Courteney Cox is a control freak diva on ‘Cougar Town’ set

wenn2651073

Courteney Cox has spent her post-Friends years working on either horrible star-vehicles (like the craptastic Dirt) or as a guest star on a dying series (Scrubs). So, it’s pretty great that her new star vehicle Cougar Town is working out, right? She seems to have a hit show, although both CB and I have seen parts of episodes here and there, and we really don’t think it’s anything special. Honestly, I couldn’t stop wincing when I watched five solid minutes. I think the dialogue aims for light-hearted and silly, but everything, from the actors’ comedic timing, to the situations, to the general atmosphere, just kinds of falls flat. I actually think Cox used to be a gifted character actress – and if this is the star vehicle that works for her, God bless. But I think she could do better.

But having a hit show isn’t the only concern anymore – because if the people who work with Cox don’t enjoy basking in her presence, the show will falter and fail. Which might be happening, according to the Enquirer. Their sources are claiming that Cox is a total control freak, and the cast and crew are on the precipice of revolt:

Courteney Cox is such a control freak on the set of “Cougar Town” that crew members are asking to be switched to other shows.

“Courteney makes a huge number of script changes to make her character look good, and she is extremely picky about everything on the show,” a set employee claims.

Workers on the set try to avoid her by using their hand-held radios to warn one another if she’s in the area.

“Her code names are ‘Mother Hen’ or ‘Cougar Queen’… that seems like all we hear all day. ‘Mother Hen needs a pick-up’ or ‘Cougar Queen is on her way to makeup’… everyone jokes that it’s her way or the highway.”

One woman in craft services felt Courteney’s wratch after she made the star a ham and cheese sandwich that didn’t measure up.

“Courteney ranted at her and said, ‘Everyone knows you are supposed to have equal parts of ham and cheese in a sandwich!’”

A wardrobe worker was terrorized by Courteney when the actress exploded at her for not having five clothing options for her for a scene that was added at the last minute, said the on-set eyewitness. The wardrobe employee had offered only three.

“Courteney got so mad and told her she would be back in 10 minutes saying, ‘If yo don’t have what I requested, you’d better not show up next time!’”

Those on the set speculate that the success of Cougar Town has gone to Cox’s head. “Courteney is the star of the show and very domineering… she gives off this ‘I’m important and you’re not’ vibe.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, November 23, 2009]

I believe some of this. I know that Courteney has a reputation as a control freak, even back years and years ago. She’s very organized, very methodical, very tough on herself and everyone else. She’s even admitted that about herself, about the standards she’s set for herself, and for other people. I’d imagine that she’s a really, really difficult woman to live with, but that kind of organization might come in handy for a television show. I’m not sure if I believe the part about her berating the crew, though. I’ve read that she’s not the most pleasant person, but I’ve never heard of her being that aggressive or cruel. If it is true, she should take a chill pill. She’s starring in Cougar Town, for the love of God. If one little thing goes wrong, it’s not like anyone would even notice with all of the other sh-t going wrong on that mess of a show.

I call BS. No actress in Hollywood eats bread. The ham and cheese angle has tainted the whole story.

  2. grisgris says:

That woman has not eaten a piece of cheese in at least 10 years, let alone a sandwich.

  3. Lindsay says:

    Really creative code names…

  4. Sigh. says:

    I’m with you lucy2 —
Have ya SEEN Cox-Arquette in a bikini?
Maybe instead of a sandwich, if it was a wafer-thin sliver of proscuitto and sprinkling of low-fat goat’s cheese cradled in a bed of organically-grown greens…

They fell just short of saying she threw it at the caterer or ground her face in it.

    Shenanigans, I say!

Edit: I buy she’s a control freak (not the first in HW, btw – and she doesn’t have many more shots at this), but not the carbs connection.

  5. sarny says:

It is 1 part cheese to 3 or 4 parts meat. Then again, she probably uses a single translucent slice of meat with an equally thin slice of cheese on invisible bread.

  6. Emily says:

That eyeshadow makes her eyelids look deformed. I don’t know what she’s done, but she needs to not do that again.

  7. Sumodo says:

Lucy2 and grisgris are right. Who the heck eats carbs in Hollywood? The CREW, that’s who! Craft services is a major no-no for the skin-and-bones set. WHOA! Wait a minute! Is that a tummy bulge under Courtney’s red dress. She’s bloated! She’s eating carbs!!! Oh, the humanity!

  8. Vermithrax says:

    So she really is Monica.

  9. Catherine says:

She needs to step back from the Botox table.

  10. Westender says:

I love this site!! I swear some of the posters should do a stand-up routine! The posts are just too funny!!

  11. crash2GO2 says:

They lost me at the ham and cheese sandwich. No.way.she.eats.bread.

  12. Ron says:

I call bullshit on the wardrobe issue too. On a show like this set in present day, they probably have at least 30-40 options on the set at any given time for the lead actress. Wardrobe departments for shows like this one look like Bloomingdale’s.

  13. TwinkleToes says:

I buy that she’s on edge because this is probably her last chance at TV success. You know she just fumes inside when she thinks of Aniston’s film career. She’s probably thinking, “Why didn’t I go for Brad Pitt?” I could never understand why such a beautiful girl would go for David Arquette but she must have some issues, I guess. Someone who looks like Aniston deserves cheeseball Arquette.

  14. original kate says:

    no way she eats carbs.

  15. Sumodo says:

Remember the old “Blues Brothers” bit about a “wish sandwich?” You got two slices of bread and “you wish you had some meat!” Courteney, you WISH you had this Everything bagel I have riiiiight here (dangling it hypnotically in front of her picture)mmmmmmm, chive cream cheese, mmmmmmm!

  16. la chica says:

Courteney has always been a control freak. but she’s never had the reputation of a diva.

  17. Aspie says:

Wow if she’s a self-admitted control freak. So it really wasn’t too much of a stretch for her to play Monica on Friends then.

  18. NFLer says:

She was always my least fave friend. She looks like she can’t relax.

  19. K McFarlane says:

Twinkletoes, I find it kind of weird that you think someone has issues because they don’t chase after the most good looking man in the room. I think the opposite: if she can appreciate men for who they are rather than what they look like, it makes me think she’s a more grown up and rounded person. The opposite of being a guy who just wants to date empty headed 20 year old models.

  20. teri says:

    I like the show!

  21. Tia C says:

“…I couldn’t stop wincing when I watched five solid minutes…”

Yep, Kaiser, that was also my experience in attempting to watch “Cougar Town.” Lots of wincing. I couldn’t even pay attention to the inane storyline because I was so distracted by her creepy FACE. WTF has she done to it?! She doesn’t even look like herself anymore. She needs to stop trying so hard and figure out how to age gracefully.

  22. Firestarter says:

@Twinkle- I just don’t get the envy vibe from her.

Also, she went for David Arquette because she was in love with David Arquette and not Brad Pitt or anyone else. Pitt is not the reason for Aniston’s movie career anyway, so that has nothing to do with her success, in spite of what her detractors may say.

Looks are not what relationships are based on and frankly, that is a superficial way to look at things. Some people do fall in love with their mate because of love, not looks or money.

  23. Jag says:

Weren’t there rumors about her acting this same way when Dirt was doing well at first? Perhaps my memory’s off, but that’s what I remember.

  24. Pax says:

oh, please!!! She might be a little control freak, but she doesn’t have the reputation of a diva!! people who work with her always say she’s very kind, not bitchy at all.. I don’t believe that, she eis not the kind of person who gets nervous over a sandwich! please…

  25. crash2GO2 says:

Twinkletoes, are appearances ALL you think about? I married a beautiful man, but you know what? He turned out to be a nightmare. Now I am dating a man who doesn’t come even close to my ex in the looks department (has had his nose broken three times) but he’s so gorgeous on the inside he makes me swoon. True.

  26. Firestarter says:

Crash- AMEN! I had a gorgeous guy and he was a horribly ugly person on the inside. Hideous in fact. I’ll take quality of heart and a sense of humor over looks now, any day.

  27. Lita says:

High-five @K mcFarlane. The same attitude that *knows* it’s always the better looking one that does the dumping. Like wtf!!?? That isn’t just highschool psyche, that is 80’s-movies-about-highschool crap!

  28. crash2GO2 says:

Actually, you know what? My guy now is just as gorgeous on the outside, but in a Paul Newman sort of way instead of a Johnny Depp sort of way. And the nose adds character. It’s all about chemistry anyway. You can have the best looking person in the world as your date, and if there is no chemistry, it’s like hanging with a cold fish.

  29. rosie says:

She seems like the pain in the @ss diva type to me, but no way does that woman eat carbs let alone a ham and cheese sandwich? i can’t stand courtney cox so i’ve never watch cougar town. if someone else had her role i would probably watch.

  30. missy says:

Oh please, this is such bull.
Courteney is the sweetest person out there, the only people i heard from that they act like diva’s are the other friends actors. My god, check out http://www.meetthefamous.com, search for all their names, search for CourtNey Cox, and her actual name CourtEney, and see what people who have met her say about her (example: http://meetthefamous.com/photos-videos/details.php?story=3743), in comparison to the other castmembers. Nobody of that cast is really that cool except for Courteney Cox, that is what has been said by like a zillion of people. Its funny how tabloids and media immidiately post this bull, but nobody overhere have posted the articles made by paparazzi even (!) where they say how Courteney Cox is the biggest sweetheart, who is so down to earth, and not acting like a diva at all. Who is constantly waving and smiling to them even after a long week of work. All the paparazzipics and video’s where we can see how she even opens her carwindow for fans, while she was about to drive away, and nicely signs autographs and talks to them. Even when she just comes off a plane from LA to Washington, all tired, and even then she is so nice to take a picture with a fan. While the other friends castmembers are known for not even wanting to communicate with their fans at public events, let alone in private outings. If she is so sweet and easy to approach in private, you really believe she is like this when she is working where the whole public can see it?

Lets also not forget how the whole cast and crew of Cougar Town supported her last week, at this event of TV guides hottest stars, and everyone in the video only had to say the most amazing things about her. Would they do that if this was true?

Would she have gotten a Nat King Cole award for being the most amazing caring person when it comes to charity?

Please go get your facts straight! it’s very obvious that people overhere who believe this, are definitely not familiar with Courteney at all! except for her roles, which is called ACTING people! They love to believe this shit, and easily forget the zillions of articles posted in the last year where paparazzi, media and fans say how much of a sweetheart she is to everyone and isn’t arrogant or rude at all on the set of Cougar Town.

Go say this about Aniston who let her people hold up heavy fans infront of her face because it’s hot in NYC, and hold her umbrella when it’s raining, she even feels too good to do that herself. Or how she rudely blows off her fans and let her bodyguards send them away, while they all came to the filmset just to see her. But they almost never can as she has more security with her than the president.

No news is good news, that’s why they make something up once a year, either about Courteney’s marriage (i mean, how long have they been saying that she and David are getting divorced? Like 1999? and it’s almost 2010!!) or that she acts like a diva while i have seen with my own eyes how she treats fans and even her incredible patience with the annoying paps. And she is everything but rude.

  31. filthycute says:

how come we never hear stories like this about male actors? Geez.

  32. missy says:

For everyone believing this story, check out Busyphilipps25, on twitter, Courteney’s co-star on Cougar Town. She plays Laurie on the show, and she said this whole thing ofcourse is not true at all, that this is the most ridiculous rumor and Courteney Cox is amazing on and off set. See? and everyone here dares to say these horrible things about her? i love twitter, finally stars can have their own say! and media look ridiculous now!
