Gwyneth Paltrow: ‘I want to show up for myself in a more loving way’

Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian, Kris Jenner, and more attend the SNL afterparty at Zero Bond!

Gwyneth Paltrow is currently shilling hard for her new Netflix series, Sex, Love & goop. The docu-series follows real-life couples exploring sex therapy, BDSM, toys, intimacy, etc. Gwyneth is not part of one of the couples, nor is she the self-styled sex therapist, although I think she conducts some of the interviews, probably enough to roll her eyes and claim that she invented reverse cowgirl. Speaking of, Gwyneth is the second cover of this week’s issue of People Magazine. That’s right, Prince William gave People an exclusive interview and photos and everything, and they still devoted a second cover to Gwyneth. LMAO. Some highlights from Gwyneth’s People interview:

She still struggles with body image at the age of 49: “Unfortunately, we’re always looking at ourselves with a critical eye. I would love to get to a place where I don’t do that anymore. I want to show up for myself in a more loving way, because it’s all going south from here! There’s nothing we can do about it.”

Her body changed after she had her first child. “I was just coming out of my 20s when you’re in that sexy, young girl phase. And then you’re like, ‘Well, how do I reconcile who I am now with that?’ For me, it was really about giving myself time to be a mother, and letting my body dictate where it was going.”

She had to realize that she still had unrealistic expectations: “We have all these expectations. Some women feel when they have kids that they don’t feel sexual because their body isn’t back yet. But it’s like, ‘Who said our bodies have to look a certain way?’ It’s hard as you age and change. But it’s about bringing a wider spectrum of acceptance. For me, as I go through the aging process and really start it, I realize it’s less about, ‘Oh, I have this wrinkle, am I going to fix it or not?’ and more, ‘Do I feel vibrant?’”

Where her focus is now: “I am focusing more on the fundamentals of wellness, like meditation, hydration, nutrient-dense foods and not having tons of alcohol, which I had way too much of during the pandemic!”

She wouldn’t go back: “I would never want to go back to my 20s, or even my 30s for that matter. I know myself, I like myself and I am so grateful for the wisdom that comes with age.”

[From People]

She wouldn’t go back to her 20s or 30s? Bullsh-t. Come on. Now, I would prefer to go back to 21-22 years old with the mind and wisdom I have now. I could f–king rule the world if that happened. I don’t doubt that Gwyneth really went through a tough time with how she saw herself and her body image post-pregnancy. She’s rewriting that time too, which is something we all do, but it’s even crazier considering that she was Goop-blogging about her endless juice cleanses, fad diets and Tracy Anderson workouts. Tracy Anderson, who publicly trashed Gwyneth’s post-pregnancy body in interviews. I still remember. So, I feel sorry for Gwyneth that she still struggles with body image, but we kind of knew that already because of 15 years of well-documented disordered eating, disordered fitness, fatphobia and, oh right, Gwyneth built an entire business out of telling rich white women that they need to lose weight.

Can this woman be any more pretentious? I think not. And what demographic relates to her/finds her appealing?? I guess white, over 40 females who are equally as shallow and vapid.

    • Annaloo. says:

She’s a faux feminist who doesn’t pay her staff. She’s in a cage of her own making with body image, and her demographic of gullible rich white women (and the women who want to be gullible rich white women) marches on.

If I want sex advice, I probably want it from JLo

If I want grace advice, I probably want it from Angelina Jolie

If I want skincare advice, I probably want it from anyone who doesn’t have a chicken fried chest like Gwyneth

    • minx says:

She dropped out of college after one year. College isn’t for everyone, no big deal, but I think it bothers her and she tries to compensate with pretentious speech. It’s also more of a problem for her with GOOP, which crosses the line from simple lifestyle tips into wellness, science, health, etc. When it comes to advice about what I put into my body, and what it will do, I want someone with real credentials, not her.

    • Bethany says:

Best comment I’ve read all day. 🙂

  2. Becks1 says:

So if I didn’t know this was Gwyneth, I would be nodding along in agreement with most everything she is saying. I don’t really want to go back to my 20s or even my (almost gone) 30s*. Sure, there are some things I may wish I had done differently (mostly financial to be honest) but I’m pretty okay with where I am today so there’s nothing major I do over. It’s weird to think about too, how changing one thing would change the whole trajectory of my life and I’m sure i’d be okay with that trajectory, maybe, but I like this one.

I would also love to be less critical of my body and to be more focused on how I feel and less focused on “oh god is that a new wrinkle?” That’s of course easier said than done.

Of course though all of that is overlooking Goop and how it seems to be focused on wellness = being skinny etc, which isn’t really consistent with her comments here. So like I said, if you didn’t tell me this was Gwyneth, I would be nodding along for the most part, but because it is her, I have to roll my eyes a bit.

That said – she looks good on the cover AND I love that William got bumped off. Didn’t they bump off the Cambridges last time they were on it for something else? Or do they always have multiple covers now to see which sells better?

*did you guys know I’m about to turn 40? I feel like I’ve been mentioning it 5 times a day, can you tell its weighing on me, LOL.

    • Driver8 says:

Eh, 40 is nothing. Wait til you hit 50, then shit really hits the fan, lol! I hope you have a wonderful birthday!!

      • Becks1 says:

It’s not until February LOL. I’m not even that concerned about it, like I’m not upset about it or anything, but I did notice that all of a sudden I’m talking about it all.the.time so it must be in my head more than I realized.

      • Suzybontime says:

        Yessss to that.

      • Driver8 says:

It’s a major milestone, especially for women. It can be wonderful. You know who you are and lose all the fucks. It’s freeing!

      • Joanna says:

        @driver8
I’m so scared of turning50. Sob

      • Mac says:

Aside from all the aches and pains, being over 50 is great. People think you’re wise and listen to you, even if you are talking total shite.

    • NCWoman says:

My unasked for advice: Establish a really strong skincare routine if you don’t already have one. It’s not turning 40 or 50 or any age. It’s you driving your car and one day you look up into the rear view mirror and see weird wrinkles on your neck or that the always large pores on your nose are craters or something weird. It will freak you TF out. In my experience, you don’t have to spend a lot of money (my biggest expense is now a neck tightening cream lol), but you do have to be extremely consistent with your skin care.

    • D says:

A little anecdotal tidbit…for a few months leading up to my 40th I was stressing out and talking about how old I was feeling. I cried every day for the week leading up to my birthday. Fast forward a month and it turns out I was unexpectedly pregnant. I thought it was menopause. I’m convinced it was the universe’s way of telling me to get over this “I’m old” idea. 40 is still very young and you have decades left to live a full and amazing life. I’m almost 49 and 50 is creeping up. I’m trying not to do the same thing for that birthday especially because there is no way I could have another pregnancy!!!

    • Merricat says:

40 is prime time–you’re more experienced, you’re wiser, stronger, less bothered by the extraneous noise that goes on around you–and you still look great!
I also got pregnant at 40. Lol.

      • Becks1 says:

So Merricat and D – now your comments have me terrified, LOLOL! No more babies here, please! (I actually would love a third but don’t think my husband is on board, he turns 40 on Sunday so in his honor we got a rescue pup last weekend, lol.)

but that’s always been my thing with 40 – I wasn’t afraid of it, I was kind of looking forward to it, to getting over the hump of turning 40, so to speak, and getting older in general has never worried me.

But I have noticed that lately on here i’ve been mentioning it like every day so I guess its somewhere in my psyche as a negative 😂

    • Jaded says:

Becks1 — I guarantee you’ll love your forties. I loved turning 40, my forties rocked and I really came into myself. I’m now in the last year of my sixties — it’s been a wonderful but challenging decade — big life changes, some good, some bad (breast cancer), but I reunited with the love of my life and am loving retirement. I’d never go back to my 20s or 30s for that matter unless I could take all the wisdom, experience and strength I now have.

  3. Joanna says:

So People has Gwyneth as their lead story instead of Colin Powell? SMH.

  4. simalenkie says:

What a load of tosh. I cannot stand her, truly and really. She is a beautiful woman who clearly has no touch, sense or responsibility to those around her, for those people who work for her, to those people to whom she owns this immense fake and utterly wasteful brand she has built. What difference does it make how people look? Look what we have just been through. Thank G-d I am healthy and can walk on my two legs and enjoy nature and enjoy fresh air. Thank G-d we have each other still after this horrid pandemic. Hate her tonedeaf attitude towards everything. She looks great, no one is judging this competition, now shut the hell up and go away.

  5. girl_ninja says:

She should show up in a loving way and pay her employees fair wages.

    Pretentious selfish woman.

    • Margot says:

My thoughts exactly. Is she trolling us or was this interview done before the revelations of employees leaving in droves due to burnout and low pay?

    • Annaloo. says:

Amen. Enough loving yourself, start loving (and respecting) the burned out people working for you that you are underpaying, Gwyneth Paltry

  6. Merricat says:

I also would not go back to my 20s or 30s, since those years really did lead me to where I am now, and I like where I am now.

    • Lyds says:

Fully agree! Also I am starting to feel super old (Elder Millennial here) because I’m starting to freak out about young people and their habits and am so thankful “this-and-that” wasn’t around when I was in my 20s. Not sure how this hypothetical time-warp would work (are you literally going back in time and reliving your twenties, or are you a 20 something in this day and age?), but if I had all the time and wisdom I have now in a 20 plus year old body, what good would that do? Career-wise, yes, I could kill it (or would love to think I could, but experience on the resume still counts for more than what you “know”), but personal life?? I would probably end up with someone my husband’s age because I really have NOTHING in common w 20 somethings today…

  7. Monica says:

I would love to be all philosophical about time passing (and on a good day I am), but I’d go back to 24 in a hot minute if I could take my hard-earned lessons with me. That said, I am mostly content in my 60s these days.

    • Jaded says:

Me too — I call my sixties my “no more fucks to give” decade.

    • Twin falls says:

I’d go back to my 30s in a hot minute. I looked better and felt better that decade than any other – I just didn’t know it at the time.

  8. Holland S says:

It just struck me as being completely bizarre that we ask overly privileged people questions about their lives. She was born on third base; her struggle is not the same as a poorer person with complex issues and traumas. Why are we pretending that she has more life advice to give than someone who has been through the worst life has to offer.

If I want to know where the best spas are—ask Gwyneth. If I want advice relevant to my personal ife issues—do not ask Gwyneth.

    • Annaloo. says:

I definitely agree with your points. Gwyneth is also a self appointed lifestyle expert, but she sure does complain and whine a lot for someone claiming to have answers for any group

Oh, and Gwynnie: pay your workers! You have a diverse workstaff- you wrap your self in them on your social media- stop fulfilling the stereotype of paying PoCs less than what they are worth

  9. WithTheAmerican says:

She looks so natural and fresh. But she’s not a natural blonde. Her tan isn’t natural. Her face isn’t natural. Her weight isn’t natural. She’s a fraud selling a lie. It’s harmful to women. I don’t believe a word she says.

  10. Annaloo. says:

I don’t know anyone who loves Gwyneth more than herself, so I don’t know how or why whe wants to show up in a more loving way

Yes she wants to go back to her 20s and 30s.bc lawd knows she still name drops her life and the people from those days (eg: when does she give up a chance to mention she dated Brad Pitt?)

Ms Paltry needs to pay her workers more, but I doubt Goop is turning a profit. It’s been over a decade and it still needs series funding

  11. Coco says:

This is the same women that sells eating disorders and profits off it.

I feel sad that Goop is push her body insecurities onto other women and making money from it, while not paying her employee a living wage,

  12. Barbie1 says:

Her kids are pretty/adorable. That’s the only good thing to say about her.

    • Annaloo. says:

They’re going to be adorable until the nepotistic world of media starts handing them all the credits and all the access and everything-and-anything success only because they are celeb-spawn. I realize that even that carries its own unique set of problems for famous rich kids to only understand, but yeah, her kids are probably the only good thing to say about her.

  13. Arpeggi says:

She spent more than a decade shaming women that weren’t super thin and having ED, telling them they should hate themselves and their bodies and that their only way to deserve some love and regards was to join hers/Tracy Anderson’s quackery businesses. So yeah, the whole “I should have been gentler to myself” is freakin’ rich.

  14. Normades says:

I think she’s doing this because the most popular episode of goop lab was with sex therapist Betty Dodson (rip). I wish they had done a series just with her but she passed away last year. I did not watch goop lab, but I did watch that episode which was great because Betty was great.

  15. Lane says:

More mumbo jumbo from Gwennie’s asylum. I doubt she even listens or edits her own tripe. Go away, you pompous twit.

  16. Gigi LaMoore says:

I will be 50 in January. I feel and look pretty good. I am cool with my age and who I am. I would like to go back to how it was when we actually communicated and cared about each other. Technology and social media have diluted the ability to build genuine and strong connections with people. Families and friends get together and most are more invested in their phone than listening and connecting with each other.
