Melania Trump: Anna Wintour was ‘biased’ for not giving me a Vogue cover

One of the things I’ve always liked about Anna Wintour is that when it came time to make an editorial call about how Vogue covered the Trump Administration, she didn’t waver. She didn’t play “both sides” and she didn’t glorify the fascism or racism of the Trumpers. You could argue that Wintour learned that lesson the hard way during the Bush administration, when Vogue offered glowing soft-focus profiles of Bush administration figures like Condoleezza Rice (to much criticism). So when it came time for editorial decisions about the Trumps, Wintour just said “nope.” Melania Trump was never asked to be on the cover of Vogue as First Lady, although she was on the cover in 2005, when she married her husband. Well, it looks like Melania is still salty about all of it:

Former first lady Melania Trump has slammed Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, for never putting her on the cover when her husband was president, in her first interview since leaving the White House. Fox Nation host Pete Hegseth raised the topic in his sit down with Melania, noting that first ladies Jill Biden, Michelle Obama, and Hillary Clinton have all appeared on the cover of Vogue and that Vice President Kamala Harris got the honor even before she was sworn in.

“They’re biased and they have likes and dislikes, and it’s so obvious. And I think American people and everyone sees it. It was their decision, and I have much more important things to do—and I did in the White House—than being on the cover of Vogue,” Melania said.

[From The Daily Beast]

I’m including the clip below. What’s striking is that the Fox News douche and Melania both act as if Vogue covers are some kind of sacred public trust, like there’s a requirement that *every* First Lady appear on Vogue and Anna Wintour broke the law. It’s pretty crazy. Vogue’s editors can decide who gets a cover and who doesn’t, and fascist First Ladies don’t get covers. Also, “I have much more important things to do” O RLY?? Like what, Mel? Failing to scam people into buying your stupid NFTs??

You’re a glorified sex worker and the whole world has seen you naked. Plus you’re profoundly dishonest about your boob job and all your other surgery. Go away, please.

    • Wendy says:

It always bums me out when people trash her for having possibly been a sex worker, or for posing nude, or for having had plastic surgery. She went on The View and promoted her husband’s racist birther theories about President Obama. She’s a fascist. You could drag her with that instead of leaning hard on sex-negative misogyny, maybe?

      • Emily says:

Agree. Focusing on her physical and sexual traits–whether negative (as in this comment) or positive (as she complains wasn’t done in Vogue)–take away from the legitimate discussion around how she used her position of influence so terribly.

      • aang says:

I think it is ok to mention it in the context of pointing out the hypocrisy of the family values party that holds her up as some paragon of beauty, class, virtue, and femininity. There is nothing wrong with sex work. There is something wrong with slut shaming sexualy liberated women while making a sex worker/nude model your poster lady.

    • NotSoSocialB says:

      “…business background and fashion background…”

God, someone help me up, I am too weak from laughter to assume an upright position today.

      Couple notes:
      1) damn, in the stills, her face lift of 3 or so years ago is failing already (jowly) and
      2) she’s overdone the mid face fillers as compensation prior to the interview, and looks ridiculous and borderline unrecognizable (if not for her overly pulled and surgically slanted eyes).

  2. emmi says:

Yes. And? Anna Wintour made a career out of being biased and having likes and dislikes. Water is wet I guess? This is so dumb. And thus expected.

  3. Kaylove says:

Aw, maybe don’t be a facist and you’ll get more magazine covers? Just a thought..

  4. Amy Bee says:

But she has been on the cover of Vogue before so why is upset that she didn’t get another cover? I don’t get it.

    • Shai says:

Because that was before she was First Lady, she wanted that recognition like Hillary Clinton & Michelle Obama for that position. What’s funny is apparently they did offer her a photoshoot opportunity, but couldn’t promise a cover so she never found it important to fit it into her schedule. Vogue just let it go after that.

  5. Marla Singer says:

No one likes you. Go away! You and your family 🤮 are not role models.

    • Julia K says:

Your comment really triggers all the emotions of disgust and devastation I felt when these exact same words were pointed at Meghan from the U.K. bots and haters. You can express yourself however you wish but please don’t presume to speak for everyone, we are fully capable of expressing our own feelings.

      • Ange says:

If you have sympathy for that racist birther go ahead and have it, don’t drag someone else completely unrelated into the discussion (who had legitimate complaints about public treatment) like it makes your position valid

      • Deering24 says:

Julia K—you’re comparing her with Meghan?!?! Er…you’ve chosen quite the hill to get nuked on…🤣🤣😎😎😛😛

      • NotSoSocialB says:

You clearly must be fairly new in the neighborhood.

    • Pusspants says:

Agreed! She is not a role model & should disappear from the public spotlight. If she had any sense of shame, that’s what she’d be doing, instead of complaining about a Vogue cover. Piss off!

  6. MaryContrary says:

She is a perfect match for her husband. Petty, small minded, racist trash.

  7. Zut Alors says:

If she doesn’t care about being on the cover of Vogue, why is she so salty? And what business acumen does she possess, pray tell?

  8. Emily says:

The replies to her crocodile tears are just too easy, seeing as how she handed them to us while she was so busy in the White House:
    “I really don’t care, do u?”
    “Who gives a fuck?”
    “Give me a fucking break!”

    • koro says:

She’s not beautiful in any way. Really.

      • AMA1977 says:

She is bordering on hard to look at without the knowledge of what a terrible person she is. Talk about getting the face you deserve.

  9. CC says:

My mother had a subscription to Vogue when I was a teenager, but I read it far more closely than she did. I have a strong memory of being disappointed that Melania was given the (bland) cover in 2005, since it was so clearly bought for her. It pissed me off even more that she seemingly took the place of Hilary Swank, who was given an inside spread – and in one of her photos Swank was wearing a stunning peacock gown by Rochas/Olivier Theyskens. Gold-digger trumped Oscar winner, and I’m glad Wintour didn’t repeat the mistake.

  10. Blithe says:

Well, yes. That’s what editing IS: Likes and Dislikes, and, in this case, selling magazines, and promoting fashion brands. It’s also pretty data-driven. I wonder how many copies sold of her previous cover? I had a subscription then, and was really shocked to see her/someone like her on the cover, in a dress that was, charitably, not to my taste.

    • AMA1977 says:

Forgive my comment-bombing, lol! I was a subscriber then, and that dress was just…wow. So awful. That cover was kind of the beginning of the end, when they stopped showcasing interesting fashion and every cover was a celebrity instead of a model. I think it coincided with La Wintour’s falling out with Andre Leon Talley, which showed who the real editorial brains were in that partnership.

They are the whiniest, pettiest snowflakes in the whole world. They may not be the originators of “you can’t fire me, I quit!!” but they have perfected it. “I don’t even want to cover your stupid magazine that you never asked me to cover!!” FFS. I would say “try to preserve your dignity!” but that ship sailed long ago.

  11. C says:

    You still here?

  12. Truthiness says:

When Obama was president she gave an interview repeating the racist birther nonsense her husband came up with. Then she plagiarizes Michelle’s speeches. So…I don’t really care, do u?

    • Sms says:

I’m no fan of the shallow and self involved Melania but I think her step kids set her up with that plagiarized speech and the rickrolling. Princess Implants wanted to discredit her stepmother and stage a power grab by making Melania look like a fool. It’s telling that no one was fired for that incredibly humiliating incident. The Trumps remind me of the British Royals- always throwing each other under the bus.

  13. Margot says:

    B*tch, please!

  14. Nev says:

    Sit down trick.

  15. EnormousCoat says:

What were the important things that she did? I mean, I expect someone who received a Genius Visa to provide some evidence here. But she can’t. She’s a failure, just like her husband. To the trash heap!

    • Jan says:

Don’t forget her two degrees, one Semester at college proves she is a genius.
Now for the 5 languages that she is fluent in, guess if you can say hello and goodbye you’re fluent in that language.
On to the speech she told Matt Lauer, that she wrote all by herself with no help, of course she had no help writing because she copied it from Michelle Obama.

  16. Rapunzel says:

Would a Melania issue even have sold? I’m assuming not, so this is really more a business decision than biased. I mean, sure, there’s that too, but ultimately she thought Melanie (#neverforget) would be bad business on the cover.

  17. Jan says:

Let’s not forget that she never offer Jill Biden the welcome, that every former First Lady offers to the incoming First Lady.
Not only was she bias but also petty, you can’t buy class, which all of the Trumps have proven.
Just like her grifter husband skipping the inauguration.

    • Lightpurple says:

Not only did she not give the welcome tour, the Trumps fired or dismissed all the staff on the day of the Inauguration so that when the Bidens arrived, there was nobody to welcome the new President and the Secret Service had to go through a security entrance so they could come to the front and let them in.

  18. Ameerah says:

I love how this still bothers her. I now want to personally thank Anna Wintour for living rent free in Melania’s head. The only reason she got the cover way back when is because DT campaigned for her to be on it. So… stay mad you salty b*tch.

  19. DuchessL says:

My take is that Vogue doesnt have to have to follow any orders to have anybody on its cover. They can do whatever they like and can like and dislike whoever. The reason she wasn’t on it is because Vogue readers are probably not right winged, Vogue possibly didnt like what she represented, and the sales would have dropped, so she wasnt worth the risk. People still dont like her: she’s the worst First lady of all time. She knows that. Move on.

    • Jan says:

Vogue is a business and it maybe as simple as her issue was not a big seller.

    • Lightpurple says:

Vogue asked to interview her, as it does all First Ladies, but could not guarantee the cover. Not every First Lady gets the cover. She refused to do the interview. No interview means absolutely no photo shoot for the cover.

      • Blueskies says:

This is the nuts and bolts of it. Whether she’s being willfully obtuse or really believing it was a pointed snub, Vogue is not going to organise an expensive photo shoot for a stand alone cover. In the minds of conservatives this is the kind of stuff that matters to them – surface, photo ops, fluffy, ego-stroking interviews on TV and in print that don’t go too deep.

  20. Yonati says:

To quote a famous coat: “I really don’t care, do you?”

  21. Rural Juror says:

Lol! Or maybe she was never in the cover because no one wants to see this raggedy b*tch anyway! She can GTFO.

  22. JFerber says:

But you and your husband are crooks, honey, and you’re stupid as hell.

  23. JFerber says:

Jan, don’t forget that Trump wouldn’t send the official plane (Air Force 1?) to pick up Biden to go to the White House, so Biden had to take a private plane. So classy of Trump, as always, the sorry mofo.

  24. JFerber says:

kelleybelle, I have more respect for other sex workers than I do for her. If she ever had a heart of gold (as they stereotypically all do), she sold hers for dollars looooooong ago.

  25. MsGnomer says:

    Cry me a river.

  26. Duchess of Hazard says:

I do remember Vogue being complimentary to Ivanka Trump but stopped that real quick when they saw how the wind was blowing. If they were going to put a Trump woman on the cover it would have been the daughter, not the step mum.

  27. Bread and Circuses says:

People who live in New York know exactly how bad Trump is, because he’s always been an abject con artist, sleazeball, and bottom-feeder.

Anna probably has met them both multiple times and has an even firmer handle on what they are. Good for her, deciding to leave them both out in the cold.
