All of my friends who have been pregnant and smokers have been advised by their doctors to reduce the amount they smoked over a few weeks as a gradual withdrawal as opposed to 'cold turkey'. They have been told this is less stressful on both baby and mother. Hopefully if she is pregnant she is cutting down and eventually quitting. It may not look good (I dont support smoking), but for all we know she is in fact doing the right thing. I think I may have already posted this -
