Jamie Lee Curtis reveals that her youngest child is transgender

Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest have two children. Their oldest child, Annie, 34, is a dance instructor. Their second child is 25 and Jamie just told AARP The Magazine that she has come out as transgender. Ruby, who is a game editor, is engaged and plans to marry next year with Jamie officiating. Jamie told the publication that watching her son become her daughter has filled her with pride. People has more.

Jamie Lee Curtis is proud of her youngest child for coming out as transgender.

In her cover story for AARP The Magazine’s August/September 2021 issue, the 62-year-old actress said that she and husband Christopher Guest, 73, “have watched in wonder and pride as our son became our daughter Ruby.”

Describing her life as a “constant metamorphosis,” Curtis told the outlet that Ruby, 25, works as a computer gaming editor while her oldest child, 34-year-old daughter Annie, is currently married and works as a dance instructor.

Ruby and her fiancé now have plans to get married next year during a wedding that the Knives Out star will officiate.

And though Curtis doesn’t currently have any grandchildren between her two kids, she told AARP The Magazine that she and Guest “do hope to” have them sometime soon.

Admittedly I don’t follow Jamie religiously, but I don’t remember her talking much about her kids at all. My guess is that, growing up in the shadow of famous parents herself, she probably was more conscious of their privacy. And it sounds like both Annie and Ruby chose the private sector, and avoided the spotlight. So, this is the first I’ve heard about Ruby’s coming out. But how lovely to hear about it in such a joyful and supportive message. It doesn’t surprise me. Unfortunately, Jamie knows firsthand what it’s like to have a parent (her father) not be there for her. I imagine she and Christopher prioritized their kids.

I’ve said this before, but I’d like to say again how grateful I am as a parent for those who’ve blazed trails in the LGBTQ community. They’ve made it so much safer for my daughter to live her whole life openly. I know how lucky I am to not have that dread of what might happen when she walks out the door. Public figures like Jamie proudly declaring their devotion for their child’s journey may make it easier for transgender kids tomorrow.

Completely superficial but I love that Jamie’s officiating Ruby’s wedding. If she were doing mine, I’d hire a Michael Myers to come loping down the aisle during the “does anyone have any objection” part. She’d start her Laurie screaming as I haul a flamethrower out of my bouquet.

    I like Jamie Lee.

  4. Keats says:

    I love the name Ruby.

    • Esmom says:

Same. I once read a novel about twins, Ruby and Pearl, connected even as one didn’t survive.

Anyway, I am not surprised to hear of Jamie being supportive. Loving your kids unconditionally is the best give you can give and as Hecate says, it benefits everyone.

      • Steph says:

What was the name of the novel?

AMEN! Love is love and as parents we should want our children to know and have all of the love possible!

        @Steph

I think @Esmom is referring to a V.C. Andrews series?
        The Landry series, I believe

I’m not surprised either and she seems like a cool person to me. I’ve loved reading Sally Fields son Sam’s stories about how supportive she and family were/are.

      • Margsy says:

This is Behind the Scenes of the Museum by Kate Atkinson. It’s amazing.

I’m not surprised by her acceptance of her daughter. I’ve always gotten the vibe from her live and let live. Plus, there used to be some pretty nasty rumors about Jamie, herself, back in the day and that probably informed how she handled Ruby’s transition.

Hecate, even if it’s a vow renewal, please have that wedding and invite me.

    • Courtney B says:

I won’t mention those rumors, just like you didn’t, because they were vile. Not because of what they were alleging but how they were used to attack and why. It’s like accusing a married man of being gay. Being gay isn’t wrong but it’s being used to insinuate their marriage is fake, they’re living a lie, certain traits aren’t traditionally masculine enough etc.

I freaking love Jamie Lee can’t wait for Halloween kills

Jamie seems like such a lovely and down to earth person. Always wonderful to hear of supportive parents and family.

    Awesome!

  9. Case says:

She seems like a really cool person. Good for her that she let her kids grow up out of the spotlight and they have their own lives separate from Hollywood now.

Our 13 yr old son came out as trans this year, and it’s really been a time of transition for our family as well. Not always easy, especially for my husband who grew up in a more somehow conservative quebecois family open to the LG but not the T… All these stories this year about actors and figures we love being openly supportive of their diverse families has actually helped a lot in terms of ‘modeling’ the behaviours and attitudes, especially when some of our neighbours though they aren’t openly bigoted, they are quietly so…

    • Renee says:

My 12 year old daughter just came out at trans also. I think the most difficult part for me to “accept” (my daughter never has to worry about me accepting her) is that she may always feel a sense of unfairness or sadness that she wasn’t born the biological sex that she identifies as. I worry what that will do for her mental health, even with a family that nothing but supportive. I love hearing about transgender adults who are happy and satisfied with their lives.

  11. Denver C says:

Christopher Guest has always been aggressively private about his children and only ever grumpily answered questions. lol

  12. I LOVE HER says:

AAAAAHHHH! She’s so fucking cool. I love famous parents publicly accepting their LGBT children, especially the transgender ones.

As a transgender and bisexual person this fills me with so much joy.
