Ditto on the high-fives to the animal lovers. I volunteer at a shelter and foster abandoned kittens. I sometimes have 5 critters on my lap all snuggled up. I completely agree with you, Firestarter, that I have more problems with people than I do with animals!

Oh, and that idiotic woman needs help learning how to dress. That hat with that dress? Completely ridiculous looking.

pickelhaube: One of my dogs is named Spencer, which is Winston Churchill’s middle name. I wanted to name him Larry, but my Dad insisted on a more “dignified” moniker, so he suggested Spencer in honor of Sir Winston (one of his heroes). The irony is that Spencer (the dog) is the biggest dork on earth, so Larry would have probably been more fitting, LOL.

OK, I suppose I should contribute to the critter count here: I have two dogs, three cats, three horses, and one miniature donkey. All are rescues, save for one of the horses and the donkey, although I picked up the latter for a discounted price on the grounds that I never breed her (too bad, because she’s a fine genetic specimen).

High fives to all the animal lovers on this thread!

Count me in on the hoosier stray saving parade. Up to six cats and two dogs…possibly three this week to save another puppy. I don’t know any animal lovers who really like PETA, interestingly enough, I wonder if everyone else feels that way? Anyway, stories like this make me sick. Animals are a responsibility, as are any other animals that are produced by that animal. If you aren’t willing to commit to a pet for ten+ years, don’t get one.

Mine doesn’t hump – apparently he just didn’t learn it before he was neutered (I’m not the least bit sorry about that! ), but another neutered male has been more into humping after his operation. So, the lack of balls certainly doesn’t bother either one of them. As an added bonus, they both get to enjoy the wonderful smells of females in heat close up; no balls means more fun, actually.

Also, female dogs are more susceptible to infections after giving birth (dilated cervix and all that), so even if the birth itself is easy, giving birth is potentially dangerous. Why risk your pets life for something unwanted?

@Carena- Actually I live in Missouri, but I use the word hoosier quite often because I love the word! Indiana Hoosiers are way better than Missouri hoosiers!

I hate to hear that people treat animals that way there too, but I am sad to say that it is a very common problem in all states.

Thank you for adopting from the Humane Society! That is 5 precious, furry creatures who now have a home! I am so glad there are people out there like all of us on this thread who care about animals and can play some minor role in giving them happy lives.

I really loved this thread!

By the way, the kitten is great. I cannot wait for her to get a clean bill of health so she can be with me and my other pets. The dogs LOVE her and as little as she is, she is crazy about them. Keep your fingers crossed that she gets the OK to be with the rest of her new family!

:O I have a 6 month english cocker spaniel (blue roan) and she is gorgeous! Just had her spayed, as we did with our last cocker. I just had to google a cocker cross because I couldn’t imagine what these puppies would of looked like. This woman sounds like a complete fool, not sure how shelters etc work in America, but in Aus those puppies would be adopted straight away. I can’t believe she didn’t care for them at all though, they would of been gorgeous poor little pups..

Firestarter, I knew you were from Indiana before you even said the word Hoosier. You are right, it is ridiculous how animals are treated in rural areas of our state.

I have 5 that I adopted from the Humane Society (3 cats, 2 dogs). All but 1 was abused and neglected in their prior homes. It’s a shame how people treat animals.

They’re not only hypocrites, but they are stepping on the backs of animals to further their careers. “Ooh, doing a PETA ad will be so good for my image!”
