Dionne Warwick dragged brands on Twitter, shunned KFC and mayo

Last week, Dionne Warwick sent out a tweet to get thirsty brands to reply. Of course account managers could not pass up the opportunity to engage with Auntie Dionne and her 500k followers. She responded by dragging them and some of the tweets were hilarious.

In a response to Mall of America, who promised that the next time Dionne visited they’d make sure there was no mayonnaise around, Auntie Dionne asked for the promise in writing. She seems to have a strong dislike for white people’s mustard.

So they did:

But Seinfeld wanted to know what Dionne’s beef with mayonnaise was about:

The reason? Blame it on Hellman’s whose account she blocked earlier this month for suggesting we should put mayo in our coffee. She did unblock them so they could participate though.

Skittles thought it would be fun to wade into the mayonnaise melee:

The one that made me laugh the hardest was when Chuck-E Cheese responded to Dionne’s request with “Hey Queen.” Dionne asked them to stop changing the mouse. Listen I felt that in my soul. The new mouse is creepy but to be fair, so was the old mouse.

Bankrate decided it would borrow some of Cardi B’s lyrics. Dionne demanded that they cut Cardi a check.

Dionne also wanted to know what was in Subway’s Tuna (inquiring minds want to know, but it’s real) and what was Oreo’s weirdest flavor (the Mayoreo is not it ya’ll):

And of course KFC decided to hit below the belt with this one:

Church’s chicken said they’d never disrespect Ms. Dionne is such a manner:

KFC was definitely on a roll but not a buttered one:

At the end of it all, it would seem Auntie Dionne had a good time despite KFC slinging dirt:

Going through this thread had me giggling and Dionne’s responses were classic. I swear a much younger person is running that account, and Dionne’s niece did help her in the beginning. But as I have written before, Dionne has made it quite clear that the account is 100% her and her alone.

Dionne Warwick has definitely kept me laughing this year on Twitter. I am glad to see these brands also jump in and have fun. I love that everyone was in on the plot and just enjoyed the banter between a legend and her fans. I hope to see more of this sort of content on my Twitter feed. Sometimes Twitter and social media as a whole can get quite heavy. But leave to the legendary Dionne Warwick to bring us the sort of entertainment we did not know we needed. In the mean time, good luck to KFC and all those mayo companies, I am sure they will need it after that dragging.

This is hilarious! My sweetie is Arabic and drags my love of mayo. He calls it white people’s food.

I donā€™t get peopleā€™s hatred for mayo. Of course I use mayonnaise for things like ā€œadding body to the pasta salad vinaigretteā€ and ā€œtuna saladā€ not ā€œruining coffee.ā€

Mayonnaise makes a great chocolate cake, too.

We never had mayonnaise in the house when I was a kid and it always kind of grossed me out when I would have it. My mom liked Miracle Whip so I’d rather choose that if I had to have white spread on a sandwich. I grew up in a town with German and Polish immigrants so mustard, especially mustard mixed with horseradish, is my sandwich spread of choice.

      • Betsy says:

Ha! We were a ā€œmixedā€ household – both Miracle Whip and mayonnaise. I thought for years I hated mayo because I thought MW and mayo were the same thing. Nope; I just donā€™t like the saccharine flavor of MW.

I put both mayo and mustard on my sandwiches; especially when I send a sandwich to school as a bulwark against dry bread. I should probably just use a little butter but even the spreadable kind has to soften a bit.

        @ Betsy

Wait Miracle Whip isn’t mayo? Honestly never knew that. I use them interchangeably.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

I’m not a fan of mayo or Miracle Whip. With your husband. Opposite in our house-husband loves mayo. Not enough to put it in coffee though. Ewww. I’m still grimacing over Molly Yeh’s? popcorn salad. My beloved popcorn mixed with mayo.

      Dionne’s twitter is really funny.

LOL at bringing up the Chuck E. Cheese Mouse. A friend dated a guy a long time ago that was a Chuck E. Mouse. He resembled a rat out of costume.

Dionneā€™s niece runs her Twitter account. Sheā€™s doing an awesome job.

    • ME says:

Yeah I was gonna say someone else is running her account, you can tell. She’s doing a great job though !

  4. detritus says:

    Sheā€™s such a gem.

Also, as a white person, I do not take responsibility for Hellmanā€™s tweet. mayo in coffee is a step too far. Many steps too far.

This is so funny and kinda makes me sad Iā€™m not on Twitter as much anymore. Iā€™ve cut back on social media for my mental health. I stopped using fb a long time ago but was regularly on Twitter and insta.

    • MarcelMarcel says:

Iā€™m on a 30 day social media cleanse. I was only actively use insta and I miss the pretty pictures. But itā€™s done wonders for my mental health. I had to log in today to get my tattoo artistā€™s phone number and I just felt immediately overwhelmed even tho I wasnā€™t scrolling or checking DMs.
Itā€™s reassuring to hear someone else has cut back on social media for mental health. Most of the people I know are so active on it.

    • yep says:

I haven’t been on social media for 5 years and I don’t feel I’ve missed a thing. Sure, sites like Pinterest or Instagram require an account to browse properly, but I wasn’t active on those, so whatever.

  6. Barbie1 says:

She is a treasure and a hoot. Keep it up Dionne.

  7. aang says:

Whoever runs KFC’s socials is funny and pretty bold.

  8. MarcelMarcel says:

The only thing more iconic than Dionne Warwicks Twitter presence is her singing voice.

And I say this as a white person who loves mayošŸ¤£… in my defence I always pair it with fresh chilli, chilli paste or whole grain mustard. But it is totally white peoples mustard. Youā€™re hilarious, Oya so glad youā€™re a writer here.

    • Oya says:

It was right there. I couldn’t pass it up.

      • MarcelMarcel says:

Lmao I was looking at my three kinds of mayo today (Iā€™m including garlic aioli) and thinking… 9.5 times out of 19 when I walk into other white persons house they have mayo. Itā€™s the mustard of my people.
The dip of my people is taking something perfectly delicious like hummus, adding white beans instead of chickpeas and acting like weā€™re revolutionaries. Weā€™re not, we just like bland food and itā€™s white bean dip not humus.

Iā€™m really grateful for travel, hot sauce and South East Asian cuisine. Without it Iā€™d still think bland Anglo food is flavoursome.

    • MarcelMarcel says:

      *9.5 times out of 10

  9. MissMarirose says:

I am rofl about Dionne blocking Hellmann’s for tweeting about mayo on coffee. šŸ™‚

  10. florencia says:

I also immediately block anyone who writes “That’s it. That’s the tweet”. That phrase is like nails on a chalk board to me.

  11. Dierski says:

She is hysterical – I am completely here for Dionne Warwick taking over twitter anytime she pleases.

  12. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

That’s awesome. Love clean fun. But what is white people’s mustard? I have to have very grainy mustard or Dijon.
