The Try Guys will take a week off their podcast after firing Ned Fulmer

The latest in a series of celebrity cheating scandals is super complicated and involves the Try Guys. These four guys used to have videos on Buzzfeed where they — you guessed it — tried things, and they later split off from Buzzfeed, paying for their name and setting up their own shop. Of the four founding guys, Ned Fulmer was the “wife guy” of the bunch, handled HR for the company, and his wife, Ariel, was one of the “Try Wives” and deeply intertwined in the business.

The timeline is complicated, but the gist is Ned has now been fired after infidelity accusations. Why, you ask, was a man fired from his job for being a cheater? Well, because he was cheating with one of his subordinates, a woman employed by the production company. And the rest of the guys are taking a week off the podcast to regroup.

The Try Guys are taking some time off.

Following the announcement that Ned Fulmer would no longer be a part of the group after infidelity accusations, the remaining members announced that they will be taking part in a brief hiatus from their podcast.

“The TryPod will be taking a week off, and returning next week on Oct 6.,” a tweet from the group, whose members now include Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfeld and Eugene Lee Yang, reads. “We wanted to take some time to formulate our thoughts before recording the episode. Thanks for being patient.”

TryPod is the group’s weekly podcast where they recap their experiences trying different things.

“In this weekly podcast they dissect their experiences as internet creators and best friends who have made a living failing upwards,” a description of the show reads.

The Try Guys was first formed in 2014 when the four founders worked for BuzzFeed. They eventually left the media giant and started their own production company, 2nd Try LLC.

Earlier this week, the group released a statement via Twitter stating that Ned, 35, “is no longer working” with them.

“As a result of a thorough internal review, we do not see a path forward together,” the statement continued. “We thank you for your support as we navigate this change.”

After his departure was announced, Ned posted a statement on his Instagram account, admitting to having “a consensual workplace relationship.” Rumors previously swirled on social media alleging Ned was seen out with another woman.

“Family should have always been my priority, but I lost focus,” the statement read. “I’m sorry for any pain that my actions may have caused to the guys and the fans but most of all to Ariel. The only thing that matters right now is my marriage and my children, and that’s where I am going to focus my attention.”

Ariel Fulmer, his wife, also shared a statement of her own via Instagram. “Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me — it means a lot,” she wrote. “Nothing is more important to me and Ned than our family, and all we request right now is that you respect our privacy for the sake of our kids.”

Representatives for Ned and The Try Guys did not immediately return PEOPLE’s requests for additional comments at the time of the initial announcement.

To date, The Try Guys have accumulated 7.8 million subscribers on YouTube.

When I first saw a headline that boiled it down to Ned being fired for cheating, I was super confused. But after getting a detailed backgrounder from my friend Ameerah, it all made sense. Ned, who handled HR, carried out an ongoing, long-term affair with an employee/subordinate out in the open. Not out in the open of the company, but out in the open of the world, including public makeouts at Harry Styles concerts and NYC outdoor dining. Of course he was going to get caught. Complicating matters, not only was Ned’s affair partner an employee, she worked with his wife as well. They all knew each other. So much so that apparently the affair partner’s fiancé messaged Ned’s wife to tell her of the affair, which Ned’s wife had believed was a one-time thing in the past and not an ongoing affair. And Ariel had a baby recently as well. Wow, Ned really treated his marriage and family and his business like crap. This misconduct from the HR guy probably opened them up to a whole world of liability and the rest of the guys were right to part ways with him — from a business sense and probably from a personal sense as well, considering how closely the wives are involved with the company.

It’s rare to see a public figure so thoroughly blow up literally every aspect of his life from work, to friendships to family. I mean, I guess addict do, but as far as we know he’s not an addict.

  2. Gillysirl says:

I’m confused – if his affair was out in the open, why wasn’t he talked to/fired earlier? Why did they wait until the whole world knew?

    • goofpuff says:

It was out in the open to the world but not to their friends. It was her fiancé who found out first, told everyone, and then blew it up to the media later. I think the try guys were already working on it internally to fire him (probably all the legal stuff) when they removed Ned from videos and the company media a few weeks ago.

    • Bunny says:

Once they found out, what were they going to do? They we’re probably crafting a way for Ned to leave without letting his wife know

The other Try Guys and their significant others know Ned’s wife and children. It wasn’t their job to throw everything wide open and let his wife know that everyone else already knew. I’d want to know, but not everyone would.

    • Erinlyt says:

She was engaged and her fiancée worked for the Try Guys as well, as an editor. So yeah. Pretty messy indeed.

  3. North of Boston says:

    Why, guy?

  4. Jessamine says:

Big yikes. I can’t even wrap my brain around how self-destructive and just plain destructive-destructive this guy’s actions were/are. How the heck did he think this was going to play out??

    • Deering24 says:

Folks who pull this are usually compulsive self-sabotagers whose needs/self-hatred swamp everything else. They are as driven to fail as they are to succeed and it can be an addition worse than drugs–the anti-high. Ben Affleck is a perfect example.

  5. meredith says:

Seriously, how hard is it to not have sex with someone.

  6. girl_ninja says:

How is it possible to know so little about a person/group and too much all at once. I just…

    • lucy2 says:

Right? I’ve never heard of these people, yet I’ve read 2 articles here and heard about it on a podcast yesterday.

  7. AmB says:

What a nonapology – way to throw the “consensual” in there to CYA, guy.

  8. Roo says:

What a douche. I hope his wife and kids are okay. And I hope his affair partner’s (ex?) fiancé is okay. I read that they were together over ten years.

  9. bearcat says:

The company knew about it, because a few recent episodes of Try Guys have him already edited out. The episodes were already streaming with him edited before the affair was made public.

He may not be “working” with the Try Guys anymore, but I’m pretty sure he’s part owner of the company/brand. I wonder how that’s going to play out.

Also, TMZ caught up to Ned and his wife and his wife stated they were working on working things out.

  10. Concern Fae says:

I have a suspicion that he lied to the others about what was going on, just from the finality of it all.

There is even a video of the guys trying on wedding dresses to be bridesmaids at his other woman’s wedding! It was along with two other employees. No way they knew what was going on.

I watched a few of these when they showed up in my YouTube recommendations. Didn’t realize they were a comedy troupe. That makes sense. I found myself really annoyed that it was more about goofing around and mugging for the camera than actually learning about a thing. I’m far more interested in watching experts at work than people making fun of knowing how to do a thing.

    • BeanieBean says:

At least they recognize they ‘failed up’. I prefer watching experts explain what they do, I find that sort of thing fascinating. I think that’s why I liked Dirty Jobs so much (another guy, I think, who could be said to have failed up); these folks explained what their very esoteric jobs were all about. Mike Rowe and his camera operators tried all these various jobs as well; while there was snark, it never seemed annoying (not to me) and it never made fun of the people themselves.

  11. DCLite says:

I used to think it was so sweet when you’d meet a man and he would tell you about his beautiful wife. Now it’s a total red flag any time a guy mentions his “hot” or “beautiful” wife within the first few minutes of meeting him. Not if he’s just dropping a royal We to let you know he’s married, but if he specifically mentions and compliments his wife, total shadester.

  12. ClaireB says:

I recently got into watching the Try Guys on YouTube, so I’m sad for the rest of them that their business partner made such a bad choice.

  13. HeyKay says:

    Ugly behavior.
And He was the HR guy? What an idiot.
He must have known this would hit the fan.

Reminds me of Letterman and his cheating with women who worked for him, for years, while married and had a child.
To hell with him and all cheaters.

His career is over, I would think. What other skills does he have? He was lucky to get the job he had.
Feel bad for the wife, kids, and fiancé of the female. They are the ones who deserve help and sympathy.

    • Anastasia says:

Right? Maybe he could get work behind the scenes, but I think the whole point of the try guys was that they were all together. Even his offshoots and side projects all related to his wife and kids. Good job there bud

    • Kelly says:

He has a chemistry degree from Yale, believe it or not. Maybe he leaves it all behind but honestly I see him trying standup or something. Lots of wife guys make a career there, complaining about them.

      • Anastasia says:

In the most prissy comment ever, it’s a bachelor’s degree, you can pretty much only do quality assurance with a BS in chemistry, maybe some basic analytical, but not much, especially with the time he’s been out of the field. Source: me, a PhD chemist drop out with an analytical dept director uncle.

According to his linkedin, he also did Second City, so @Kelly, you’re totally on point there.

      • BeanieBean says:

@Anastasia, love your comment! And I totally get the attitude! So, with a BS in chemistry, what made anybody think he’d be good at HR? Geez Louise, it’s one of the basic rules of the workplace, no sexual relationships with subordinates.

  14. Vanessa says:

Now that this guy been caught all that matter to him now his wife and kids shouldn’t he have thought about his behavior before he blow up His family. As for the woman I know people are going to make excuses for her but I think their is a special place in hell for woman who knowingly carries on affair with married man she knew his wife they were friends what type of human being knowingly intentional hurts a another woman who you knew just had a baby . The woman is a asshole and deserves all the karma that going to come her way

  15. Matilda says:

This affair was the best thing to happen to the Try Guys as they have garnered tons of free publicity and now people know who they are.

  16. Ladiabla says:

I’ve known of the Try Guys since they were with BuzzFeed. Ned really wrecked this for himself and his family….and he seemed to be the guy in charge behind the scenes. His youngest son may not even be two yet! He can always do something else with his background, but you threw away a sweet gig for yourself, guy. Never thought they could do this forever, but still, I’m sure getting paid to just do fun shit is a dream job for a lot of folks. I’m sure Eugene, Keith, and Zach will go onto to other things. Eugene will still have a big following on his own, and I think Zach went to film school. Keith has a comedy gig, I think. I wonder if they’ll still let Ariel be a part of things, like she was in a lot of video segments they did called the Try Wives. She didn’t do anything wrong….and if she stay with him, well, that’s her business. Agree that those guys who seem to be all about the wife are some fake ass b*tches.

  17. Lauren says:

Um, hello? How are we not all RAGING at “I’m sorry for any pain that my actions may have caused…” It’s so passive and casual and infuriating. May have caused! Never mind his marriage, children, business partners of nearly a decade, subordinate, her fiancé, employees, brand, fans… The half-throated apology tells me everything I need to know about this twerpy man. Ariel should run.
