Trailer for ‘Edge of Darkness’ Mel Gibson’s first movie since 2002’s ‘Signs’

Mel Gibson stars in The Edge of Darkness, a revenge thriller about a Boston cop trying to find those responsible for his daughter’s death. It’s Gibson’s first major film since 2002’s Signs and is out in January of next year. The trailer has just come out, and it looks decent.

Entertainment Weekly points out that Gibson’s Boston accent is pretty bad, but apart from that the film has potential. It seems to have a similar feel to his 1996 film Ransom, and reminds me that Gibson can play the hell out of an angry, ass-kicking character.

I think I could watch this and not be distracted by what I know about Gibson’s personal life, but I’m sure there are plenty of you who don’t feel the same. Speaking of Gibson’s personal life, he was just spotted out in New York with his pregnant girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva. Is it just me or does Oksana look incredibly pleased to be photographed out with Gibson?

We’ll have more chances to get used to Gibson as a leading man. He’s currently filming the comedy The Beaver with Jodi Foster, and has two more films in development, according to IMDB.

Thanks to Pacific Coast News for these photos.

Oksana may look incredibly pleased but look at that sunshine and roses grin on Mel’s face. He has no remorse or sense of shame at all does he? They both sicken me.

  2. annie says:

    They both look very happy

  3. Ben says:

Prissa, so because you have a very unfortunate split, where admitedly you are in the wrong you’re supposed to walk around with a frown for the rest of your life?

That is the problem with tabloid and celebrity culture. People apply news and gossip of a persons life to every photo like it’s going through the celebs mind every single moment. And if at every moment they don’t act in accordance with how you feel about the news more is inferred and so the process is repeated.

  4. lulu says:

How Mel completly destroyed my crush on him, with the whole sugar t*ts crap onwards and religous films but before all that he was a good leading man, hope he can get back to it, if he does he needs to shut his mouth and keep that gold digging flake out of sight. He could just pull some dignity back.

  5. Ziad says:

Finally after all those years! I was watching Braveheart again the other day and was wondering when Mel Gibson will have another great movie??!
His gf looks ugly especially with this fake nose!! I don’t care about his personal life but his wife has a big role, why he is …!?!

  6. annie says:

And Oks always looks incredilbly pleased to be photographed period!

  7. Vermithrax says:

    Well said, Ben.

    Cool trailer too!

  8. Kayleigh says:

Well at least he isn’t drunk and running around with a swastika on his face. Still don’t like the looney though.

  9. BitterBetty says:

Ridiculous accent. what the hell is that? sounds like half Italian Mafia half Australian. I can’t sit through an entire film when a bad accent is involved. ruins the whole experience for me.

  10. susieqinBA says:

Mel obviously is NOT a victim of circumstances as reported by Enquirer. This woman is driving his nerves “frazzled”, he doesn’t want to marry her, she beats him down and yet he is still with her? I don’t think Mel looks genuinely happy I think he is “acting”; I can’t see how he can have any happiness with this woman. I truly believe this woman is going to drop him lot a hot potato after this baby is born and when she gets her money.

  11. Lee says:

The movie looks good. I could also watch it without Mel’s real life drama affecting my perception.

It’s funny though, on the other hand I can’t watch anything anymore with Tom Cruise without thinking about how lame he really is. Even when he’s good, as he was in Tropic Thunder, all I can think is “wow, this lame-o is nailing this”.

  12. susieqinBA says:

I don’t want to see the movie. Mel seems to keep playing the same thing; he is not versatile, I think it is too much like himself, hateful, dull, vulgar, very unattractive. I feel Mel has lost his acting career many years ago; he just doesn’t seem to have what use to be there many years ago. I don’t think this movie is a “come back” for him neither do I think the BEAVER is going to help him either.

  13. susieqinBA says:

They both have a “dopey” faked look about them. I think she LOVES the attention from the photographers like Mel does.

  14. Praise St. Angie! says:

“People apply news and gossip of a persons life to every photo like it’s going through the celebs mind every single moment.”

um…he’s an anti-semite. the idea of hating Jews for their religion may not be “going through his mind” every single moment, but it’s an opinion that he holds. It’s not just ONE event that can be forgiven. so, while it’s not something he may think about 24/7, it IS something that is a constant in his character.

and yeah, that aspect of his character WILL be going through my mind whenever I see that smug jerk’s face.

and no, I won’t be seeing this movie.

  15. susieqinBA says:

This woman’s past is revealed as using men for money gain and Mel is happy with her? I don’t believe so. I can’t see that Mel’s heart is secure for her – HE DOESN’T WANT TO MARRY HER! I truly don’t think the man is comprehending what is going on here. He probably is trying to throw it up in Robyn’s face because she has a boyfriend and the guy probably really cares about her. Mel is playing the role a fool (again) by smiling at pictures taken of him and Ok together trying to “out do” Robyn but Robyn is going to come out the winner because Mel’s “beloved Oksana” is going to keep him from getting a good portion of money from the divorce and then we’ll see Mel’s arm come off the woman’s shoulder and that smile wiped off his face. Sex toys don’t hold a relationship together!!! That is what Ok is a sex toy, she is not a genuine person and I think she is very mentally and emotionally unstable.

  16. Ben says:

Praise St. Angel you’ve clearly missed what I was talking about.
I wasn’t talking about anti-semitism, I was reffering to the divorce from his wife thing, which I assume Prissa was talking about.

Second what I was saying wasn’t meant to be unique to Mel Gibson, but all celebrities.

Thirdly, a drunken tirade is hardly an indictment of being anti-Semitic constantly in his character.
He may be anti-sematic I don’t know, but you can’t make some assertion the guy is from a mistake, a drunken mistake at that. I’d hate to be judged for the shit I babble when I’m drunk.

  17. birdie says:

I definitely like watching Mel’s films. I think he’s a talented filmmaker and a good actor (although that accent is atrocious)…

There are many actors whose personal lives I don’t agree with, but I still enjoy watching them. Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert Downey Jr. come to mind. Getting drunk and saying some really dumb things hasn’t ruined Mel forever in my opinion

  18. Praise St. Angie! says:

well, his divorce I don’t really care about. (and while you were referring to all celebs, THIS thread is about Mel Gibson, so that is the person I’m referring to.)

people get married, people get divorced. having a bad marriage isn’t going to make me stop seeing someone’s movies.

however, his anti-semitism is well documented. (not just within a drunken tirade.) His father is a holocaust-denier (saying that the 6 million Jews weren’t killed, but left Europe to “go somewhere else”), and I heard an interview with Mel where he refused outright to disagree with that opinion.

I may babble some shit when I’m drunk, but it sure as hell wouldn’t be anything anti-semitic, or racist, because I’m NOT those things. I’ve never in my life heard anyone who ISN’T a bigot say something bigoted when drunk.

The only people I’ve ever heard blurt out an ethnic/racial slur while drunk feel that way all the time, but hold their feelings back when sober. In vino veritas, ya know?

the only “drunken mistake” he made was letting his true feelings show.

  19. Firestarter says:

I will say this, and I do not agree with the thinking at all, but there are plenty of anti-semites in Hollywood, they are just better at hiding their dislike than say Mel.

I agree, the man is a loon and a scally wag (spelling?) but he is a good actor and has made some great films. If I boycotted and avoided movies based on the actions of actors and directors in Hollywood whom I disagree with on their lifestyles or politics, or general being, I would be reading more books and cancelling my satellite. Which actually might not be such a bad idea! : )

  20. Praise St. Angie! says:

“the man is a loon and a scally wag (spelling?) but he is a good actor and has made some great films.”

which is the same argument used by Polanski supporters.

granted, being a bigot isn’t the same as child drugging and rape, but it’s enough to turn me against someone’s films.

just my take on it, and everyone (including YOU!) is def entitled to their own.

  21. Prissa says:

Ben, if I may, I wasn’t so much referring to the “divorce from his wife thing,” but moreso the events that led up to it and the immature, feckless way he handled it. He had an affair, was sloppy enough to get his peice on the side knocked up before divorcing his wife of 28 years and mother of his 7 children and then tried to have the marriage annuled because he said the marriage was a mistake or that he didn’t understand or was tricked somehow. Likely story. Did he even stop to think about how his 7 children will think of him after treating their mother like this and trying to say the marriage of 28yrs was a mistake??? Oh and did I forget how pompus and hypocritical he is with his catholic church and his beliefs on who does/doesn’t go to heaven. Oh, an I’m sure (like his father) he is a Holocaust denier, quite as kept. (Spot on Praise St. Angie! – it wouldn’t come out of his mouth drunk or no if it wasn’t a part of his character). His arrogance, smugness and sense of entitlement is disgusting. I feel his wife deserved better and yes he sickens me still. In fact he sickens me more than she does because I’m sure she’s just playing this old fool and will no doubt cash out in the end.

  22. Firestarter says:

    Thanx Praise St.Angie! : )

  23. susieqinBA says:

Mel obviously is NOT a victim of circumstances as reported by Enquirer now is he? This woman is driving his nerves “frazzled”, he doesn’t want to marry her, she verbally beats him down (he does not need to lose 25 lbs.), she doesn’t want him to be with his kids, and yet he is still with her and wants to be seen with her? I don’t think Mel looks genuinely happy I think he is “acting” because that is all his life has become – detached from reality and real relationships – I can’t see how he can have any happiness with this woman. I truly believe this woman is going to drop him like a hot potato after this baby is born and she’s got her money and Mel will have a broken heart. They both have a “dopey” look about them, I think Mel’s mental illness shows because he does look mentally retarded (I know my son is mentally retarded). I think she loves the attention from the photographers like Mel does. I don’t want to see his movie. Mel seems to keep playing the same thing, he is not versatile, I think it is too much like himself, hateful, dull, vulgar, very unattractive. I feel he lost his acting career many years ago; he just doesn’t seem to have what use to be there many years ago – his looks are so disgusting and nasty and dirty I couldn’t sit through a movie of his. I don’t think this movie is a “come back” for him neither do I think the BEAVER is going to help him either. This woman’s past is revealed as using men for money/personal gain and Mel is happy with her? I don’t believe so. I can’t see that Mel’s heart is secure for her – HE DOESN’T WANT TO MARRY HER! I truly don’t think the man is comprehending what is going on here. He probably is trying to throw it up in Robyn’s face because she has a boyfriend that the kids like (and they don’t like Ok) and the guy probably really cares for her so Mel is having to confront that he never was never good to Robyn so now here is man who is good to her. Mel is playing the role of a fool (again) by smiling at pictures taken of him and Ok together like he’s found the “love of his life” and trying to “out do” Robyn (who probably is laughing her head off at him), but Robyn is going to come out the winner because Mel’s “beloved Oksana” is going to keep him from getting a good portion of money from the divorce (can’t wait to see the outcome of that) and then we’ll see Mel’s arm come off the woman’s shoulder and that smile wiped off his face. Sex toys are not a relationship and don’t hold a relationship together!! That is what Ok is a sex toy, she is not a genuine person or person of integrity, but neither is Mel, and I think she is VERY mentally and emotionally unstable. Anybody else agree with me? I’d like to know why did Mel buy her a house (which is not in her name) when she has a house that David Foster bought her? And how much child support is she getting from Dalton? The woman really needs to be taken care of – NOT!!!!

  24. BitterBetty says:

I’m pretty sure 92% of Hollywood is of the child raping, wife beating, racist and homophobic persuasion. true story.

I won’t pay to see any of this nutjob’s masterpieces. but I might watch them for free online. if I have nothing better to do.

  25. Uzi says:

@Prissa and SusieqinBA…Agree with you both! I used to be a huge Mel fan and now I can’t even stand to look at him. His behavior over the past year has been appalling. I’ll be boycotting all things Mel (movies, TV interviews, etc.) until he dumps the sleazy golddigger. I hope others do the same. Go Team Robyn!

  26. orion70 says:

hmm…..I had already seen this trailer, and it doesn’t grab me at all, Mel or no Mel. Have no idea why, but it has a “made for TV” look about it. He, however, doesn’t help. I’m not feeling the “i’m gone nutso revenge freak over my dead daughter” vibe.

I’m not distracted by his personal life, I’m distracted by the not so great acting/trailer.

  27. CathyT says:

Why are people so shocked that Mel is smiling? He’s always smiling! Mel once said that even when he’s miserable other people think that he’s too happy. Far better that he is spending time with his pregnant gf than drinking himself numb.

And Mel’s accent is fine. His character is from Roslindale.

  28. CathyT says:

For the record, despite what his father thinks, Mel said on television that he believes 6 million Jews were killed in the Holocaust.

  29. linda k says:

well….she wouldn’t be there if he didn’t want her to be there…so their relationship is still there…i think mel has moved on from throwing something up in robyn’s face…he’s settling down in whatever may come..and i don’t think robyn is really concerned anymore with what he is doing…

  30. Jazz says:

Oksana looks like the catwoman that got the cream…

  31. Praise St. Angie! says:

yeah, and then he added “and they deserved it, too!”

  32. Uzi says:

@Linda K…Oksana’s got to keep an eye on her meal ticket. Remember that the relationship heated up last year while Mel was filming EoD. Oksana needs to make sure that no other woman pops up and does to her what she did to Robyn, at least until after the baby’s born and she collects her money. I agree with you about Robyn moving on, although she’s probably, as always, watching out for her kids, especially the 10-year-old, while Mel sows his wild oats.

  33. I Choose Me says:

I’m no fan of Gibson, never have been but I’d like to high-five Ben for his comment. Some people take celebrity gossip wayyyy too seriously – analyzing every freaking thing, making inferences and acting like their opinion is fact. SMH

  34. NFLer says:

He looks so weird in the picture. Wonder if he’s on anything.
