formed very much by their fathers, in very different ways.

  2. Sofia says:

Okay so I might be in the minority but I actually liked his sideburns!

  3. mariahlee says:

They’re going to have to do some work for me to root for Anthony. He was my least fave in season 1.

  4. Cali says:

I am looking forward to Johnathan Bailey, you can keep whatshisface

    • Midnight@theOasis says:

To each his own. I’ll take “whatshisface” any day of the week. The Bridgerton me do nothing for me😂

    • Edna says:

Everyone’s preference is their own. But RJP does it for me. The other guys are Meh.

    • tealily says:

Must say, I hold them in equal esteem.

    • NiqGee says:

I’m there with you. Maybe it’s because I’ve been a Jonathan Bailey fan for years. Rege-Jean is undoubtedly attractive and I wish him all the success but I’ve been stalking Jonathan from his Leonardo days and his slu++y little self in Crashing.

  5. Midnight@theOasis says:

Just as long as there’s more Lady Danbury and the Queen. Those are my favorites.

  6. Louise says:

Me too!! Sad to see them go 😉

  7. EMc says:

I am so here for it! I am reading the final book now, and just rewatched season 1. After having read Anthony’s book I’m more excited about season 2, and although for me he’s no Rege-Jean Page, I think I’ll very much enjoy Johnathan as well. Regardless, the writing and music will no doubt be fantastic.

  8. Che says:

Should I read the books? I usually like murder and mystery so I’m wondering if this would keep me interested

    • Becks1 says:

Well, I mean, there’s not a lot of murder or mystery in the books, lol. But they’re light and fluffy and fast reads. I enjoy them.

  9. Size Does Matter says:

Can someone please tell me how to pronounce Rege-Jean? I come up with something different in my head every time I read it.

  10. Grant says:

I loathed this guy the first season. How are we supposed to root for him in the second season? I’m also kind of over how heteronormative this all is, especially given how progressive it is in terms of casting.

    • PixiePaperdoll says:

Having not read the books, maybe it’s less heteronormative for Benedict? His arty friend was a surprise – he could get move involved there?

  11. agnes says:

I think, I can spot Lady Danbury. *squeeee*
    The world is good.

  12. Mindless says:

I have now read the first four Bridgerton novels in the last two weeks! I love the Benidict/Sophie story as well as Penelope’s story. I just started book 5 which is Eloise’s story last night. About 70 pages in and not sure I am loving it as much as the first 4.

    • Juniper says:

I did the same thing. I’m not liking Eloise’s story at all. I had to stop at 150 pages in.

  13. cassandra says:

Anthony and Kate are my favorite, I’m so excited! I like that they gave his relationship with the opera singer some time in season 1. It’ll definitely make the stakes higher and add more drama in the next season.

I found the Benedict/Sophie story line kind of gross honestly. I’m hoping they update it a bit for the show.

  14. Ninks says:

Benedict was such an asshole in his book that I am truly baffled by anyone who says it’s their favourite. He was fine up until the moment he was told No, and then he became an entitled, selfish dickbag who used his power and position to blackmail and harass Sophie until she finally gave into him. What is the appeal? I’m guessing the show will pretty much white wash his actions in the same way they did with Simon. I’m forever annoyed that the two worst guys in the series, Simon and Benedict were written so much better than their book counterparts, meanwhile the best Bridgerton brother was completely thrown under the bus to make Simon palatable.

  15. The Recluse says:

Several years ago there was a reality show about life in Regency/Jane Austen’s England. Look it up. It was eye opening.

  16. Likeyoucare says:

Well anthony does have character developement.
First he is an a”sehole then the next book we will see why he is that way and how he improve his image.

Sorry for the spoiler, i really waited for eloise story and when i read her story in book number 5, it is really a disappointment.
