Celebrities keep a lot of us employed. Complain as I do about Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, they help pay my rent. But bloggers aren’t the only ones they keep employed. There are the obvious direct minions like agents, managers, PR reps, and Billy Bush. But then there are some surprising offshoots – like celeb pumpkin carver Hugh McMahon. This man whips out intricate pumpkin carvings in the time it takes me to make a decent sandwich. And they’re a-mazing.
The famous artist Paul Cezzane once said “It is so fine and yet so terrible to stand in front of a blank canvas.” Well that is how Hugh McMahon feels about standing in front of an un-carved pumpkin.
PopEater stopped by Old Navy’s Urban Pumpkin Patch last week to see celebrity pumpkin carver McMahon at work carving up a Michael Jackson pumpkin (is it too soon?). Watch
Surrounded by his other celebrity pumpkin head creations (Brad and Angie, Jon and Kate, Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart), McMahon was able to carve out a freakishly good likeness of the King of Pop in about fifteen minutes.
“It’s the nose and the chin that make him to easy to carve,” Hugh said with the love of a father about his MJ pumpkin.
Jackson was apparently much easier to work on than Jon & Kate Gosselin.
“They were hard to get on the same pumpkin,” Hugh said.
We can only imagine. From your lips to a judge’s ears, Hugh.

I would really like to spend some alone time with the Jon side of the Gosselin pumpkin and Hugh’s carving knife. After I asked Hugh to spend some time carving out an intricate Ed Hardy shirt for Jon to wear. Something with a rose tattooed skull please. How very appropriate for Halloween! Then once that was complete I’d start in on Jon’s face. I have no special knife skills and terrible carpal tunnel. It’d be a disaster. How sad.

He missed an opportunity to just use a couple of pumpkins for Kim Kardashian’s ass. If not for the sign, you couldn’t tell that face was hers.

The guy’s a good artist. I’ll give him that..BUT I didn’t recognize most of them. I thought Taylor was Racheal Zoe…I also thought Jon Grossling was a bad Obama…haha!

Ooh, I pretty much guessed all of them except for the Taylor Swift header! I kept seeing Anna Paquin and wondering why a True Blood pumpkin would need a microphone.

Only Lady Gaga and the Obamas even remotely resemble the people they claim. Yawn.

Some of those pumpkins look spot on(Such as MJ), others I couldn’t tell at all who they were.
