This week, the Enquirer has yet another story involving Mel Gibson, Oksana Grigorieva, weddings, alcohol, babies and doom. This week’s story seems to contradict previous Enquirer reports (like last week‘s, about Oksana not wanting to sign a prenup), but it’s still interesting. The gist seems to be that Mel Gibson “pulled the plug” (hairplug?) on his alleged Christmas wedding with Oksana because he’s realized he still has “strong romantic feelings” for his estranged (ex) wife Robyn. Also, Mel has come to the conclusion that his relationship with Oksana is “doomed by her greed and ambition”.
“The light bulb finally went on,” a longtime friend told the Enquirer. “Mel realized not only was Oksana alienating him from his children, but she also was incredibly self-absorbed. Her career and not their happiness is her No. 1 priority.”
“His kids and friends have been telling him for months that Oksana was using him for money and fame, and finally he saw it for himself.”
“He has even begun to question whether the relationship will continue after the baby is born.”
Mel has begun to miss his old life with Robyn and their children. And he started to see Oksana as a career-obsessed control freak.
“While Mel was thrilled about their baby, he realized Oksana was more concerned about her career and status as an up-and-coming Hollywood star,” said the friend.
“He hated how rude she was to his children. And after Oksana established that she wanted a say in his financial decisions, he realized that marriage to this person would be a mistake.”
“Mel fears he’s actually falling back in love with Robyn… he knows his relationship with Robyn can never be repaired. But he sees how good he had it with her and ow much he took advantage of her. When they were together, Robyn took care of everything – finances, kids, family schedules. She rarely griped at him and gave him all the space he wanted professionally and personally.”
But Oksana is just the opposite, warns the friend.
“It’s ‘me, me, me!’ all the time with Oksana. Mel felt he had no choice but to put the brakes on the wedding – and he’s rethinking the relaitonship… Mel and Oksana are still together – but barely.”

Damn, is anyone else feeling for Oksana just a smidge? On one side, I do think she’s a golddigger who is in this for the money, to build her career and to have some financial security. On the other side, I f-cking hate a blatant hit piece like this, even if it does have some truth to it. So what if she’s trying to build her career? Good for her. She sounds like a cat being strangled, but at least she’s trying to bring some money in on her own. In any case, I don’t really believe that Mel is having second thoughts. I think even if he did acknowledge to himself that Oksana’s trouble, he would never admit it. His pride and ego are intertwined in the this relationship and making it appear to work.
It couldn’t be that the tab was wrong about the planned Xmas marriage. No, Mel must have changed his mind.
No, I have no sympathy for either one of them. Both knew what the other was, especially her, so they both deserve what they get.
Duh! Mel’s finally realizing what all of America already knew about Oksana. It’s like the old saying “You never know what you had until it’s gone,” which is why he’s now missing his wife.
He’d be the luckiest man on Earth if Robyn’d take him back.

I don’t feel any sympathy for Oksana at all. She’s in it for the money. Even if they don’t get married she’ll still be raking it in.
If Mel and Oksana marry and then divorce , he would have to pay child support payments on top of whatever property/financial settlement Oksana would be entitled to .
Not married Mel would just be looking at child support payments which would be substantial , but a lot less and not as much of a shock to Mel’s wallet.

If Mel truly is this stupid, it’s a prime example of what 40 some odd years of chain smoking and heavy drinking does to your brain not to mention your FACE.
That relationship should have ended at that party where she publicly humiliated him in front of his friends. She would have been lucky if she didn’t get a vicious verbal beat down right then and there.
I have no trouble seeing this as true. So often one party in a long term relationship (especially marriages) take their partner for granted. Then they lose that partner and it’s like, “uh-oh. I had it really good.” while the rest of us just shake our heads and sigh. This is one of those. You’ve probably seen it in your neighborhood.
I feel for Robyn and Robyn alone. Mel spat on her commitment and the energy and love she poured on him. NOW he regrets it? NOW he sees what she did? That’s rich…he wants to try now that she is the one who would have to do all the work (forgiveness, swallowing pride, learning to trust) to put the thing back together, while he has onlyto open his eyes to what he always had.
Mel gets what he deserves. He’s a philanderer and an anti-Semitic jerk. Karma is a bitch.

Kaiser, how can you or anyone else feel sorry for this woman? She’s set for life financially, whether or not she marries Mel, and it had nothing to do with her “up-and-coming career” (what a joke that is!) I hope this article is true, not for Mel (I agree with Anna, “karma is a bitch”), but for his children, especially the 10-year-old.
Mel, you better completely cut off your relationship with Oksana immediately and cut relationship off with baby. You will never be able to be a part of this child’s life because of Oksana’s greed and control. She will always be using that poor child as a tool to manipulate you and to have her way. You will have to cut them both off and not want to have anything to do with the child.

@Cathy T and everyone who doubts the NE…I worked in magazine publishing in the early 80’s, and at that time the NE was the joke of the industry, right up there with tabloids that wrote about two-headed space aliens. Several celebrities sued them over inaccurate/defamitory articles, and won. Things began to change in the 90’s when the NE published photos of OJ Simpson wearing Bruno Magli shoes he’d denied owning. Since then they’ve gained respect within the media industry, and have broken many big stories, most recently the John Edwards/Rielle Hunter affair. Notice that whenever they write about a celebrity marriage or relationship being “on the rocks” that couple ususally breaks up within a year. They wrote about a Gibson divorce last December, and my guess was that they got wind of Robyn consulting attorneys and possibly even drawing up papers which weren’t filed until this past April. Keep in mind that Mel has a huge extended family…nieces and nephews, sibling spouses, etc…and it’s not beyond belief that at least one would spill some secrets, for money (NE pays for information) or because they don’t like Mel and how he’s treated Robyn and their kids. Mel is not liked by a lot of people in the Hollywood/Malibu communities, and they have a lot of dirt about him and sleazy Oksana. The NE probably has several Mel-related sources, which would account for some of the discrepancies in information. The articles may not be 100% accurate, but “where there’s smoke there’s fire,” so I don’t doubt the basic content. I also don’t find the NE less credible than media outlets like CNN and Good Morning America which publicized Oksana’s “music” as if she were a legitimate singer/songwriter, or People Magazine, which used Oksana’s mother as a source to vouch for her daughter’s character. Practically every media outlet has regurgitated Team Mel’s “official” line of b.s., so I for one appreciate the NE’s reporting Team Robyn’s side of the story. It’s pretty obvious that the Mel/Oksana/Robyn/seven kids situation is complicated and the picture is not as rosy as Team Mel wants everyone to think.

It’s sad to say this, but most definitely true, that majority of the women would only like to go out with him because he’s a celebrity/has money. Not to mention, she’s practically old enough to be his kid! (Or something along the lines…) That’s an automatic red light. Nope, not at all impressed by the NE December divorce story. The Gibson marriage had been troubled for years, and yet the NE only got wind something was amiss when Mel and Oksana spent quality time together in his trailer? And they write that this caused Robyn to kick Mel out of the bedroom, when that really happened years before?
Just because the Enquirer gets the occasional story right or half-right doesn’t mean it is respected.
The NE keeps writing these stories because they have pages to fill. I’m not the only one calling BS on this.

Weren’t these the same people that told us Mel was “on vacation with his family” when the Costa Rica beach photos of him and Oksana appeared? And didn’t they also tell us Mel and Oksana had only a “professional relationship” when she was spotted going in and out of his trailer on the EoD set last year? Bottom line: Mel pays them to say whatever he wants said, whether it’s true or false. If everything the NE’s been writing about Mel’s mess over the past few months is a lie why haven’t they issued a press release setting the record straight? Yes, the NE has pages to fill, but the majority of the public is more interested in Jon and Kate than Mel and Oksana, so why would they waste space making up fake stories on this couple? Again, I don’t necessarily believe the articles are 100% accurate, but I don’t dismiss them as B.S. either.

I strongly suspect that Mel Gibson’s “sudden epiphany” regarding Oksana has much more to do with his career than anything else. I read this evening, that a new Mad Max movie has been cast without Mel Gibson. A somewhat “younger” actor will be taking over his role where the story left off. However, I believe, if the producers were much more confident in Mel’s ability to fill theaters, the plot would have probably been rewritten to include him. Mel’s divorce due to Oksana’s “conveniently careless” pregnancy has severely decimated his most loyal fan base who are extremely conservative and family oriented. Oksana probably conned Mel into believing that he could easily become a successful “music mogul” by promoting her “non-existent” musical talent. If successful, Mel would not be so financially dependent upon the motion picture industry. He tried to promote her and SHE HORRIBLY BOMBED! Personally, I don’t believe that Mel Gibson had any intention of allowing his affair with Oksana to destroy his marriage. All married couples have their differences and if he was so very unhappy, he would have dissolved his marriage years ago. Unfortunately, Mel Gibson underestimated just how “desperate” Oksana was to secure a “long-term” financial arrangement, at any cost. She didn’t care about his reputation, career or his family’s well being — just HER financial security. At this point, he probably regrets ever meeting Oksana but, if he’s the father of her child, Mel Gibson does have a “moral and financial” responsibility to provide for its’ well being. His “mid-life” misstep with Oksana has cost him dearly. In order to survive professionally as well as financially, Mel Gibson has “to cut his losses” and move on. Whether or not he reconciles with his wife is entirely up to Mrs. Gibson; however, I suspect he knows continuing to move forward with Oksana is nothing more than “professional suicide”.
Uzi, I agree with what Cathy T says. I think you are confusing spin to make a glossier general picture, when the hard facts paint a different picture (CNN, People), with a total fabrication of specific facts (NE, Star Mag). Neither is good, but there’s still an important difference.
A lot of people in Hollywood knew the Gibson’s weren’t on great terms, by last year. You have to follow what information was already out there, such as the photos with a women visiting Mel’s trailer.
They are just trying to cover all their bases as always (like 3rd graders who lie) because they made up a XMas wedding story. Saying that Mel has too much pride to admit it, is just a lame way of saying they are not breaking up despite misgivings, but the story about the wedding was true anyway. Not.
If Oksana was really ambitious, she would have done a lot more work before she met Mel. It only shows she is not ambitious, or didn’t have enough ability to really succeed and gave up on a “real” career, so she’ll make do with a make believe one. I think she’s more a leech.
If the Gibson’s are an example of what you mean by NE’s good record of getting break-up stories right, sorry to say you have been sold a bill of goods.
I didn’t see your other post. Rarely do stars address these stories, except maybe if asked in an interview. It only brings further attention to it, and those who read that stuff will gobble up just about anything regardless, but most people don’t bother with that junk – and there’s a reason for that. Tabloids work to stimulate certain women, alternating between making them mad and wanting more, then switching modes to satisfy their desire for a particular outcome. In THIS case they had to correct a story with another dopey story, so when the first story didn’t happen, they’d have already given their dopey excuse. It’s pretty transparent imo.
@SARAH- They must start early where you live, procreating that is, because he is 53, she is 39. In most places, 14 is a wee bit young to be someones father. Just sayin.
Blitz made a lot of very good points about tabloids and why stars usually don’t respond to their stories.
Uzi, lying is part of the job of a publicist, but Neirob is too good a flack to make bald face lies. His denials about Mel and Oksana were cagier than you are presenting them. Neirob called the first NE story about Oksana false without specifying what parts were wrong. And it was at least partially false–Oksana wasn’t 28 years old like the NE claimed!
When the Costa Rica pictures hit the internet, Neirob or one of his assistants told Extra that Mel was on a family vacation, only for the Extra story to disappear a little later. That wasn’t a lie because Mel was in Costa Rica with Oksana and his older children including his pregnant daughter. Mel’s relationship with Oksana wasn’t secret to his family at that point.

OK, now I can’t wait for the spin. The baby was born 10/30 and is already home, so she obviously wasn’t premature. That means Oksana got knocked up in February and the pregnancy was the reason Robyn filed for divorce. And the June reports in the London paper that she was having a girl were true, despite the fact that Oksana later denied knowing the baby’s sex. The announcement wasn’t too detailed…no name, weight, etc., so maybe Team Mel’s waiting for the results of the DNA test before they put them on the cover of People Magazine.
Linda K…SInce Robyn knew about Mel’s extracurricular activities the kids, at least the older ones, probably did too. They accepted Oksana as Mel’s mistress-du-jour, but apparently were upset by the pregnancy. I wonder how Mel’s daughter is dealing with all this. Since she was the only girl in a family of seven she was the “princess.” Now she’s been detroned!
Sincerity…Loved your comments! As Mel has a movie coming out in January, which was supposed to be his post-DUI comeback, I do think Team Mel is scrambling to save what’s left of his career. I don’t think they realized how negatively much of Mel’s fan base…conservative, family oriented, religious, female…would react. Many fans feel betrayed and used and resent being lied to.
Cathy T…I know how the PR game is played. Loved the comments about Neirob’s half-truth denials; hadn’t thought about it, and they were indeed brilliant. Neirob’s done an amazing job as Mel’s damage control specialist for many years, but this time I think he blew it. Following the Oksana scandal since it unfolded from a professional standpoint I found myself shaking my head a few times and wondering what Team Mel was thinking. Their “A plan” has failed miserably (see Sincerity’s comments) and now they’ve got to come up with “Plan B.” I’ve even wondered if Neirob & Co. is the source of this NE story and the one about Oksana not signing a pre-nup…trying to position Mel as a victim of a heartless homerecking golddigger.
Didn’t Mel’s oldest daughter recently give birth herself, to his first grandchild? She’s married to gutairist Kenny Wayne Shepard, that I know…I recently read that one of Mel’s older sons went abroad to be a missionary, to get away from all of the family misery and publicity.
@MelnotGibson…Mel’s daughter Hannah and hubby Kenny have two children. I find it very interesting that the grandchildren are rarely mentioned in Mel-related articles. Apparently his PR people don’t want this emphasized, as it makes him look even more foolish having a new baby.
