TBH I don't know too much about her or her life, but she could have just come out of a bad relationship and wasn't ready to be in a real relationship again, maybe DiCaprio approached her...I don't know. And yes, I do think that usually the simplest explanation is the correct one, but remember that this is Hollywood, and they basically live on a different planet than us mere mortals, so I don't find it too shocking or out there.
