I work at a school, btw, and if your kid needs otc cough medication or cough drops they have to be administered through the school nurse or the parent has to come up and administer the medication and take it back home. Technically, they are in violation of the (ridiculous) policy by carrying a Ricola. The schools follow zero tolerance policies, so often if a witness reports seeing a bottle of pills on a student it's a matter of charge first, ask questions later. Unless he was keeping his meds chopped up into powder and in little baggies, I have a hard time seeing why the police would have detained him. That seems a bit excessive.
