Last week, Will Smith posted a picture on Instagram showing off his new dad bod, stating that he was in the “worse shape of his life.” Many people were speculating that the admission was leading up to some big announcement and they weren’t wrong. Will announced in another Instagram post that he has a partnership with Youtube. Will is starting a six-part fitness docuseries called Best Shape of My Life. The docuseries will chronicle his health journey. The docuseries will feature athletes, scientists and fitness experts. Will stated that he is grateful that his body carried him through the pandemic and days of rummaging through the pantry at midnight, but he’s ready to feel better. Hence, this new journey to fitness. Below is more on the story from People:

“This is the body that carried me through an entire pandemic and countless days grazing thru the pantry,” he captioned the post. “I love this body, but I wanna FEEL better. No more midnight muffins…this is it! Imma get in the BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE!!!!!”

The Bad Boys for Life star revealed he’s partnering with YouTube for a new original series premiering next year that will take viewers on Smith’s health and fitness journey.

The six-part unscripted fitness docuseries, Best Shape of My Life, will follow “Smith challenging himself to improve every aspect of his fitness, from agility to power to recovery and more, teaming up with guests including pro athletes, scientists and experts, and top YouTube creators,” according to a release.

The announcement comes just two days after Smith posted a similar photo of his figure saying he was in “the worst shape of my life,” before receiving an outpouring of support from fans and his famous friends.

Listen, I am not mad at the hustle. Will Smith has had his toe in just about everything. From co-producing the Fresh Prince of Bel Air (Bel Air) reboot to his snapchat series to launching his other Youtube channel, Will has been quite busy. When I saw his first post about the weight gain, I knew it had to lead to something, because Will is too vain to expose himself like that. I’ll definitely be watching the channel, I’m not gonna lie. I need to drop a fair amount a weight and I want to get fit and get my agility back too. So it’ll be dope to see how the elite get in shape. I hope that Will not only chronicles his weight loss journey, but that the experts and scientists provide viewers with workout routines, diet plans and a better understanding behind the science of weight loss. I just bought myself a pair of 3lb weights and I have a eating plan journal. Perhaps I will be on the six weeks journey in real time to see how the information stacks up. Good luck to Will. I am sure he is going to need it because getting in shape in your 50s is far more strenuous than in your 20s and 30s. Those bones and joints don’t work like they used to.

Honestly, I love it. If it’s free, I’ll even watch it because Will is entertaining.
I used to be in good shape in my 20s, but moving and not having a bike commute as a part of my daily life has taken its toll. I am tired of feeling out of shape even if I don’t immediately look like it. This is the programming that my new fitness-focused mind needs!

  2. Crows says:

I’ve gained and I’m into it. Not a huge Smith family fan for a lot of reasons but a genuine get back into shape is appealing!

  3. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

I’d be quite happy to watch the delectable Mr Smith get a high gloss on his muscles… God, I need a better hobby.

  4. Eleonor says:

    I will watch it!
    Will is hilarious.

  5. Esmom says:

I might watch it but as much as he seems like he will try to be relatable, celeb fitness routines are rarely relatable to me, given the resources they have compared to the rest of us.

As someone who stayed pretty fit during the pandemic, I will share my regular person advice that has served me well over the decades: Be consistent with your fitness routine. You just can’t start and stop, you have to move pretty much every single day. It takes work and commitment but eventually it does start to feel like an important health habit you don’t want to skip, like brushing your teeth.

I wish I could follow the same rule for eating healthy but I do sometimes slide into bad eating habits. Eating healthy also takes time and commitment, not to mention money.

But good for Will, I hope he inspires other people to look after their health.

Nope. Like Will but have zero interest in his fitness show.

Seems an attention grab to me. Reality tv must be easy money for him.

  7. Tom says:

A lot of people put on weight this past year. Will Smith is exactly the right star for this project.

    I’ll tune in.

  8. Lolo says:

Aw man, I think his body now is more attractive and realistic for a guy in his 50s. I mean he’s still in good shape!

  9. Becks1 says:

I’ll watch some of this and see how it is. I need to shake up my exercise routine a bit – I exercise almost every day, but its either on my bike or just long walks with some pushups sit ups etc afterwards. I need to find a few more activities that are a bit more fun and that challenge me to move in different ways.

I’ve been so sedentary in this past year, even with my working out – I’m not doing the basic walking I was doing before, when I had to walk from my car to my office building, or picking the kids up at daycare, or running lots of random errands, etc. All that random activity added up in a good way, I think. Like at the office I would have to walk 100 steps to get to the bathroom, here in my house its 10, lol. So I’m spending a lot more of my time…..just sitting. So now we have a puppy so I’m trying to make an effort to be more active, even if its just running around the backyard or something.

I’m with you, @Becks1— Will’s show looks fun and I always appreciate fresh exercise inspo. Tried Essentrics TV last winter and enjoyed it for a month or two. Great instructors, gentle but effective strengthening, and lot of their workouts are filmed in exotic locales with gorgeous views, which was nice to see from my living room in February, but I had a hard time disciplining myself to watch the channel every day.

    Cuddly dad bod!

  11. cuchufli says:

If he does some fun online workouts with good music, I’ll do them with my kid. It’ll be fun to workout with Will.

  12. DuchessL says:

Will’s body is cool dad bod. Nothing wrong with it just not cut like it used to be. Im gonna be eatching because i discovered how much fun youtube is during the pandemic. I thought youtube was a bunch of irrelevant kid videos and teen cringy stuff but no, i’m loving youtube. Guess my age lol

  13. Lowrider says:

I’ll watch it and hopefully pick up some work out tips. I gained about 30lbs during this pandemic. The amount of bread and cakes I have baked and eating 3 heavy meals plus too much beer and wine, sitting all the time with in front of laptop or watching tv. I need to focus and lose it before my weight truly gets out of hand.

  14. guilty pleasures says:

I gained about 20 pandemic pounds, on top of being about 10 pounds heavier than I’d like prior to lockdown. In January I stepped on the scale and wondered who was standing on it with me! I started using an app to log food/nutrition, and a fitness app with workouts of all levels, types, and lengths of time. I do something every day. I’m down 23-sih pounds in three months. Slow and steady. I turned 60 this year and want a healthy and strong body to carry me through the tough aging process with fun and agility!!
Love me some Will, don’t love youtube for some reason?

  15. Watson says:

I’m definitely tuning in. He’s such a personality and with the added benefit of experts in the field i expect this to be a hit.
