You probably have a lot of time to sit around at the Olympics, and it’s probably very soothing to knit. Maybe I should take it up.
It’s a fantastic meditation. I knit all kinds of things and over the lockdowns I have been knitting scarves and hats for the homeless. I have stacks of them waiting for the cold weather so I can hand them out from my car.
Knitting is great. You’re never stuck waiting with nothing to do. Also, if a restless type person like I am, it gives you something to channel all the fidgets into, and at the end of it you have socks or a chunky hat or a fabulous 1950s style cardigan. Which is much more constructive than picking the sofa to bits, which is what I’d be doing if I didn’t knit.
Wow, he’s a determined knitter – stranded knitting in the medal cozy and it looks like a sweater with an intarsia pattern? If you love knitting, then you never get impatient with delays. The bus is late, appointment rescheduled, judges taking too long to post a score? Great, an opportunity to knit a few more rows.
Happy that Simone feels well enough to compete. I wish the best for her, whatever the outcome.

I had a neighborhood cat do that to me in my driveway. He would not move and I was blocking cars as I was trying to turn. I had to pick him up and move him out of the way. Everyone sitting in their cars waiting were cracking up. I have a feeling he’d done the same thing to them too. LOL

I’ve followed Tom Daley’s youtube channel for a long time and he is a really good knitter! He made his (Oscar winning) husband a really cool cardigan for Christmas. They are an adorable family.
Yes! I bring my knitting everywhere with me. I was at a pool with some of my husbands work people once- someone said “you’re just going to sit here and knit?”

At least that guy could drive around the cat. There was a road where I lived in Charleston, had a little bridge over a creek full of alligators. On sunny days they would stretch across the 2 lane bridge, completely blocking it. You had to sit there in your car until DNR showed up or the alligator decided to move on it’s own.
Weird question, but can you bring knitting needles in your carryon luggage on a plane?
I’ve never had an issue with my knitting in my carry-on (European flights only, haven’t been in the US for ages) . To avoid trouble with over zealous security personnel, I make sure to have interchangeable needle tips.
Yes you can. I’ve had no trouble, and I’ve been bringing needles on planes with me since 2002. Bring bamboo ones if you’re worried, but I’ve never even had them scrutinized.
I’ve flown from Canada to Scotland knitting the entire time and no one said a peep. At the Glasgow airport on one of my return flights, my needles were taking from me before I got on the plane. I think it all depends on the whether the security guard’s granny was a knitter or not.
After 9/11 there was a time you couldn’t and I remember people saying you can technically knit with 2 ballpoint pens.

Seems to be an ‘it depends’. Different policies for different countries and airlines. I took a sock project with the most non-threatening needles possible from NZ to Australia, Air NZ were totally cool with it, but the Aussies wouldn’t let me take the same needles back on the plane to return home, I had to take them out of the sock and surrender them.
Can totally understand them not allowing metal straight needles, but most are OK with circulars or small double-pointed these days.
As a fellow yarnie (crocheter, here; just can’t quite get the hang of knitting as much), I’ve never related more to an Olympian. Any time is the right time for some yarn work 🙂
