Mariah Carey annoys UK TV host by showing up an hour late, acting the diva

Mariah Carey has made a big deal about how she’s not really a diva and how the epic stories about her are ridiculous urban legends. Problem is, after she said that, she continued being a diva. Makes it a little hard to buy her hype. Mariah showed up an hour late for London’s “This Morning” show. She once famously cancelled an appearance on a breakfast show claiming she’s “not a morning person.” Ridiculous. And that “argument” doesn’t even hold here, since Mariah’s appearance was being pre-taped in the afternoon.

He has a reputation as one of the most mild mannered presenters on television. But even Phillip Schofield lost his patience following an appearance by notorious diva Mariah Carey on This Morning. The singer had agreed to be interviewed and perform her new single on the morning chat show, but infuriated Schofield and his co-presenter Holly Willoughby by turning up an hour late. She was due to arrive at 1pm but crew were left waiting around while Miss Carey, 40, – who once cancelled an appearance on a breakfast radio show saying she was ‘not a morning person’ – made her way from her hotel.

She finally arrived at 2pm – but not before Schofield had posted a series of irate messages on his personal Twitter page, which currently has 300,000 followers. Thankfully the show was not being filmed live. It was pre-recorded on Monday afternoon and will go out next Thursday. But he wrote at 1.15pm: ‘Sitting here twiddling our thumbs waiting for Mariah Carey.. la la la laaa.’

Half an hour later he sarcastically wrote: ‘Her people have arrived!’ Although there was still no sign of Miss Carey. He added: ‘Think I will give her until two o’clock.’ But he was further angered when, after finally arriving at the studios she delayed proceedings further by changing her mind over what outfit to wear. A clearly frustrated Schofield then wrote: ‘She’s changing her mind about what she’s wearing!!!!!’

When the interview was over, the presenter then said that she had apologised for her behaviour. He messaged fans saying: ‘She was subtly apologetic for being an hour late and yes, an entourage the size of Denmark’.

However, there was one last hiccup before Carey left the building. Schofield, who had earlier taken a picture of the star to upload to his Twitter page, was told by her publicity team that Mariah wanted to approve the picture first and banned the shocked presenter from using it. He wrote: ‘Going to be a delay in the posting of the Mariah pic I’m afraid. Her people have asked for picture approval. Nicely predictable eh?’

It’s vintage Mariah. You’re supposed to be thrilled if she shows up at all. Honestly I could deal with the hour late, and would probably expect that of most celebrities. Especially with Mariah’s reputation. But the whole debating over the outfit at the last minute thing would really push me over the edge. And if she’s got an entourage the size of Denmark, you’d think someone could get it together enough to make sure she’s got the outfit figured out beforehand. I would bet you anything that even though it was 2 o’clock in the afternoon, this was still Mariah’s first activity of the day, which is probably why she was so late and disorganized. Perhaps seeing the play-by-play documented on Twitter will make her a little more mindful of why people call her a diva.

They don’t have watches in Denmark?

  2. Rosalee says:

In Canada she was pre-taped for a morning show, in the piece – she was artfully reclining on beautiful day bed and the host asked her if she was channeling Cleopatra..I loved the expression on La Diva face.

  3. M says:

Well, to be fair, none of these ‘diva’s’ actually do their own schedule, other people are responsible for getting them from A to B and get paid a hell of a lot for it. Also, promotional tours are hectic, they’re in a different country every 24-48 hours…

  4. Feebee says:

She has no respect for others and their time. Problem is no-one will stand up to them.

  5. Lem says:

    Rule #1. never be late.
rule #2. don’t schedule anything I know I can’t be up for. Be honest. I am not going to make X a.m.

I will openly admit there are days when the first thing I do isn’t until 2 p.m.
but if I say I’ll be ther at 10. I’ll be on time. If you want to meet at 6; I’ll tell you know I won’t be there before 9.

  6. Lem says:

also, how does a woman who changes outfits even at the last minute allow herself to be in those tacky, horrid, swimsuits

  7. P says:

Yeah, and to be more fair, this promotional thing is part of what she does for a living. Lots of celebs put up with it and don’t mess up the host’s schedule. And don’t get me started about people who travel for a living and juggle home and work schedules without the luxury of an entourage.

  8. Essie says:

Well, this “presenter” (what is that, exactly?) should have known, given Ms. Carey’s reputation, that she would be late. Or did he not read up on her beforehand? So, I can’t give the man any sympathy. On the contrary, he seems like a jerk to me for going on twitter to diss the woman rather than deciding after 30 minutes to cancel the interview. I’m sure he could have gotten someone else to be on a show not scheduled to air until Thursday. Perhaps one of those British divas!!

  9. Annabelle says:

She shouldn’t have been late, but I think its fine that she wanted picture approval. Everyone seems to get irked when celebs ask for this, but as if you wouldn’t? Would you really want a bad picture being shown to the world? I wouldn’t.

  10. NicoleAM says:

This woman’s vanity is hilarious. I too can’t figure out how someone who puts so much thought into what she’s wearing still ends up looking cheap and tacky.

  11. Ursula says:

I find her irrelevant and not worth any one’s space.

  12. Marina says:

    @P A hectic schedule = late
This is true for anyone not just famous people. Managers, executives, consultants etc

Essie. i can’t believe you called phil a jerk. he’s AWESOME. ah remember the days when he used to crack up with fern about unintentional double entendres…i love him and his sparkley hair

  14. Tia C says:

Every picture I see of Nick Cannon, he looks so bored with her.

  15. Yae says:

(“P”…I dig it)Minus the voice, I could keep up with her schedule if I had 100+ people doing everything for me.
