Brad Pitt refuses $5 million paycheck, goes trick-or-treating instead

Inglourious Basterds Japan premiere

Several weeks ago, Radar had the only photos of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie taking their older kids out trick-or-treating in Los Angeles. Brad was dressed up like DJ Lance from Yo Gabba Gabba, and Angelina was dressed up as… like, a goth ghoul or something. I’m not sure. The kids were all dressed up, and it was cute. Apparently, it was also expensive. Meaning that Brad declined a $5 million paycheck just so he could trick-or-treat with his kids. I love the Jolie-Pitt kids too, but I would prefer the $5 million, honestly. The kids can trick-or-treat another night. The $5 million offer came from the Grand Prix Ball of Abu Dhabi, and they were going to pay Brad just for showing up as the “guest” of the Tourism Development & Investment Company.

With so many celebrities willing to attend the opening of an envelope if a paycheck is involved, a recent decision by Brad Pitt is especially impressive.

Pitt declined an invitation to the Oct. 31 Grand Prix Ball Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, and the $5 million payday that came with it, according to Life & Style magazine. Instead, Pitt was photographed trick-or-treating with his kids in L.A.

“He’s spending more time with the family and doing less of these appearances, even though it’s a huge sum of cash,” according to a source who spoke to the magazine.

James Magee, a rep for Global Event Management, confirms that the actor was expected at the affair.

“We were told he would be attending as the guest of the Tourism Development & Investment Company,” Magee told Life & Style. “But he was a no-show, and nobody seemed to know why.”

The ball, which helped raise money for the clean-water charity Fresh2o, was the culmination of a three-day event celebrating Formula 1 racing. Beyoncé, Aerosmith (sans Steve Tyler) and Timbaland all performed.

God, that sounds boring. You know what’s not boring, though? Five million dollars! Still, I’ll give Brad credit for making family time a priority. His older kids are just at the right age to really have a ton of fun with Halloween. Soon enough they’ll be too cool to hang with their parents, and they’ll be resentfully goth (Pax) or punk (Maddox) or cross-dressing (Shiloh) or building their empire (Zahara). Kudos to Brad.

Here are some nice pictures of Brad in Japan from two weeks ago that we didn’t have access to previously. Credit: Newscom/PicApp.

I bet the Newsboy hat was PISSED off at him not taking the paycheck. No wonder it hasn’t been seen lately!

His beard is a total turn off. It looks gross and dirty. Will someone please tell him to shave and start looking like the Brad Pitt that the world thought was so hot.

First, who is leaking this story to the tabloids? James Haven? I doubt it is true, he is not worth that much for just an appearance, he is not at that level of stardom. He is no Michael Jackson who even in his last years commanded huge figures for his mere presence. But I do believe that some of these appearances he makes, he is paid. Like that Gala appearance. But if am wrong and this indeed is true, why do Brangelina get paid to attend charity galas?

Watch out, in the coming weeks, we will be receiving syrupy news about these two and the sacrifices they make for their brood and the rest of the world. Aren’t those books coming out in a couple of weeks?

The beard is way disgusting. I hear it’s for a film role – can’t a makeup person glue a fake one on? Yuck.
I think spending time with the kids and having them do normal kid stuff is great. I don’t doubt that he’s a good dad who loves them.

I do have to wonder though, since he’s made charity and big donations such a part of his public image, how does one turn down $5 mil for one event? This is a guy willing to put his babies/kids on magazine covers for charity, a guy designing jewelry in an effort to raise money, and a guy who’s New Orleans project takes donations and sponsorships everywhere they can get it. To not show up for one event and earn $5 million that could make a huge difference somewhere does seem a little odd for someone who markets himself as a philanthropist.

I would bet either the dollar amount isn’t true, or there’s something else involved as to why he didn’t go.

  5. Essie says:

Brad doesn’t need $5M, he has money. What he wanted was to dress up and be with his family for Holloween. Money isn’t everything, especially when you already have a lot of it. And stop saying he was a “no show” because he never said he was going to be there.

P.S.: What “charity” gives $5M to a star to show up? That’s ridiculous. Stars should show up free for a charity.

  6. Charity is Chic says:

Ursula is totally spot on about this. There will be lots of leaked “Look at how awesome and selfless we are.” stories in the next few months.

Also, a friend of mine works the charity circuit. People not only get paid, they get first class travel and hotels. And in order to get people to donate or hand over their all important rolodex of other rich people who are willing to give, they expect big, public displays of admiration complete with humanitarian awards. The entire thing is a disgusting scam. The people basically do it to network with other rich and powerful people, to build up their reputations and to write it ALL off on their taxes.

IF it’s true (eye roll) then good for him for choosing to stay with the kids instead of taking an easy paycheck.

he certainly doesn’t need the money, and I think it’s nice that he’d rather be with his family.

but yes, LOSE THE BEARD. it looks scraggly and terrible. and it shows all of us that you dye your hair.

I agree it’s just too perfect. Two books are looming on the horizon and both paint the Jolie/Pitt paring in a negative light so I suppose the more positive press you can generate the less of a blow when the books are on the shelves. We will see them in the hot zones for the next few months spreading Jolie/Pitt magic then it will be back to speculating about La Jolie’s “diet” and which country will the next child will spring forth from..

  9. Madelyn Rose says:

Yes Brad, we get the message you’re sending: you’re a saint and oh so selfless. Ursula, you took the words right out of my mouth! In the coming weeks there will be many stories planted about how wonderful these two are. Because when Andrew Morton and Ian Halperin’s books come out, people are going to be shocked. Angie is a heroin addict; always has been and sadly, probably always will be. Even the E! news folks have been writing about her “mystery diet” lately.

  10. Cheyenne says:

That “mystery diet” consists of a daily quart of human blood. And she participates in ritual sacrifice of one gerbil per day to Beelzebub and practices satanic rituals with Brad and the kids. Never a dull moment in the Jolie-Pitt household.

    That oughta make your day.

It’s amusing how the haters say all Brad and/or Angelina fans are insane but it’s they who go into a tizzy anytime there’s a story about them. I don’t see the point in getting so angry over a story that’s most likely false. I can’t imagine anybody paying a $5 million appearance fee especially for a charity event. I can’t remember the last time they went to some kind of opening event. They don’t just show up to a bunch of random restaurant, hotel, etc opening like other celebrities do. They go to some political events but I doubt they get paid to attend. Brad being a huge art fan, the MOCA event is something that they would have attended anyway. Besides if they were paid to go, the event organizers would have wanted their money’s worth (redcarpet, attending the dinner) But Brad and Angelina didn’t do either.

Come on, it’s sweet that he’d rather be with his kids on a night that only comes once a year. You can bet if he’d taken the $5 mill (it true) and ditched the kids people would be incensed.

I don’t think having facial hair is THAT bad. Gee, some of you ladies(?) make it sound like the most horrendous fashion faux pas. I dont like Brad’s hair, but then I dont hate it. I dunno, its just another look I guess.
My man is still growing his fledling beard out for no shave november. Its the longest I’ve ever seen it and I like it. Its slighly scratchy and I love nuzzling my face in it! Its also gotten quite long in a short period of time, considering he is bio Irish, and they’re very hairy men. Also, I noticed his facial hair holds the scent of his body wash longer and it smells …like…..manly, I guess. And its red! his head hair is black so it looks interesting to come in a different color. I just like it! As if you couldn’t tell! And its not a goatee, it goes from his chin to his jaw and half way up his cheek, and he does shave whats on his neck. So I suppose whats on Brad doesn’t make that much of a difference. And besides, Brad isn’t a young boy anymore, to always be clean shaven. I think when you become an older man, its just a hassle to shave and its more socially acceptable. Except to some very nit picky people.

Should he really get credit for this? He did what thousands of parents do all the time. A lot of parents take a day off work, or request the day off to take their kids out, which is an actual sacrifice to a family living paycheck to paycheck. Does anybody here think that giving up five million dollars is really a sacrifice to this family?

Not trying to hate Brad Pitt, but in perspective, this isn’t that big of a deal. He makes what, twice or three times this amount (maybe more) to make one movie? His family won’t be starving or going without anytime soon.

That explains how the paps managed to find & photo them on the dark crowded streets of LA on Halloween. Brad needed proof of his time with his kids to explain his absence at the GEM event.

No, we should not believe this story but we should believe all the negative ones when it comes to Brangelina? Do I have it right? Who knows whether it’s true or not but if the story was that he took the money rather than spend time with his kids on Halloween the usual suspects would be saying how awful he is and how the kids are just props, blah, blah, blah.

Funny that so many comments are still focusing on a beard that he could shave if he wants.. Why all the obsession on this one man and his facial hair.. Question: Why do some of you care so much? And why do you have to comment on on ALL THE TIME?.. It could be for a moviR or it could be because it is his life and he can do whatever he pleases. MY guess is the latter.. Just too funny how almost half the comments here are on a man’s goatee..

I guess Brad is the man after all. Who else on this site could generate over 30 comments because of this. I see other celebs doing some strange and interesting things. Brad grows a goatee and if you take the comments on this site that referenced it since he had it they would be well into the hundreds..

I guess the other celebs are not that interesting after all..

GOOD BRAD… DON’T SHAVE IT..KEEP IT because it is DRIVING THEM CRAZY..

I think it’s admirable that he turned down the appearance to trick or treat with his kids. That’s what a good Dad does, if they can afford it and and Brad certainly can.

I don’t believe for a minute that anyone offered him 5 million for just an appearance. That’s just a gross exageration. He’s not worth that much.

If this story is true good for him. He could have donated the money to New Orleans to build several houses. As far as his appearance, he has aged 10 years in the last 5 years. What is the mystery diet? It definitey isn’t food or the lack of it. Just my opinion.
