Jared Kushner got a book deal for his memoir, but Donald Trump has not

Trump Departure for Alamo, Texas

Many of the former Trump administration people have already scored book deals. It sucks. Mike Pence got a multimillion deal for his memoir from Simon & Schuster. Kellyanne Conway also got a book deal post-administration. Most of the book deals were inked before the insurrection, and they were for people who had already left the administration months earlier, because people got out while the getting was good. But that leaves two big names: Donald Trump and Jared Kushner. According to Politico (via Vanity Fair), no major publisher wants to touch Trump’s memoir:

Although the former president has boasted that rights to a memoir about his political career—the “book of all books”—are being fought over by major publishers, and that he has already turned down “very substantial offers” from “two of the biggest and most prestigious publishing houses,” reporters have uncovered zero evidence to substantiate his claims. According to Politico, none of the editors and publishers contacted at the Big Five publishing houses—Penguin Random House, Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Macmillan Publishers, and Simon & Schuster—said they were aware of any such offer. One source was openly “skeptical” of his claims. “He’s screwed over so many publishers that before he ran for president, none of the big 5 would work with [him] anymore,” the source told Politico.

Among other things, fact-checking challenges loom large over the prospect of publishing Trump, given “he can’t even admit that he lost the election,” as one industry figure pointed out to Politico. Moreover, “An exodus of other authors, and a staff uprising in the unlikely event they strike a deal with the former president” are among the host of issues that publishing houses may have to contend with if they choose to acquire a Trump memoir, Javelin’s Keith Urbahn pointed out.

[From Vanity Fair]

All of which means that if Trump’s ghostwriters ever get around to writing his “memoir,” it will likely need to be self-published or published by some smaller publishing house, which will promptly get sued for libel by like fifty different people. I’m not super-worried about this, because I think Trump will be arrested within the next year. But what of Jared Kushner, the moron who orchestrated some of the Trump administration’s biggest disasters?

Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former president Donald Trump and a senior adviser in his administration, has secured a book deal to recount Trump’s presidency. Broadside Books, a conservative imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, announced that Kushner’s book will come out in early 2022. Kushner has begun working on the memoir, currently untitled, and is expected to write about everything from the Middle East to criminal justice reform to the pandemic. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Broadside said on Tuesday: “His book will be the definitive, thorough recounting of the administration, and the truth about what happened behind closed doors.”

[From The Guardian]

I would be interested in reading an honest tell-all account of Jared Kushner’s marriage and his shady business deals and all of that. This memoir won’t be that. It will be Jared lying his ass off and pretending to be busy and important. He won’t even mention his slumlord status. He won’t mention his WhatsApp group with murderer and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Jared Kushner should be getting prison time for his crimes, not book deals. My word this country is so broken and moraless.

    • Shanaynay says:

      I agree. It’s pretty sad.

If there was a “like” button, I’d be hitting it a thousand times for this comment.

    • Snappyfish says:

He does deserve prison. What a lot of people don’t realize is he is playing with people who will slice his head off & toss it in a trash bin. He is playing Qatar against Saudi Arabia & they don’t forget he is Jewish & neither trust him & they despise each other. He was safe when he had the power of the US government behind him. Whatever deals he made on the side (Qatar bailed out his 5th Ave building) if he can’t bring them home he better hope he IS in prison. Of course in some cases even prison isn’t safe

These people need to be held accountable. I fear that only NY will be the ones to bring them to justice.

  2. Scal says:

I’d be willing to bet they can’t find quality ghostwriters either. Goodness knows his word salad would be hard to translate into a book and then he’s not going to pay them.

Publishing houses don’t want that headache or all the libel suits either.

  3. EnormousCoat says:

I don’t know why we are giving these grifting neo-nazis any attention/money/platform. Kushner is a stupid, ineffectual, neo-nazi fluffer. Publishing his memoir is an affront to the dignity and humanity of the people he has harmed. Who gives a single shit how these people think and feel. They are vile.

    • Jais says:

      Neo-nazi fluffer! Love

    • Mac says:

Who wants to read Kushner’s book? MAGAts probably don’t know who he is and definitely don’t care. “Serious” republicans think Kushner is a joke.

      • booboocita says:

My thoughts exactly. Just who does Broadside Books think the audience for this book will be?

      • whatWHAT? says:

eh, just like with Donnie Jr.’s book, some conservative PAC will buy up multiple copies and give them out as a “gift” for making a donation.

  4. Nomegusta says:

Simon and Schuster is such trash. They also were going to distribute the memoir of one of the cops who murdered Brianna Taylor

    • Merricat says:

It’s very sad to see how far Simon & Schuster have fallen. They’ve trashed their literary reputation.

    • Mac says:

Harper Collins is publishing Kushner’s book.

      • Merricat says:

        Oh, no! That’s even sadder.

      • Golly Gee says:

Interesting how they are publishing it under Broadside Books. They are trying to hide their affiliation with Kushner. If the deal was with someone popular, they would be publicizing it under Harper Collins.

  5. Mchica says:

They all need to be boycotted along with their publisher. Did we need Mengele ‘s giving his side of the story for money?

  6. nicegirl says:

My favorite line and the part that’s giving me a big boost is ‘because I think Trump will be arrested within the next year.’ FROM YOUR KEYBOARD to the ears of the universe, thankyouverymuch.

    • smegmoria says:

Will Trump be arrested? Hard maybe. Will he serve any time? Definitely not. I have tried to satisfy myself that a slip into irrelevance and poverty will be enough.

      • booboocita says:

He’s almost there. The Daily Beast reported that he’s been slipping into private events at Mar-a-Lago to bloviate with bemused guests on an increasing basis. He even crashed a memorial service. He just can’t live without attention. I honestly think he’d be happy to do a perp walk just so he’d be surrounded by crowds of reporters to shout at. And while repub candidates have visited Mar-a-Lago to kiss his ring or make obeisance, the number of candidates doing so is dwindling. Irrelevance is just around the corner.

  7. Teebee says:

Trump could totally stay on brand by starting his own publishing company, release his memoirs and shutdown after no one buys it…

    • BeanieBean says:

Somehow or other he might hit up his donors for cash & buy up however many copies of his book that got printed, then donate them to some charity.

  8. Mac says:

Trump might get busted for tax fraud. He will likely have to pay a huge fine, at which point he will declare bankruptcy and default on all of his debts and carry on just like he always has. I’ve given up on justice for powerful white men.

    • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Sadly, I’ve come to believe this, too. He will NEVER serve time. Even if convicted and sentenced, he will tie it up in appeals until he dies, or the Supreme Q-Court acquits him.

I’ve given up on the concept of real “justice”.

    • psl says:

I agree. If Trump or any of them serve time, I will be stunned. Justice does not work that way in this country, sadly.

  9. why? says:

Of course he did, there are absolutely no consequences for actions.

  10. Midge says:

    Jared is hella creepy.

  11. Midge says:

Trump doesn’t read or write. Can you imagine the process of ghostwriting, editing, factchecking and publishing one of his books? I don’t want to.

  12. psl says:

I want to throw up every time I see this man’s face. Or read his name.

    That is all.

  13. Marla Singer says:

Jared is a crooked slime ball, just like his Father! Who cares about this privileged scum!

  14. Valerie says:

lol, that’s gonna piss him off. But Kushner should be in jail.

  15. CHIMES@MIDNIGHT says:

So if Trump cannot get a deal because fact checkers and lawsuits would be all over that like white on rice, dies that mean that Kushner *has* agreed to say Trump unequivocally lost in his book? That’ll make the holidays fun. Picture Trump and Kushner out on a rowboat in the middle of a lake.

(Or he just won’t mention the election at all, but really? Yeah he would have to talk about it).

  16. paranormalgirl says:

He just has the most punchable face.

  17. EM says:

The audacity of this little weasel releasing a book detailing how he and his Father in Law grifted their way into the White House and tried to take the whole country down with them.

Hope his shady business deals in the Middle East come back to haunt him real soon.

  18. HeatherC says:

I hope this book is labeled fiction because nothing actually happened like the Trump crime family think it happened, from the inauguration to COVID to 2020 election.

On another note, every time I see his oh so punchable face, I think of the John Oliver bit, before we’d heard a lot of his voice, JO had dubbed Gilbert Gottfried. It was hilarious.

  19. Mel says:

He doesn’t need free advertising for his memoirs in which he’ll either throw people under the bus while he feigns innocence or write himself into an indictment.

  20. The Recluse says:

And Drumpf is going to resent the he!! out of Kushner for getting what he can’t.
I hope they all go to jail.

  21. SusanRagain says:

C’mon man, no need to harvest trees to make paper to print this guys book.
Save a tree and yourself a headache do not give $$ to buy this book.
