John Stamos mobbed by crazy fan on airplane

John Stamos doesn’t really seem like the kind of actor that you’d flip out over seeing. Maybe that’s just me, but he’ll always be Uncle Jesse, and that’s just not hot. Or the guy who played with the Beach Boys in the eighties. Cool, but again, not hot. But apparently a woman on a recent United Airlines flight from Chicago to LAX disagrees with me. Not only was she freakishly excited to see Stamos on her flight, but she actually woke him up to pester him. When he said he needed to sleep, she freaked out and eventually ended up being detained by the FBI. Stamos isn’t the jerk in this situation, it’s the crazy lady. Just want to make that clear.

In-flight turbulence is never a pleasant experience, especially when it’s the kind caused by fellow passengers. According to witnesses’ accounts, [John] Stamos was catching some shut-eye in first class when the unidentified woman approached him and tried to shake him awake—which, if she’d ever paid attention to Michelle Tanner’s attempts to do the same thing on Full House, she’d know Uncle Jesse wouldn’t appreciate.

The woman then persisted in trying to get the actor’s attention after he told her he wanted to sleep. Then, when he got up to use the restroom, she informed him she would wait in his seat until he returned. After Stamos got back to his seat, the woman persisted in trying to chat with him, refusing flight attendants’ urging to go back to her own first-class seat and repeatedly tapping Stamos on the hand.

Per Federal Aviation Administration protocol, authorities were informed of the in-flight turmoil when the plane landed, and FBI and police were waiting when the passengers disembarked. Stamos, not a stranger to mile-high misunderstandings, opted to not press charges and FBI agents left the scene after they had finished taking statements.

[From E! News]

You know what the FAA needs to bring back? The brig. I mean I know they never had them in the first place, but ships used to. The FAA really needs to borrow that idea. It wouldn’t even need to take up that much space – about the size of one of the bathrooms. I really think that’s the safest way to deal with air-hooliganism. I mean what the hell else can you do? What else were the flight attendants supposed to do? There was no way to restrain the woman. Unless there happened to be an Air Marshal on the plane (which I assume there wasn’t), they can’t hold the woman down. Sitting on her is absolutely out of the question. I think the brig is really the only sensible option here. And what could possibly make your flight more comfortable than knowing there’s a teeny tiny jail on board?

Picture note by Celebitchy: John Stamos is shown at the 300th ER episode celebration on 11/3/07. He is seen with fellow ER stars Linda Cardellini and Reiko Aylesworth. Thanks to PRPhotos.
