Royal commentator: No, Prince William was *returning* from vacation last week

The Duke of Cambridge during his visit to Brighter Futures

Last week, People Magazine ran a story about how the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children would be out of school for their “half-term” break. Don’t ask me, I do not understand the British school system’s breaks and holidays, but I do know that there are a lot of them. I took the People Mag article at face value, as did everyone else: that William and Kate would disappear for a few weeks “on holiday” with their kids. When the British papers published those photos of the Cambridge family at Heathrow last Thursday, it felt like the icing on the work-shy cake: of course they were headed off on vacation just as the Queen’s hospitalization was revealed. But according to one royal commentator, William and Kate were RETURNING from vacation and something something preparing to be king.

The Duke of Cambridge is currently “preparing to be king” by taking a more prominent role in the handling of the British monarchy. It has recently emerged that the 39-year-old Prince is overseeing the management of two important royal estates, and both he and Kate will boost their public engagements and profile to support the Royal Family. The Queen is currently resting at Windsor Castle after cancelling a trip to Northern Ireland due to ill health.

Royal expert Natalie Oliveri told the TODAY show: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis, they were all seen at Heathrow airport on Thursday, they were coming back from a family holiday. Now they had arrived on Thursday, the same day Queen Elizabeth was discharged from hospital in London so many people are seeing that as rushing back to be by the Queen’s side.

“So far, we aren’t being told there is any cause for alarm but Prince William is one of the royals really stepping up, taking charge of these royal duties. He apparently is taking charge of the Balmoral and Sandringham estates in the Queen’s absence, those were jobs that his grandfather Prince Philip would have done before his passing, so really William is preparing to be king one day of course after his father.”

Speaking of the long-lasting impact of Megxit, Oliveri said: “There is a huge absence now left by Harry and Meghan too so the Cambridges really have to step up there.”

[From The Daily Express]

The timeline is clear: the last time William was seen/photographed was Tuesday evening, when he did back-to-back “receptions,” one at Windsor Castle (with the Queen) and one at Kensington Palace. The KP reception was a private event, with Kate, to thank everyone involved with the Diana statue. No photos were taken or released, but I believe William and Kate were there. So did they go on vacation for one full day (Wednesday) and return on Thursday? No. They took their kids out of school on Thursday and jetted off on vacation. No one has seen them since then. So what the hell is Natalie Oliveri talking about? Is this the official line from KP or is this woman just making it up as she goes along? I don’t even believe that Baldemort has taken over jack squat with the royal estates either – over Charles’ dead body, you know? Charles has switched all of the royal estates over to all-organic and William doesn’t know sh-t about that.

    Mr. Burns…

    • Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

      Lololololololololololololol!!!!

      • Noki says:

Lol since William is a nasty individual we dont even feel bad about the demise in his looks. He must look in the mirror sometimes and weep. He was a gorgeous young man at some point.

      • Sid says:

I will say that this is one of the very, very few areas where I have a smidge of sympathy for him. After years of having your looks celebrated worldwide, it probably hurts to no longer be one of the beautiful people, and to know that everyone sees it. Of course, a kind personality could make up for it, but alas…

      • Lorelei says:

@Sid, typically I would totally agree with you, if we were talking about any regular person, and it was something having to do with their body which they had absolutely no control over.

HOWEVER. William has had, for his entire life, the money and resources to summon basically anything he wants with the snap of a finger. I have been wondering for *years* why he didn’t nip this in the bud when it started. IDK anything about men’s hair replacement methods, lol, so no idea what the options were, but whatever they are, he could have done them. Had someone come to one of his palaces and discreetly do whatever— no matter how much it cost or how much time it took to get the best.

I am absolutely not criticizing bald men at all (imo lots of men look better bald), I’m trashing William specifically because he’s such a repugnant, arrogant person, and we just watched him come very close to ruining two people’s lives over the course of a years-long, unrelentingly cruel smear campaign.

Some people have suggested that maybe he likes it and that’s why he hasn’t done anything, and I do believe there are *some* men who feel that way, but William doesn’t seem like one of them to me. Obviously just a guess, but I personally don’t think he likes it.

      • Becks1 says:

I think William lost his looks because he’s a mean, petulant, spoiled person.

Maybe that shows in his looks or maybe that just influences how we all see him – maybe its both.

Harry, to me, is much better looking now than at almost any other point in his life (there was a period in his mid to late 20s where he was really cute too lol.) Is that because of how he looks physically, or is it because of his character, his personality, how his emotions come through, how open he is about his struggles, etc?

    • Liz version 700 says:

Hahaha! Those Windsor genes have really beat him silly haven’t they?

      • GRUEY says:

@sid don’t feel too bad. I really think his bad looks are 99% lifestyle. He needs to lay off the booze, put on some muscle and eat vegetables and omegas every day. Lazy spoiled people who have been told everyone owes them adoration aren’t keen on doing the hard work of daily maintenance—besides that’s Kate’s area.

      • Marivic says:

Yes nobody can fight against heredity, hormonal changes, stress. Even if you’re the future, future king. That’s William’s karma.

    • Snuffles says:

Does that mean Jason Knauf is his Smithers?

      • Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

I just recovered from fainting due to laughing too hard.

      • Lorelei says:

@Snuffles, it will be so interesting to see what happens when #poorjason is gone. Will someone competent replace him, or will KP descend further into absolute chaos? Right now, they’re so inept that people are literally laughing out loud at them.
(I overuse the word “literally” but I really mean it this time, lol!)

      • Harper says:

@Lorelei I am beginning to wonder if Jason will really ever leave. When Burger King and Kate walked up to the Earthshot shindig receiving line it was Jason standing first in line there to greet them. I think we are the only ones who remember he’s supposed to be going overseas. Jason is to William what Michael Fawcett is to Charles. A nonnegotiable who will toddle off for public relations’ sake and then slither back in whenever the scandal du jour dies down.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

@Harper, so the snakes of the smear campaign and false bullying allegations against Meghan are still slithering around each other and there are royal rotas that believe that Harry & Meghan want to come back for some kind of Merry Christmas? Those are some overcooked noodle brains writing those stories. At best, maybe to see the Queen, but seeing the others isn’t in their best interest or mental health.imo

  2. MaryContrary says:

We all have eyes. They are clearly taking their bags out and heading into the airport.

    • Abby says:

They must think we are all dumb. That’s the only thing I can figure. We know what people ARRIVING at an airport look like.

      • Ginger says:

Seriously, how stupid does this person think we are? They are clearly taking bags OUT of a car, not putting them in.

      • Marivic says:

The clown expert got the “arriving” idea from one of the Meghan Twitter trolls and spinned and owned it. These clowns think we are as pea-brained as they are. Nobody believes their spin and they are ridiculously desperate. Bully TOB William included.

    • FeedMeChips says:

I guess they’re taking a page from Ted Cruz’s book!

    • Va Va Kaboom says:

Thank you! I’m sitting here thinking “who needs to check the timeline? Were they getting in or out of that giant car next to them”?

  3. Snuffles says:

    Complete and utter lie.

    • BothSidesNow says:

In addition to them thinking that this statement would actually be believable and everyone is that dumb!

Oh Willy, don’t speak unless you grow a brain and some common sense. This is ridiculous lie and utter BS. We also know that you and The Hyena taking on more duties and stepping up is also a complete lie as well as you have never stepped up for anything but yourself!

  4. Lorelei says:

So the palace is now just flat-out blatantly lying, Trump-style, to the public? There’s no way they were “returning” unless they’re time travelers. Unreal

She had to have been told by someone @ the palace. She wouldn’t have just made it up herself and then announced it on the Today Show.

    • STRIPE says:

Perhaps, but to be fair, she could be making this up without the palace’s help.

    • Becks1 says:

This is such blatant lying coming from somewhere and it sounds like panic to me.

I wonder if W&K didn’t tell someone – like Charles – that they were going on vacation, and when he saw the pictures he hit the roof?

No way did they leave for vacation on Wednesday and then turn around and come back on Thursday. NOPE. Were the kids even off school by that point?

      • Rapunzel says:

I like this theory, Becks- After that article on them having a lighter schedule due to the school break, Will might have had promised daddy there’d be no vacation. It’s possible Chuck saw that article and put his foot down, but Will ignored him and got caught.

The only problem with this theory is the photos. They seemed staged, and Will wouldn’t do that if he didn’t want to get caught. Unless he really is that dumb.

      • Becks1 says:

Rapunzel – well he is that dumb, lol, but then I wonder if the deal was made for these pictures before Charles pitched a fit, or if Kate okay-ed the pictures and didn’t tell William, if Carole or she was seeing some of the questions about whether or not he actually went to James’ wedding or are they even living together etc.

      • The Recluse says:

Not sure those photos were staged: witness how truly fugly that dress Kate is wearing.

      • Merricat says:

They’re wearing matching clothing. And Kate’s taste is all in her mouth, so fugly dress is about right for her.

    • Sunday says:

It is a blatant lie, and it’s even more insane when you consider how public the whole timeline is. The photos were taken at Heathrow on Thursday, and the People story about them having a “lighter schedule” due to the children’s school break ran on Friday. We know that William has just worked with People on that exclusive article, so it seems pretty obvious that he actively got People to release this detail about them being on vacation with the kids after the British press got their photo-op at the airport, for (what they thought would be) good PR about what great parents they are, running in tandem on both sides of the pond.

It’s actually crazy to turn around now and pretend none of that happened. It’ll be interesting to see if People issues any update or correction to their original story.

    • Harper says:

This is an Australian version of the Today show since all the weather temperatures runnng in the bottom corner were for Australian towns. But, Natalie Oliveri, royal commentator, is really off her rocker and just flat-out lying.

I’ll put this with the royal commentators who gave their reviews of the Oprah interview before it even aired as some of the worst offenders.

      • Jais says:

Ok, I was getting confused. So this was not on the American today show but the Australian one? I’ve been bashing the American one in the comments here so whoops?

  5. Laura-Lee MacDonald says:

Maybe Heathrow is set up differently, but Ottawa’s (Canada) airport has two levels. One for arrivals only, and one for departures only. I’m guessing no such clear delineation exists at Heathrow, or it’d be pretty easy to clarify if they were coming or going.

    • BeanieBean says:

It’s pretty easy to determine from the bags, the people, and the vehicle. The nanny is clearly taking bags over to the curb, not curb to vehicle, etc., etc. This is blatant lying.

    • Charm says:

They clearly moved from the car and toward the curb. With their bags. I stand to be corrected but I dont think Heathrow is one of their homes.

    • Rapunzel says:

Pretty sure all major airports have arrivals and departures levels.

    • Becks1 says:

I think most have different arrivals and departures – even my local airport does, BWI, and that’s big but not like Heathrow.

Besides, I will tell you when we are leaving an airport with our kids and are loading up the car, the FIRST thing we do is put the kids in the cars and get them strapped in safely. The nanny at the very least would have been all over that.

      • Christine says:

Yeah, that’s parenting 101. No one wants to keep an eye on three kids at a busy airport terminal while arguing with their spouse over the best way to pack a car. They really think we are all unable to form a logical conclusion.

    • Jaded says:

I’ve been through Heathrow several times…it does have separate arrivals/departures levels. this Natalie Oliveri is flat out lying. Her Twitter following is minimal and I think her position as “royal commentator” is an imaginary one.

    • Heathrow is a couchemare pour tout.

  6. Jais says:

Today show continues to entertain the most ridiculous royal commentators. Either she is an idiot, is strait up lying on her own recognizance, or is strait up lying for KP. I cannot believe they let someone say this on air without any question of the timeline. So can we include the today show as being part of the royal propaganda now? This is just ridiculous.

    • Tourmaline says:

Yeah who is this ‘royal expert’ Natalie Oliveri? I swear people are just coming in off the street these days and calling themselves Royal commentors and making up crap.

      • Nick G says:

So I think we have enough material for a tv show that’s a mix of TMZ and John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight… have someone smart and scathing analyse the headlines and statements of these garbage people and then we can laugh them out of existence. What gives them the right to have their statements dignified?

      • CDawg says:

After checking out her Twitter, it starts to make sense why she is commenting the way she is. At least to me.
Very heavy on (positive) Cambridge coverage as well as other royals. H&M? Not featured nearly as much other than comments on the interview.

    • Charm says:

Its occurred to me for some time now that the American big three networks, abc, nbc, cbs and as well as cnn (cbs and cnn to a lesser extent)….see the BRF as a big ol’ real-life fairy tale and their activities as mere shenanigans, so truth and facts dont matter seriously.

This is reason # 928575656272829285765626526270 why I’m so looking forward to Prince Harry’s memoir and the dash of cold water it will be in the face of all these charlatans in media.

And I also hope M is writing The-Anti-Fairy-Tale-Based-on-a-True-Story for netflix as we speak.

      • Churchill says:

Agreed that many here consider the BRF little more than costumed characters pomping about in a Disneyworld without fun or rides. Moreover, truth is collateral damage to a media that continue to cash in on both-siding non-stop inanities and lies. No one cares whether Goofy is coming or going.

    • CDawg says:

I don’t understand what’s happening with the Today show. Their royals coverage is ridiculous. Is Keir Simmons not reporting on the royals for them anymore?

      • Jais says:

So cbs has gayle so there’s a sussex connection. ABC often has Robert Jobson but also omid scobie sometimes so there’s more of a balance. The today show often has Camilla Tominey and now this person? I don’t like them having Tominey on at all but they don’t seem to have anyone with a different royal perspective to at least balance her vitriol. Except for Al Roker who I believe said a few words when people were flipping out over the name lilibet, basically mentioning how ridiculous it was. But he’s not a royal expert, just someone who isn’t drinking the royal fairy tale kool-aid.
Agree with you @eurydice-they’re just smiling through a segment-still lazy reporting though

      • Becks1 says:

Someone said above this is the Australian Today show, not the New York based one. I’m not sure if that makes it any better ,ha.

      • Lorelei says:

@Cdawg, yeah, what happened to Keir Simmons??

    • Eurydice says:

I don’t think the Today Show even cares what most of their guests are saying. The hosts just smile and nod and think about something else while the guest natters on.

      • Lorelei says:

@Eurydice, even they know that all they do is provide background noise for people stumbling out of bed, still half-asleep, rushing around getting ready for their day, lol.

      • Jais says:

Ok just mentioned upthread that someone mentioned it’s the Australian today show. Whoops? Oh well, it’s still absurd.

    • CarrieVirginia says:

Please do include the Aus Today show as propaganda. Tools with a Murdoch agenda. Shoddy gossip mongers trying to get famous on the backs of M&H. The other lot on Ch 7 : The Breakfast Show or some such title are not any better. Standard of TV in Aus is abysmal. Pretty racist.

  7. Lady D says:

Ah, the joys of manipulating the media. If dishonesty had a form, it would be stacked three castles high above Buckingham. You literally cannot believe a single word one of them says. Not one of them! The manipulations and lies must be twisting their souls.

  8. Belli says:

I thought they were taking this week off their busy schedules to spend time with their kids during their school break. So did they take the kids on holiday during term time to be coming back on Thursday?

This just confirms that the reason they asked for the pap walk pics to be taken down is the optics around the Queen’s hospital stay.

They were flying out. This is a bad attempt at ass covering.

    • CherHorowitz says:

private schools always half a 2 week half term break, with state schools generally having just one, so they unlikely took them out of school. However doesnt make it any less of a brazen lie!! I hate that people like these two. I just don’t understand

    • Becks1 says:

the easiest way to show that they were returning is for the Cambridges to make an appearance today. Who wants to bet on THAT one?

      • Rapunzel says:

Becks- I’ve been wondering if Will might make an appearance. I theorized below that maybe they feel comfortable telling this lie because he actually didn’t go with Kate and the kids, and will make an appearance to prove this new story.

      • Becks1 says:

Ooooh Rapunzel I think that is a good theory. William didn’t go on the trip, so he can still pop around somewhere today and “prove” this story while the kids and kate are nowhere to be seen.

      • Jaded says:

@Rapunzel — I too have thought that Willnot didn’t go with the family. He’s getting them out of his fast-disappearing hair to do guy things like drink a bunch of pints with his loutish friends and pull women.

      • Lorelei says:

@Rapunzel, totally agree with Becks, that IS a really good theory!!

The thing is, with things like this, the truth usually comes out in the end. Which will then make them look SO MUCH WORSE than if they just hadn’t commented in the first place.

I mean, *someone* knows where Kate and the kids are. A staff member could easily leak anonymously. IDK why this doesn’t happen more often, tbh.

      • Rapunzel says:

Lorelei- agreed about backfiring. I will die laughing if Kate and the kids get papped returning without Will. Or even with him.

      • ShazBot says:

I will say, he was the one who didn’t fit in with what the rest of them were wearing – summery dresses and shorts, while he was pants, button up and sweater. They looked like they were going somewhere warm and he didn’t.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they set up the shots to look like they were going on a family vacation and then he left later and she went with the kids.

Whatever the truth is, their PR is getting way too complicated. What’s that saying about lying? Put as much of the truth in it as possible? I can’t imagine the stress of trying to “stay ahead of” the press when he’s actually pretty dumb.

    • Gubbinal says:

I figured that the school would post their calendar and according to the web site, which first reminds me to “be kind” (I recall that they chose Thomas’s Battersea because kindness was tops of the curriculum). They have a half-term holiday from Thursday 21st October through Friday 29th October which means that the school is off until Monday, 1 November.

Also note that Heathrow has svelte private driveways that lead up to a totally private entrance to the private lounges at the airport. The picture must have been taken because they sent for the papps. Every piece of luggage is handled for you. They are just playing Little House on the Prairie.

  9. Amy Bee says:

Who’s Natalie Oliveri? A lot of these royal commentators are just Cambridge stans who feel they need to make excuses for William and Kate. It’s clear that they were being dropped off by the VIP Lounge not picked up.

    • Jais says:

She writes for 9honey, an Australian outlet. I had to look her up. Apparently she covered the sussex tour of australia and nz and said meeting the duchess of sussex was not only a privilege but a career highlight. Safe to say, this today appearance is a different type of highlight. She should be fired for saying something so untrue. My god. But the world doesn’t work that way, I guess.

  10. Libellule says:

Even if it’s true (and i don’t think it is) is that really better? The point is they are taking yet another vacation after doing nothing. Whether it was last week or this week doesn’t really matter that much

    • Lorelei says:

Not only does it not make it better, it makes it look *insane.*

In order for this to be true, it would have involved pulling all three kids OUT of school to jet off on a vacation on Wednesday —which I’m pretty sure was still a regular school day — and then coming home the next day, which is the first day of their break? I mean come ON.

Anything is possible, so I guess there’s a slight chance that this Natalie person made it up, but let’s be real — the chances of that being the case are slim to none imo. It makes absolutely no sense.

    • Charm says:

Well, there are still enough people in the world that believe the truth matters – even in a post-truth world.

This statement: “….even if its true…” is such a nails-on-chalkboard slash at the fabric of democratic societies thats being demolished by post-truthers.

      • Lorelei says:

@Charm, ITA. The BRF has zero credibility now because of their lies, and those are only the ones we know about since they got caught.

They’ve put themselves in a position where, whenever they announce anything, people automatically go into overdrive trying to find out the truth.

Now, a photo of Kate and the kids somewhere beachy (like the one someone got on their cell a few years ago; she was walking with the kids and maybe (?) Pippa, wearing a coverup over a bikini) would be worth far more than it already would have been to paparazzi.

I can’t even imagine how much $ that photo would get— not only Kate and the kids on vacation, but a reveal of the location, and most importantly, hard proof exposing the palace for lying to the press and public. AGAIN.

That would be *two weeks in a row* they were caught blatantly lying to the public— and the one about the Queen was no joke. People are pissed.

I really, really hope someone leaks where they are!! 🙏🏻

    • Harper says:

I’m wondering if Kate had too much facial work done … lasers, nips and tucks over the summer to really go out into the sun as her skin may have been too sensitive. Now that she’s healed, it’s wheels up! Off to Mustique or whatever warm weather spot she gets for free. Maybe Eden Rock with Pippa and CarolE? Or back to a villa in France with Alizee? So many options.

  11. Emineminaemin says:

Half term starts this week. Most private school have two weeks half term but they all started this week. Some schools with one week half term might start this week or next week.

    They are lying.

    • Robin says:

You’re right about it being two weeks’ worth of break for private, but the first week was last week and this is the second week. State schools started their half term this week.

  12. aquarius64 says:

This is now a 3 day story? The KP brain trust realized this was bad optics and this woman was deployed for damage control.

  13. CV says:

    wow gaslight much?

Yeah, I always head *into* the VIP pre-flight club when I land home from my 1-day holiday.

    GMAFB.

  14. Cessily says:

Just surprised to see them all head out together..

  15. Jasper says:

I am weak with laughter here. That’s the best they could come up with? As we say in my neck of the woods, the Maths not Mathsing.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

LOL – ‘the Maths not Mathsing’.

If W&K/KP are involved in this, then the only thing remotely interesting about them is their PR bungling. October 19th, Kate’s speech-Forward Trust, Diana reception thing, Windsor Castle reception. October 21-returning from 1 to 1-1/2 day holiday.hahahahaha By plane! And they had to take the nanny along for a 36? hour maybe trip-such hands on parents.LOL This makes them look even worse, which does not displease me.

NBC/Today Show have been chipping away at their credibility with these “experts”. Stopped watching.

    • Dilettante says:

      Please explain

  16. anotherlily says:

It’s obvious that they were taking bags out of the car and going into the airport. It’s also debatable that William wasnt going with them.

    • Carty says:

That’s what I thought. Almost as if he had visitation for a few days before she took them on vacation, where he dropped them off. Who knows, they’re being so shady about

    • MipMip says:

This was my theory yesterday and I stand by it. They staged the photo op of them all flying off somewhere when really Kate and the kids (and nanny) flew somewhere and William walked in with them and out another more discreet entrance.

These people are tone deaf but I don’t think William would really leave the country when the queen is ill. It makes sense that he would stay close. It’s probably better for everyone that Kate and the kids are on an island somewhere so William can focus on his machinations.

      • Lady Digby says:

I like that theory which chimes in with what I thought when the royal engagement bar chart indicated the their combined total per year is 125 which leaves the majority of the year for holidays and fast track succession plotting!

    • Lorelei says:

@AnotherLily, it is right out of Trump’s playbook and it’s giving me flashbacks to those frustrating times: blatantly lie (all via people paid for by the taxpayers, the people they’re lying to) even though the public can see that THE EXACT OPPOSITE is happening right in front of their eyes.

  17. Nic919 says:

This could only be said on a US channel because the UK public would have been aware of the fact that half term is this week not last week and that Earthshot was just a few days before so there is no way they went on a three day trip. Maybe they aren’t as aware of Earthshot based on the BBC ratings, but taking off and returning prior to half term break even starting makes no sense.

This reminds me of when Emily Andrew’s reporting on the baby shower before it even happened.

It looks like the media was briefed on the trip and because the photos were released earlier than expected (DM yanking the chain a bit here) some of the RR robotically proceeded with the briefing narrative and can’t adjust for new facts.

    • Rapunzel says:

Nic919- Excellent point that this is specifically for a US audience because the UK audience would see through the lies more quickly.

Which also means they stupidly think UK peeps are magically unable to hear what’s said in the US. And vice versa. Sounds about their speed.

    • Over it says:

Well someone should tell the Today show to stop being so lazy and do their own investigating. Also people should call this so call pinocho journalist out on her lies. They were leaving not coming back. Why would they pull the children out of school early when they will be home on school holiday anyway for the next 1-2 weeks. And we the people can clearly tell the difference between loading and unloading a car .

      • Agreatreckoning says:

I hope people are tweeting the Today Show about the problematic timing and obvious lying.

    • Same says:

We all know this wasn’t the Today show out of NYC … yes?

      • Agreatreckoning says:

Ah, checked the article and this Natalie is talking to the Australian Today show. Well, if NYC’s Today Show gets tweeted, maybe it will refrain them from the dumb@ss “experts” they’ve had on like Tominey who’ve bald faced lied.

      • Nic919 says:

The point remains that they could never have said this to a UK audience because they know exactly when half term break happens.

  18. What in the Holly Hobby hell is she wearing in those pics?

  19. JT says:

So if they are already from vacation, they should be back to work no? They should have full schedule right about now preparing to be king and all.

  20. Rapunzel says:

They’re resorting to blatant lying now? This makes no sense. Bea and Eugenie were in Greece at a family wedding. TQ was obviously not so sick everyone needed gathering around her death bed. Why lie so obviously? They had literally just had an article written about working lightly due to the kids’ school break. It’s just so clear they were leaving, not returning. Save the lies for something else.
    They are totally incompetent.

But I wonder if Will actually didn’t go with Kate and the kids. Is that why they feel they can lie about this? Is Will going to be at some event to “prove” this story?

    • Queen Anne says:

Rapunzel I agree with you. I don’t think Willy went with them. I don’t see anyone else in the car or an rpo anywhere so I think Willy is dropping them off. Looks like Charlotte is asking him to go maybe. He has one little bag he is going to hand over. I do wonder where katie and the poor nanny and the kids went? Does anyone know if Willy ever finished the bespoke agriculture course?

    • swirlmamad says:

The only reason they would tell such a bold-faced lie is to cover up something bigger….as in William did NOT go on that vacation with Kate, the nanny and the kids. You cannot convince me otherwise at this point.

      • Becks1 says:

This is really makes the most sense at this point. William didn’t go and someone in the press knows that and maybe even asked KP about it and so we have this sloppy cover story.

It’s so sloppy and such a blatant lie that there has to be something else going on. People know they vacation.

    • Jaded says:

I don’t think Willnot will show up at some event, he doesn’t want to be so obvious about the cracks in their marriage and that he’d rather stay in London. If he’s seen it will be dad-dancing with some unknown blonde.

      • Jais says:

I don’t think we will see him this wknd, unless yes it’s undercover dad dancing. I think the reception for international leaders is on monday for their environment thing though. Is William scheduled to be at that? If so, it really makes sense if he was dropping the kids and Kate off for a vacay. Otherwise it’s only a 3 day trip for him so why bother and honestly could see that happening with families where one parent is working but the kids and the other parent go somewhere for the school break. Like it could be spun in a way that isn’t about them not being together on vacation. To be clear, I’m saying it could be spun that way and not saying that is what’s necessarily going on.

I think it just ended up looking bad bc they were rushing out as the queen was just in hospital as opposed to rushing to be back by her side. The reporter lied that people see the pics as the Cambridges rushing back to be with the queen and totally changed the narrative. If the reporter was given this info by KP then that’s the part they are concerned with, that the pics show they are not stepping up for the queen.

  21. Lucy says:

Ok, the point about him not knowing anything about organic estate management – I remember he took a “bespoke” degree right after George was born that was supposed to teach him exactly that. I also remember that he basically used it as an excuse to not be home with his wife and newborn, and that in the end he didn’t finish it.

The BRF should make a tiktok with that and all the other half assed things the Cambridge have done to the sound of “if it isn’t the consequences of my own actions!”

Also I want that tartan scarf he’s wearing, it’s so pretty.

  22. Merricat says:

It makes me cry with laughter at the thought of the Cambridges being forced to “work” because Harry and Meghan left. I guess they didn’t think that smear-campaign through to the end.
This entire year has been non-stop karma for the Isle of Salt royals, and I have enjoyed all of it.

    • Eurydice says:

I think they truly believed Harry would leave Meghan.

      • Lady D says:

Instead, William has to face consequences for the first time in his life. Isn’t he handling the adversity well? Lies, traitorous backstabbing of his mother and brother, marriage on the rocks, non-stop incandescent rages, and being forced to be somewhat accountable for his actions for the first time in his life. He’s lashing out everywhere because he’s no longer in control and doesn’t he hate that?

      • Talia says:

They thought they could drive *Meghan* into leaving *Harry* and that he would never in a million years leave *with* her because duty / the Queen / supporting William / [insert reason Harry would *never* leave]. Oops.

      • ShazBot says:

yes, exactly Talia – they thought they’d drive Meghan out and then they would “help” poor broken-hearted Harry by pushing him into the arms of an “appropriate” young, blonde Tory.

      • Tessa says:

And Kate and William and Harry could be all “close again” and William could pick out a “bride” for Harry. LOL.

  23. Jay says:

They must think we are really, really stupid. That’s all.

    • Lorelei says:

@Jay it reminds me of the conversation going on right now in the John Mulaney post: if he hadn’t gone on Seth Meyers’s show and laid out that long, detailed (false) timeline, it wouldn’t be nearly as messy as it is for him now.

He very easily could have just…said nothing, but apparently many people are incapable of keeping their mouths closed.

  24. Scout says:

William who has done 79 events all year.

Kate who has done 43 events all year.

By comparison QE has done +
    100 events.

And now William is magically going to turn into a royal workhorse like Anne and do 300+ events? Kate too??

    Laughing hysterically

    • Noki says:

Thats it ? There is less than two months before things start winding down, how on earth are they gonna get their numbers up. What is the average number of engagements these two usually end up with ?

      • JT says:

@Noki Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure this is what Kate’s schedule normally looks like. She might do a few more but on average I think she barely makes it to 100-120 engagements a year and I think that a couple dozen of those are phone meetings with Jason. So 30 or 40 days worked. Then they’ll be back on vacation until January or February.

      • Noki says:

@JT this is pitiful i thought they do atleast 200 , but fair enough I guess everything got allowances in the last year because of the pandemic especially before the vaxx was available.

      • Becks1 says:

100-150 is Kate’s norm (150 is me being REALLY generous) and that’s with lots of fluff events over the next two months. she’ll probably get 4-5 events out of the Glasgow trip, she’ll probably talk to Jason on the phone another dozen times, and then she’ll probably go to a few galas in december and that should put her around 100, but who knows, that 43 number is SUPER low at this point in the year, I think even for her. For her to get 100 she is going to have to scramble over the next few months, she needs 60 events .

We should make a bet on whether she hits it or not, lol.

      • JT says:

I think William averages about 250-280, but I don’t think he’s ever gone past 300 engagements in a year. And remember, this was supposed to be the year that W&K finally came into their roles and picked up the slack from H&M. They were gonna truly show how much they a prepared to be FFKQC….and they still couldn’t outwork the ailing, 95 year old queen.

@Becks1 I don’t think she’ll make it to 100. 60 events in two months, with another vacation on the way for winter. Please. Buttons would really have to bust ass to achieve that.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate did over 150 engagements only once this last decade. She is just slightly over 100 in the years that weren’t considered maternity leave years. And in the very early years I don’t think she cracked 100 very much.

William exceeds 200 and has bumped it up closer to 250 a few years.

      • Becks1 says:

William gets the added boost of the investitures and such like that – I haven’t seen him doing too many of those lately, but he used to do quite a few of those (relatively! everything with them is relative.) and that was probably an easy way for him to increase his numbers.

    • Belli says:

I think that might be days worked rather than total engagements? Which when we’re 299 days into the year is…

I’d expect them to put up bigger numbers this year than usual, they’ve had a PR heavy year and the poor mites have to make up for Harry and Meghan cruelly abandoning them (lol) but I think we’re still a way off Kate breaking 200 or William breaking 300.

      • Becks1 says:

I want to know this too without having to count the engagements on the CC, lol. I see people talking about the 40 engagements for Kate but I wonder if that’s days worked? 40 events at this point in the year is insanely low, even for her.

      • Nic919 says:

The Covid choo choo tour likely will bump up her numbers to over 100. There will have to be a lot of meetings with Jason to get to 150.

I agree that it seems to be more than 40 engagements but with her who really knows.

      • Lady Digby says:

Look has anybody got actual annual numbers as I still can’t believe bar chart in last week,s newspaper based on court circular which indicated an average of 45-65 engagements for Dolittle starting from 2015 ( the maternity years?!)

      • Talia says:

I think it’s engagements and they often count one day’s work as several engagements (trip to [city] with visits to hospital / school / local government plus formal dinner that evening – 4 engagements). Without the formal dinner, that’s 3 hours total but if you don’t look closely, it looks like 3 full days of work.

      • Becks1 says:

Don’t make me click on Gert’s Royals, lol.

But I did find an article about the 2017 numbers, where Kate did 63 engagements in the UK and 42 on foreign tours. That’s 105. She was pregnant with Louis but that wasn’t announced until September.

So that does make a difference with these things if they’re counting domestic only or domestic and foreign. Kate and William usually rely a great deal on a royal tour or two to bump their numbers a lot.

Here’s the CB post about 2019 (which did pop up in my bing results!)

        https://www.celebitchy.com/646426/which_royals_did_the_most_official_engagements_in_2019/

in 2019 – Harry did 201 engagements, William did 220 and Kate somehow eked out 126 and Meghan did 83, even with her maternity leave.

But these numbers all come from people going through the Court Circular and tracking everything, so it depends on what the royals enter into the CC. Like i don’t think Meghan had one meeting with Edward Enniful in the CC, even though we know she met with him several times. But Kate meets with Jason Knauf and bam, its in the CC.

      • Lorelei says:

@Becks, lmao, Gert is insufferable, so thanks for taking one for the team 😂

IDK the breakdown of numbers by year, but without even looking at them, I would bet the years that Kate’s numbers were highest were when Meghan was still there.

      • Eurydice says:

All this parsing of days/engagements reminds me of joking with some friends at the Athens national library. The socialist government was trying to increase employment, so if you needed a roll of toilet paper in the washroom you would go to the man in charge of making requests, who would go to the person in charge of filling out the forms, who would go to the guy in charge of the supply room, then the guy who would take the toilet paper out of the supply room to give to the guy who actually put the paper in the washroom – 5 people for one roll. Presto, full employment!

I can just see Kate, carving out every step of every engagement to make it look like maximum work.

  25. Nicki says:

So by telling a blatant and easily disproved lie KP has given new life to a story they wanted to bury? Geniuses.

  26. Shawna says:

They’re always fighting the wrong fire. It’s too late, you guys! We were all speculating about you guys not vacationing together as a happy married couple in the summer, not now. News flash: the fire has moved on, so go get papped at Windsor already.

  27. Mslove says:

OMG, this reminds me of Jon Lovitz pathological liar bit. “The Cambridges weren’t going on vacation, they were returning, yeah that’s it. William’s practicing to be king one day, yeah that’s what he was doing.” Do these people not realize we are laughing at them?

  28. Steph says:

    Lmfao, this is ridiculous.

  29. Sofia says:

What… What is the point of lying? Nobody who follows royal gossip is surprised they’re going on holiday – I doubt even their own fans are surprised. Just spin it as “yeah they’re going on holiday because it’s the kids’ holiday for a week and we want to”. The general public won’t care (they won’t even know the Cambridges are going on holiday).

    • Lorelei says:

@Sofia, seriously! It’s so confounding. Most people who saw the pics likely barely even registered them. A friend of mine saw it, and her only comment was that Kate looked like Ma Ingalls (my sincere apologies to Mrs. Ingalls). 99.9% of the world’s population do not notice or care or even know what in the actual fck the “court circular” is.

In the BRF’s efforts to make themselves look better, they’ve ended up creating this whole unnecessary sh!tshow. Absolute morons.

Actually, now that I think about it — aren’t they worried that George or Charlotte would spill the beans at school? Kids usually talk about whatever they did over their vacations the first day back at school, and I remember teachers asking a lot of the time.

So either a) they are too stupid to have thought of this, or b) they are *actively teaching their small children to lie*, starting at this early an age.

  30. notasugarhere says:

‘ I don’t even believe that Baldemort has taken over jack squat with the royal estates either – over Charles’ dead body, you know? Charles has switched all of the royal estates over to all-organic and William doesn’t know sh-t about that.’

Agreed, Kaiser. No way in hell is Charles letting William near the management of the private estates.

    • Rapunzel says:

Yeah, Willyboy played around with that bespoke agriculture course, so of course Charles ain’t giving him any role in the land management. I wouldn’t be surprised if Charles arranges it so he’ll still be managing things as King. He ain’t letting Willyboy mishandle the dough.

My question is: how mad do you think Charles will be when he sees Willyboy taking on airs like this?

And lol at “It has recently emerged that the 39-year-old Prince is overseeing the management of two important royal estates, and both he and Kate will boost their public engagements and profile to support the Royal Family.” It’s Iike W&K are doing the RF some favor by doing their flipping jobs.

  31. Margaret says:

It’s known as the BIG LIE. The negative comments were every where on the optics of another vacation, on a jet plane, with a large entourage, had to be addressed. They chose to lie to their peeps.
The BIG LIE, might work for the steeple, but not to the thinking. And seeing people of the world.

  32. kelleybelle says:

The first picture, omg. That man is 39? My eyes, my eyes, my eyes. *cringe* It’s true, Diana really did snatch back her looks.

  33. notasugarhere says:

This is getting as bad as Kate dodging the Irish Guards. Three different excuses were put out to cover up what RRs were originally told – she didn’t want to set up the expectation she’d show up every year.

    • Lorelei says:

@Nota, I get what you’re saying— I remember at the time, it was BAD; probably the worst press Kate had gotten since getting married.

But I think this is way worse than that, considering they just got caught in a major, serious lie less than a week ago (!!).

WHY would they risk the same thing happening again? Kate was the only one being criticized w/the Irish Guard disaster, but this implicates the palace as a whole AND one of the heirs.
(Plus, the added knowledge that everyone can see the Queen has deteriorated significantly and we know her condition is worse than whatever they’re admitting to the public.)

It is honestly the worst, stupidest, riskiest way they could possibly have handled this.

  34. RoyalBlue says:

Clean up on aisle two. That’s what she is trying to do but it is such a blatant lie.

I can’t stop laughing. those reporters are all livid that they were not informed the second the queen was in the hospital they immediately printed stories about the family. so Bea and Eugenie went to a wedding overseas, Andrew and Louise are riding and the Cambridges are unloading luggage before a vacation. I think they did this primarily to show there was no gravity in the Queen’s situation and second to yank their chain to say, we know what you all do, we just hide it from the public.

  35. Charm says:

I wonder how W00ton feels about someone else honing in on his job of cleaning BillyBasher’s @ss with his tongue.

  36. Margaret says:

They are not getting away with it. The comments are still negative.

  37. Over it says:

I despise liars, especially liars in the media. They were definitely leaving on vacation not returning. People should be calling her out on this obvious lie

  38. Janethetrain says:

Kate and the kids are on vacation, the photos were staged to show him “going” with them. They just can’t see the whole board at once. They play checkers, not chess.

Every time a monarch gets old or sick, in any movie, or any part of actual history, everyone else scrambles for power and security. Based on the leaks, it has to be an absolute shitshow.

  39. Betsy says:

This is a thing that doesn’t personally affect me in the slightest, but I still find the lying and gaslighting around this subject to be deeply offensive. To tell this kind of a whopper says that they think the public is incredibly stupid and credulous.

    • Lorelei says:

@Betsy, ITA. It’s just plain insulting and offensive, exacerbated by the fact that the people they’re lying to are the people who pay for them!!

  40. Matthew says:

can you imagine the spreadsheets necessary in the palace press offices to keep all these lies, deals, timelines straight?

    • Aengus says:

LOL! I can’t imagine the courtiers, chosen because of birth and privilege, learning to how use any spreadsheet software. That is for the common people. They are using quills, ink, and parchment.

      • Agreatreckoning says:

LOL. The courtiers find the abacus more efficient too when it comes to calculations.

  41. Elle says:

    Oh Lordy
    he fugly inside out

  42. Layla says:

Does this woman know how the school holidays work? Why on worth would they be coming back from vacation the day the kids are off from school for a week?!
    Stupid woman

    • Betsy says:

It’s a very Kellyanne Conway style of lying. They know how dumb it sounds, we know how dumb they sound saying and we can’t really respond.

  43. Summerlover says:

Thomas’s (the school where the Cambridge children go) broke up for half term on Thursday. Unlike most private schools, they don’t have two weeks off, but just over a week off. I have friends whose children to the other branch of Thomas’s. So no, they were not arriving but clearly flying out. Also, who goes to the special Windsor suite on arrival?

  44. 2cents says:

Am I the only one who thinks that the story could be true that the Cambridges were returning from their holiday in stead of going?

I think these were old photos that the Daily Mail deliberately used to coincide with the hospitalization of the Queen in order to publish a negative story about the Cambridges. In the sense of “we will throw you under the bus if you don’t comply with the invisible contract, Cambridges!”

As we know the British tabloids were pissed that the Cambridges gave an exclusive interview and photoshoot to American magazine People at the Earshot award show, completely ignoring the royal rota. As we know the royal rota are starving for content since Sussexit.

I also think that is the reason why the tabloids removed the original story, because the palace confronted them for telling lies, but the damage was already done given the numerous negative comments on the Cambridges’ trip.

The royal rota tide is turning for the Cambridges.

    • Becks1 says:

No, the only way they were “returning” instead of going is if they only went for a few days. The pictures were from Thursday, William and Kate were both at events on Tuesday, and the Sunday before was Earthshot, and William was doing stuff leading up to that (some could have been from much earlier, and prerecorded, but the actual awards show was live on Sunday.)

So either the kids went on vacation without the parents, or the Cambridges went for a 36 hour vacation. Factor in that the school break didn’t start until Thursday (see post above) and it just seems really unlikely they were arriving that day instead of going.

If the pics were super old and not from Thursday (maybe from this summer?) then its a whole different story but I think if that were the case KP would have issued a simple statement that the Cambridges were not on vacation and the pictures were old.

      • Rapunzel says:

There’s very little chance they were returning not just cause of their schedules and school schedule, but because the pics literally show them getting things out of the car and heading in. I’d be willing to believe they maybe jetted off for an overnight somewhere but the pics show arriving, not departing.

And the pics must be current or it would simply be explained that they’re old.

But who knows? They may try to sell us that the pics were old next, after this nonsense doesn’t land. In fact, I’d almost love to kinda see them try.

      • Becks1 says:

@Rapunzel – oh I agree, I’m 99.9% sure they were leaving for their vacation and this spin is just the palace trying to play clean up on aisle 4. But even if we want to *entertain* the idea of them returning…..it still doesn’t make sense and isn’t logical for many reasons.

    • Lady D says:

Not a lot of common sense in their wheelhouse. It took William 20 years to take the institution from revered to laughingstock.

  45. Janice Hill says:

Oh, that dress is a new low–prairie mama with white golf shoes.

  46. Rapunzel says:

Guys, I got it…the Cambridges were returning from a vacay. Just different ones.

George, Charlotte, and Louis were vacationing from mom at Will’s place.

Will was vacationing from Rose gardening, by looking after the kids; ie, ordering Nanny Maria around.

Kate was vacationing from setting up pap shots of her, Will and the kids, since they were with dad.

Now everybody is back to work, but Kate and the kids need a vacation from their vacation.

  47. Over it says:

You know what would be funny? If when the kids return to school and the teacher asked them what they did on the holiday and the keenbridges children say , we went on holiday with our nanny and mummy, daddy went on another holiday but we can’t remember where. Then one or a couple of kids in the class went home and to,d their parents what the keenbridges children said, because let’s face it, children don’t know any better. So then a few of these parents let this out on social media for all, to see. Anonymously of course.

    • Lorelei says:

@OverIt, I just said this above, before seeing your comment! Inevitably, that WILL (no pun intended, lol) happen — maybe not this time, but it will happen eventually. Kids are kids.

Do you think that this hasn’t crossed their minds because W&K are really that dim, or that they’re already teaching George and Charlotte to lie?

      • Jais says:

I think about this @Lorelei! If they really are separated then one day Will and Kate would have to ask the kids to lie for them or at least pretend for the public. How is that sustainable?

  48. HeatherC says:

“There is a huge absence now left by Harry and Meghan too so the Cambridges really have to step up there.”

What? NOW there is huge absence? Sussexit happened nearly 2 years ago…..

She’s really not helping them. It makes the Cambridges sound very very stupid that they didn’t know someone had to pick up Harry and Meghan’s (especially Harry’s since he had a longer track record) work/engagements.

    Poor sausages.

  49. Robin Samuels says:

Covid is known to have adverse after-effects, and William is a victim. I admit his better looks left a long time ago, but lately, he’s looking haggard and much older than 39. I don’t believe he’s into self-care. I also believe he drinks, smokes, and has an unhealthy diet. Away or in the UK, the Cambridges are on a constant vacation. They make required appearances to keep the complaints under control.
Remember, during the interview; Harry said he was always the one volunteering to travel. He made it possible for William to always be with his family. It was also an opportunity for Harry to escape the madness. I don’t know who or what got into William’s head, but mistreating the spare was a wrong move from which he may never recover.

    • Lorelei says:

@Robin, setting aside the practical implications— increased workload, etc., there has GOT to be some part of William, deep down, wracked by guilt because he knows what he did to his little brother. That takes a toll.

William might be able to keep the details out of the tabloids, and maybe even delude himself at times, but I *have* to imagine it eats away at him, knowing how horribly he mistreated Harry, who had never been anything but good to him for their entire lives.

      • San Diego says:

I beg to differ but I honestly think he doesn’t have any guilt or remorse whatsoever of what he’s done to Harry. Nothing he has said to done since indicates otherwise. In fact, he’s doubling down. No remorse at all from non of them.

      • kelleybelle says:

I believe William is soulless. Absolutely no remorse. He may realize he f**ked up but he’d never admit it.

      • L4frimaire says:

I think William will just blame Meghan for what he did to her and his brother and say she made him do it because he’s a jealous weasel.

      • swirlmamad says:

He might have some semblance of self-pity, but he’ll just squelch that by blaming “that bloody American woman” for ruining everything. I really think like Trump, William has sociopathic tendencies. I’ve said it many a time — there’s no way you can live your ENTIRE life having everyone cater to your every whim, blow smoke up your a*s, and tell you how great and special and RIGHT you are, and develop into a kind, empathetic and selfless person. It’s just not possible. Harry and Meghan were just casualties of what William needed to do to ensure that he always stays on top.

    • SueBarbri says:

Good points. William looks increasingly unwell these days, so much so that I’m convinced there is actually some health issue going on behind the scenes. He’s always had poor posture (there’s a strange angle to his shoulders in almost every photo I’ve ever seen of him), but he looks like he’s wasting away nowadays. Maybe it’s long covid, maybe it’s something else, but the entire Cambridge family looks fragile and old fashioned and just generally not well to me. If he only appeared stilted and pale during official engagements, I’d say that it’s because he hates his job. But those airport photos are supposed to be pre-vacation candids, so he shouldn’t look so pinched and pale.

    • Nyro says:

Yeah, I don’t think he takes good care of himself at at. Partly because of how aged he looks but also because some of the very early attacks against Meghan in the media was how she got Harry to stop smoking, start exercising regularly, and eating better. I’m sure that was William being pissed at how Meghan was upgrading Harry on the inside as well as the outside.

I’m just watching the train wreck that is the British Royal Family… with much joy!

  51. Jay says:

It looks like the Queen won’t be attending the upcoming climate summit, her events are being cancelled and she was in hospital just before the Cambridges left.

Apart from the bad optics of lecturing others on climate change and then almost immediately boarding a jet, now there’s an awkward choice: do the Cambridges risk staying on their vacation, relaxing in the sunshine while Gran is ill and it’s supposed to be all hands on deck, or do they risk coming home early and potentially signalling that the situation is more serious than reported?

    • Lorelei says:

But Jay, the Cambridges are already home from their vacation 😂😂

    • Jaded says:

Well IMHO the Cambridges put both feet wrong (again) by f*cking off on vacation number 47 while the Queen is apparently in worse shape than BP and the media are letting on. If William doesn’t show his lazy ass up at COP26 it will be a huge black mark on his so-called dedication and focus on something he’s supposed to be so keen about, and an insult to his gran for not picking up the slack. It’s the least he (or his father) could do.

  52. Gracie says:

Sooo they pulled their kids out of school for vacation before fall break started? Sure, Jan….

  53. starryfish29 says:

I guess she’s counting the Keenshot as vacation time, tbf it definitely wasn’t work.

  54. Lane says:

William should practice facial relaxation exercises in front of the mirror. He either looks angry, tense, or arrogant but rarely happy. Maybe he’s unwell, I don’t know, but something is sure eating at him.

  55. Cottage Ca says:

Yet still the photos of Uncle Gary urinating in the street get hushed up.

  56. Cottage Cat says:

I think William is stressed from knowing just how much the ferociously ambitious Middleton family have on him.

  57. CrystalBall says:

She looks like a simple soul. Except….. for the scheming look in her eyes. Nothing happens by chance with the scambridges – critical articles about them get pulled as quickly as new toxic commentary is contrived about the Duchess of Sussex. Coincidence? Rather an elaborate PR move to elevate the ultra lazy to undeserved echelons of grandeur.
