Gerard Butler & Jessica Simpson: the date aftermath

Jessica and Ken Paves

One of the big stories yesterday was the alleged “date” between Gerard Butler and Jessica Simpson. Everything originated from Page Six, who had a source who claimed, “They were at a table with friends, but Jessica and Gerard, who sat next to each other, seemed to only be interested in each other and chatted for hours. They were laughing and flirting and eventually left together, along with Ken [Paves].” As many know, Ken Paves is totally Jessica’s gay BFF. I don’t mean that in any kind of coy frenemy way, I really do think Jessica and Ken love and adore each other, and I think they have a very genuine friendship. I’m not sure what it means for Jessica’s chances for getting laid, but I’d like to think that Ken would be able to read her signals and gracefully exit if it looked like she and Gerard needed some alone time.

Since Page Six broke the story, nearly every media outlet spent Thursday playing catch up and trying to through together as many anonymous quotes as possible. People Magazine had one of the bitchiest quotes, in my opinion. The “source” sounded like a woman scorned by Gerard. The source said: “I’m never surprised to hear that Gerard is with someone new. None of those relationships last. Certainly he’s not planning on settling down with Jessica Simpson … Gerard plays the field … and Jessica is lonely … and she lost weight and is looking good. Every time you hear about him out with someone, he’s flirting and ‘cozy’ with them and making googly eyes at them. Maybe that’s just what he does with everyone. Maybe that’s just how he is.” Bitchy, yes? I don’t know why the “source” didn’t just cut to the chase and say, “Gerard flirts with everyone, even fat girls like Jessica.” Which he does, by the way. Gerard is an equal opportunity horndog.

Other sources claimed some kind of variation on the “they’re probably just casual friends, I dunno, maybe sexy times?” Us Weekly’s “source close to Jessica” claims, “There is nothing romantic there at all.” Meanwhile, Radar had an interesting (and maybe true) take on the background of the dinner date. Radar claims that Gerard and Jessica were introduced through Jessica’s makeup artist Jeanna Robinette, who is apparently friends with Gerard (translation: he nailed her). Radar gives us this too: “They all had dinner together last week, too.” Hm… two dinners in two weeks. Interesting.

What’s their couple name, by the way? Gersica? Jessard? Or When Boobs Met Moobs? I have no idea. In any case, there’s some addition news on Gersica, separately. First, Jessica: In Touch Weekly has a nice little story about how Jessica is feeling really good about herself these days. She apparently told IT: “I am happy trying to get to know myself right now. No matter how much people try to bring me down, I am always getting back up. I don’t care what you say about me, I believe I’m beautiful.” Well, that’s nice. She’s not very bright, but she’s not nasty about anything. For the most part. And she and Ken Paves are also headed to India– home of lots of eligible bachelors who will probably be utterly charmed by Jessica’s ditziness.

Meanwhile, Gerry kind of announced that he will be taking a supporting role in a film version of Shakespeare’s Coriolanus, with Ralph Fiennes as director and starring as Coriolanus. I saw this play many years ago at the Washington D.C. Shakespeare theatre and I loved it. I bet Ralph will do a good job with it, although he is a little too old for the lead. But whatever, two of my favorite men in the same movie! Hurray! William Hurt and Vanessa Redgrave have also signed on. Excellent. Jessica won’t get the story, though.

I am going with the couple name of SimBut.

  2. HEB says:

I think Ken could tell that Jess was too unsure to be left on her own with him.

  3. Felicia says:

    LOVE, LOVE, LOVE SimBut!

  4. nAynAy says:

I’m doubtful about this one. I just can’t believe it. If that’s the case, the both of them sure to get around. He’s definitely a major PLAYA!

  5. birdie says:

Don’t think Jessica will be dating any Indian bachelor’s any time soon. I have a feeling her ditziness could be more offensive/less cutesy in terms of cultural differences, ie that whole African mosquito nets.

Also, I really don’t like Ken Paves.

  6. BeeCee says:

Haha! I don’t really believe very much of this “date” that SimBut went on… I mean seriously??!!? Can you say weird mother effing couple? Absolutely without a doubt this two have nothing common and not in a good way. Unless I see actually pictures of them out together and holding hands and junk then I’m not going to believe it…

  7. Sumodo says:

@Firestarter Simbut is ok with me

  8. Seven says:

i was thinking of this in bed last night… simbut is good but what about Butson….I think theyd be a good couple 😀

  9. Nicole says:

I’m with BeeCee – don’t believe it until I see pictures.

  10. scout says:

For the unholy threesome that is Gerard, Jess and Ken, I present:

    Geressiken
    (accent on the second syllable).

It’s been awhile since we had a good old-fashioned celebrity threesome. Apparently Gerard has way more sexy for any one woman to handle – and while Ken has sort of a budget Carson Kressley thing about him, I think Gerry would seriously be up for any kind of freaky he can put together for the night …

My entire opinion of Jessica Simpson has changed in the past four years. I find her really endearing lately.

  12. NIKKI says:

I feel sorry for her. She can’t really be that bad right? I mean, not one man is willing to stick around with her?

  13. kelly says:

Why y’all think he ended up with Jessica? He’s admitted to bisexuality. Who’s to say Ken wasn’t the one warming his sheets later that night?

  14. Embee says:

I think they are both adorable in that “if you don’t have to spend more than 15 minutes with them” kind of way. It’s probably just reumor but I like this couple.

  15. Mari says:

*ok, I think I’ve got it. Jess and Ken are going to India for her show; Gerard has been to India on several occasions. Gerry’s makeup artist got them together to talk about what Jess adn Ken should expect when traveling in Hindustan country.
    That’s my opinion anyway.

    HO& HO

  17. Ally says:

Movie sounds amazing (just get Ralph a good hairpiece). Can’t wait!

  18. wow says:

Yeah, never believed she was his type. And why do I get the feeling that the media is trying to turn Jessica into their new version of how they portray Jennifer Anniston?

  19. Rosalee says:

I’m with Firestarter..Simbut works on so many levels.

  20. Feebee says:

I don’t know about the source’s bitchy comment but yours Kaiser was out in the open. A lot of people, myself included don’t “get” Shakespeare. just because some find his work long, boring and tedious with language that makes the ears hurt doesn’t mean we’re stupid.

  21. Jeri says:

Where’s the “Date Aftermath.” Doesn’t that infer further comment on how the date went? This is just a repeat of earlier hook-up rumors, all nicely put in one place though. Your people that title the articles should read them.

  22. Mary Jane says:

I’m with you mollination! I think these other folks just are just clueless (or not as easily manipulated as we two are – lol!)! I’ve always liked JS — my now-19 daughter was a “fan” WAY back in the day (so long ago!) and my kid e’en owned a couple of records and JS wasn’t really all that bad (and I really DID want to dislike her back then!)!
I can remember back when e’eryone thought Dolly (yes, Parton — she had that AWFUL syndicated show back in the 70’s or 80’s) was a washed-up, has-been (country music didn’t cross-o’er back then) and then she did “9-to-5” and NOTHING has stopped her since… NOT that I am comparing JS with DP — only in JS’ dreams!
Although JS hasn’t done ANYTHING in years, she is still a media mainstay… Maybe Jessica is smarter (and dare I say it?) more talented than we all thought? Just a thought…

  23. Jody says:

I’m with @ Mari on this one. I dont think it was a date. Just people hanging out.
    SIMBUT is fantastic.

  24. Mary Jane says:

She needs a “tough” man like Gerard (and NOT her daddy!)… all the others have been little boys trying to play the man.
    Way to go Jess!

  25. Nudgie says:

Love ‘SimBut’ but I’m going with “ButSon” 😛
