Duchess Meghan did a pre-taped appearance on a bench for the ‘Vax Live’ concert

meghan vax live5

Last night, the Vax Live special aired on network television (ABC, CBS), YouTube and various streaming services. Despite the “live” in the title, the whole thing was pre-taped, although the concert part was filmed in front of a live audience of front-line workers. We already saw the reception Vax Live co-chair Prince Harry received when he stepped on stage in LA – Americans clearly love him and accept him and “treat him like a rock star,” as British reporters derisively noted. I figured that Vax Live co-chair Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex would also appear at some point and I was right! She did a taped message for the event from the comfort of her backyard. And yes, she was sitting on The Bench. She spoke about how the pandemic hit women disproportionately.

She says, in part, “Women, and especially women of color, have seen a generation of economic gain wiped out. Since the pandemic began, nearly 5.5million women have lost work in the US, and 47 million more women around the world are expected to slip into extreme poverty.” It’s true. This is one of the huge reasons why vaccines are so vital around the world, especially in developing nations, where women are the backbone of the economy.

Anyway, Meghan glowed, sparkled and shined. Her hair is so long these days! She looks amazing. Even before I looked it up, I knew that the British papers would find the designer ID on Meghan’s dress and they would make it about how Meghan is sitting in her $34 bajillion dollar Montecito home in her $567,000 designer gown wearing $83 million worth of diamonds. I was close! Her Carolina Herrera dress retails for $1,690. She wore Princess Diana’s Cartier watch (according to the Mail), her own Cartier Love bracelet/bangle and a “Woman Power” necklace which comes in a set. Sales of the necklaces go towards Emily’s List.

She looks gorgeous. The White Salty Isle will have meltdowns for weeks.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Luckily the melt downs boost her googleability so it’s all good. Refreshing to hear a coherent, impactful and meaningful speech.

      • GRUEY says:

So so nice to have her speak about women’s rights with her whole chest. It was a great speech and clearly came from her own knowledge and passion. The whole event was great.

And what a difference from that cloak and dagger, “quiet gesturing,” “signaling,” and silently nodding from the BRF and their revolutionary who never puts a foot wrong. It’s so gross to me that Keen Guevara’s silence is supposed to set the proper standard for what women should say about women’s rights.

      • Merricat says:

Gruey, Kkkate communicates her delicate feelings through her selection and wearing of royal jewelry, don’t you know!

    • bamaborn says:

Yes! Really hope she has been able to relax and enjoy this pregnancy. Outward appearances sure look like it. Kudos Prince Harry.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

      She looks happy.
      Gorgeous.
      Content.

      FREE TO SPEAK.

I love the red dress on her, and I spotted the ankh necklace right away; I thought she was wearing it for her *daughter*, but of course it was for all women.

Now let’s sit back and wait for FFKKs to sit on their bench, WITH THE KIDS (to distract from the D of Kent’s selling access for £££££s). We ALL know it’s coming.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

I caught the pendant right away; it looks like a (female) Venus symbol with a BLM fist inside… perfect.

      • Haapa says:

It’s a well known symbol of feminism that is different from the ankh and has existed for much longer than the BLM movement has been around. No disrespect to the BLM movement or anything. Besides that, the raised fist motif has been used for a long time in progressive protest movements.

      • Nina says:

@Haapa you are right. My mom used to have one in her study. She referred to it as a Women’s Power symbol. It has nothing to do with BLM or an Ankh.

      • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

@ Haapa, yes, thanks, I am familiar with the female Venus symbol as one of feminism; as a very young teen in the mid-late 70s, I had a sterling ring with it- I was so proud of that thing ( I’ve no idea what became of it).

This venus symbol pendant also incorporates the solidarity fist, which is currently most visible in the BLM movement. I worded my comment as ‘it looks like’ so as not to be confrontational and aggressive to OG. It is not to imply that I agree that it is an ankh, which is noticeably different. It was a gentle correction.

I agree that the solidarity fist has been used frequently. Lech Walesa used it and the peace symbol in his solidarity movement starting in 1980. I’ve no doubt it was used by others before him.

    • Becks1 says:

She looked so gorgeous and glowing and I loved what she had to say.

The salty tears are so predictable at this point lol.

  2. Joan says:

    She looks great!

  3. ABritGuest says:

Global Citizen said they smashed their goal for fundraising & no of vaccine doses so that’s great. They also said that Meghan convened the private sector so that’s how likes of master card signed up. Must be nice to work with professionals& just get things done without leaks etc. Their initiative for Archie’s birthday which started 3 days ago also raised over $500k apparently. very impressive- well done Harry& Meghan.

Good speech highlighting the impact covid has had on women. Meghan’s hair was LAID. Love when she does a side part. Didn’t like the dress but she looked well. The trolls moon bump theories are ridiculous as she is very visibly pregnant from her nose to fingers.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

Tick, tick, tick to everything you said. You cannot compete where you don’t compare. The other side can continue playing with farm yard animals and running their Tesco ads. The Sussexes are all about making a positive impact and making a real difference.

    • Ginger says:

No one will ever say that hate crew is intelligent. Anyone could tell she is heavily pregnant by looking at her face only.

Meghan is stunning! I wasn’t a fan of her dress but her hair looking amazing and I loved her jewelry. Also, she is a wonderful public speaker. Her message was so important.

    • Cecilia says:

The donations of archies birthday already being past half a million dollars is amazing especially since the fundraiser is up for 10 days. So it will be even more. Im so happy meg& harry decided to yes to this and got involved. I just know that Hugh Evans must be jumping in the air of excitement! It seems like this all turned out way more successful than he had initially planned it to be.

    • Snuffles says:

Yup, she’s got that pregnancy face, big time. Everything has swollen.

    • equality says:

The Philippines has reportedly already received 2 million doses.

    • Liz version 700 says:

The whole thing was indeed so impressive. And Meghan and Harry both were highlights!!!

  4. Cecilia says:

To be completely honest, im not exactly a fan of the dress. I simply don’t like floral patterns. But she did look glowing and that hair!!!! So glossy and so long!

As for the speech, impeccable as always.

I hope that when we’ve had the worst of the pandemic and meghan had time to enjoy her new baby she does a new project revolving around the women effected by covid. Whether it be girls education or domestic violence or something else.

    • Elizabeth Regina says:

I loved the print and it looked fab on her and I agree about her doing something about girl’s education and/or violence against women. Both are topics that need to be tackled urgently and could use the right advocates. Luckily Meghan is not new to this. She has always been true to this.

      • Cecilia says:

To each their own i guess😂 like i said im not a big fan of floral patterns in general. And i know she’s pregnant and wants to he comfortable but i had kind of hoped she would’ve given us a bit more glam. She looks good nonetheless tho.

      • Jaded says:

@Cecilia – but it’s not a “glam” event and isn’t about her, she’d rather the focus be on all the women who can’t “glam” because they don’t have money, they’ve lost their jobs, they’ve got children to support and are barely getting by or worst case, getting sick and don’t yet have access to vaccinations.

    • Meghan says:

My first thought was “her HAIR! it is gorgeous!” And would drive me absolutely bonkers because I always have my hair up. I can only make it a few hours with it down.

She’s always had enviable hair, to me, but it looks like she’s got that pregnancy shine/fullness/prettiness that I never got. We share a name, send me some good hair vibes please Meghan!

      • Sigmund says:

I thought her hair was gorgeous. Don’t know why anyone would think it needed cut. She looked glowing.

      • TaraBest says:

Her hair is beautiful! I have thick hair that was as long as hers until I finally got it cut last week (now that I’m 3 weeks post 2nd dose). All I can see now when I look at hair that long is the amount of time it takes to wash and dry. More power to her, but I’m relieved I got a chop. lol.

  5. Elizabeth Regina says:

I have heard Meghan speak a few times but this was rather special and very topical. TOD could never. No wonder she ran her out of town. How long till the poppy print dress and bench is copied as well? Meghan’s hair looked wonderful by the way.

  6. VS says:

She is such a beautiful woman, my god…..she will be 40 this year but she looks like she is 10 yrs younger!
Most importantly I love how on point her message was; I love that she continues to emphasize how this pandemic has disproportionally affected women, especially women of color….
The donations for Archie’s birthday were also published….it was a great idea to encourage people to donate! I did and hopefully more people, who can, do.

I am in love with Meghan Markle……I just love this woman! so many great women to admire or who can be role models for young girls: Meghan, Michelle, Serena, Kamala, HRC, AOC, etc..

    • Myra says:

She does look younger for her age, even compared to Harry. Pregnancy really suits her, especially for her hair. Look how long it is, now.

  7. TheOriginalMia says:

She is a beautiful woman. Pregnancy enhances that. She looks freaking ethereal these days. Pregnancy glow is real.

  8. Over it says:

The British media and royalist should get a F ——Ing life. She pays her own bills. Kate just wore a new coat of buttons to show up for 10 minutes. That’s where the brits outrage should lie. Kate working 3 times in 4 weeks.

    • Cecilia says:

If im not mistaken that coat was about 1,300 pounds or something. All on charles’ cash.

      • Over it says:

And for what? I thought there was no money for Megs. How is Karen keen still shopping? Oh wait , she is the white duchess so all is well with the brits.

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

A coat, like many JUST LIKE IT, will get put in the back of the Clothes Castle, and be forgotten about until enough time has passed where she can resell it.

  9. Over it says:

She is so beautiful and continues to look younger than she is. .

  10. Paperclip says:

Love love love. Such a great effort that will really do good. Adore her and Harry!

That said, I’m a solid liberal democrat, but Emily’s List can f**k off. If I hear them and their spokespeople refer to ” uneducated women” one more time, I’m going to punch a tree.

  11. ThatgirlThere says:

It’s not my style at all but rather liked Duchess Meghan’s dress! She looks lovely from her side part to her jewelry. She is so clear and concise in what she conveys I’m always so when I hear her speak. Harry is lovely but he’s definitely the luckiest in this dynamic duo.

    • Ann says:

I love the dress but it’s not one I could pull off. The pattern, but not the color. It looks great on her and she looks amazing. I knew she was well-spoken but WOW, this was an impressive presentation. Just imagine the good she could have done in/for the UK if they hadn’t run her off. I’m glad they’re on my side of The Pond now, we got lucky.

  12. Nev says:

Doing the WERKKKKK on all accounts Duchess.
    Haters stay pressed.

  13. Sofia says:

She is absolutely glowing and I love her hair. Not a fan of the dress (like the colour just dislike the pattern) but she is happy and saying an important message so that’s what matters.

  14. Yes Meghan is beautiful and radiant in her TV appearance. And the Brits are jealous and mad especially The other brother and The other duchess. They look mediocre compared to the Sussexes.

    • Gail says:

      They ARE mediocre
      When compared with ANYBODY
      Including their own family
but especially when compared to H&M
      So there’s that……

  15. Charfromdarock says:

She is beautiful from the inside out.

  16. Cessily says:

She looked beautiful and her speech was spot on. Loved the necklace, my friends will be getting them one for birthdays.
The concert was energetic, hopeful and hopefully we are going to see major vaccinations in every part of the world..
Then the British wake up.. and spew their hate from across the pond to try to sully a wonderful event and try to tarnish a brilliantly successful event.
Enough is enough. I won’t shop at stores where I see British tabloids displayed and sold and I will let managers/owners know why I am leaving their stores. I may not have much of a voice or political and financial power, but I can refuse to spend money where they sell hate.

    • Lady D says:

Stuck in a grocery store line-up and reading magazine headlines… Charles orders Harry to divorce Meghan….Meghan caught trying to break up Will and Kate….Meghan ordered back to the palace to answer to the Queen’s charges….. I didn’t think they were allowed to outright print lies but they were on every magazine cover on that stand. By the way, 12 magazines and only one didn’t have Harry or Meghan on the cover.

      • Ann says:

Are you in the UK? I really don’t want to insult anyone, but WTF is the deal with the British Press? How can it be so trashy and unethical across the board. I know there are some fine publications there but as a general rule the Press is just in the gutter.

As for Charles ordering Harry to divorce Meghan, lmfao. Charles isn’t giving Harry a penny and has given him no emotional support either. Harry is a freaking adult, a successful, wealthy one to boot, who knows his own heart and mind. But there are plenty of stupid people who are reading that headline and believing it, and worse yet, thinking that Harry might actually do it. Unbelievable.

      • TheOriginalMia says:

I saw the divorce one. So many copies available and no takers. Straight up trash for birdcage lining.

      • Cessily says:

I think we are all used to Jennifer Anniston being pregnant every few months here but not the level of viscousness we see and read coming from the British tabloids which sadly are being regurgitated by tabloids here far to often. What is truly appalling is when CNN or other major news outlets spew stories directly out of British tabloids with out verification or any accountability. That is not right and needs to be stopped before it’s the norm. I personally don’t have cable because I think 24/7 news channels are toxic and a huge problem in our society because most of them are not News they are commentary and opinion shows with a political bias.
If my kids were little and I saw headlines like they have published I would have complained because no one wants their 5/6 year old reading that filth, especially the headlines. They should be kept in an adult room in the back or covered like the cleavage covers on cosmopolitan and other varieties of magazines.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@Lady D-though I can only get away with it in the checkout lane I’m in and if I’m directly behind someone with a full cart checking out-I’ll pick up those mags, look at them briefly and put them back backwards.

Meghan looks/and is beautiful. I like what she’s wearing and the colors. Don’t care how much it costs, she works for her $. I wouldn’t be surprised if designers are gifting her things to wear. If I were a designer I would.

Very impactful video and am in awe of how eloquent she is.

      • Lady D says:

Actually Ann, I was reading American gossip rags in a Canadian grocery store checkout line. National Enquirer, The Star, In Touch etc.

    • Dawning says:

I am with you. I bought Boden for my whole family for almost two decades, but in early 2019 when I saw how badly the British press treated her, I decided no more buying of British brands. My husband bought me a can of assorted teas with Willnot and Cannot’s picture. I had him return it, even though he got it on clearance. I am a woman of color and one of the few ways I can make a difference is where I choose to spend my money. I don’t have much, but every few dollars count, and if we all take a stand we can make a big difference.

      • Cessily says:

Exactly..I’m done with any purchase of a product from that country until they stop the targeted harassment of all things Sussex. I am recruiting my adult children in my boycott also.

      • VS says:

I have done the same thing….out of the UK I think I still only support: Lewis Hamilton and some of the actors like Daniel Kaluuya; I do like some of Stella McCartney and Victoria Beckham clothes; I have boycotted a lot of other brands and I have reduced how much of Stella or VB I buy….everything else is a straight NO. I refuse to click on anything with .uk in it. I have to go to LDN for work but I will minimize my own spending in that country.

We have hateful people in the US; the level of hate I have seen thrown at Meghan out of the UK while the majority stays silent is a no from me. The people who spew hate should buy their own products

  17. Loretta says:

    She’s glowing!

    • Agreatreckoning says:

Yes, she is. Meghan is a naturally glowing person, I’m envious of it. Can’t imagine how hard it was for members of the Windsor family to deal with her glow when, outside of Harry, they have none. Throughout the pandemic people were turning off electricity to save enery & money. No chance of turning off Meghan’s energy & glow-no matter how hard the Windsor’s in England want to try.

  18. Calibration says:

She looks amazing! Growing a baby, working on Vax issues /fairness, written a book. And everything else. This couple is a powerhouse. I wish the BM would stop bullying them and the trolls would stop hating them but it’s pointless. Even that pic of Archie was trolled mercilessly.

    • Lady D says:

I do enjoy the fact that the picture of Archie pissed them off so bad. They really, really want to know what colour he is.

  19. Osty says:

She looked amazing and I loved her speech . My only criticism is the price tag of the dress , it’s so expensive for such a dress . When she could have gotten a much cheaper but similar one .
Harry looked amazing and happy to be there , a big thank you to them and all those who made it happen. The show was amazing and cant wait for more big things from them

    • (The OG) Jan90067 says:

WHY should she wear a “cheaper one”? She can completely afford to buy her own designer clothes (and did so before marriage as well!) and spend at *her* comfort level. She is not beholden to anyone else to “spend to a limit”. If she wants to wear a $1600 dress, or a $60K dress, WTH not??

Seriously, unless you are the one paying for it, not your business.

British taxpayers have EVERY right to criticize *KK’s* clothes as they are paying (through Charles’ SG monies given to Keen Kate for her Klothing and jewelry allowance).

      • Merricat says:

        Exactly.

      • swirlmamad says:

YUP. Save that energy for Kate wasting other people’s money on duplicates of the same thing she’s already got in her closet.

      • Cg2495 says:

Yep, Meghan can spend whatever she wants ! It’s her money. She doesn’t have to explain to anyone what her clothes cost because she is buying it and paying for it herself.

      • Jewell says:

Agreed. I don’t know what they expect her to wear something from Target? Honestly if she did she would be ridiculed and they would call her “vulgar” again or something worse in spite of Harry’s scraggly mismatched outfit.

    • BABSORIG says:

My goodness, why do people want Meghan and only Meghan to always wear H&Ms? Who’s money is she spending? Stop it!!!! Why should she wear a 60 bucks dress? Because women of color don’t deserve nice things? I’m sick of this nonsense. The same crappy fuss was made about how dare Archie be showered with gifts on his birthday, why are sales from “The Bench” not being donated to charity, stop it y’all. I’m so sick of it.

    • SWEETSUN says:

Just about tired of ww complaining everytime Meghan wears something expensive. Sick of it. AND Y’ALL ARE NOT SLICK. The Northwestern double major who worked from 13 y/o and made her own millions can’t have nice things, but the privileged mute who’s never worked a day in her life and is subsidised towards guffawing mediocrity can wear overpriced button couture without being criticised.

Black women will have nice things. You and your not too slick ilk will cope.

      • swirlmamad says:

“The Northwestern double major who worked from 13 y/o and made her own millions can’t have nice things, but the privileged mute who’s never worked a day in her life and is subsidised towards guffawing mediocrity can wear overpriced button couture without being criticised.”

YES YES YES TO ALL OF THIS. I stan.

      • Hell Nah! says:

        PREACH IT ALL DAY LONG!!!!

      • Christine says:

        This is glorious!!!

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@SWEETSUN, I really don’t want to feel that Meghan fans are separated by anything. Prefer feeling that the majority of her fans are a collective of people that just get that she is a very unique person. She is. My preference is to collectively shame/expose the British Media tabloids for what they are and who they are supported by……aheam cough William. Just don’t want haters to think that supporters are working against each other when haters seem to have an issue with color. I apologize if I worded things wrong.

    • Amy Bee says:

She’s self funded and can spend her money anyway she wants. It’s not for outsiders to dictate how she spends her money especially a black woman.

    • Harper says:

I hope she has $10,000 diamond-studded maternity underpants on underneath that dress, paid for by the Mail on Sunday. Meghan, “My faith is greater than my fear” has shown us that her priorities are standing up for what is right and using her fame for the least of us.

    • Ginger says:

I just LOVE how some people think Meghan should wear WalMart clothes but Kate can buy numerous button coats paid for by the tax payer and it’s totally fine.

Meghan can ( and will) buy and wear whatever she wants with her own money ( that she earned)

      • equality says:

You are forgetting Kate’s very expensive jewelry collection also. And who knows how much of either has even been worn or seen by the public. Also, Meghan probably gets a lower price on clothes for the exposure factor.

      • Cessily says:

Pretty sure she bought her own clothes even when she had the HRH by her name.

      • Christine says:

Meghan and Harry have donated more of their own money to charity than many people will earn in a lifetime on this planet. She owes no one an explanation of how she spends THEIR money. My God, the British press and establishment is completely out of their minds if they think they can shame Meghan while Kate is literally walking around in clothes paid for by the British taxpayers. She is wearing your hard earned money, we know that is starting to chafe, but leave Meghan the hell alone. We get it. You are bitter.

    • Nivz says:

@osty I disagree about the clothes. I often think about why people buy designer clothes at such a price, and it’s all relative isnt it. As the previous poster said, she is spending at her comfort level.

Analogy – I couldn’t afford her dress, but what if someone with a lower income than me, judged me for buying from banana republic or J crew, instead of a similar cheaper dress from target? Yknow?

Bear in mind, too, it’s a tv appearance with millions of viewers.

      • Christine says:

It makes as much sense as being mad at regular people who buy BMWs, Teslas, etc…

You could buy a Kia and use ALL OF THE REST of that money to donate to a charity YOU care about. What? It’s not my business how you spend your money? You are correct, it’s not.

    • swirlmamad says:

Good thing she earned every last one of those coins with HER hard work, so she doesn’t have to answer to anyone in regards to how much she spends on her clothing. Next!

    • Jaded says:

She doesn’t have to dress in sack cloth and ashes…it’s her money, and the money she has raised for numerous causes more than compensates for what she spends on clothing.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Osty, You have an odd perspective. How much money did Keen FFQ spend in the last 12 months on clothes? I know you’ll say that PC is paying for her clothes, so it’s okay. Well, I’m an American and I haven’t quite figured out the difference between the money that the Queen gets to pay for royal engagements and the money PC is getting from a Duchy that he doesn’t own or anyone else in the brf own. Isn’t that Crown property? Shouldn’t the people in the UK get an accounting of how that money is spent? Enquiring minds want to know.

I thought that Duchess Meghan looked absolutely beautiful and I LOVED the dress. Do I begrudge her the ability to buy expensive clothes? Nope, I sure don’t. Especially since what she chooses is always well thought out, and looks so well on her. I’m relieved that she’s not required to wear coat and sister wife dresses. Or are those choices made by Keen FFQ?

      • Jenn says:

Charles owns The Duchy Of Cornwall as long as he is the Prince of Wales. Its proceeds are meant to support him and his children and their children.
So that story about not being no money for Meghan came from Charles. Charles clearly has no problem keeping Kate in the style she become accustomed to.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Jenn. thank you for explaining. I’m still unclear about ownership. Is it in a trust? Who gave permission? for the proceeds to go to the Prince of Wales? I understand that the POW changes over time, but I’m still puzzled.

I never believed that there wasn’t any money for Meghan. I find everything to do with that issue very calculated on the part of PC.

      • notasugarhere says:

He doesn’t own it at any time. He is merely steward at the current holder of the Duke of Cornwall title.

    • TeamMeg says:

Gosh, doesn’t @Osty have a right to her own opinion? And can’t someone here express an opinion about Meghan without everyone bringing up Kate and making comparisons to invalidate the original opinion? If someone doesn’t care for Meghan’s dress what does that have to do with Kate? Let’s not start turning into the very thing we profess to despise.

      • Nic919 says:

It is irrelevant to comment on the cost of the dress when the taxpayers don’t pay for it. That’s the issue here not the style of the dress but criticizing that she paid so much for it. Meghan has her own money and it’s none of our business what she spends it on.

Kate is being brought up because everything she buys is through Charles as the woman never earned her own money in her life. And yet last year alone she spent over 300 000 pounds (around $500k ) on clothing for only doing a few zoom calls during a pandemic. Despite this wasteful behaviour Kate rarely if ever gets criticized for spending too much on clothing. So the double standards are very obvious. Kate is a white woman who can live off the backs of taxpayers for the last decade and spend millions over the years on clothing that looks very much the same, whereas Meghan, biracial woman who has worked for almost 20 years, can’t spend $1,300 on a dress using her own money.

      • TeamMeg says:

That’s pretty dismissive @Nic919 (and you can be sure Kate gets criticized loudly and frequently on this site, as she deserves.) Meanwhile, it’s not irrelevant to have an opinion about how much something cost, whoever is paying for it. It’s an opinion.

One could look at it like this: Meghan’s speech was about providing equal opportunity to disadvantaged people around the world—especially women, and especially women of color. Her Smart Set clothing line was designed with that purpose in mind: to provide equal opportunity at a job interview. What Meghan wears telegraphs a message. She could have given the speech in a simpler outfit; she chose an expensive new dress. But it wasn’t Oscar ball gown expensive. It was affordable for her, she needed something comfortable that fit her pregnancy and she likes florals. I thought it was fine—I mean, she’s a Duchess, I expect her to wear beautiful, designer outfits.

The concept of “expensive” is relative. When new First Lady Michelle Obama wore J. Crew, she was praised for telegraphing the message of being down to earth and wearing affordable clothes, but I remember thinking at the time, “I wish I could afford J. Crew!” A decade-plus later, I may be able to afford J. Crew but I wouldn’t dream of spending $1300 on a day dress—nor would the overwhelming majority of people around the world who are last in line for vaccines. Not even a question. I think that is the point some people here are trying to make. They are entitled to their opinion. It has NOTHING to do with the other Duchess.

      • Nic919 says:

Some opinions are stupid and hypocritical and should be dismissed. Commenting on the cost of Meghan’s dress that she paid for herself is irrelevant. Does she need to wear rags to talk about economic hardship? And please point me to when Osty specifically criticized the costs of Kate’s clothing because saying that the site in general critiques Kate’s clothing costs which are all paid for by the taxpayer is not the same as one person deciding to criticize the cost of one dress Meghan wore and definitely paid for herself. I personally have criticized for years the millions of taxpayer money Kate has spent but I do not criticize the cost of what other people who buy their own clothing decide to wear. And the difference is obvious. Meghan isn’t stealing from food programs for the poor or extra child care when she wears her clothes. But every cent that goes to Kate’s coat dresses is money that could have been otherwise diverted to more worthy people. That you can’t understand the distinction is being obtuse.

      • notasugarhere says:

It is absolutely hypocritical from Osty and ‘TeamMeg’, Nic919. Names I’ve never seen on here before. Hmm.

      • Jewell says:

Its not just an opinion its a microaggression.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Team Meg, I assume when Keen K placed her zoom calls during this last year, that you calculated the cost of the dress? And, since I assume she was zoom calling charities, you also questioned what message she was sending. I guess the message you are sending us is the the American colonials should do better (better in your opinion), but the British royals can send whatever message they want because the people they’re talking to are subjects.

      • equality says:

@TeamMeg Is it hypocritical to protest the cost of Meghan’s clothing, when I bet, every performer on the show spent far more on the clothing they wore? Is everybody else getting this type of feedback or just Meghan? And, thanks to the BM, it does have to do with Kate when she can be doing charity events with foundations that benefit those in need and wears expensive clothing and jewelry. The same type comments should apply: “why couldn’t the money be used to fund the charity?”

      • TeamMeg says:

As I clearly stated above, I don’t have a problem with how much the dress cost—none at all. I simply thought @Osty had a right to voice her opinion. Her comment was overall positive, and the way everybody piled on her made me uncomfortable. Now you are piling on me! Alrighty then. LMAO

      • equality says:

Disagreeing with someone is “piling on”?

      • notasugarhere says:

        Yes, Jewell, definitely microaggressions.

      • TeamMeg says:

@equality No, “disagreeing with someone” is not piling on. Piling on is a stream of comments calling someone stupid, hypocritical, troll, microaggressor, etc.

      • notasugarhere says:

Failing to recognize microagressions after they are clearly and repeatedly explained? That’s a deliberate choice.

    • BlueToile says:

I think it’s entirely possible that designers are lining up to dress her for free or very substantial discount. After all the dress she wore in her interview with Oprah sold out (in all sizes) in less than 24 hours after the teasers hit the airwaves. That dress was more than $2k. She is no longer is working member of the RF, so i assume she can make mutually beneficial arrangements with any designer. Whether she paid for it or not is irrelevant in my eyes. I do get upset when people gripe about the cost of Meg’s clothes, but not the 10,001 bespoke coat dresses Kate trots around in.

      • Joan says:

Yes, or she receives a “deep” discount.

      • L4frimaire says:

The thing is, if she’d worn a $500 dress, we’d still get the same criticism that it was too pricey and no one would be congratulating her for it. Or they would say for such an important event, she should have worn something more prestigious, or who does she think she is wearing a bargain dress with her multimillion dollar house with all the bathrooms. No one would change any part of their thinking based on her dresses price tag.

    • ProfPlum says:

@Osty, everything isn’t for everyone. She’s under no obligation to tailor her wardrobe to anyone else’s budget. She’s a private citizen with her own fortune–not beholden to the public for her upkeep. Let her live and stay out of her pocketbook.

    • Amy Too says:

“ When she could have gotten a much cheaper but similar one.” But not really. She could get something that looked similar, but it would likely be polyesters, fast fashion, made in an unethical way by underpaid workers, mass produced, and it would make her sweat and itch because it’s a cheap fabric with unfinished seams, and it would tear, or the zipper would break, and the fabric would fade, and she’d have to throw it away in a year. Maybe what she most looking for in her clothing isn’t the style but the fabric and how it feels and wear, the quality, whether the dress is made in an environmentally friendly way, whether it had to be shipped across the world and then trucked across the country, whether it’s a small or woman- or minority-owned brand with well paid workers who get paid time off and benefits, whether the company uses the profits for something charitable, whether the materials are ethically sourced, whether it would be easy to alter, whether it will last a lifetime. If that’s the case, and I bet it is, then no, she can’t just go buy something similar for under $100 from her local Target.

    • Kris says:

She likely got it for free, too. She can now accept comped items since she’s not a working Royal.

  20. Gk says:

At least they aren’t paying for it anymore. Should be happy about that and start taking steps they aren’t paying for other royals jewelry and clothing.

    • Jan says:

It seems the royal family/Duchy was not paying for Meghan’s clothes, that is something that needs to be talk about, along with owning most of her jewelry.
Remember the royal family wanted Meghan to keep acting, to finance herself.
Why do you think she was not wearing all British designers? If you’re paying for your clothes you can buy them from whomever.

      • Nivz says:

I’ve seen some Twitter threads with receipts discussing the wardrobe funding, and really wish we could get confirmation so this complaint is put to bed once and for all.

Speaking of Twitter threads, sometimes I feel like I’ve gone through the looking glass when it comes to reliable Sussex news. How interesting that Twitter threads are better sourced in facts and analysis than so called mainstream UK media, who are disseminating disinformation from their pulpit.

In other circumstances, primarily American politics, we are used to Twitter being a platform for the crackpot alt right peddling a parallel narrative, faaaaar from reliable political news (eg the Maga ecosystem).

So given that background, as a disinterested observer, when I started to follow Sussex news more closely, I wondered to myself, is it right to commit to what’s being said on Sussex Twitter?

The answer turned out to be yes. It’s all there to be seen. Helps that I don’t have an agenda of white superiority or white disaffection. Twitter journalists are worth a thousand nikkahs or tomineys. And those two are the broadsheet RRs.

  21. BABSORIG says:

I love, love, LOVE Duchess Meghan and prince Harry. And Duchess Meghan did not disappoint me, 👏🏿👏🏿 I really love that dress and color on her👌🏾👌🏾, she is such a beautiful woman 😍💕. And I am so happy that she addressed “how the pandemic is affecting women and especially women of color” great message my duchess 🥰. Can someone please ID her jewelry (necklace, earrings etc)? Gosh this woman is so gorgeous. And she’s not just a pretty face, she’s got the smarts to go with it, Prince Harry is really a very lucky man. Also, the BM, BRF and all their minions and moon bump haters can stay pressed, joke is on all of the lot.

    • Gingerbee says:

@Babsorig, the necklace is by a company name Awe Inspired. The necklace is sold out, but I got another one, based on their inner goddess quiz.

      • VS says:

a fan ID’ed the necklace yesterday; I was so tired and thought I will buy it this morning; the one Meghan wore is sold out; the only option left is the silver one

I want what Meghan WORE 🙂

      • BABSORIG says:

Oh wow, thanks ladies. Oh well, everything Meg touches turns to gold, I knew everything would be sold out by the time all was ID’d.

  22. MellyMel says:

So pretty and the pregnancy glow is real!

  23. Snuffles says:

Wonderful speech. It’s nothing short of amazing how effective she and Harry have been since leaving to suffocating restrictions of being members of The Firm. They are absolutely SOARING!

  24. Wehweh says:

Red and gold really look good on her. She looks really relax in this dress. I prefer her style here than when she did interview with Oprah.

  25. Jan says:

Meghan has been pregnant every year since marriage.
This dress hit the right note, Springy, jewelry simple. She proves time and time again that you don’t need ostentatious jewelry. It’s the inner beauty that shines.
The guy that put this show together is pretty happy with the job done by the Sussexes, I don’t think he expected them to be, so hands on.
I think Harry and Meghan make one another better.

  26. mariahlee says:

She looks so cute and it’s really her consistency for me. She is reliably committed to her core causes, and that’s particularly important when it comes to women’s issues, bc they intersect with virtually everything. It’s the difference between feminism as a way of thinking and the buzz word people cling on to.

  27. TeamAwesome says:

That dress is exactly the kind of thing I would love to wear, but wouldn’t because it would make me look as pregnant as she.

    • Lady D says:

Wear the damn thing. You get ONE life, enjoy the little moments that will make you happy. They are few and far between.

    • L4frimaire says:

The original dress is belted and looks more fitted. Unless they make a maternity version, she probably got it a few sizes bigger to fit over her belly. If you were actually as far along in pregnancy as she is, one probably probably wouldn’t look pregnant if bought in the correct size. She also gave a really good speech foe a very vital cause.

  28. Amy Bee says:

This is the type of work Meghan wanted to do as a royal but the Palace wouldn’t let her for fear of overshadowing the senior royals. I’m glad that she and Harry have the freedom to do that now.

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

      @Amy Bee
This is sooo true and its a point tht I think #sussexsquad shoukdlmake more frequently & loudly.
But its more than the “fear of overshadowing” the more ‘important’ mediocres why the Firm didnt want H&M to approach charity work in the way they wanted to. Dont forget tht helping others is NOT a priority of the royals.

As we all now know, its fear of their own demise at the hands of their disillusioned “subjects” tht keeps the royals doing their particular brand of “work” which amounts to: dressing up, showing up at other people’s projects, and getting their picture taken.

H&M were intent on upsetting tht little racket by their impact-driven work. Tht could not be allowed to continue.

    • Laugh or Cry says:

THIS!!! It will be interesting to see how this plays out decades down the road when the Cambridge children come of age. Archie and all of the other cousins will be living their lives. The bad seeds sown by TOB and his equally matched partner in that toxic Petri dish of an environment, (ugh parents need prayer and intensive therapy). Hopefully the laziness genes isn’t passed down but time will tell.

  29. Sarah E says:

Remember when we used to think Kate had an eyeliner issue?? Wow this is a lot…

    • Lizzie says:

Meghans makeup is flawless. Not sure how much is actually eyeliner but whatever she looks stunning.

    • February-Pisces says:

I think her eye make up looks great. The difference is Meghans look can handle the heavy smoky eye. Kate loved that eye pencil kohl that all the aunties used to wear in the 80s, which is quite smudgy and looks a mess quite easily. I used to love eye pencil in my 20s, but in my 30s ditched it cos it just made me look a drunk tired mess. I mostly go with out eye make up, but if I do, I would use softer brow eye shadow as it’s more subtle. I think kate has since ditched the eye kohl which I’m actually surprised by, now all we need is for Britney to do the same thing.

      • Kate’s eye pencil makes her look hard and old. It’s because she has “hard” features to begin with and too much eye pencil/liner makes her look all the more severe and grave. Meghan has soft features so even heavy eye pencil/liner doesn’t make her look harsh but enhances her features all the more.

  30. Mimi says:

    She’s hair goals

  31. MsIam says:

I like the dress. The print is very retro and Meghan looks great. So glad to see that this a success but when you look at India and South America its scary to think about how much work has to be done. People are crazy to think that this emergency is coming to an end.

  32. Original Penguin says:

The dress is fine- it looks comfortable. I like the idea the jewellery conveys. But what really strikes me here is her hair. It’s sooooo long and thick now.

  33. Boo says:

She’s beautiful and so articulate. Love the colour on her. Hair could be extensions (nothing wrong with that)

    • Nivz says:

Agree, no hate on extensions, but Boo, OTOH we have had scant access to haircuts for over a year, so it’s possible her hair grew. Also, pregnancy hormones!

      • Dl says:

My shop was closed for 24 weeks! We are still in red tier but at least I finally got a haircut. My beautician said she didn’t recognize me with hair everywhere😅

  34. Liz version 700 says:

Meghan always looks so amazing in bright saturated colors (see also the F you I’m out of here final tour dresses). I mean she looks amazing in anything because she wears the passion of her causes. I love that she makes an impact. I can’t verify it, but someone on Twitter said Archie’s Bday drive for the vaccines has raised $535,000 already. When have the Duke and Duchess of Salty Island or Queen Petty Betty ever accomplished that kind of actual financial impact in a project? Besides the shady Trust thing when do they ever put shots in arms or food in mouths. carolE if you are reading do let me know

  35. Midge says:

She bought that dress with her own money, period.

    • Liz version 700 says:

As she bought most of the clothes she was trashed for wearing in England with her own money period as well. She elevated the dress as she elevated everything she touches.

  36. NicDix says:

I love the dress, the speech, her hair, face and everything.

  37. Petra says:

Great speech by Duchess Meghan Markle.
I know I was not the only one screaming Amitabh Bachchan at the tv last night.
The donations to the initiative for Archie’s birthday is off the chart…over $500,000.00 and still counting…wow!

  38. Jan says:

Unless you know how much the material cost, you don’t know how much any dress should cost.

    • L4frimaire says:

I work in clothing production and this bugs me so much when people say why is she wearing that expensive dress. If anyone thinks the fabric is the same as some H& M polyamide blend, they are woefully ignorant. Fabric and manufacturing cost is a huge driver, and yes, profit is factored in. I once worked for a company that sourced their fabrics and manufacturing in pre-Euro Italy, then moved to Turkey ( some amazing manufacturing), then China. All to keep costs down, but then people complain about how the quality went down. Meghan dress is within her price point and most designer handbags that so many people carry around costs way more than it. She was just wearing Madewell jeans the other day so what’s the point of this price policing. Stop pocket watching this woman and equating cheap clothing to virtue ( lot of pollution and exploitation in fast fashion). As others have pointed out, was anyone critiquing the costs of what other women were wearing at this event?

  39. Watson says:

This dress? Hate it. It looks overwhelming on her small frame. Love the colour and concept of a bright large floral print but I think it’s too much when you pair this pattern with a collared button up shirt. It would work better i think on a taller larger frame.

I can understand why she wore it though: no no one can see how large her bump is at all due to the loose semi structured fit, and the pattern. I hate people speculating on her size/pregnancy/due date so this was a good call in my opinion.

But honestly who cares about her fashion when the world wide event that she and Harry worked on generated hundreds of millions for vaccine equity??? This is WORK, and work done well.

Kate’s Hold Still project was a success but it was limited in scope, specific to the nation. Will and Kate better prep their children for the next photo call. Depressing but true.

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

It’s loose/breezy and comfy for someone who is likely to deliver within a month.

    • original penguin says:

I think I would love the print on her if fit was a blouse, with white trousers or a skirt. But she’s so heavily pregnant – i’ll giver her a pass on it. It looks comfy and she looks professional – that’s a win for any pregnant woman.

      • Watson says:

Original penguin: this is true. If i were as preggo as she is I’d be sitting by the pool and eating cheese whiz rather than styling myself/ gathering donors for this event. 🤣.

  40. Carmen-JamRock says:

    Yes. You are.

  41. Nivz says:

I came here to say, Meghan is an eye opener for me, in a world where women are so often forced into sometimes mutually exclusive labels… Glamorous. Beautiful. Mother. Influential. Thin. Strong. Happily married. Rich. Creative.

Yes, people like to say women can be everything, but it’s mostly theoretical. M is the rare, real life example of transcendence above those limiting constructs. She is a public figure who can inspire and make me feel good about myself, instead of inadequate about my career, income, charitable contributions, weight… what have you. It is why she is loved and admired by so many millions of women like us.

As much as I try to avoid the “labels”, I guess I’m very much a squaddie after all!

  42. Jay says:

I was always going to be on board with a shirt dress and a side part. Hope she’s feeling good these days!

  43. Jaded says:

I have to say the comments that are only nit-picking her clothing, hair, make-up, etc. are really disappointing. Look at what this woman has accomplished in such a short period of time. Look at what she had to face up against from the UK tabloids, her own mendacious father and step-sister and her vile in-laws. She was chewed up and spat out and became suicidal with a new baby, that’s how bad it was.

People are even picking apart the amount she and Harry raised for vaccines FFS, and that it’s not enough, especially for the worst hit countries. Awareness is a huge component of fighting something so huge and amorphous as covid. No it’s not going to be over soon, but the more awareness shone on the issues women (esp women of colour) are facing WILL help. Nothing good happens overnight — look how long it took women to get the vote; look how long it’s taken for women to break through the glass ceiling; look how long it’s taken for more women to get into politics — now the US has a woman of colour as vice-president. We need to believe it will happen.

Maybe I’m just a glass half full person but I’m thrilled with the good works Meghan and Harry are accomplishing and how this is just one more successful FU to the royal family, and I really don’t have an opinion about her hair and clothing choices, she would still radiate inner beauty wearing a burlap bag.

    • equality says:

And are the people picking apart what others do to attempt to help, doing anything at all productive themselves?

    • BABSORIG says:

Big huge 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿for yrbpost @Jaded. 100% agree. H8ers are criticising the Sussexes for the 500+k raised for Archie that it’s too little? Incredible; like how much has the entire BRF donated let alone raised? And, to think that such criticism would be reserved for governments like that of the UK 🇬🇧who refuse to commit nor donate even a single £ to this pandemic alleviation.
Oh well, haters gonna always hate, I suppose. And honestly, even though Meg has never dressed for any attention to be on herself (maybe except for the coulda had a bad bitch tour), to me she looked gorgeous last night. IDC what some say, Meghan is beautiful inside and out.

    • Nic919 says:

I am tired of pretending that the people who criticize how much Meghan spends on her own clothing are anything but racist. This isn’t the same thing as criticizing Kate because Kate never had a damn job and never had a cent to spend for all the designer stuff she wears. She is the future future welfare queen. But Meghan is getting zero dollars from any taxpayers and we have to start questioning the cost of the dress? Nope. That’s just the racism talking.

People can hate the style all they want, that’s fashion criticism, but this faux concern about the cost is plain horseshit. It’s not coming from the public purse and is no one’s concern.

  44. Monica says:

I love the whole look. So California, from the poppy print to the dangling earring to the wind blowing through her long hair. More importantly, she has a voice and a stage, and she’s using the hell out of it! I hope everyone who can has donated.

  45. booboocita says:

So very lovely. I’ll admit, I wasn’t crazy about the dress, but she made it work, as she does just about everything she does. I guess big floral prints and bright colors are having a moment, given Dr Jill Biden’s lemon dress (LOVE that she repeats dresses), Olivia Munn’s gold with floral/paisley spray overlay, and Meghan’s white-flower-on-black dress that she wore during the Oprah interview. I also loved Chrissy Teigen’s tangerine mini-dress and JLo’s big colors during her last set.

    • L4frimaire says:

The dress looked good to me.Nice color and print. All I see is belly so at this stage it’s all about comfort. She’s in the home stretch.

  46. Julia K says:

In the UK the poppy is worn on English Remembrance Day. Is the poppy print fabric a sign?

    • TeamAwesome says:

The poppy is also the California state flower.

      • Winter Day says:

When initially saw Meghan in the poppy dress, the pattern indicated to me Meghan celebrating her California roots. The same occurred to me when she wore that lovely lemon dress a couple of months ago.

  47. MA says:

The double standard for black women and here with Meghan is so stark. Not one comment about the costs of the outfits for Serena, JLo, Chrissy Teigen or how much they should cost, or that they could’ve gotten something similar for cheaper. Haven’t seen one comment about the cost of Jill Biden’s Oscar de la Renta either.

Meghan is a PRIVATE CITIZEN and can spend HER money on whatever she wants or accept designer freebies. People act like she was wearing a couture ballgown instead of an off the rack dress that’s not extravagant for people in her income bracket. Something about Meghan living comfortably and enjoying nice things rankles a certain type of white woman who would prefer she dressed in Zara or H&M.

  48. Watson says:

So out of curiosity i clicked on the daily fail’s coverage of Meghan at this event. Commentators are going on about her dress, and jewelry cost (Cartier love bracelet & watch, etc.), and , saying she should never wear Diana’s watch as it’s an insult to the Royal family.

Newsflash: Diana hated those racist losers, that’s why she divorced Charles and tried to get the hell out of that institution.
Newsflash: having an heirloom watch and a bracelet you bought in 2017 isn’t being wasteful with your money. She is re-wearing good solid pieces she can hand down.
Other newsflash: she’s a private citizen who can do whatever the hell she wants with her money. They paid back Frogmore, have their own jobs, pay for their own security and are INDEPENDENT. Meghan and Harry owe them nothing. I hope they never go back.

    • swirlmamad says:

Hahaha — they WISH they could have a say on whether or not Meghan should wear Diana’s watch. It belongs to HARRY, her son, and he, in turn, gifted it to his beloved wife, as is his right. So the BM can suck rotten eggs — no one GAF whether or not they think she should have it or not.

    • Laugh or Cry says:

Agree, I hope they never go back as well, but that is a long shot, at the minimum, for the queen’s funeral and their charities. Those people, bots and/or mouth breathers, are a lost cause, and at this point, it’s like why caste your pearls among the swine…like don’t argue with a fool. The hatred in deep within the DNA and soul. It is to be expected, sadly.

  49. ABritGuest says:

Well said Lanne. People seem to purse watch black/mixed race high profile figures way more than their white counterparts-see treatment of Michelle Obama’s spending v Melania Trump’s. This seems to be the case even when they aren’t publicly funded. The message seems to be you can’t have nice things.

Now I think if a wealthy person is asking for donations whilst surrounded in luxury it’s understandable to be like- you open YOUR purse. But we do have lots of examples of H&M opening their own purse- best being when they matched their fans fundraising for Camfed. And today it came out that Archewell has donated nappies& various supplies to this home for homeless pregnant women for Mother’s Day. So least we know they follow through with their own action.

  50. Soupie says:

Meghan looked great as usual. I thought she looked a bit uncomfortable. Seemed more subdued and a little nervous maybe? I don’t know. It’s no big deal really, just a subtle difference. They obviously have a lot going on behind the scenes so she’s probably just tired. When I was at the stage of her pregnancy both times I was super uncomfortable, maybe that’s it.

    • Laugh or Cry says:

Hi, I know exactly what you are saying, to me, JMO, it seems her tummy is starting to drop. Who know the baby may have been moving up a storm, sharing her views as well! ☺️

  51. MerryGirl says:

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Celebitchy moms. Meghan is so freaking georgeous, she just sparkles and shines so that her inner beauty just comes out. I enjoyed the whole concert and and was glad that Harry and Meghan as co-chairs were able to bring so much money and awareness to the cause. It was noticeable that the leaders of USA, Canada, France, the Pope all brought messages of support, all except BoJo of the UK.

  52. Victoria says:

Meghan looks great and she did great! A wonderful speaker!

  53. Eleonora says:

Good point on how women are the backbone of the economy.

  54. Nyro says:

I’m there as well. I used to love British period piece dramas. I can barely watch them now. Especially ones that serve as lowkey propaganda in favor of the class system and the upper class. I used to loooove Downtown Abbey yet after a post-Meghan researching, I was pretty disgusted. The benevolent land owning peers and the lowly servants, grateful to scrub their dirty drawers. The way they had Tom the driver go from Irish freedom fighter to complete sellout and bootlicker is so messed up.

  55. MMadison says:

So Meghan speaks and well lets just say explains why Kate hides books.

  56. blunt talker says:

I have said this many times-Please white people of the UK-don’t tell people of color how to spend their own money they have earned-It will get ugly real quick-Peace out.

  57. Calibration says:

I’m just so happy celebitchy allowed me to come back as a commenter. Thank you! And Megs looks amazing. The hair is incredible.

  58. Cee says:

Meghan is IT and no amount of nastiness and jealousy from her political family will ever take that away.

  59. Gah says:

I haven’t read through allll the comments but it’s worth noting that a $1000 dress is made in a European country and from fabric that costs more than 2$ a yard.

If Meg chose to wear a less expensive brand (or heavens fast fashion) she would likely have to answer for the labor practices and environmental damage related to manufacturing the cheaper item.

She is subject to an appalling double standard in the media and in public perception that can only be attributed to race.

She literally cannot win with most people.

Let her wear designer! All day every day! She can wear designer clothing and still do charity
