Duchess Kate to launch ‘ambitious & hugely significant’ Early Years project this week

kate five1 (2)

In the Kensington Palace Instagram post about the Duchess of Cambridge’s event with Dr. Jill Biden, the IG caption included this curious preview: “Next week, The Duchess is looking forward to sharing a major announcement about how she is working to elevate the importance of early childhood and continue the conversation on this vital issue.” You guys!!! We’re totally getting more pie charts!! We might even get a whole new survey, plus she’s going to need to buy a new wardrobe with extra buttons for her second decade of “studying” early childhood development. I seriously cannot wait! But of course, Keen Kate can never simply be keen in silence. No, she needs to get credit for thinking about being keen, which is why there were some curious hype pieces about the bold new button-covered plans to do even more pie charts.

Kate Middleton is set to ‘step up’ her early years campaign with the launch of an ‘ambitious and hugely significant’ new initiative that will equal Prince William’s £50million Earthshot Prize. The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, has championed the cause since she joined the Royal Family and was a driving force behind a landmark study on perceptions of early childhood and its societal impact last year. This week the mother-of-three will launch a new project through her and Prince William’s Royal Foundation that will further explore the science surrounding early childhood and raise awareness of the issue, with new collaborations with relevant groups, reports the Daily Telegraph.

Lord Hague, chairman of the Royal Foundation, told the publication that Kate believes this is one of the ‘greatest issues of our time’ and is a ‘central plank of her work in the way conservation issues are for the Duke’. He called it ‘ambitious’ and a ‘hugely significant moment’, adding that the Duchess’ interest in the early years doesn’t just stem from being a mother, but ‘actually comes from all the adults she’s met’, and well as her own happy childhood.

Kate previously spoke about her personal interest in the early years during a landmark speech after her Five Big Questions on the Under Fives survey garnered over 500,000 responses.

According to royal expert Camilla Tominey, the Daily Telegraph’s royal correspondent, the Duchess knew from the moment that she married Prince William that she wanted to find a philanthropic cause she could champion as impactfully as Princess Diana’s landmine campaign.

[From The Daily Mail]

It’s hard to keep up with all of Kate’s annual keen plans, but I’m almost positive that when it came down to it, Kate’s people insisted that her big Early Years project would not actually result in anything tangible or anything. There would be no report, no new charity, no new thing. It was always going to be a vague keenness, and Kate promised that she would care deeply about early childhood for a long time, and that was about it. So what is this new thing? Is she… going to give prize money to people who “solve” early childhood development issues? That’s what William’s Earthshot Prize purports to do – he’s giving prize money for “solutions.” Since I’ve been following Kate’s Early Years work since the beginning, let me tell you something: when you actually examine Kate’s statements on early childhood, you realize how problematic her busy work actually is. She’s repeatedly indicated that she believes that struggles in early childhood will always negatively affect people throughout their lives, meaning if you don’t get it right in early childhood, your kids are going to be in terrible shape forever. And that’s just not true. So is she giving away prize money to solve single-parenthood or to help people not be poor? The Keenshot Prize, coming this fall.

  1. Cecilia says:

“This is one of the greatest issues of our time” WHAT exactly is the issue kate? What exactly is lacking in early childhood development that you plan on working on? Does she actually have a plan? Because it all sounds so vague.

Also, am i the only one that thinks it strange that there was no “william the statesman” pr this past week?

    • PEARL GREY says:

It’s also strange that this week’s pro-Kate propaganda felt the need to put her in direct competition with William and her deceased mother-in-law. Why mention that her new project is meant to be “equal” to William’s Earthshot Prize? Haven’t we been told that Kate is the perfect royal wife because she doesn’t try to compete with or outshine her husband? And why bring up the little tidbit that Kate wanted a philanthropic cause to champion like Diana? Diana didn’t take a decade into marriage to try to look busy.

      • Becks1 says:

And Diana also addressed many issues besides landmines. That was at the end of her life. I think many people in 2021 forget what an impact Diana had with AIDS and how AIDS patients are perceived, because we forget how stigmatizing the disease was. And that was before she turned 30.

      • taris says:

the kate rebrand project now has her as wills’ equal, heh? she’s no longer trying to not outshine her husband? (as many royal ‘experts’ have actually been praising her all these years).
        lol.

it’s telling the things these people reveal without realising they’re revealing it:
•they’ve figured out that the mother/wife image just doesn’t inspire and relate to young and modern women, so kate, like, *does* things now, you guys, oh my gosh – public speaking (or whatever that was this past weekend), causes, pie charts, etc
•the diana name-drop is probably just an extension of her long-running diana cosplay and desperate wannabe antics. she really really really wants to be diana, guys. also, it may be some kind of battle for diana’s legacy (that harry has firmly won; sit down, kate)

all this just seems to me like the carnival of experts trying waaay too hard to make kate and her husband (esp kate) appeal to the young ‘uns. they know and it must bother them that they have to compete with harry and meghan with young people in the uk, hence the youtube + the sad attempts to make wills sexy and kate’s pathetic sort-of transformation as some kind of feminist. the aggressive efforts by the press on behalf of these two dullards are just so transparent and futile.
        it’s not working.

        lolest.

      • MonicaQ says:

That’s what made my grandma fall in love with Diana; how she held children with AIDS and just treated them like children, as people, not as a statistic or the walking dead.

      • Lorelei says:

@Becks jfc it’s unreal to me that she wasn’t even 30!

    • Sure says:

Agreed! W was practically invisible during the G7 photo ops. Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on why he seemed to be sidelined.

      • Cecilia says:

I don’t know why. i fully expected them to go crazy with the william pr this week. Instead we got keen and her mumbles

      • LaraW” says:

Not sure Charles would take very kindly to William peacocking about being a Great Royal Statesman when 1. there are actual career statespeople about, 2. Charles is hosting that dinner thing and likely flexing his I Am Regent, Soon To Be King muscles, and 3. the absolute unmitigated disaster in Scotland. The stories would have to say something more substantive than “William is coming into his own as a statesman.”

      • swirlmamad says:

@LaraW, that’s no more than them constantly saying “Kate is coming into her own and finding her voice”. You’d think it was the perfect opportunity to push their “William as statesman” BS as well, but it is quite curious that William was so secondary throughout the G7 and they chose to push Kate forward with disastrous results. There aren’t enough “yikes” to describe the whole thing.

      • LMR says:

My guess is that Prince Tampon Charles wanted the spotlight directly on him and would not share it.

    • Merricat says:

William is not prepared to play with the adults, and he knows it.

      • Becks1 says:

I think they were trying to keep him off camera/mic as much as possible to avoid any gaffes.

      • Sofia says:

Plus with Kate, even if she sat there in silence, she would be wearing a dress that people can comment about and even put on the front pages. Can’t talk about William’s fashion in the same way so if William sat there in silence, it wouldn’t give the press anything. Plus most people are more interested in the royal women then the men.

      • Kalana says:

Behind the scenes health issue? Remember how he looked in Scotland?

    • Eurydice says:

Yes, this is what I don’t get. Early childhood isn’t an issue, it’s a stage of life – she might as well be saying “adulthood is the greatest issue of our time.” So, is it early childhood education, mental and physical development, nutrition, safety in the home, what?

      • equality says:

She might want to not lean too heavily into the nutrition part. That will just invite questions of why footballers had to help feed UK children and the royals did nothing. If she leans too heavily into the mental development she will get questions about non-concern for Archie. Physical activities would be her best bet.

      • Cecilia says:

@eurydice. Its such a shame because there’s so much she can actually do with this. And she just does a whole lot of nothing.

      • BeanieBean says:

Good point. And I’d like to know why they keep emphasizing Kate’s happy childhood. Are they saying that her happy childhood produced the confident caring best-of-all-time parent you see today? Because, well, connect the dots.

      • Chaine says:

@Eurydice, I feel as if once her kids are adolescents she will be fronting a “study” on “The importance of the teen years” or something like that.

      • keroppi says:

@Cecilia – definitely agree. As someone who works in the field of early childhood development, it saddens me. She could be amplifying the voices of those who are doing the work, but she’s really not. She’s only amplifying her own voice and she has nothing to say.

    • CindyP says:

Maybe she just take a human growth & development class or read a book

      • Noodle says:

“Duchess Kate reads a hugely influential Psych101 textbook!” “Future Queen Consort picks up a massively dense journal on early childhood education and doesn’t understand a word!”

(Sorry, their use of adjectives and adverbs in every quote/article about Kate drives me up the wall.)

      • BeanieBean says:

Noodle: IKR? And they’re always some variation of ‘huge’ and ‘massive’. That’s the extent of their vocabulary.

      • Noodle says:

@beaniebean, and it’s not just said about them, they also use those adjectives/adverbs constantly in their speech. How many Zooms did she give “massive thanks” to healthcare workers? It’s like when you’ve picked up on a word or phrase someone you know overuses, then you hear it every time he/she speaks. It’s a pet peeve of mine.

    • LaraK says:

The problem is, she doesn’t actually want to do anything because it’s beneath her.
I think she saw the writing on th wall with Meghan’s cookbook – to compete on tangibles she’s actually have to do something and see the commoners and even eat with them and stuff. ew!

No, this is more her speed – pick a nebulous concept and just talk about it endlessly. Classic Kate.

      • Merricat says:

Her parents are commoners. Marriage and a title don’t turn your blood blue in this game of thrones.

      • Lorelei says:

@Noodle: Nic919 has said this a few times and I totally agree— the way they talk about Kate is VERY Trump-esque.

Everything has to be the biggest, the best, the most influential, a landmark, etc. etc.

And the number of years she spent “focusing her work” on this issue keeps going up, too. Each time they make a statement, it’s more fantastical than the last, and it’s all so easily proven wrong. Soon they’ll say she’s been working on this issue for 16 years or something, lol.

As he is a sociopath, it’s actually super disturbing that this is a very good comparison.

    • Amelia says:

Translation (of the announcement): “I have this really great idea so get ready for more Meghan cosplay!”

I wonder which shoes of Meghan’s she’ll pick next. She’s already worn: Jennifer Chamandi, Vejas, Manolos and Aquazurra.

Oh hang on, does this means we’re going to get more keenness pantsuit cosplays 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s difficult to take her seriously anymore when a) she sat aside and commanded more praise for herself whilst Meghan received the worst racism from the press on a regular basis to the point she wanted to kill herself and b) she gaslights Meghan CONSTANTLY by copying her style choices and knowing she’ll get praised for it.
I read somewhere in a book that when someone often chooses to copy your style and they’re not even subtle about it, it’s a sign of theirs being a narcissist.

William and Kate are both psychos smh

    • Lowrider says:

Not strange at all! This what I have been questioning, what is wrong with Will.

A UK charm mission doesn’t involve the future king?

      • LMR says:

Perhaps Will, who publicly pushed back against Harry’s claim by stating he’s “not trapped” and has “embraced his legacy”, really hasn’t embraced his legacy. Behind the scenes, he may recognize this monarchy business is a ridiculous facade, finds it meaningless and humiliating, and wants no part of it.

I think he has stopped trying. Stopped trying to appear as if he enjoys engagements, stopped trying to appear as if he loves his wife, stopped trying to appear as if he gives a damn about preserving the monarchy. He may be threatening to abdicate behind closed doors in order to get his way. I think the Charles/Will interactions are worse than we all imagine.

Everything I just said is pure speculation of course.

      • Cecilia says:

@LMR: i think everything you just said might actually not far of. I said it during the Scotland tour. William has realized that this is quite literally what the rest of his life is going to look like and it makes him deeply unhappy. And apparently he also has no solace in the fact that he’s doing this with his wife. I think william knows she’s coming up short.

It would also make sense of all the “harry needs to come back” “william needs harry” stories we got a while back.

      • Becks1 says:

@Cecilia and @LMR I think you both have good points. Many of us have speculated here for years that William often threatens to walk away behind closed doors. It would explain 1) why they coddle his temper so much and 2) why no one took Harry seriously when he said he was going to walk. They genuinely thought he was just throwing a fit like William does.

I also think that he has realized at some point that he doesnt actually like how his life is going to be. It’s got to be kind of weird to be almost 40 and to be looking down the road at the next 50 years and just see…..more of the same. Charles was in the same position and he made a very pointed decision to try “do something” before he became king. William hasn’t done anything.

Then he sees his brother, living in the house he wants (without having to be “gifted” the house), going to the beach regularly, mingling with celebs randomly (I wonder how much that bit in the Dax podcast about Orlando bloom bugged William, bc it was just such a casual mention – “oh well you know Orlando Bloom is down the street and he texts me to tell me the paparazzi are there” like Harry is just texting with hollywood celebs who wont work with William), and doing the projects that he wants to do, not what anyone else tells him he should be doing. Harry makes his own schedule, he doesn’t need courtiers to tell him what to do. Harry is dealing with his past and coping with his mental health, and William seems unable to do that.

I can see all of that just really getting under William’s skin in a big way.

      • Lorelei says:

@LMR and @Becks: imo Charles should call his bluff. Be like, “fine, leave, and take your children out of the line of succession as well” and see what Willy has to say then.

      • Becks1 says:

@Lorelei william would probably be like, FINE, I’ll sign a deal with MySpace and be more famous than Harry!!!!!

      • Lorelei says:

        @Becks “MySpace” 😭😭

      • Lowrider says:

LMR has good points but this G7 was a major engagement and he was pictured once! If he thinks the monarchy is a joke and bread and butter engagements are beneath him then his time at the top will be hilarious.

      • Harper says:

All I saw was one photo of Will talking to Macron with Kate staring at Will adoringly and I thought no wonder the press doesn’t want to run with this kind of photo after having endured a week of the same thing with these two in Scotland.

      • notasugarhere says:

So many good points here. It is starting to look like William needs Harry – simply because he wants Harry to be as miserable as he is. Both have always wanted out, but Harry is the only one who escape to a happy and free life. William cannot handle a royal life where he is miserable every day, unhappy in his business arrangement marriage, and his whipping boy is free.

      • JaneBee87 says:

@Becks1 Brilliant! Baldimort’s MySpace contract is funniest thing I’ve read all day 🙂

    • ElleE says:

Also, why the insistence on erasing Diana’s true legacy: de stigmatization of AIDS? No one wanted to touch a person with AIDS-one woman changed that. Landmines?ok. Is it because AIDS is associated with being gay and at the time, with dying a slow horrible death? This made her a f-in icon -Elton John didn’t love her bc of landmines. The way her story is being re-written and stolen from her is pissing me off. We can’t let them do this.

    • PrincessK says:

Can anyone tell me what happened to her ‘Broken Britain’ project?

      • Becks1 says:

I think that’s now the Early Years whatever and we’re getting a big announcement this week about it supposedly….

    • Curious says:

this is so strange.”The Duchess of Cambridge, 39, has championed the cause since she joined the Royal Family.” wow that long, i truly don’t know what this woman is doing, before she had children, she was never around children, she didn’t work in any preschool. for some reason someone thought it will be a good idea for her to work with children. but the only children she is around is her own. when i worked in preschool,i saw so many uni students asking permission to study the children for a month. they will come and blend inn, take notes ,ask for private meetings with parents ,where they will go to the home of the child. whatever they wrote was between themselves and the parents .,when they write up about their experiences about the children well being, names of children and parents was changed to protect them ..

  2. LaraW” says:

Meghan: here’s a children’s book that’s been printed and is on sale now.

Kate: here’s an announcement to announce that there will be an announcement.

    • Kalana says:

Maybe Kate actually invented Post Its.

    • Carmen-JamRock says:

Aaaahhh…..of course. Thats it exactly. These people are so cringe-worthily transparent.
So I wonder wht theyre gonna counter with when M’s other TANGIBLE and IMPACTFUL projects are revealed thru their netflix programming and their partnerships.

Also, when i read these embiggening announcements of announcements to come, apart from the Baghdad Bob-esque nature of the over-generous usage of superlatives, Ive also noticed an insidious pattern…..theyre laying the groundwork for how she will be discussed 10….20 ……30 yrs down the rd. In other words, they are brazenly packing a resume for her tht is built in bare-faced lies. But watch how it will be swallowed & believed & regurgitated by the sheep.

Just like the “17 lies” tht the propoganda papers keep repeating abt H&M’s O interview that the sheep keep regurgitating. Without pushback on these efforts this is how dictators win. #edwardyoung.

      • LaraW” says:

@Carmen— I’m not very optimistic that the people who eat up the Windor cotton candy will still be alive to support Kate’s propaganda campaign. We’ve discussed that Kate and William are particularly bad at connecting with the up-and-coming generations. All the fluffy resume building might be for naught by the time it’s supposed to take full effect.

      • iconoclast59 says:

@Carmen-JamRock Baghdad Bob — what an apt comparison.

    • Miranda says:

The announcement will be that Keen is writing a children’s book about how totally warm, caring, and selfless aristocrats (with fantastic heads of hair, why do you ask?) are the bestest dads any little boy could ask for. It will be titled “The Chaise Longue”.

      • LaraW” says:

No no, I don’t think Kate’s creative enough to call it the Chaise Lounge. It will be “The Garden Bench.” An ode to the special bond between mothers and children and the happiness a mother feels when her children return from boarding school.

      • Kalana says:

The Log. We’re bringing it back!

      • Becks1 says:

@Kalana – yes, that’s what I was thinking of too lol. And Kate can say she’s been working on the book for years and they’ll go back into the court circular and add all these fake meeting for it lol.

      • Lorelei says:

@Kalana okay now you actually have me in tears of laughter

      • Lula says:

I think it will be called ‘The Buttons on the Bench’ and described as a ‘bright and breezy look into the early years, with (Pippa) tips on how to get that shiny hair’. Just a suggestion.

      • Christine says:

You all have me in tears of laughter!

    • Anne Marie says:

At the rate Kate’s going, this generation of kids that she’s talking about will be grandparents by the time anything actually tangible is going to come of all these “conversations” about early childhood. Her PR folks did her wrong — “early childhood education” is too broad and it can quickly become political (i.e. funding for schools, etc.). They should have narrowed the focus on the importance of kids + exercise/sports or something similar. Then she could have actually partnered with specific organizations and organized a bunch of do-nothing photo ops. This is really not that hard.

  3. lanne says:

I’m enjoying how keens lack of work is going to look this fall when Meghan and Harry start working again. The ratchets better start exercising their fiction writing muscles, because they are going to have to create a lot of bullshit to make kates work sound superior to meghans. But this is exactly what would happen when they decided to pit the Sussexes against the Cambridges. The Cambridges have only themselves to blame.

    • Courtney B says:

My only concern is that they’ll do one of several things:
1–ignore it thus there won’t be any comparison to make
2–‘avocado it’ meaning find some stupid thing about it to beat Meghan over the head with
3–if they can’t find something ala #2 they’ll still use it to trash her somehow (see The Bench and the relentlessly nasty reviews in the UK)

      • Lorelei says:

@Courtney: using “avocado it” as a verb is brilliant

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

lanne & Courtney B, Yes, the US tabloids might pick that up, but not the credible US media. I think I can say that about the Canadian media, too. The pushback to credible US news sources will continue. Plus, I think they’ve seen enough coming out by the BM that they are going to be viewed suspiciously. The US has no dog in the brf show. Let them implode with the aide of the BM.

  4. Izzy says:

You know, the more she talks about it, the more I realize how snotty and elitist she sounds about kids who don’t have a storybook childhood like hers. As if they will never be able to overcome challenges, never be able to achieve as much. That seems to be the gist of her very basic, un-nuanced message.

    • Kalana says:

And in the end, all three Middleton siblings achieved what? All of them were failures to launch. Pippa and Kate married rich men, that’s it.

    • Sofia says:

And it’s not even applicable to her own family. I’m assuming James had a similar childhood to Kate yet he deals with/has dealt with depression.

Yes Early Years are important and all kids should have a happy childhood but having a happy/fulfilled childhood doesn’t mean you’re going to be a great adult. And having a disruptive/not so stable childhood/early years doesn’t mean you’re doomed as an adult.

      • Lorelei says:

@Sofia I have wondered what James thinks about the way she frames this.

Like, he had the same upbringing that she did, which was apparently flawless, so he must have some sort of defect now that he’s suffering from depression “later in life.” Because that’s how it comes across.

One would think she’d make this connection and stop spouting this highly offensive and factually untrue narrative, but, it’s Kate, so.

      • Chaine says:

I don’t want to simplify the nature of depression as an illness and condition of brain chemistry, but it can’t have helped a man predisposed to depression to have been raised in an environment where his mother’s constant and fully transparent decades-long focus is marrying her daughters to future kings/lords/titans of industry. Just speculation, but the Middletons senior may not have given him the same level of attention and coddling during “The Early Years” or thereafter as they did Pipps and Kate.

      • Cairidh says:

Carole Middleton is a textbook Narcissistic Mother. Kate is a textbook adult golden child of a NM. So there is no way she had a happy childhood. Women with NPD are the mothers from hell. The courtiers probably know that and encourage Kate to say she had a happy childhood to cover it up. When there’s more than one child Narcissists, make one the scapegoat. They wage a constant smear campaign against them (at home) to make them look bad. James is probably the scapegoat.

    • Ginger says:

I agree. I also agree with Kaiser. Kate comes across very snotty and entitled in her approach to early childhood. She thinks if the first 5 years are not ideal you are screwed as an adult.

Why the first 5 years? If you reach the age of 6 you are good to go? Harry lost his mom at age 12 and that had a significant impact on him as an adult. I wonder if she will focus on the later years in childhood? She just comes across this all wrong.

    • Harper says:

Kate’s stable family life, compared to Will’s trainwreck of a family life, was always lauded as one of the reasons Will was attracted to her. It’s the party line on why Kate was good for Will. For a woman who has never worked, and her only identity is as Will’s girlfriend, it looks to me as if she is clinging to this storyline of coming from a happy home as an actual achievement on her end. That’s why everything she says about the Importance Of The Early Years is so shallow–she had nothing to do with it; it was just luck. In fact, someone who grew up in a problematic environment might be a better spokesperson for the Importance Of The Early Years–someone like Will, or even Harry would come off as more empathetic, having famously been brought up in a tumultuous family situation. The Importance Of The Early Years is why Harry and Meghan took Archie out of the royal family and are protecting their little ones in sunny Montecito, away from the pain and havoc Will & Kate continue to shower on the Sussex family. Wonder if Kate ever sees the irony in that?

      • equality says:

Kate’s propaganda can’t say Will’s family life was a trainwreck. That is disrespectful to the Queen and highly hurtful to sensitive Charles whenever Harry says anything.

      • Gail says:

@ Harper…as above you wrote “the Importance of”…and my brain filled in with ‘being earnest’ before my eyes read the rest of your words and I laughed. She is earnestly trying to sell us a load of …something. That’s for sure!

  5. Kalana says:

Hands down, Kate has spent more time over the last eight years getting her hair done for her Early Years engagements than working on Early Years. She’s a royal mannequin counting down the minutes to her next vacation.

  6. Eurydice says:

Um, ok. I think she achieved all her hugely significant ambitions when she married William, but…ok…

  7. Alexandria says:

I’m sure the actual experts are pleased she gets the honour.

  8. Basi says:

The epic fail with Dr Biden and then Monday morning we get this. I can’t with this woman. She must be isolated from negative press. Her PR team is amateur hour.

  9. HeatherC says:

So does this mean we might get an animated bar graph this time around? Maybe a PowerPoint presentation with all the available sound effects put into each slide?

  10. Libellule says:

So there will be bar charts in addition to pie charts?

  11. Merricat says:

You can’t make something out of nothing. Kate lacks substance, which is reflected in every “project” she claims. She couldn’t even get it together for FLOTUS. All smoke, no fire.

    • iconoclast59 says:

Or as they say in Texas, all hat and no cattle.

    • Saucy&Sassy says:

Merricat, but why? I simply don’t understand this. Is she incapable of memorizing something? That would have helped when she was doing a roundtable with Dr. Biden. At least she would have seemed prepared. I keep asking myself why she’s this way. If Peen wants to get rid of Keen, this is one sure fire way of doing it. The woman is completely incapable. I keep thinking that she chooses this road. But, what if she isn’t choosing it? What if this is who she is? Is that why ultimately Peen chose her to marry? I used to think she must have something on the ball because she got a degree. But, I’ve since come to the conclusion that she got her degree much like Peen. And it’s not because they did the work.

I really wish this made sense to me, but I really don’t understand any of this.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’ve always suspected William married Kate to get back at his family. He knew she was a poor choice, but he wanted the cover of ‘happy family man’ and a wife who would embarrass the royals. Trouble is, now he’s miserable because he wants to be a global statesman – and his wife is an embarrassment.

  12. Amy Bee says:

It’s the vagueness I can’t take. Even William Hague spoke in such a vague way. The soft launch last Friday was a total flop and I see more of the same when she launches her big project this week. As Kaiser said, she’ll likely have a new outfit for this event.

    • Lorelei says:

@AmyBee if they’re always very vague, then there is nothing specific they can ever be held accountable for not following through with.
It’s actually a pretty smart strategy, if your goal in life is to never have to do a damn thing, ever.

    • Lady D says:

Slightly OT, but I thought it was brilliant of Bojo’s wife Carrie to wear rented outfits all weekend. It probably saved her a lot of grief with papers eager to cover up Kate’s gaff with Dr. Biden.

  13. aquarius64 says:

Everyone saw what a failure the round table with Dr. Biden was. This is damage control.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ aquarius64, yes, this was solely damage control and as the months, or years pass, this big vague announcement will be result in nothing being done.

    • TabithaD says:

I think the article about the “launch” actually went up before the roundtable, so I think it’s the other way round. TBH I think Dr B was being used to generate interest in Kate’s project, which is pretty disgusting when you think about it. In months to come, I bet we’ll be seeing plenty of pics from the roundtable (maybe worked into videos from their snazzy new YouTube channel), and mentions of that article they co-wrote, as “evidence” that Kate has been working with the finest minds and networking at the highest level. People will have forgotten by then what a disaster that roundtable was for Kate.

      • Lorelei says:

@Tabitha they quite literally wasted Dr. Jill’s day for a quick photo op for Kate, and I don’t think that is something that people will forget or take kindly to. At all.
Lots of us here immediately saw it for what it was — appalling and transparent — and we cannot be the only ones.
Dr. Jill did an excellent job of handling it diplomatically, but you could tell that there was some real irritation (rightfully so!) on her part when she realized this.

      • Becks1 says:

@Lorelei she was irritated and what that tells me is that how Kate operates is not standard on the world stage. A lot of times we hear “well these are just meant to be brief visits, this is standard” as a defense of Kate’s lightning visits, lack of preparation, etc. But here it was clear that Dr. Jill came prepared and she expected a serious event. Instead she got a photo op where Kate got to wear a new dress.

  14. The Duchess says:

Her malfunction at the roundtable discussion with Dr. Jill Biden told me everything I needed to know about her. She doesn’t give a damn about early years and never has. Why is she still pretending? Give up the act Kate and come clean. Admit that all of this has been picked out of thin air by the courtiers because they can see how useless you are compared to the Princess in Montecito.

I can’t wait till Harry & Meghan begin their work again after they finish their parental leave. I can’t wait to see the likes of Will & Kate squirm once more. This whole early years project is an insult to every parent and child out there.

  15. Sofia says:

I’ve said it again but I really don’t know what Kate’s goals with early years is other than cute photo ops with kids and making it seem she does something. Her and her team really need to have a goal and say what it is. If she’s trying to raise awareness then who is it aimed at? Most of the general public know that early years are important (as seen by the numbers of Kate’s own survey). If it’s funding for programmes or even funding for research, again say that because to me, that doesn’t seem like the goal.

Her staff should have picked sports as her big project. To me, it seems like she’s actually interested in that and could encourage more sporting opportunities especially in areas where facilities are almost non existent.

    • Chaine says:

ITA, the only time she really seems to come alive are the engagements around sporting activities. She could have a whole initiative surrounding academic study on the benefits of sports for children, championing sports charities, etc. and I bet she would seem more engaged and be able to speak with some level of authority and liveliness about her topic.

  16. Aurora says:

Why does no one ever ask her what specifically she’s doing with early years? Who has benefited from her “research”? What programs have arisen from this “10 years” of work?

It’s amazing watching a false legend be constructed in real time.

    • BothSidesNow says:

@ Aurora, yes, and the harder they push her to be a legend, with everything put together for her, as she doesn’t actually do any of the hard work, it will result in nothing. Her big five questionnaire didn’t produce any results, nor will this vague upcoming project as well. And you are right! What has come out of her her 10 year early plan? We haven’t seen an ounce of substance some from her 10 years of work, and yet she still has to drag her dead MIL into the picture.
As one of you mentioned last week after the “round table”, Diana knew what her job was and she prepared herself with experts to help her overcome obstacles, like public speaking and such. What has Keen Doucheness done to prepare herself? Nothing, but buying ugly clothes and tryin to keep PWT out of the rose bushes!!

    • notasugarhere says:

It hasn’t been 10 years of ‘work’. The early years platform was thought up by the private secretary in September 2018. The Friday night three days before the publication of the Together Cookbook.

      • kelleybelle says:

Great receipt. Keep it filed away. 😉 I figured it was something like that. The palace was panicked that next to Meghan and her cookbook that Kate was looking like the nothing-burger she really is.

    • Nic919 says:

If there were real reporters they would ask Kate what exactly she did as work for early years prior to the announcement of Broken Britain in an article by Rebecca English in the DM, three days before Meghan’s cookbook launched in September 2018. Because there is no mention of this type of project prior to then. And they pre announce everything, so what exactly was her “work” in this area before then?

    • windyriver says:

Hasn’t this whole project been basically moribund, at least publicly, since the fanfare about the charts, until recently, when news came out about Meghan doing a children’s book?

Not to mention, Meghan just had her second child, which means she’s even more of a potential threat to Kate’s position as ultimate royal mother authority. She’s already written that sensitive NYT piece about miscarriage. Not to mention, I hear Harry is quite good friends via his veterans work with the same Dr. Jill who just participated in a round table/PR op, and “co-authored” an article, with Kate, so Meghan almost certainly knows her as well.

No surprise the pressure’s on for Kate to launch an “ambitious and hugely significant” early years project ASAP. Let’s see what she comes up with this time.

      • notasugarhere says:

Harry’s April (secret) meeting with philanthropist Wallis Annenberg may also bring about big results. Service is universal.

  17. Phoenix says:

    The Keenshot prize 🤣
If there is no problem to resolve how Keen Kate will be seen as a problem resolver or the knight that saved us?

  18. Murphy72 says:

There are developmental milestones that are important and most parents aren’t aware of them. Me included. I worked for a children’s charity for a few years and we did a lot of workshops with experts in this field and I remember thinking how useful they would have been to me as a young parent.

    • Merricat says:

There are so many great books that cover this, as well as workshops, and programs sponsored by hospitals. What is Kate bringing to the table, what new insight, what new ideas?

      • Murphy72 says:

Building awareness for issues many people don’t know about in the first place or possibly even have the time to delve into due to job and other responsibilities. It’s interesting that the focus is often on, getting ready to have a baby, when it comes to parent education, but actual parenting classes that really look at different stages of development, even the teenage stage, should not be overlooked.

I’m not here to gripe about Kate. I just find the topic of the work interesting.

      • Becks1 says:

@Murphy72 – you are right that the topic of work is interesting and while there is a lot of research out there, talking more about actual parenting during the different stages is important and that would be a good campaign. I mean this is an obvious example, but I am in a few moms groups and there are so many questions about “my 3 year old started doing X. Is this normal or should I talk to my doctor?”

I just don’t think that’s what this is. I feel like this is going to be a lot of vague statements about “early years” and that will be that.

    • Sid says:

It might have been useful then, for Kate to have discussed some of those milestones during her event wth Dr. Biden instead of sitting there clueless while Dr. Biden did the heavy lifting. But hey, I’m not British so not my circus, not my clown.

      • Lorelei says:

Why are they acting like she’s been diligently studying psychology behind closed doors for ten years? Isn’t her main responsibility simply to bring attention to her patronages, and to help them raise money in any way she can? She does not need to have “unrivaled insight” into anything.

Diana wasn’t visiting labs and pretending that she was *literally helping scientists and researchers develop a cure for AIDS* behind closed doors, for god’s sake.

It can’t be overstated how influential it was when that photo of Diana hugging an AIDS patient was released. It really took that photo for a lot of people to finally believe that you couldn’t “catch” HIV by touching someone who had it (those same people are probably anti-vaxxers today 🙄).
Scientists had already been telling the public this, but that one picture was more impactful than 100 statements from the CDC would have been.

All they’re asking of Kate is to show up with half a clue and be able to utter one sentence in public without embarrassing the monarchy and she can’t even do that?!

  19. Harla says:

If Kate seriously believes that happy childhoods only create happy adults then how does she square her brothers battle with depression? Or did he not have the same happy childhood that Kate did?

    • Over it says:

Well Kate had to be paid attention to because she was the ticket to aristo lifestyle. Did anyone ever consider that maybe the brother is the way he is because no one paid attention to him. It was and still is all about Karen keen duchess of buttons

      • Nic919 says:

Does Kate seem like a well adjusted almost 40 year old woman? Her behaviour doesn’t scream self actualized happy adult herself.

      • BeanieBean says:

Nic: that’s my thinking. She often references her happy childhood and yet, is she a well-adjusted adult? I don’t think she wants that examined too closely.

  20. S808 says:

    “ambitious and hugely significant”

This is such a trumpian description to me. Coupled with her event with Dr Jill, I don’t think anyone should be holding their breath.

    • Becks1 says:

It’s what we said about Earthshot – you can’t declare your own work to be hugely significant or groundbreaking or whatever. The work has to stand on its own. Meghan didnt say “my issue of vogue is the best!” the sales spoke for it.

    • Lorelei says:

      It is SO TRUMPIAN! Tremendous.

  21. Eleonor says:

    JEEEZZZZ where do we start?
Her own project is so vague and inconsistent…and patronizing.

  22. Becks1 says:

These announcements are always so vague. We’ve been discussing Kate’s “work” in this area for years now and I think most of us are just like….Kate feels sorry for people who don’t have “happy childhoods” like hers? Which is a poor discussion IMO bc the Middletons have all discussed how James struggles with depression – which seems to bolster the idea that we all have mental health struggles (which is true), but goes against Kate’s “early years” work which seems to imply that all future problems are solved by having a happy childhood.

Part of the issue with this work too is that it has to be political. Same with William and climate change. You can’t talk about issues in the early years without addressing poverty, education, I don’t know how race plays a part in the UK but here in the US it is absolutely a factor (when it comes to school districts, what students are taught, how students are disciplined, etc) and so on. How can you address those issues without being political?

    • Merricat says:

It is inherently political. Foresight has never been a strength for the Windsors.

  23. Over it says:

She is giving away a lifetime of shiny buttons because who can be unhappy in any part of life if you have shiny buttons.

Also it’s ridiculous that she thinks that unless you grew up with two parents like her then you are unhappy and will be unhappy for life.

  24. mariahlee says:

Sounds like a research project with probably a Community of Practice. I don’t understand why she couldn’t just curate a portfolio of patronages focused on the early years, and build credibility over time. Why the need to be an early years pioneer *now* with big, ambitious and likely resource intensive projects that prob aren’t worth the opportunity cost? That’s what’s not genuine imo.

    • BeanieBean says:

But she doesn’t have tangible projects, she’s just ‘continuing the conversation’. There’s no product, no deliverables.

  25. Simalu says:

Hugely significant and ambitious — something neither wills nor kate have ever been or done

  26. equality says:

It’s almost like they want to build her up for a fall. What is wrong with bringing attention to the patronages you represent? Why is it necessary to try to build her up? Wouldn’t a landmark study be one that didn’t just ask questions people with search engines could already find the answers to? The Earthshot stuff is annoying too. Will goes on and on about the environment but gets a pass for private planes and helicoptering everywhere. And there are already solutions that with funding would get things going to improve the situation. Why no focus on that? Are there conditions on the prize? Do the funds have to be used to accomplish the ideas or can somebody float an idea, collect the prize and go on a super vacation?

    • windyriver says:

You ask significant questions – but ultimately irrelevant. W&K don’t want to work, but want to look as important as possible. Wasn’t it Will early on who said they’d have fewer patronages, but more intense focus on the ones they had (i.e., fewer patronages, so an obvious excuse to work less)? And maybe that was the original plan. This one though, is even better. As far as I understand, Harry didn’t have many specific patronages – but has substantial projects, such as Invictus, and Sentebale. Invictus in particular has become very high profile, and international in scope. Lightbulb moment for Will/advisors – why not introduce and promote an important sounding (global) initiative, especially one where all you do is give out a prize for work done by others, instead of bothering with even a few pesky patronages where someone might expect you to occasionally show up? Obviously the BM isn’t going to be asking hard questions like yours. Plus, there’s the element of competition Will has re: Harry (remember David Attenborough and the documentary, the set up with the directors chairs – and bench – shortly after the Sussexes Netflix partnership was announced?) and of course, Kate with Meghan. Early Years is her equivalent project to Earthshot, though on a national, not global scale. Didn’t we find out her survey results were based on input from another company, not just whatever came from the big Five Questions, and her big contribution was showing the public pretty charts? We also see overall that Kate apparently feels if she dresses like Meghan (and occasionally like Diana) and sets up her Zoom room like Meghan, etc., she’ll have Meghan’s success.

I’m convinced both Will and Kate have no idea what hard work really is, since neither have been forced to do any their entire lives. I wonder if either of them is puzzled about why things they do don’t have the same impact as H&M, or if they’re so cocooned in the echo chamber of the courtiers and BM that they believe every arrow they launch reaches its target? That sounds like a sad and incredibly boring life, but I guess you’d have to have some curiousity about the world around you to realize something’s missing.

      • Nic919 says:

William wanted to work on big projects so he wouldn’t have to do as many bread and butter engagements. The problem is that he and Kate barely do any work on the big projects. And they focus more on promotion of the project than actually doing anything substantive. It’s all a PR project.

      • Lorelei says:

I said something similar upthread— it’s actually a brilliant plan to be so vague if you don’t want anyone to have any expectations of you. If they never name anything too specific, they can’t be criticized or held accountable when they inevitably never follow through on it because they never told anyone what “it” would actually be.

  27. Brielle says:

I really hope something concrete will come up from Kate..Meghan was coming with tangible things and results..the early years is an important issue but I don’t think royals can solve it cause it’s very complex and it would mean involving politics and with Brexit and Boris and his government shenanigans,I don’t think it would be a priority and it should….I mean Unicef and Marcus Rashford shouldn’t be providing food for hungry children during COVID,the government should but here we are….Maybe Kate will join forces with Marcus….

    • swirlmamad says:

She would never join forces with someone who is driven to work hard and produce results (and a black footballer at that). If she was actually smart she would’ve decided that was the way to go when Meghan was in the RF, and we see what happened there.

      • Brielle says:

You are probably right but Meghan was miles away during COVID crises and her and Harry donated 90000 to feeding Britain and after that supported the call from Evening standard to feed ppl when the establishment of that country seems to loathe her…it’s shameful that a country like Britain can’t feed properly kids from poor families

  28. GrnieWnie says:

That pie chart is hilarious. It’s literally modelling…a percentage. As in, “This is what 76% looks like, in case you didn’t know.”

  29. OriginalLala says:

I’m going to try to borrow a Britishism to explain Kate – Kate is a damp squib.

  30. Ginger says:

I find it insulting that Kate does this kind of work. Meghan was bullied while she was pregnant and had suicide ideation. Kate never asked how she was and refused to correct stories that were untrue. She was part of the smear campaign. She also was incredibly rude at the CW service. She is the worst person to talk about early years or pregnancy. What a fake.

  31. ABritGuest says:

Early years is a tough topic for her really cos the solutions are largely political & tied to things like funding which it’s hard to do much about if royals are meant to be apolitical (although she’s a white royal so may be ok) & they rarely open their own purses. IMHO She’d be much better giving platform to the experts & throwing weight behind fundraising efforts or initiatives for relevant children charities.

Like Marcus rashford isn’t an expert and isn’t pretending to be but he’s campaigned so effectively on free school meals working with fareshare charity & other food banks, has just launched a kids book & has come up with affordable but healthy food programming. will Kate’s upcoming announcement be even half as useful as any of these initiatives or the tips posters here had especially when the pandemic started?

Not sure why KP wants her to sound like an expert or an ‘educator’ like someone called her on Friday when it’s plainly not true. Has she even pointed out her reading in this area?

Hate to do this but compare the Time talk that Meghan& Harry did about misinformation, online abuse etc (hmm wonder why someone is doing round talks now) where they made clear they aren’t experts but could talk eloquently about a book or article they had read on these subjects & then ask the experts to expand incl on possible solutions. I think hosting panels & giving the experts the mike could be so much better& would probably be more comfortable for Kate& still get the photo op.

Side note I think Dawn Porter or somebody said that Harry reads a lot which I found interesting given his alleged dyslexia & Meghan is often talking about a book she’s read. Whereas with Kate her spare time reading was said to be Tatler. I think there’s a lack of curiosity there that even her cousin pointed out.

    • upstatediva says:

ABritGuest, You are right on! — she ‘cannot’ talk about substance if she cannot support efforts to change the early childhood experiences of British children in any substantive way — a la food insecurity, educational access, etc. She should be partnering with charities and entities who already do this work and helping them raise money! The pandemic, the anniversary of Grenfell — plenty of opportunities to link these organizations in the face of real and persistent challenges — to amplify what is making a difference. Instead they continue to create a false crown of expertise for her — to her detriment in my view.

    • sunny says:

I think they both are readers. In his Arm Chair Expert podcast, Harry references some ideas that specific came out of Algorithms of Oppression, referenced Adam Grants recent NYT piece on languishing, etc. It was clear he reads and I vaguely remember Meghan being a reader as far back as the days of pre-Harry and the Tig.

In terms of this Early Years initiative, I won’t hold my breath. These announcements are so vague and Kate and her team have never shown an aptitude for strategy, planning, research, and certainly not implementation. I really wish they would have her cut ribbons and do low pressure visits she has no work ethic and is painfully incurious.

  32. Calibration says:

Keen McButtons needs to find ways to compete with her deceased mil and also her 10 day old niece. Such trash.

  33. swirlmamad says:

Heh. With that poor showing at the “roundtable” with Dr. Jill, you’ll excuse me if I’m not waiting with bated breath to see what this alleged “ambitious” project is. More like “ambiguous”, maybe.

  34. TheOriginalMia says:

The crisis team had to get something out quick after the debacle with Dr. Jill Biden. Criticisms are all over the internet from people saying she is a lightweight and an embarrassment to the monarchy. So, here we are 36 hours later and she’s keening to release her new endeavor soon. Ha. Ha.

  36. TabithaD says:

Dearie me. Is this the best the mighty PR brains of KP can do?
    (1) “Equal to the Earthshot Prize”: I still haven’t a clue what the Earthshot Prize actually does. It has a remarkably low profile. Is it just that Will sits on his backside and hands money to people who actually *do stuff*, then takes the credit? Wow, what a legacy.
    (2) I almost feel story for Lord Hague. He’s an intelligent man and has obviously been instructed to big this thing up, but he’s scrambling about for words and the best he can come up with is that this “actually comes from all the adults she’s met”. What?? What does that mean?
    (3) As for hinting it will be like Diana’s landline campaign. Give me strength. That was a hugely impactful campaign, the effects of which continue to this day. Plus it is far from the only thing she did – I’m thinking in particular of her work with AIDS and HIV. Just a reminder that, when she died, Diana was younger than both W+K are now. And they’re still not even off the starting blocks.
(By contrast, Harry started Sentabale when he was barely out of school.)
    (4) Any real discussion about “early years” is likely to get political. I can’t really see Kate even understanding this, let alone wading into political discussions.
    (5) Sadly for KP, anyone can see Kate is lazy, vapid, unprepared, and out of her depth. This was particularly clear at her G7 engagements with Dr B. Just saying “this is going to be hugely significant’!” doesn’t get you past this.
    (6) Yes it was weird that William was practically nowhere to be seen at G7. There was one photo I saw where it looked like he was sucking his thumb, but that was it. Maybe the powers that be have worked out that he’s become a bit of a liability. (Same with Kate TBH, but she’s dispensable).

  37. SayWhat?! says:

Kate is an expert because she had a happy childhood haha. This makes her less relatable to people and kids with less than idyllic childhoods. A happy childhood doesn’t mean you won’t get depression or go through hard times and in some ways can made you less resilient when you do.
There’s plenty of room for improvement but Kate seems more comfortable with public speaking and I think zoom has helped with that.

  38. Harper says:

Because Kate kept harping on giving people the tools for improving the early years when she was speaking with Jill Biden, I’m going to guess that Kate will be introducing some “tools” to help parents stop the Early Years from going askew. Like a coupon kit with a 10 percent off an admission to her really expensive children’s garden. Or a two-for-one-blowout deal at a pricey salon to help a harried mom feel better about herself. Or a make-at-home chutney kit so that all the socio-economic problems can be washed away with an afternoon of boiling down some fruit. You know, real stuff that she thinks will make a childhood magical, even if the mom is suicidal, the dad is on drugs, or the child is chronically ill–it’s really easy to get over those things if you stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about The Importance of the Early Years.

  39. nicegirl says:

The Keenshot prize is sending me cackling

  40. L4Frimaire says:

At this point it just putting lipstick on a pig. We saw how utterly amateur hour Kate is at that so-called round table with Dr.Biden.

  41. Krista says:

It’s sad as this is a very worthwhile cause that she really could make a difference towards. Instead she has made zero impact. It feels like a real effort for her to have done nothing with all the resources she has accessible to her. You need to work hard to do so little, as she has.

    • L4frimaire says:

How can she make a difference? Her focus is a mile wide and an inch deep. Who has she partnered with and what are the results? What exactly is her early years work even about? Does anyone actually know? There is no there, there.

      • Krista says:

You need to do some reading beyond celebitchy. She could make a huge difference, and your dislike of Kate is either making you biases/blind or unaware of what she is a patron of/events she is apart of that are so closely linked to Early Years (the idea to help families and specifically children have a great start/childhood to help prevent later trauma/issues)

I think it’s intentional Kate has made Early Years as a wide net to include much of what she is already doing- it makes her calendar seem full and like she has a big project.

She COULD have made a difference by expanding on what she is already associated with and connects with her ideas of The Early Years.
Kate has actually done several events and has several patrons that are related to Early Years that she could be doing more with like she did with her Art Coffee book. One patron that fits very well with Early Years related stuff is Family Action. All she has done with them though is meet or attend an event that is not really highlighted in the media. I would love for her to really highlight these organizations and it would be an easy connection to a early Years but she is absolutely working hard to not do so. Which again is what I stated. Compared to say Meghan who does cookbooks and releases clothing- Kate could do these things if she wanted to and it would have made a difference to those organizations/patronage’s and the children/families especially in the early years.

To add on she could partner with the many sports organizations she is connected with to create initiates/programs for families.

There is lots she could do with the resources she has available that would make a difference and help her meet her Early Year ‘goals/mission statement’

And that is why I’m disappointed.

      • Nic919 says:

Do we wait another 10 years for her to do anything beyond shallow PR? Because that’s all that’s been done at this point and she gets praised for it so why would she bother doing more? No one expects her to.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate hasn’t made Early Years anything. Not only has she done no work, none of it was her idea to begin with, and none of it interests her. It was thought up by Catherine Quinn as a response to Meghan’s Together Cookbook. Quinn figured it would be an easy PR win, pose Kate with kids, have a couple events each year. Trouble is, Kate couldn’t even handle that. Quinn left after less than two years, to accomplish things in the charity sector.

      • Becks1 says:

@Krista that is exactly the point L4frimaire is making. Kate could make a huge difference. She has not and she won’t. And please, her patronages are jokes at this point, she never visits, never raises funds for them, they’re closing down. Kate has the position and the resources to make a big difference and she just won’t.

  42. kelleybelle says:

And it looks like it will be something uproariously funny, too!! Can’t wait.

Now they are trying to sell Kate as ambitious? I call BS.
They only ambition she ever had was to drag William to the alter.

  44. Lorelei says:

So, yesterday @Harper transcribed a bit of what she said in her “closing remarks” (lol), and this is it. This is verbatim, and keep in mind that this is Kate WITH notes right in front of her:

“Actually the focus isn’t you know um sort of on on parenting itself but actually how we could give them the tools so that they are having their babies and and raising their children with these greater tools and I think that’s the way that education all the way through the system I think would be really um really powerful.”

But sure, let her teach us more.

    • Ginger says:

Oh my God. That’s awful. I read that three times and had no clue what she was saying

    • Lizzie says:

And they have the gall to call Meghan’s speeches ‘word salad’? This is nonsense.
*It’s not about parenting but it is about having ‘their’ babies and raising ‘their’ children.* I’ve read comments that Keen is dim but wow, here it is out there for everyone to see.
I guess this is why she mumbled, because a grade schooler could probably do better.

    • Lula says:

That’s a content-free statement. I regularly have to read similar tripe from college undergrads you know, like, umm. Just no.

      • Becks1 says:

I was going to say, that was the kind of thing I would write in undergrad or even high school when I did not do the assigned reading and had no idea what to say so I would just string some key phrases together in a big jumble like that. My (HS) freshman english teacher loved it and used to praise me endlessly for it. that’s when I lost respect for her. LOL.

I do think though that even what I used to come up with was better than this lol.

    • Harper says:

@ Lorelei, thank you for bringing my work over to this post. It was a labor of love to transcribe that mess. Kate said a lot more gibberish than what I was able to transcribe, but I had already invested enough of a beautiful day on her mishmash expertise nonsense speak, and I needed to get on with my life. But the above is why I think the next phase of her project will include some kind of tool to foist upon the unsuspecting public.

    • TheOriginalMia says:

What.The.Hell! And they let her speak alongside Dr. Jill Biden, who had a folder full of information and data to share with the panel.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

@Lorelei, Thank you for sharing that, I think. My brain can’t quite process what she thinks she was trying to say. uhm err uhmm. Hope she doesn’t have royal ratchets in mind when she said greater tools. Though they are tools. Kate’s research is defintely lacking.

Instead of making it seem like she is some kind of expert in the this whole thing they should keep her in the wheelhouse of things she does know and make it a fun fundraiser-for kids er uhm, I mean children too.

The Biggest & Best Coloring Book Ever: World Flags in Button Form. All proceeds going to groups that really know what they’re talking about.

  45. Likeyoucare says:

    What happen to william.
Is he having a panic attack, we can barely notice him.
Willie this is all on you when you worked hard to vanquish harry and meghan reputation, all eyes will be on you to carry the royal works. Have fun.

  46. Coco says:

I believe she wants to ensure that rich children grow up to be rich adults and therefore good parents, while poor children grow up to be good nannies.

    • Ania says:

Yeah, she should definitely look at her own children, because they are growing up in hugely toxic institution, with parents who can’t stand each other and one child is favored as chosen to be king…. But they’re rich so I guess it’s ok.

It’s clear Kate is so invested in childhood issues that she probably hasn’t read one book on it or had any reflections on the subject. Her idea is “who the children become” instead of who they are now, like childhood is only some transition period.

And this huge ambitious project will again be only about Kate and what she found out and she’s keen. Nothing will result from this. At this point the research is all there, she can focus on how to put expert’s ideas and solutions at work but hey, that would be work…

  47. betsyh says:

    Kate’s “landmark” study. Hahahahahahahahahhhh!

    • Lorelei says:

      .

      • ElleE says:

@Lorelei you deleted your comment so I will helpfully hijack it😉

Which RF member will be sent to Northern Ireland to engage in some soft diplomacy when the G7 ends and AF1 is wheels up? By all accounts, the DUP did not lay the best foundation for the unavoidable (and really inevitable) checkpoint in the middle of the Irish Sea. So the grace period ends next week for certain goods; even though this was voted on in 2016, it all becomes real next week for NI.
I jest ofc. The BRF has loving ties to Scotland and a cloudy past with NI. Just a stark contrast

  48. Lizzie says:

Just so you all know, I am very excited to announce that I plan to announce that I will be doing something huge and impactful in the near future.
    I just can’t with Cannot.

  49. MangoAngelesque says:

“I have devoted 1 year to each year a child grows between the ages of 1 and 10, and now have come to fully understand the tremendous importance of what children must do in the first ten years of their lives: they must grow. It’s so important for children to spend time growing for ten years in a row, uninterrupted, learning things as they grow. Much like gardens, which I also know how to do, with logs, but logs don’t grow, and children must grow, like gardens, for years, so they can one day be get married and have children, and then they’ll matter because they can help their children and gardens grow, but not rose bushes, those should die, the end.”

  50. Midge says:

She was an Art History major and she has multiple nannies. Am I missing something?

    • Ursaline says:

If she had really cared about at history enough to satisfy a degree, it would be one thing for her to talk about, given her surroundings. But then she’d have to compete with Beatrice and sound like she was awake in class.

Since she doesn’t have that, the pr people must have figured that it’s at least a half -brainer for her to gush about the tools for being the best, most keen of the FFFK mothers.

  51. Laugh or Cry says:

At first, I thought she was dragging her feet to make William and the gang wait, because they made her wait, but now this may be her character. The tragic part is a lot of people need some assistance and this was a missed opportunity (UNICEF is providing food in London, like your literal back yard, COVID…).It didn’t have to be like this. Wow, when I think of all those families who could have benefited from good… Diana’s charities walked in her funeral procession because she aided them to the best of her ability…If you are going to mimic your mother-in-law, mimic THAT, not the outfits! She hasn’t demonstrated work in any form for over 2 decades, unless there truly is an act of God, it will not happen. Such a waste, so much for whom much is given, much is required. I’m floored. Of all the things on planet earth, she cannot find one, just one, true passion project? What a hot waste!!! Beyond tragic.

  52. MerryGirl says:

“her Five Big Questions on the Under Fives survey garnered over 500,000 responses”. Seriously? In a country of 66 million she could only garner 1/2 million? With such an overwhelming and enthusiastic response, let’s get ready for her wow us with another new, more ambitions pie chart.

    • Ginger says:

The sad/ hysterical thing is the survey was open to everyone, not just the UK. So that’s even more pathetic

      • notasugarhere says:

They also didn’t account for repeats from the same stan computer or IP addresses, so it isn’t 500,000 individual responses.

  53. MerryGirl says:

The look of disgust on Bullyiam’s face in that photo. He’s so over her he couldn’t even fake love or admiration on this Scottish tour, could he?

  54. jOoLz says:

fucksake. Keen could have earned a PhD in early childhood development just since she’s been married to TOB. lord knows she’s had plenty of time to study with her light af workload.

  55. Feebee says:

I was thinking how we haven’t seen her doing anything really impactful and then I thought maybe she does all these little things that just don’t make a big splash cos that’s her thing. But then it said she wanted to do something as big as Diana’s landmine project which is of course what people can recall quite easily when thinking of Diana’s major campaigns.

So why hasn’t she? In all this time with so many people around her who know what will “sell”, what will “sell her” to the world in a big, splashy way. Because she does not in any way, shape or form hold a candle to Diana. Either on a superficial level or deep down. I believe William knew this and that’s wanted he wanted and possibly what his father wanted. Not to ever be outshone by the wife.

    • Harper says:

Since William really only had this one long-term relationship and that was with Kate, he literally had no one to compare her to. And Kate kept saying she was ready to hit the ground running. Will could only pick a wife from the subset of women he was in a relationship with, and Kate was the only woman in that group. He never got another relationship off the ground long enough to have good comparative data.

      • notasugarhere says:

William had several relationships before, during, and after marriage to Kate. He made the choice to settle for a business arrangement where he was allowed to wander at will – so long as she got a title in exchange. This was his choice, just as it was her choice to do nothing but chase a cheater for a decade.

      • Harper says:

Will was a cheater and had flings, but as for another longer-term girlfriend that he officially stepped out with and acknowledged publicly, it’s really only been Kate.

      • Feebee says:

He didn’t need to compare her with anyone. He got what he wanted.

      • notasugarhere says:

A woman who will accept all cheating, letting him live life as a single man, give him cover – all in exchange for a title? Trouble is, William has tired of the arrangement and is embarrassed by her. Kate’s on borrowed time.

  56. Anon says:

The Duchess of Pie Charts will strike again! She’s keen…..

  57. Amelia says:

I don’t know if anyone else watched the full round table discussion that took place the other day with Dr. Biden but if you observe, during the entirety of it Kate does this thing (and I’ve noticed she does it all the time) where her head is tilted at some weird 45 degree angle at least 90 per cent of the time and she often gazes off elsewhere. It makes it look as if she’s not paying much attention to what was being said, which is a bit sad really because the discussion was actually quite interesting.
It’s a contrast to Dr. Biden and Meghan as well (since lots of people loooovvee to compare and downgrade Meghan on social media) where both women are straight faced focusing on every word that is being spoken and they don’t fidget either.
I’ll say this for Kate, if her “great idea” doesn’t become a response to the issues the intellectuals in the discussion where voicing towards the end of the round table discussion, then I don’t think there’s really any point. Yes the early years are really important to “giving children the best possible start in life” (Kate loves to say this) but everyone knows that. The whole concept on focusing early development is very complex. It’s not an issue that can only have its focus on small and certain aspects. There’s so much more to think about and work on. KP and Kate have taken a huge bite, but the real question is can they swallow it, or will it remain stuck in their throat (as I feel it I has been so far)
Also what exactly is the full extent to what Kate herself has studied and researched? KP love to throw out that Kate has done so much work on the early years, what does her research into the topic include (and I’m not talking about the survey, that was conducted by ipsos MORI, she just gave her name to it) how much briefing has she read on this? There’s so many journals and resources available. Has she actually utilised any of it? Or is it all for show? It would actually help her image if she was to talk more about that then just blab about how she’s got this “really great idea and it’s going to be super duper ambitious”

    • Nic919 says:

Kate’s early years project is basically Pippa tips for child psychology… I.e. basic obvious shit that everyone already knows. The UK media are pretending it has value but anyone who has studied the area knows Piaget (and here I mean taking first year psych not even a full psych degree is needed for what Kate is taking about) and they all sycophantically act like she’s invented the wheel. It’s North Korea level pathetic behaviour from that group.

  58. Likeyoucare says:

    If i am the courtier.
I will make an umbrella project that combine ministery for children families with private sectors and universities and paste kate face on it.
Every month kate can goes around those places for photo op.
But, i do believe the courtiers are hired for their families connection.
So they goes hand in hand with the BRF, stupid, had no work experience and inbred.
