Jessica Biel: I’m “not opposed” to being hired for Twilight

Dow Live Earth Run For Water Press Conference

Jessica Biel is making a smart strategic move in the wake of all the tabloid-driven rumors of her relationship trouble with Justin Timberlake. She want to go out and give interviews, but she doesn’t want to talk about her relationship. So what’s a girl to do? Start promoting her films four months ahead of schedule, beg for jobs on films that don’t want her, and try to look like a humanitarian.

Jessica gave an interview to MTV where I think she was trying to promote her supporting part in the ensemble film Valentine’s Day. Which doesn’t come out for another four months, so… why is she being interviewed again? Ah, yes. Because she wants to beg for a job on the Twilight franchise. It’s not like she was asked to join the cast or anything, she’s just putting it out there that she’d like to work on them. Jessica says: “Well, I’m clearly familiar with the films. I haven’t read the books, but I haven’t seen any of the films yet so I’m not that familiar — I know the idea of what it’s about. I mean, maybe [I’d be in the next ‘Twilight’ film]. That would be lovely. I am not opposed to playing a vampire.” Hey, does everyone remember how she was in Blade: Trinity? Yeah… her career has gone from that to publicly begging for a supporting role in Twilight. Step down? Or step up?

Jessica is also trying to look like a humanitarian, a good celebrity hellbent on changing the world, unconcerned with what people may say about her personal life. Jessica has given an interview in Parade to promote her participation with the Dow Live Earth Run for Water (DLERW… worst acronym ever). It takes place in April of next year, and consists of “a series of 6km runs/walks (the average distance many women and children walk every day to secure water) occurring over the course of 24 hours.” It sounds like a really great cause, but this interview isn’t that great. Jessica is not a very coherent spokeswoman for the cause:

Running for a global issue.
“The idea of really expanding the opportunity to raise awareness for this issue globally just seemed to make a lot of sense to me. Clearly, water is a major problem. Clearly, I feel passionate about it. But this particular event is amenable to everyone all over the world. Somewhere close to you, you can be a part of it. You can raise your own awareness and raise your friends’ awareness.”

Using her celebrity for something positive.
“It’s funny that this is an upside to fame because you don’t really feel sometimes like you deserve to be the face of something. It feels weird. But I think it is important to stand up for what you believe in and stand up for the world. I would never say that anyone should follow me or do what I’m doing, but this particular issue is so important because it affects the human race. So I would encourage anyone who has a voice to get behind something that makes sense for them.”

How she does her part.
“I’ve made little changes like turning off the water, taking shorter showers and being involved with causes like this. Talking to my family, talking to people in my life that aren’t as predisposed to thinking about these kinds of things or use the Internet, like my grandmother. And just really getting the word out there and really trying to live by that, even when it is so easy to go to the store and grab a bottle of water; I don’t do that anymore.”

Facing the toughest climb of her life: Mt. Kilimanjaro.
“It definitely is a scary challenge because you don’t know quite how your body will react at such high altitudes. But it’s fun, it’s exciting. I’m thrilled to go. It will be a mental challenge. I think it’s really going to be a wonderful experience to have climbed Kilimanjaro.”

Facing her (lack of) fears.
“I’m not trying to sound arrogant or anything, but I don’t really have a whole lot of fears. With different characters, you’re always exploring your vulnerability and insecurities. So I feel like I’m always tackling those kinds of things.”

Come on, there has to be something that scares you…
“OK, something I do have a fear of is swimming in the ocean–deep, deep in the ocean. I’ve never really done anything like that before and have kind of a fear of being way out there. Maybe someone will put on a swim one day and I’d love to face my fear, but I would be really terrified!”

[From Parade]

Raising awareness about global water issues is a huge deal, and it’s a cause other celebrities are involved with. My favorite is probably Matt Damon, who works with H2O Africa. The thing about Matt though is that he’s actually a really effective, educated advocate with a message beyond “um… talk to your family about, like, not showering so much or whatever.”

Guess she wouldn’t mind being hired for a Twilight movie, considering she has been in nothing but box office failures for a while (Stealth, and that stupid Adam Sandler movie whose title escapes me) and to my knowledge hasn’t been in much lately.

So very generous of her to consent to possibly being hired! Her ego certainly is not warranted.

  2. Shelly says:

Ugh, I’m very much opposed to her being hired for Twilight. LOL Am I the only person in the world who doesn’t get the whole Twilight thing? *blush*

  3. BitterBetty says:

Snore. girl is vanilla to me.

  4. nAynAy says:

How pathetic is she? She’s actually out there practically begging for a job. Poor girl has no shame! Jessica is just about as desperate as Lindsay. Hopefully, she won’t go down the same path as Lindsay.

  5. She won’t buy a bottle of water why exactly? Is she on a thirst strike?

  6. Schnauzers!!!! says:

BitterBetty…I don’t even consider her vanilla. Vanilla at least has some flavor. She is tasteless. LOL 😉

  7. nAynAy says:

I like how she says “Well, I’m clearly familiar with the films. I haven’t read the books, but I haven’t seen any of the films yet so I’m not that familiar — I know the idea of what it’s about.” Sounds like a huge contradition to me.

  8. andrea says:

can’t say i’ve ever really paid much attention to what she says, but this interview gives me a strong impression that she’s not the brightest bulb. is english her first language? because she’s not so good with it. makes me wonder about her relationship with JT – i don’t love him, but he does seem reasonably intelligent. her, not so much.

  9. Livia says:

I’m sorry, Miss Biel, but you’ve said many, many times that you are simply too beautiful to be cast in most films. Therefore, I’m afraid the Twilight franchise is out of your reach. Try again when you’ve uglied up a bit.

  10. BitterBetty says:

nAynAy, she meant she is aware of the Twilight phenomenon, like most people.

  11. danielle says:

Funny post. Yeah, Jessica doesn’t sound like the brightest bulb – but maybe she just doesn’t know much about the cause. And yeah, is she familiar or not familiar with Twilight? If she really wants a part she should stop acting cool and muster some enthusiasm. She sounded better talking about climbing Kilimanjaro, but she does seem really athletic – and she didn’t mention what the cause behind that was – I think the real cause is good publicity for her. As for JT – well Britney wasn’t a brain surgeon either, and he seemed to care more for her then any girl since. Funny, poor dumb Britney seemed to have scarred that boy for life.

  12. Firestarter says:

Dread Pirate Cuervo- I think she won’t buy water because of the plastic bottle/landfill issue, since she claims to be such an environmentalist.

I could be wrong, but that is what I got out of the comment.

  13. waldemar says:

    Clearly, she is stupid.

  14. Annie says:

    Uh.

I think it’s safe to say she wouldn’t be opposed to being HIRED. Period.

    Baby steps Jessica, Baby steps.

  15. Jeane says:

Yikes, why is everyone so hateful?
I don’t particularly like JB, but I don’t see any reason to hate her either.
So she doesn’t give very interesting interviews, who cares?

I looked up the original article:
“So, now that Biel and Lautner have collaborated on the rom-com, could we see the actress set foot in Forks, Washington? She wouldn’t rule it out.”

It sounds like she was ASKED if she would consider joining the Twilight cast. It’s not like she brought it up out of nowhere. Her only fault is not giving very eloquent answers.

I didn’t read the rest of the interview because I really don’t care for her or Justin Timberlake. The only thing that struck me about this article & the comments is that everybody seems to despise this woman for no apparent reason. Maybe someone can explain?

  16. Jeane says:

Oh yeah, and Matt Damon is such a hero, flying around the world in private jets to tell people everywhere how to be more environmental.

  17. Firestarter says:

@Jeane- It’s the old “Do as I say, not as I do ” attitude that the Hollyweird elite have.

We are all supposed to make the sacrifices to better the world, while they do all the Jabber Jawing about it, but live a completely different lifestyle than the ones they are preaching to us about.

  18. Because she's "so beautiful" says:

    Jeane,

I think the reason that people dislike her is because in the past she has given some interviews where she claims that the reason she has trouble getting jobs in Hollywood is because she is just too beautiful. People don’t take her seriously as an actress because of her looks.

People, myself included, found this kind of ridiculous and extremely narcissistic. The reason she doesn’t get jobs is more likely do to the fact that she couldn’t act her way out of paper bag rather than her astounding beauty.

  19. original kate says:

her lips look like vienna sausages.

  20. Kayleigh says:

She said “clearly” too much IMO, 3 times is excessive. Learn to expand your “clearly” boring vocabulary!

And yes her lips look like they dragged on asphalt while going 60 mph.

  21. Lee says:

@waldemar, yeah I got the clearly thing too, which she has clearly overused, in a clearly incorrect way.

  22. Beth says:

Boy when you openly beg for a part, you must really be desperate.

  23. jule says:

firestarter – Exactly, and I am still thinking about Astro in the previous article…..hee hee

  24. Wresa says:

Amen, Original Kate. She needs to lay of the plastic surgery. She is beginning to look like a different person.

  25. TwinkleToes says:

    FS, now JabberJaw? Too funny.

It amazes me that this girl got a nose job and thinks she is so beautiful. Her face is just too big to be a classic beauty. I hope she knows that.

  26. Kimberly says:

Ya not likely Jess. She just doesn’t have any range in her acting at all. I mean cmon now? Sure she’s pretty, but pretty only takes you so far before people start to notice you don’t have any talent to back it up.

  27. wow says:

Wait, she said she’s familiar with the “films” as in plural. There’s only been one released so far. The next one won’t be released until next month.

And I can’t see her being a part of that franchise. What part could she possibly play?

  28. loldongs says:

She kind of looks like michael jackson.

  29. lola lola says:

Besides dating what’s his face, did this woman ever have much of a career?

p.s. Wow: Maybe she could be someone’s mother. She’s too old for the central cast. Who else is there?

  30. Ben says:

I have the same fear of swimming in deep ocean. But no like a couple of miles off shore. I mean like being in the middle of an ocean and swimming off the back of a boat, the idea scares me for some reason. I guess it’s the idea of swimming down and its just black, and it gets colder and colder the deeper you go and there’s so much mystery below. I don’t know most fears are too rational.

  31. Jazz says:

Jessica, you haven’t been hired for Twilight yet because clearly you are too beautiful! *smirk*

  32. stacy says:

    *yaaaawwwnn* she bores me.

  33. badhorse says:

I guess she’s “not opposed” to any job offer. However, I am totally opposed to any offer for her as she is clearly too beautiful. What a loser!

  34. grace says:

i am not opposed to her being hired for twilight as well.
it seems like casting people without any acting skills for this movie has worked so far.

  35. The Old KC says:

“Clearly, water is a problem.” I’m with you Jessica! DOWN WITH WATER!!! People drown in it all the time! We need to rid the Earth of it. No more rivers, lakes or streams! It’s time for it to end, NOW!!! Oh, that’s not what she meant? Damn.
