Sherri Shepherd, 54, has been on a health kick for quite some time. Sherri was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2007. In a new cover interview for People Health, Sherri said she got serious about her health, because she wanted to be able to keep up with her son, Jeffrey Jr, 16. Sherri recently lost 20lbs and she feels healthier than ever and more energetic. Below are a few highlights from People:

Sherri Shepherd has a new outlook on her health after living with diabetes for more than a decade…

“I had this vision of my son at 5 years old, holding his teddy bear, and he was crying because he was trying to figure out where heaven was, because that’s where everybody said mommy was,” Shepherd recounts. “And that woke me up. Anything about my son… I jolted up, and I said, ‘I’ve got to make a change, because I don’t want to die.'”

She adds that her son “motivates me every day,” helping her eat healthy and maintain her fitness. “So, he always encourages me. And I’m encouraged also because I get to do more things with him, and I have more energy,” Shepherd says.

“At 16, you need your brain. It’s a whole different thing dealing with a teenager. You’ve got to be two steps ahead of them, and you can’t do it when you’re in a fog,” she continues. “And so, just keeping up with him, I have to have energy, and that motivates me as well.”

“Diabetes, that diagnosis, has made me live again, because otherwise, I just would have been eating nonstop and not thinking,” Shepherd adds.

After her recent weight loss and her 54th birthday, Shepherd says she’s “peaking,” as she feels better than ever. “This is literally the best I’ve ever felt,” she muses. “I feel better now than I did in my 20s, I really do.”

[From People]

Sherri looks amazing and not just because she lost weight but because she looks so happy. She’s glowing and looks like she’s living her best life. I saw that Sherri partnered with HealthyWage to help people win prizes for losing weight. Incentives can be a good motivation tool. It is beautiful that Sherri said her son motivates her to be healthy because she wants to be around for him. Sherri said in an earlier interview that she smashes her potato chips and puts coffee grinds on them so she doesn’t eat them, which made me gigglw. Sometimes we have to go to extremes until we build our self control. Currently I am just trying not to buy the bag of chips when they call out to me in the store. Sherri at 54 seems stronger and more carefree. I hope she has many more years of health ahead of her. Seeing the results of Sherri’s weight loss is seriously motivating me to get this COVID 20 off.

Didn’t she bail on her adoptive son when her marriage fell apart? This is rich!

    • Oh_Hey says:

Right? In addition to being a bigoted mess while on the view. Just…why do we care about her again?

    • BlueSky says:

They had a baby via surrogate I think.
He has custody and she pays child support if I remember correctly but has nothing to do with the child.
Yeah, she’s a piece of work.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Wasn’t it a situation where her (now) ex husband arranged for his *current* gf to be the bio mom/surrogate mother, and they’d get Sherri to end up paying for THOSE TWO to have THEIR child together? Sherri would be the mom on paper only, and he’d divorce her and get spousal/child support for 18 yrs. to finance the ex and his current gf/love child.

Frankly, if I found out my ex was doing this to me, gaslighting me about our marriage/love/wanting a family, I’d kick his ass out and wouldn’t feel that I had to support him OR HIS (and the other gf/woman’s) child, too. That’s not fair or right.

    • Cj says:

I’m pretty sure she had said she didn’t want to proceed with the surrogate because the marriage was in trouble and her ex did it anyway without her approval. I remember reading it on this site when it happened. It felt manipulative on his part to either force her to stay in a miserable marriage or ensure he got a payday.

      • AJ says:

That is how I remember it too. Her ex husband saw having the child as a way to get paid.

    • BnlurNforever says:

It was a surrogate situation that was shady as heck because the ex was being sneaky and seeming to set up a situation where he created the family he wanted and get Sherri to foot the bill. He apparently was the biological father and his ex was the biological mother and birth mother. It was not a good deal and it seems she was definitely taken advantage of, which she has to just deal with. Of course she didn’t handle it well because she doesn’t seem very bright and now she’s having to pay child support on a child she is not connected to in anyway. She walked away from the situation before the child was born and attempted to avoid financial responsibility and had to be forced to pay child support. Listen, she was conned but the innocent child shouldn’t pay for that, so I agree with her paying for child support.

Sherri herself from what I can recall says some of the stupidest things I’ve heard anyone in modern times say. She said once that she still believes the world is flat and it’s been difficult to take her seriously since hearing her say that. There’s been other asinine things she’s said, but that’s the one that sticks out. Hopefully, she has gotten smarter about the world and no longer holds these education challenged views.

      • AJ says:

Goodness, it was more insidious than I realized.

      • Soupie says:

It’s an interesting issue, whether we like entertainers or not. Sometimes I feel like canceling someone because I feel they are being asinine or ridiculous. Like with Ben Affleck and JLo. I like them in their respective crafts, but I cannot stand them as people. There are many other celebrities about whom I feel that way.

With Sherry, I have a little more compassion. I don’t know why. We all know this kind of thing is subjective and often random.

      • lucy2 says:

I like her a lot as a comedic actress, she was great on 30 Rock and I really loved her on Trial & Error, but as a person she seems a bit much.

Where are you seeing that the surrogate was his ex girlfriend? I don’t see that anywhere online.

      • Pix says:

Yes, this is how i remember it. She was taken advantage of and she’s paying for it every day. Sad situation but i’m glad she is taking care of herself.

      • Cora says:

None of this is relevant for me. A sane adult wanted to bring a child, the child is here. Period. You dont get to return a human being.

    • Ctgirl says:

Yep and she’s awful in other ways.

  2. Mcmmom says:

I have been doing Noom – I lost my Covid weight plus a few more pounds. I’m about 3 pounds from my goal weight. I definitely feel better! It’s motivated me to try some new things, including training for a baby triathlon in the Spring.

  3. Soupie says:

Wow you guys. So people aren’t allowed to change? Isn’t that why we criticize them in the first place, so maybe they’ll get better and do better?? I love Sherry. I think she’s a hoot and I’m really happy for her and her son.

  4. Tursitops says:

So, just be there for the one son, then? And she wasn’t a good enough reason to make these choices on her own? Maybe now she can spend some time learning the basics of the American electoral process, such as the general election date.

    • Soupie says:

      @cora and @tursitops
You ARE aware that (1) Sherri Shepherd does not have a biological connection to the 2nd child, (2) she did not want the surrogacy to take place as she was already contemplating divorce and (3) it is purported by some that it was a scam by her then husband and his alleged girlfriend in order to basically grift her?

      @lucy2
I am convinced that we don’t know the full story, and I don’t believe it’s necessary to be on the internet in order to be believable. (Not trying to be sarcastic.)

We just don’t have all the facts. What I remember is that Sherri was not happy with that dude prior to and during that whole issue of the surrogacy.

  5. Cora says:

She is, in my eyes, despicable. You dont abandon your children. It’s gobsmacking to me that she got away with it, that her career was untouched.

    • kd says:

let us not leave out her first ex-husband (who also gets support from her) is friends with the second, coached him how to con her. she shares custody of her son with him. I’m not angry with Sherie, the story is awful that she pulled herself out of a deep depression and continues to choose life is remarkable.

      • Meg says:

        Jesus thats disgusting!

      • Soupie says:

        @kd
Thank you. Plausible scenario. It’s to her credit that she survived all that and is thriving. Let the despicable have the child HE wanted so he could cash in.

  6. godivalady says:

well this is a fatphobic mess.
