President Biden signs the Inflation Reduction Act, Obama says: ‘This is a BFD’

One of the relatively untold stories in the mainstream media is how much President Biden has gotten done in his first two years in office. There will always be naysayers and nitpickers, and obviously you can’t do everything for everybody. But Biden spent decades in the Senate and eight years as Vice President. He understands the give-and-take and behind-the-scenes negotiating that needs to happen to get sh-t done. And he’s gotten a lot of sh-t done. Yesterday, Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law, after months of negotiations.

The Inflation Reduction Act does so many things, from helping out small businesses and low-income families, to lowering energy costs and cutting US emissions. People will get their tax refunds faster. Seniors will get cheaper medication. There are now mechanisms to genuinely curb inflation. Tax credits for people switching to green energy. And Biden has done it all with historic job growth and low unemployment. Joe Biden’s friend Barack Obama summed it up nicely, with an excellent callback:

When President Obama signed the Affordable Care Act into law, then-VP Biden was caught on a hot mic telling Obama “this is a big f–king deal.” That’s the callback. I love them so much!!

Here’s President Biden handing the signing pen to Joe Manchin.

I love it. The “thanks, Obama” is a callback too, right? Remember when enraged fox news hosts used to blame everything from senate gridlock to being unable to get a choice parking spot on Obama? Then it became a joke. Ah, who knew I could get nostalgic for 2010?

    • North of Boston says:

The “Thanks, Obama” made me laugh out loud. It was absolutely a callback 🙂

    • VIVAAVIVA says:

      I cackled at “Thanks, Obama.”

I am honestly glad the mainstream media isn’t constantly talking about what Biden is doing. If they did, the Fox News crowd would rile up their base and put pressure on Republican lawmakers to not cooperate.

Plus I like the security of having adults in the top jobs again. I can relax and not constantly have an anxious knot in my stomach and just let them do their jobs and check in every so often and see things getting done.

      • BUBS says:

Repubs are already not cooperating as is; so the fact that he’s still able to get this done is really a BFD! And yeah, it’s nice that adults are in the top jobs now. Thanks, Biden!

    Awesome!

  3. Southern Fried says:

Huge win for Democrats, middle to lower Americans and the planet. For the most part mainstream media has done us no favors by paying little attention to this. In the signing pictures note Chuck Schumer trying to contain his laughter over Biden mucking with Manchin.

The expression on Biden’s face when he hands Manchin the pen, lol.

    • LarkspurLM says:

“Here’s your pen, Manchin…no malarkey!” But Biden’s super awesome smile at the end…LOVE

Biden reminds me of my Dad…I used to get that face when we were being smartasses 🙂

You just know he was thinking “take the pen, you f’ing pain in my-“

I was anxiously waiting for the bill to be signed. I’m so grateful that it’s finally done. The far right and far left Bernie Bro “progressives” are throwing fits about it of course, nitpicking at everything in the bill. I don’t care, this is vital and I’m grateful we did it.

Joe Manchin is a tool but at least he understood what it meant for his constituents.

    • Southern Fried says:

Imo Manchin only signed because he was somehow cornered into doing so. He has never ever cared what his constituents thought. I’ve also begun to think of Bernie as an agent of chaos. Maybe there’s a better word to describe him but I can’t think of it right now. Honestly look at his record for all these years he’s served.

      • Betsy says:

I’ve thought that of Bernie forever. He makes a lot of noise sometimes but it doesn’t usually do anything.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

Worth noting that the Bernie acolytes trashed Biden & the Democrats when this was decoupled from the infrastructure bill so that could pass in 2021. They whined that Democrats had given up on all of these improvements. Turns out Biden & others who have much more experience knew exactly what they were doing–they just needed more time to get this historic legislation passed.

This, plus the Infrastructure & Jobs Act would be historic for any President in 4 or 8 years, much less 2. I hope the Berners stay mad.

    • Betsy says:

I’m beyond sick of “progressives.” Those who abstained, voted for Bernie or voted for Trump set us back immeasurably. Think where we’d be if Mrs. Clinton had been in office. Think where we’d be with Kerry and Gore, too.

Eff the media for not focusing on this as a win. They’ve been pushing Biden and the Democrats down for decades, but starting with the Afghanistan withdrawal, they had their new overriding story line. It seems like they’re starting to shift again. Gotta make it look like a horse race for a while.

Congrats US, this is a BFD!

Meanwhile in Ontario our conservative Premier is trying his best to destroy our public healthcare system so he can privatize it – dark days.

    • Jen+D says:

Oh lord I was so sad for my Ontario friends and family after he got in again.

      • Walk like a duck says:

Unfortunately we only have the MAJORITY of eligible voters to blame for NOT showing up and actually voting. Only 43% of eligible voters did their civic duty. Sad days indeed 😢

Yes, this is a BIG EFFING DEAL for the country, but I am so happy for President Biden as well! He inherited a mess and he’s keeping his head down, getting to work, trying to fix the mess. By no means are all his actions or policies perfect or caters to all constituents — no president can please everyone — but he’s trying. He’s trying to make it better for most Americans. And what really angers me is that the Democrats FIGHT for everyone, even for those that spew hate and violence against them (MAGA). And with the ousting of Cheney, the GOP has become nothing more than a party of thugs, criminals, and lowlifes. But there are conservative voters who will still support them.

And one more thing, I want to hear clap back, cussing from Biden, Beto, Stacey, Fetterman, Obama, and Hillary. Tell the GOP to shove their MAGA extremists up their asses.

This made the headlines in quite a number of EU countries. There was a lot of despair on this side of the Atlantic when Manchin seemed to have tanked the deal a few weeks ago. It’s good news for Biden, good news for the Democrats, good news for the US, good news for climate and good news for the world. A real BFD indeed!

  9. Amanda says:

I’m reminded that while sometimes it takes a while, our leaders are capable of doing the right thing in this country!

  10. lucy2 says:

I’m really glad they got this through, I hope it truly helps a lot of people and improves things, and then in November those people remember which party helped them.

  11. Sunnee says:

What I see is Biden’s soft diplomacy at work. Giving Manchin the pen was an honor for M. He’s saying you helped make this happen. I could see Manchin was genuinely touched by the gesture.

  12. jferber says:

I also love Biden and Obama immeasurably.
