Prince Michael of Kent has exploited his royal connection to do business with/in Russia

100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force

While he doesn’t get many headlines, Prince Michael of Kent is a beloved member of the British royal family. He’s 78 years old and he’s not a “full-time working royal,” but he gets invited to many of the Windsor events, and he’s reportedly quite close to Queen Elizabeth. Prince Michael receives some kind of royal protection, which is funded by British taxpayers, and he has a number of honorary military titles and appointments. He and his wife, that horrid racist Princess Michael, live in a spacious apartment in Kensington Palace. They lived in KP rent-free for many years, but since 2008, they’ve paid “rent” for their apartment. All of this means that Prince Michael needs his own revenue stream, and he’s fashioned one which is sketchy as hell. The Times of London set up an undercover operation to see if Prince Michael was using his connection to the Crown to create business opportunities with the Russian government. It’s complicated, but here’s the first part of the Times’ investigative report:

The Zoom call began just after 10am. The bearded face on the computer screen from Kensington Palace was His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent and on the cream sofa in Cirencester was his close friend and business associate the Marquess of Reading. Making up the quartet on the screen were two executives from a South Korean company that was seeking to hire the prince to help its gold investment business. What the prince and the marquess didn’t know was that the executives were undercover reporters.

They were investigating allegations that the Queen’s cousin and the marquess were secretly trading on their links to the notorious Russian regime of President Putin, regarded as the No 1 threat to Britain’s national security. As the Zoom meeting began, the prince took the lead. He said he would be “very excited” to work with the company, called House of Haedong, which was seeking contacts in the Kremlin to further its business in Russia.

The prince assured them that his long-standing connection to the country “could bring some benefit” and drew their attention to the fact that the Russian presidency had bestowed on him the Order of Friendship, one of the Kremlin’s most prestigious awards. He added encouragingly: “I have never had any close connection before with gold and the idea makes me very happy.”

Earlier his private secretary had told the reporters that the prince could make introductions to people high up in the Russian government. “We can certainly help in that sense,” she said. “Even if he doesn’t have direct contact to the person that you want, there is a way in. There is always a way in.” When the prince left the call, the marquess stayed on the line with the South Korean company’s representatives and began to outline the type of service he said that he and the prince could offer in Russia.

According to the marquess, the prince had a de facto role as “Her Majesty’s unofficial ambassador to Russia” and was able to meet with Putin. The prince’s “confidential” access to the Kremlin, the marquess said, had remained intact despite the numerous outrages committed by Putin’s regime. The prince, he claimed, would be able to make representations to the Russian leader on behalf of the House of Haedong which would open doors, as the royal had done for other clients in the past. The cost of this service, he said, was around £50,000 for the prince’s four or five-day trip to Russia.

The marquess continued: “If he’s with Putin and five or six other Putin ministers, Putin will be able to say, ‘Right, well, that’s the guy who you need to work with’. And that’s the key, really . . . as long as you get authority from the top, you can get virtually anything done in Russia.”

[From The Times]

While the “using royal connections for profit” thing is notable and ridiculous, it feels like Prince Michael was exploiting his Russian connections even harder than his royal connections. I suppose they’re all connected though. According to the Times, Michael receives British security whenever he’s traveling abroad, and he has traveled often to Russia over the years. When he goes to Russia, he’ll stay in the British embassy. Why all of the trips to Russia? Well…

[Prince Michael] finances his lifestyle by acting as a consultant for business clients and his personal company, Cantium Services, has raked in more than £2.2 million, mostly from fees, over the past five years without paying a penny of corporation tax because it has been operating at a loss. It has been reported that Michael has made “an awful lot of money” in Russia. The prince is treated with great reverence in Russia partly because of his familial connection and uncanny resemblance to Nicholas II, the murdered last tsar of Russia, who was the first cousin of both his maternal grandmother and paternal grandfather, King George V. A fluent Russian speaker, he makes frequent visits to the country for business and charity work. The prince is one of a tiny handful of Britons to be given one of the Kremlin’s highest honours, the Order of Friendship, for his work on Anglo-Russian relations.

[From The Times]

The Times goes on to detail how little is actually known about the reportedly warm relationship Michael enjoys with Vladimir Putin, and how Prince Michael somehow manages to skirt all of the sanctions Western countries have imposed on Russia in recent years. It’s a mess! I know the point is “look at all of these terrible royal hypocrites, exploiting their connection to the crown.” But we definitely need to have a longer conversation about how in God’s name Prince Michael was quietly amassing a f–king fortune in Russia for years and no one was saying much about it?? Also: surely they can take away this dude’s military titles for this??? They took Harry’s military titles away from him because he married a Black woman? Why Michael and Andrew still have their military honors is beyond me.

So this was the most read story on BBC news this morning but to read their version of events it was all the marquess overstepping and saying things on PMs behalf.

I’m shocked, shocked I tell you that the BBC would try and cover up for establishment figures. Having grown up assuming I could trust them for unbiased reporting and gladly paying my licence fee I get more disappointed every year.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

THe BBC has ALWAYS been on the side of the establishment so I’m not surprised by their biased reporting. As for Prince Michael, I believe he is a distraction. There is a reason why this was reported now. What are they really trying to cover up?

      • booboocita says:

If I had to guess, it’d be that Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial is finally getting underway, and someone at Buckingham Palace wanted to ginn up some distraction from embarrassing revelations coming down the pike. That, or PwBT has been rose gardening extra-hard lately …

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@Elizabeth Regina, Yes a distraction. They are trying to divert attention from the Bullying firm of William, Wootton and Knaupf & the obvious smear campaign of Meghan. They’ve been hiding these kind of deals for years. So why now? Distract from the non thinking public that Knaupf(William) et al lied.

I’m feeling angry about the Dean Stott story too. Would love if he & his wife sued. Not on twitter myself, seriously considering it with all the nastiness towards H & M and harassment to their friends.

      • FicklePickle says:

Boris Johnson might be digging DEEP to distract from his multiple concurrent clusterfucks, William might be digging deep to keep up his regular payments to the press, Prince Andrew and/or Buckingham Palace might be digging deep to distract from Maxwell…too many choices.

      • notasugarhere says:

W&K allowing the photos of them and kids boarding the helos at KP are part of that payment. The hedge was planted so no one could see the helo field, yet here we have a series of photos of ‘Happy Family’ boarding a flight.

    • Cessily says:

The video I saw was PM clearly.. his friend was also in an clip but that does not erase PM obvious sanction that this was just the way he does business and who he does business for.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

Didn’t they also cover up all that shit that came down with Pedo was caught selling off information? And was it him or Charles that was caught selling or meddling in selling arms to the Saudis? And let’s not forget Feckless Fergie selling access to Prince Pedo for £50K a pop.

But Traitoring While White is apparently ok. But GOD FORBID you marry color.

      • Soupie says:

I think what you’re saying is quite true Jan, but I think it goes even deeper and further than that. It’s long been known that Prince Harry has wanted out. I think Harry had receipts that go way back before Meghan. I think a lot of the abuse is because of that – they KNEW he had major receipts. Meghan was the tipping point. Why the RF thought they could get away with it, well, they’re stupid and foolish. Drunk on their own money and power.

So I think it’s both: Prince Harry’s very damning receipts of various and numerous kinds pre-Meghan AND racism.

  2. VS says:

It is ok, as someone said on twitter, he

    1) is not black or didn’t marry one
    2) didn’t wear a black dress
    3) did not eat avocados
    4) didn’t wake up at 5am
    5) didn’t wear a nail polisher
    6) didn’t cross his legs the wrong way
    7) does not talk about racism
    8) didn’t write a children book
    9) didn’t take a job
    10) does not have a netflix or spotify deal

    so he will be OK

P.S.: I copied from twitter but it is weird to stop by and realize how stupid all of these headlines are….the fact that people believe them is just mindblowing!!!!

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

You forgot, HE NEVER CLOSED HIS OWN CAR DOOR!!! *GASP* SWOON*

      • VS says:

There is this thread started by James O’brien; and someone just added the closed door thing….jeez, what a country!!! I will shut my mouth as we have the big lie from orange man and his corrupt set of minions trying to destroy our country!
I probably shouldn’t talk about politics on a day like this one!!!

      • Cessily says:

The orange chaos is a totally different topic, he brought on his own fall and and so did those around him. We will forever have to hang our heads in shame over him.

Meghan married the man she loved and showed up to work, she looks to be a happy bright optimistic adult who found herself in a juvenile, petty and dour family structure that rather than embracing her for who she was and giving her any sort of grace period and empathy since she was not born British they criticized and demeaned her every breath. She was in her middle 30’s she is never going to be British but she was busting her a** for the country and patronage’s. From all the things that are allowed if you are a white British Royal and not the biracial American I can see she never had a chance there not when the entire system operates far to much like a bad episode of “gossip girl”.

      • Courtney B says:

Or wore an off the shoulder dress to the Trooping the Colour.

      • milliemollie says:

And he never got a medal for it! Now that’s a scandal!

    • equality says:

He doesn’t touch his own abdomen too often. He didn’t make Kate cry. He didn’t want air fresheners in a church. He didn’t try to kill bridal attendants with toxic bouquets. He didn’t fail to wear a hat when going somewhere with the Queen. He never puts his hands in his pockets. He never skipped Christmas with the Queen. He never wore wedges.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

@vs, that is a great compilation of ridiculousness! I believe it was a twitter thread? I saw on here from David Simon? maybe. His response at that time was something like..okay, blah blah blah with 6-8 numers in your handle, you are sooooo not a bot.lol Priceless.

  3. deplhi says:

Gross. Both he and his Nazi-descendent wife are gross. And sounds to me like Putin’s tentacles are snaking into KP/BRF more than previously suspected. Icky, the lot of it.

And for the record, he looks nothing like George V OR Nicholas II. He has a beard…that’s about it. He just looks like a smarmy old racist shithead.

(Also, does the BRF have so short of a memory as to forget that their refusal to follow through on the asylum request by the Romanovs pretty much sealed their doom? All because Alexandra was…*gasp* GERMAN! Sorry, Russian history nerd here…)

    • Nic919 says:

I also think about the cruelty of letting your first cousins and their kids die like that. While not all my cousins are my best friends, I couldn’t imagine not helping them out from a situation that was life threatening if I had the power to do so.

    • lanne says:

I’m a Russian history nerd too. George 5 also had to contend with the fact that Nicholas was a tyrant of an absolute ruler, and Alexandra was probably the most hated woman in Europe. Besides the fact that they were both cousins to the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha “British” royal family. The last thing George needed was a reminder that the newly Windsorized royal family was actually German. There was also the bad luck of the Romanov kids having measles and being unable to travel when George did offer them sanctuary, and he had gotten cold feet by the time they got well.

All of that to say that George’s grandson Prince Michael, husband of the Brooch Bitch, has been trading on his Romanov connections culturally for decades. He’s always been the royal representative for anything Romanov in Russia, and he even attended the interment of the Romanov family bones in the late 1990s. He was always the one to appear in documentaries giving commentary on the British royals in relation to the Romanovs. Who knew that this cultural interest was also political and financial. I’d suggest that the BRF has a long memory in relation to the Romanovs. Now they exploit that connection for their own personal gain.

Brand British Royal sinks lower and lower.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Didn’t the UK gov of the time express concerns about the Tsar ‘ruling in exile’ from the UK and expecting the BRF to back him up?

Then there is also the alleged British intelligence services involvement in the murder of Rasputin. I find the propaganda around him (Rasputin) to be quite interesting – he was painted as this demonic con man who was banging half of the Russian nobility as well as the Tsarina. Not sure how much of that is true but he was def a charismatic religious man who clearly wanted to advance himself.

      • lanne says:

Yes there’s talk about possible British intelligence involvement but that’s hard to prove. There were so many people who wanted Rasputin dead. He wasn’t sleeping with Alexandra but he was super manipulative. His hypnosis was the only thing that kept Alexei’s hemophilia manageable. During his hemorrhages, Alexis would be in pain, his mother hysterical with worry, and Rasputin praying over the boy, staring into the boys eyes, would calm him down, calm her down, and the likely drop in his blood pressure helped his body relax. He used to tell Alexandra that her son would die if anything happened to him.

The tsar had abdicated and was hated by nobles and commoners alike by the time he could have been rescued. Nicholas would have been a problem for the Windsors for many reasons—even the fact that he looked exactly like George 5 to the point that people even mistook them for each other on George’s wedding day. It would have been a huge problem for the British government with any future dealings with Soviet Russia. The German connection through both Nicholas and Alexandra was bad for the British royals. Probably lots of security headaches with assassination attempts. Even the tsars notorious antisemitism would have been a problem. it’s horrible that the Soviet’s killed the whole family, and the children of the tsar paid for he and his wife’s sins. The soviets were fighting a civil war, and the Romanov kids would have been a powerful rallying symbol for the opposition. The Soviets killing the kids was despicable, but logical from their point of view. Nicholas stubbornly clinging to absolute power he didn’t want, couldn’t manage, nor was even feasible in the 20th century, is what killed those kids. The irony is that Nicholas was much better suited to be a constitutional monarch a la George, who had a similar dull personality. Had he turned the country into a constitutional monarchy after the revolution of 1905, ceded his power then, then even if the soviets took power after WWI, (there were lots of structural problems with Russian society beyond the tsar its regime), George 5 likely could have given the family sanctuary then.

The romanovs downfall was largely the making of their own terrible decisions and entitlement. Kinda like the current British royal family. Luckily for the current Brits, the stakes aren’t life and death for them. They are just gambling with the future of their institution due to their inertia and entitlement.

      • DS9 says:

I think it’s rather simplistic to blame the death of the Romanovs on their English cousin. Nicolas and Alexandra essentially sealed their own fates by being so absolutist in their own views. They also dragged ass on even the idea of leaving. Had the treated the situation with all proper haste at the onset of abdication, they would have gotten out even if England wouldn’t have them.

    • Nivz says:

Yes! The Romanovs would have escaped their eventual fate, if George V had had some compassion. His choice cost them their lives. And bought the British monarchy another century. Was it worth it George V?

      • Tessa says:

George V could have arranged a marriage between Prince Edward and one of the Romanov daughters. Mountbatten fell in love with one of the daughters. They could have been part of the family. It was rather creepy that he did not give exile to that family and his cousin looked a lot like him.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

The royal family is made up of under-educated, useless, racist, grifters and (alleged) rapist/sex trafficker. It’s alarming, yet also amusing, that so many Brits revere them just because they have fancy jewelry and titles. But they are the Trump family, only with British accents (some of which are hilariously phony *cough* Kate *cough*).

  4. Cecilia says:

This should be a way bigger scandal than it is. and all the royal rota (with exception of omid) aren’t reporting on it. Thats the invisible contract for you. It goes as far as protecting the 25th in line but apparently couldn’t be reinforced to protect a 6th in line’s wife.

    Bloody hypocrites

    • equality says:

Piers Morgan actually retweeted it. He’s getting called out for not giving it as much energy as he gives H&M hating though. Maybe somebody forgot to thank him this month.

  5. Digital Unicorn says:

This isn’t new as its long been rumoured that he has been cashing in on the RF’s connections to the former Russian Imperial family – given his likeness to the last Tsar he pretty much has celebrity status in Russia.

Am glad he’s being exposed for the crook that he, and that wife of his, are.

    • Cecilia says:

Except this won’t do much. Prince michael rent-a-kent has been under scrutiny before for shady business. Nothing ever came of it.

      • equality says:

Maybe now, with all the nonsense about being “part time working royals” not being allowable for H&M, it will get more traction. The hypocrisy of the royal protocols and their flexibility for only some is becoming more noticeable.

    • Mia says:

Exactly. Not breaking news at all. I knew very little about Michael of Kent but what little I did know always revolved around the fact that he exploited his features with those still nostalgic towards the Romanovs in Russia.

  6. Sofia says:

This isn’t too surprising. It’s been known/hinted at for years that Prince Michael used his royal status/Russian heritage for his own means. Charles allegedly call him and his wife the “Rent-a-Kents” because of their willingness to “sell themselves” to the highest bidder.

    • Elizabeth Kerri Mahon says:

There were also rumors that Princess Michael was having an affair with a wealthy Russian who did business with the couple.

  7. Phoenix says:

Don’t be surprised. Andrew, Michael, probably Charles, they are all trading their royal connections and doing shady buisness. This is who they are. And that’s why they support each other.

  8. Cessily says:

Unless the BRF address this and steps into stop the harassment of the Sussex’s that continues to spiral downward I’m done with any and everything British. I will check all labels from now on. This entire thing is sick and evil.

  9. ThatgirlThere says:

That whole family is corrupt and lazy and always looking for ways to cut corners. Another reason they couldn’t handle the hard working Sussex’s. What a disgrace.

  10. Jay says:

I kind of wonder if this is leading to an exposure of Andrew and his shady dealings?

  11. Nic919 says:

The UK elite circles are letting Putin’s minions control them and it’s no coincidence that there is now a son of the KGB in the House of Lords, appointed by Boris and many of the buildings in London are owned by a Russians as shady money laundering ventures.
There is a national security threat, but little will be done because the Tories are as beholden to dirty Russian money as PM.

Also, there are a ton of photos with women who are seen with PM and Boris who are closely linked to the Russian government. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are working on trying to get someone into William’s circle because he is just the type of egomaniac that could be used for their purposes.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

I guess William will be encouraged to try gardening a Russian Rose variety… and he said he can’t garden! Pish! That’s one flower bed he won’t let Kate tend to.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Nic919, now that’s an interesting thought. What if they already have compromised Willileaks? Perhaps this outing of Prince M is a little too close for comfort for the brf. I wonder if this is what all of the desperation has been about. I know the trial is coming up in July, but somehow I just don’t think all of the desperation articles that have come out recently have anything to do with that. But if you can put Willileaks and Russia and compromised in the same sentence?

Also, does anyone have an idea about who Maxwell’s husband is? When she was arrested, it was reported that she is married and she won’t name her husband. Any ideas?

  12. Blanca says:

    The Royal family is garbage

  13. Jumpingthesnark says:

Uhhhhh, how is this not treason?????

  14. Myra says:

Based from what the Palace told us when Harry and Meghan were not allowed to use their HRH style, the British Royal Family fully endorses the actions of Michael and all his shady dealings.

As Michael represents the BRF, the queen is also selling access to Russia. Which makes sense since she has been merching gin and whatnot for years now. There’s a reason they call themselves The Firm and this is what she meant by a ‘life of service’ – a life of grifting, merching and shady dealings.

  15. Chica1971 says:

Hardly surprising, they all peddle influence. London is where the oligarchy hides it’s money through real estate. Remember Abramovich ( friend of Jarvanka, owner of Chelsea) lost his UK visa a few years ago because he wouldn’t account for his $$. Went to Israel and became Israeli overnight then back to UK.

  16. Snuffles says:

To quote Harry “If you knew what I knew.” Harry probably knows that many in his family are compromised and up to endless shady business. On top of being racist assholes.

  17. Lauren says:

This guy and his wife have been shady for decades, so why are we getting this hit piece now? Are the papers trying to distract from the political mess in the Uk again? Boris is in a bit of a panic, Sturgeon won again in Scotland and is promising another referendum, and Saqid won London again.

    • MipMip says:

The timing and the source are interesting. In addition to the UK factors you mention we have G Maxwell’s trial coming up, the Gates’ apparently acrimonious divorce and Prince Andrew always lurking about, un-arrested. This investigation was also a Times aka Murdoch piece.

There are shifts going on behind the scenes and the GM trial seems to be a huge part of it. I wonder what’s coming.

  18. harla says:

As I recall a big issue when M&H stepped back was that they would no longer have the palace to vet potential business connections for them and they could find themselves doing business with nefarious characters but as we’ve seen with Andrew and now with Michael, the palace staff are either not capable of doing their job or are not involved. Either way not a good look at all for a Firm and family that are supposed to be the shining example of British morals and values.

  19. Amy Bee says:

This just highlights the hypocrisy of the Royal Family. Harry was asking for conditions that Prince Michael had and was told no. It’s clear he was being punished for marrying a black woman.

    • ABritGuest says:

establishment figures like Boris Johnson have been courting key Russian figures despite Russian interference in Brexit vote & there have been reports of Michael’s dodgy dealing for years. Yet he still represents the queen eg was at Remembrance Day & at the Trump State dinner. So can’t see much coming from this.

The times claims he has private security- paid for by the queen or taxpayers? Wouldn’t be surprised if it is taxpayers seeing as some reports say Andrew is still being covered by taxpayer.

I actually think the real aim of this report is H&M & more likely their kids. My guess is the firm will use scandals like this to change certain rules so that the effect is that Archie & his sisters don’t become prince/princesses if Charles becomes king. See also those recent articles about slimmed down monarchy plans dropping in about titles for working royals only. But they don’t want to look obvious post Oprah. Wonder what Michael will sacrifice to help the firm out eg stop using HRH etc.

And yes the inconsistencies are glaring- from their proposed working model being rejected, HRH use, to patronages & military associations when likes of Andrew & Michael have these shows Harry was treated worse, probably because of his profile but also for being tied to Meghan.

And then Meghan was treated differently from other recent married in in terms of press protection & it was reported before Oprah that she was encouraged to keep working around the engagement which doesn’t seem atypical. So we have these solid examples of the firm shifting policies/rules for H&M yet it’s meant to be hard to believe they wanted to change things for their offspring. The firm tells on itself.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

ABritGuest, what about the military insofar as what they are thinking about who is named in honorary military positions? Personally, I believe I’d just tell the brf to drop ALL honorary positions. Nothing like having people represent you who are consorting with the enemy.

  20. Merricat says:

So for all you anti-monarchists, more incontrovertible proof that so-called royalty think they are born better than the rest, but are actually the worst of humanity (with few exceptions)), especially in Britain.

  21. MsIam says:

And yet that horrible Harry and Meghan, raising money to buy vaccines, are the REAL problem! Harrumph!

  22. Chelsea says:

I do think this is a case of him exploiting his royal connections as well because his friend there described him aa the Queen’s “unofficial ambassador to Russia” and in another part of the sting Prince Michael agreed to use Kensington Palace as a backdrop to impress people for a 200k speech.

But like you Kaiser i do think there’s something fishy going on as to why he’s been allowed to do this for so long while representing the Queen on occasion and why tf he gets taxpayer funded securiry. I actually didn’t realize he got any type of security until this investigation. So let me get this straight: Prince Michael who is the Queen’s cousin, not a full time working royal, and has been known to have shady connections for years can get protection but Harry who is the Queen’s grandson and future king’s son and who was repeatedly threatened by the Taliban for serving his country in Afghanistan had his security removed and had to rely for a time on Tyler Perry’s generosity after being cutoff by his family for stepping back from being a full time working royal? Guess Harry should’ve tried to become besties with Putin and married the daughter of a literal nazi soldier instead of the daughter of a Black woman and maybe he would’ve gotten the Michael treatment.

Something smells here. There needs to be a closer look into the Queen and her government’s private dealings with Putin.

  23. Ainsley7 says:

Beloved member of the family is a bit of a stretch. Only the Queen really likes him and I’ve come to believe she is a very surface level person. Everyone absolutely hates his wife.

I’m actually really curious about his security though. Only the Queen, Prince Charles, Camilla, Will, Kate and kids are entitled to full time security. The Wessexes, Anne, and Andrew all only have protection (paid by tax payers) when performing Royal duties. I doubt the Gloucesters get security and they’re on the same level as Prince Michael. They only have security when they’re inside the gates of KP.

So, why is he getting special treatment? Is it whenever he goes abroad anywhere or just to Russia (the times is behind a pay wall and I couldn’t find it anywhere else)? It just seems strange to send him with security when a threat assessment would show him in no danger. Also, why mention that he gets security at all? I dunno something seems off there. I think he needs to be stripped of everything. I know actual justice will never happen for him or Andrew. However, they both have demonstrated that they are a threat to national security. So, surely, they could be put under house arrest on a crown estate and made to behave?

    • Merricat says:

      I recommend exile.

    • Chelsea says:

I feel like there’s gotta be a reason for that special treatment and the government will not come out clean in all of this. Someone needs to do some real journalism hetr and look into what’s going on there.

    • notasugarhere says:

Not sure where that post went. Wessexes, Andrew, Anne have security all the time. Sophie has repeatedly been seen out shopping with her RPOs in tow. All their estates are secured with taxpayer money too, including Anne’s privately-owned one.

  24. Rapunzel says:

So, let me get this straight:
    Business with shady Russians= OK
Business with Netflix or Spotify = unseemly

    The BRF needs new math.

I do wonder, like others, about the timing of this. Are the new crisis managers feeding the “rent-a-kents” to the wolves to make the FK and FFK look good? Meg and Harry leaving did open a spot under the bus.

    • Izzy says:

If they are, then they’re still doing a better job, IMO. At least they’re pointing to something actually wrong, instead of a stupid nail polish color or affinity for avocados.

Good Lord. When Harry and Meghan first separated their foundation activities from Camp Keenbridge, I figured that Meghan, who was a pretty savvy businesswoman before she met this lot, took one look at the Foundation’s books and ran screaming. Between that and the rest of the family’s shady dealings, no wonder they took off as soon as they could. And they are NEVER going back. To visit? Maybe. But even when Chuck becomes king, even if he wants the Sussexes working for the firm again, I don’t see it happening. Who in their right mind would jump back into that cesspool?

  26. Rnot says:

So this guy is allowed to retain his honorary military appointments and lay wreaths for Remembrance Day? This guy is allowed to “earn” his own living and still officially represent the Queen? Why are their advisors so bad at this? Are they so awful to work with that they’re unable to recruit and retain competent staff? At what point does chaos in the RF become a constitutional crisis?

  27. Jaded says:

Russia has consistently infiltrated and recruited from Cambridge, Oxford and other universities for decades. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if it was discovered that PM and other “royal-adjacent” students have been surreptitiously groomed since they were students. Think of the Cambridge Five spy ring which was active from the 1930’s to 1950’s. I think there are still moles actively working on Russia’s behalf within the royal family, and at high levels of government and MI5, and it appears he’s been cozy with Russian business interests for a long, long time.

    • aquarius64 says:

Russia may know about Sussexit and the Rose Gardening. Sweat Baldimort.

    • notasugarhere says:

I read on another forum that 20 percent of the anti-Meghan bot traffic comes out of Russian servers. Wouldn’t be surprised if that was true.

  28. aquarius64 says:

I first learned about this on Omid Scobie’s Twitter yesterday and hardly no one covered it. Now everyone is picking this up, possibly due to the national security implications. Russia is an enemy of the UK (as well as the US). Considering that Russia was deemed responsible for people being poisoned with Novochik on British soil, Mike playing financial footsie with Putin is not a good look. I bet UK national security branch is looking at this. This deal was brokered at KP, where the FFK and FFQC live. So yeah it’s bad.

  29. Tigerlily says:

From what i have read, PM’s mother Princess Marina, was very snobbish about her royal blood. Apparently she looked down on the late Duchess of Gloucester (Alice) who was the daughter of the Duke of Buccleuch as well as the late Queen Mother who was the daughter of the Earl of Glamis. Princess Marina is said to have referred to them as “common Scottish girls”. Laugh was on her when George VI took the throne and a common Scottish girl was Queen Consort. Must have really chapped her arse to curtsy to QE the QMum.

I believe that Marina raised her children to think they were more royal than the royals. The current Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra don’t seem to think like that but I’ve read quotes from Princess Michael that make her sound like she subscribes to Marina’s way of thinking and that she thinks she is “special” due to her ancestry……LOL. And i imagine Prince Michael has felt all kinds of pressure from his wife to keep her in the style which she aspires to. I wonder if there is resentment on Michael’s part that he isn’t a “working” royal? However, no matter how blue his blood, at the end of the day he is the youngest son of the youngest son.

    • Merricat says:

The whole concept of “blue blood” is laughably antiquated.

      • Tigerlily says:

Merricat. Exactly, in the real world it’s meaningless. And the blue bloods would have a few surprises if they did DNA tests.

  30. MA says:

The corruption is breathtaking. As others have said, Omid is the only one on the royal beat really reporting on this. Chris Ship mentioned it but tried his best to downplay saying Prince Michael is not officially a Working Royal which…..sure Jan. Imagine the global, sustained worldwide outrage if fellow non-Working Royals Harry and Meghan did something like this. There would be calls to strip them of titles and they would be banned from future royal events.
Adil Ray on twitter said the Daily Express had six stories about the Sussexes today but not one on this story. What is wrong with Britain?

    • 2cents says:

Michael of Kent was set up by the Times. The Times is owned by Rupert Murdoch, a fervent republican. Why now?

My little theory: I think this setup is part of a broader post-Brexit struggle for power within the rightwing establishment at the level of the British government and its department, the monarchy.

Murdoch wants to expand and solidify his media empire in Britain, as his position weakened in the US with Trump’s defeat. Last August/September Murdoch had individual meetings with up to seven ministers of Johnson’s government according to Byline!

Boris Johnson’s position has weakened since the Trump/Boris Johnson alliance has broken down. Now he’s under increasing attack from within the Tory party. It’s rumored that Murdoch favors Minister Gove (a former Murdoch employee) as Boris’ successor.

The position of the monarchy is weaker with the departure of three senior royals, the passing of Philip, the aging of the monarch and the prospect of weaker heirs Charles then William. It may be the Windsor’s endgame as Mantel said recently. So this is Murdoch’s opportunity to destabilize the monarchy further with hidden scandals like this and probably more to come.

Prince William and Boris Johnson are allies with the Cambridges doing their best to overshadow Charles and steal the throne.
Republican Murdoch may not like this scenario. We’ll see who will win!

    Wait, wait!
A member of the BRF is up to no good, you say?
    Involving the Russians, you say?
    Just a damn minute now!
I will not stand for stealing the plot line from Peaky Blinders as a handbook on how to get ahead!
Season 2 – 3 double dealing involving The Crown, Russian royalty, smuggled and stolen diamonds, faberge eggs, poisonings, murders, etc.

Dammit, the extended BRF and Andrew are all creeps!
Nazi lovers, racists, snobs, under age sex, payola, cover ups, keeping the Irish down, the list is so long. Weeping Jesus, every single honest member of any branch of the military who has ever served, and their relatives who lost family members serving should organize in front of BP, line up peacefully and keeping chanting “Abolish The Monarchy”

Charles is gonna have his hands full for decades.
Liz must be about ready to put the whole family in Tower of London.

  32. aquarius64 says:

Mike made an official statement; the usual nothing to see here.. BP claimed Mike doesn’t represent Betty. Too bad Omid busted him in on his Twitter page with a screen shshot from Royal.UK webpage with a section Supporting the Queen.

    • equality says:

There are a lot of questions being asked about how he pays “market value” rent for his apartment at KP if his firm constantly runs at a loss.

  33. JaneBee87 says:

In same window of time, multiple articles in BM magically appear reporting that (horror!) Archie has an American accent in his Zoom calls with the Queen. They are obviously desperate at this point, there is no way to even pretend the RF and courtiers aren’t the source of this story. Let’s throw Archie under the bus to protect…checks notes…a corrupt, non-working royal buddy of Putin who is married to a proudly racist, Nazi descended wife. Checks out.

    • Eleonora says:

I didn’t even know what this dude looked like. Only know his wife and not for good reasons

  34. Tigerlily says:

I just came across a Prince Philip quote from 1967. He’d been asked if he would go to Moscow to help ease Cold War tensions. He replied he’d very much like to go to Russia, “although the bastards murdered half my family.” Wonder what he’d make of his relative dealing with a Russian dictator.

  35. L4frimaire says:

Nothing will happen to him or come of this, and it will be brushed under the carpet because he hasn’t pissed off the Queen or upstaged her or Charles.

  36. SureJan says:

    Prince Michael of Kent
    Half in half out
    HRH
    Military Titles
    Kensington Palace lavish home
Friend of Putin and cashing in on his royal connections
All of this is ok because he’s not…sshhh…psst…quite….black..

  37. Poppy says:

I live and work in Moscow, and about 2 years ago, Prince Michael of Kent “helped” open a new international school here.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Poppy, my condolences. I couldn’t imagine a more corrupt country, besides China, to live in. What Putin has done over the decades, he should be arrested and jailed for crimes against humanity and murder.
