It was only after Helen Mirren (with whom he had already worked, I think it was on that SHADOWBOXER movie that I didn't see) had to drop out of the project that the issue of casting Mariah was even broached. She had already been a fan of the book PUSH--upon which this film is based--and I guess it was serendipity and landed them in this spot. All I mean to say is, you complain and tease your friends about lots of things because the rapport is already there. In any case, if she had read the book before she was invited into the production, and looked at the screenplay, I'm sure they all knew what she was in for.
