Sarah Ferguson will continue to be the ‘Duchess of York’ no matter what

It’s the question no one is asking: but what about Sarah Ferguson?! Yeah, no one really cares. In the wake of Prince Andrew’s withdrawal from royal life (officially now), some British media outlets are concerning themselves with the state of Fergie and what she could do now. Her future was always wrapped up in Andrew’s future, because Fergie is a trainwreck who constantly needs her ex-husband and two daughters to look after her. Fergie talks a big game about how she supports herself, but she’s always in debt somewhere, and she always needs money for something. She lives (rent-free) at Royal Lodge and now her co-ownership of the Swiss ski chalet has been taken away, because Andrew had to sell it to pay his bills. So what’s happening with Fergie? Well, she’s not worried about her title:

Prince Andrew may have been stripped of his Royal Highness title, but his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, will remain a duchess.Friends made clear last night that she will continue to be known as Sarah, Duchess of York despite her former husband being cast out of the Royal Family.

‘That has been her title since their divorce and that is how it will stay,’ one of her associates told the Daily Mail. ‘Andrew is still the Duke of York, so it is not an issue.’

The duchess, 62, is allowed to continue styling herself as Sarah, Duchess of York until she marries someone else, at which point she would lose her title. The couple’s daughters, Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and HRH Princess Eugenie, will keep their Princess and Royal Highness titles. Although they tend to be known as Beatrice and Eugenie York in their professional lives, their royal titles are always used in official bulletins such as the Court Circular.

Sarah Ferguson’s Twitter identity is SarahTheDuchess and she has often used her title on the cover of books she’s written.

Another of her friends said: ‘Sarah has absolutely no intention of shrinking away from the limelight. Why should she? She and her daughters have done nothing wrong and they believe Andrew 100 per cent that he has done nothing wrong either.’

Despite divorcing in 1996, Sarah and Andrew are so close that they share Royal Lodge, the Queen Mother’s former home, on the Windsor estate, and regularly visit the Queen together at Windsor Castle.

[From The Daily Mail]

Yeah, again, Fergie was given the right to style herself Sarah, the Duchess of York in her divorce. Her HRH was removed in the divorce as well. Even if Andrew ever had his ducal title removed – which I doubt will ever happen – I would think that Fergie still has the legal right to style herself as the Duchess of York. As for “She and her daughters have done nothing wrong” – Fergie literally took thousands of dollars from Jeffrey Epstein. Fergie has also been part of Andrew’s “team,” helping him with legal strategy and telling him to attack Virginia Giuffre. All that being said, Fergie is in too deep. Of course she’s all-in with Andrew, she would have nothing without him.

Interestingly, when she and York princesses were in Switzerland, Fergie was photographed with an ex-boyfriend. Probably hitting him up for money.

i mean… what else could she be?

  2. kelleybelle says:

Yet it’s Harry and Meghan that need to lose their titles? This woman had debts paid with sex trafficking/blackmail money of Epstein’s. Sure, but let her keep her title even though she’s divorced from the sex offender. *heavy sigh*

  3. A says:

Can’t wait to see what illegal and inexcusably immoral things she gets up to next! Fun fun fun

  4. Polo says:

We don’t actually know if he’s sold his chalet. We know that he someone got the money to pay off the former co owner. Until it’s official that’s it’s been sold I don’t believe it. They use the chalet money to hide the fact that the Queen is still footing all his bills

  5. She is just gross. While I understand she has no other options to fund her lifestyle and to date she has shown no degree of morality or empathy, how can she stand next to this man publically? I just do not get it.

  6. Jan says:

I can’t understand Fergie, you would think by now, she would have a handle on her finances.
They both lived above their means.
The Queen bailed both of them out, so many times with their money problems.
That’s why I don’t trust the Queen, neither Philip or Charles could stop her from seeing or helping Fergie.

  7. nicegirl says:

    Bigly of her

  8. Sofia says:

Didn’t know that was up for debate – unless the rules say if Andrew loses his, she loses hers but if we’re being honest, that’s not going to happen.

  9. BothSidesNow says:

Aw yes, The Duchess of Immorality and Pay-To-Play will always have Pedrew to fall back on but now that he is broke, except for what his Mummy gives him, you will be forced to find new immoral activities to fund your lifestyle! Luckily you have experience with your pay-to-play so you may be able to find someone to con but your access has now disappeared due to your ex-husband’s criminal actions.

Get over yourself Fergie!!! You were complicit in Pedrews raping of trafficked minors all the while turning a blind eye. You knew exactly what Pedrew was doing and you are not 100% innocent. The only innocent parties in your family are your daughters. That’s it!

    She is pathetic.

  11. MsIam says:

Fergie=gross. I always felt sorry for her and how she was tossed out by the Royal Family but not anymore. Fergie is everything the royals and the press want you to believe about Meghan, that she is a scheming opportunist.

    • The Recluse says:

On Twitter supporters can’t wait to insult H & M for the slightest thing, especially M, but all the while they have some pretty white trash folks in Andrew and Sarah. A couple of feckless leaches basically.

    • Juniper says:

      Oh DAMN.

      THIS!

  12. BothSidesNow says:

@ equality, that wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest! But I bet she’s pissed now because she was finally becoming folded back into the BRF and her dreams have been dashed! Good riddance!!

  13. Merricat says:

I’m guessing Charles can’t wait to kick the Yorks out, whatever shape that might take.

She and Noncy Drew deserve each other.

  15. Miranda says:

I have a friend whose husband was busted for child porn a while back, which was found when they searched his home after he was arrested for some sort of involvement with a 16-year-old girl. She immediately filed for divorce and couldn’t revert back to her maiden name* fast enough.

That said, I don’t mind Eugenie and Bea keeping their titles, for the simple fact that we rarely hear or read them. Hardly anyone refers to them as “Princess Eugenie/Bea OF YORK”; it’s usually just “Princess Eugenie/Bea”

*Is there a better, more modern word for “maiden name”? It sounds so archaic and absolutely SCREAMS patriarchy.

    • ElsaBug says:

There is! Birth name is gender neutral.

      • Miranda says:

Thank you! I swear I already knew that term, but my mind went totally blank (I blame my vacation hangover).

    • BeanieBean says:

There’s ‘given name’, but I recently heard someone use the term, ‘government name’; I like that one. Shoot, now that I think about it, in this instance maybe that’s not the right word. I’m back to given name then.

  16. Justplainme says:

Just wondering, what if andrew married someone else, would the next wife not be able to use the title? Along the same lines, if the title duke of york was taken away from andrew and returned to the crown, and lets just say the queen gives it to Louis, would fergie still keep duchess of york title?
The title is tainted now so I really wouldn’t expect anyone to use it, along with duke of windsor, for a long, long time.

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

I may be mistaken, but I believe Sarah would still be “Sarah, Duchess of York” even if Andrew remarried. The new wife would be “Her Grace The Duchess of York” and Sarah would be “Sarah, Duchess of York” (putting “Sarah” ahead of the title distinguishes her from the current Duchess).

But my understanding is there aren’t any real “rules” about it, just courtesy/tradition. In the olden days, a woman would keep the highest title she had, even if she later remarried a commoner or lower title. But that gradually changed to the current tradition of giving up a title upon remarriage. Specifically for Sarah, there may have been some “rules” inserted into the divorce settlement that specifies when she would lose her title.

  17. nancy says:

she publicly spoke in support of piers morgan and is very happy to be supporting him. she is horrible.

  18. Eurydice says:

Well, we’ll see. It doesn’t matter what her “friends” say, Fergie’s been so involved with Andrew’s life that she’s going to be dragged into his trial, too – and who knows what kind of information about her might pop up.

  19. BeanieBean says:

Now I can sleep at night, I was so worried about this.

  20. aquarius64 says:

Trust and believe if something shakes out about Ride or Die Fergie in Andy’s civil trial Charles will be the first to get Fergie losing DofY title.

  21. Murphy says:

I could call myself Duchess of York if I wanted to you know.
(but why would I want to be associated with that, yuck!)

  22. lanne says:

I cant seem to reply to posts, but whoever said that Fergie is what they all expected Meghan to be is dead on. If the Real Housewives existed at the time of her divorce, there’s no doubt in my mind that Fergie would have been a Real Housewife. Meghan isn’t one, nor would she ever be.

  23. Jaded says:

My guess is if things go REALLY badly for Prince Teddy Bear and he has to pay out a sh*t ton of money and disappear to some cold, moldy old mouse-filled crumbling country house, Fergie would drop him like a hot turd and go looking for another sugar bear.

    • notasugarhere says:

Her ex Paddy McNally has been in the background for 30+ years as Kaiser pointed out above. When Fergie was going to move the girls to Switzerland for schooling when Beatrice was 10/11, Paddy was the one who bought the house they’d be living in. He might fund a different house for her in Switzerland now, or leave her something in his will.

  24. Justplainme says:

Fergie has always stuck by andrew because he has financially supported her. If he looses most/all of his money she might move onto greener pastures.

  25. JRenee says:

If Andrew were somehow to end up destitute, Fergie would latch on to her wealthiest son in law. So many opportunities to stand on her own and do something worthy and she never did anything except spend money..

  26. Fanciful says:

She is an ugly (not physical but personality) opportunist. i really liked her when they got married, now she is just awful. I guess she always was. But come on fergie, stop wearing the ultra tight dresses, they really do not look good, like sausage casing. She could wear a coat dress nicely though. And becuause she is so awful I do enjoy sweaty armpit shot.

  27. Lady Digby says:

Both PA and Fergiana are amoral, feckless, entitled users who will cling to RF for dear life and will be financially protected to ensure silence. They both know which side their bread is buttered. All the RF rage about them is performative and PR spin. Both will continue to be pampered for ever more. At least Boris can be brought down by his own MPs PA will not be sacked by RF just quietly retired on an enormous pension so he can buy as many teddies as he likes!
