Here’s Robert Downey Jr. doing yet another preview of Sherlock Holmes, this time on the cover of Entertainment Weekly. I find this “in character” image a little meh, but I’ve been spoiled. The last magazine cover we got of Robert’s was Esquire, in which we can now basically draw Robert’s testicles from memory. EW doesn’t feature Robert’s moose-knuckle (rats!), but the interview is slightly more coherent than the Esquire interview. Robert talks about how he knows he’s in a good place in his life and his career, but he figures he only has a few more years left in the business. This is the new trend for celebrities: announce that maybe all things must end and hope that everyone goes “oh, no, you can’t leave!”
“I have no set plans for my future,” says Robert Downey Jr., who plays the titular detective in the upcoming film Sherlock Holmes (due Dec. 25), directed by Guy Ritchie (Snatch).
“I’ve never had it this good — this is my day in the sun — and I certainly don’t want to look a gift horse in the molars. But [my wife] Susan and I want to begin to be in our lives as much as we are in our jobs. I’d love just to sit here and say, ‘What movie’s playing tonight?’ I’d love to finish the new book about D-day I’m reading. I love painting, I love music.”
The actor, who got his comeback in Iron Man in 2008 and will reprise the role in next summer’s Iron Man 2, isn’t even sure he wants to keep acting.
“I’m f—ing really good at what I do — and have been for a long time, so I don’t waver on that,” he says. “But here’s the thing: I can only be a guy on a call sheet probably, I don’t know, maybe a couple more times. It’s something I’m so grateful to have in my palm, and yet I already see its inevitable decay.”
Or not. Then again, he says with a weary smile, “If Sherlock Holmes performs well, I could be busy for the next 5 or 7 or 10 years.”

Meanwhile, Robert has made two very important lists this week. First up, he was one the big contenders for People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive, and he got his picture in the top-ten of hot men, along with guys like Bradley Cooper and Robert Pattinson. I know CB will kill me for this (again), but for my money, Robert is totally sexier than Johnny Depp. Now, I love Johnny, I think he’s an incredible actor, and he’s beautiful and all. But he doesn’t make me need to cross my legs. Robert has, on occasion, made me hot. Like that crapfest movie he did with Heather Graham, Two Girls and a Guy. That movie is worth watching just for the sex scene, quite honestly.
The second list Robert made was Forbes Magazine’s Best Actors For The Buck. Robert was joined with Christian Bale and Shia LaBeouf as actors who made the studios the most money for the smallest paychecks. Meanwhile, the Most Overpaid Actors list included: Will Ferrell, Ewan McGregor, Billy Bob Thornton, Drew Barrymore, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jim Carrey. I think Robert still has a good decade of lead actor work, and then he’ll gracefully transition into solid character work. I actually like him better as a character actor - he gets a chance to be his quirky self, and he doesn’t have to be the straight guy.

I’d say they are at somewhat equal levels of scruffy sexiness. Though you have to admit, Johnny Depp is *always* sexy, whereas Robert Downey, Jr., when he’s not made up a bit, can looky slightly dodgy.

From a unbiased point of view, I’d say it’s pretty close, hmmmm but I think I’d have to go with RDJ for the win for his witty comments..

I don’t know I haven’t seen a bad picture of Robert, Johnny sometimes wears the most bizarre things but even then he’s hot. I won’t choose.

Whenever I think of Downey Jr. I can’t help but to get awful flashbacks to “Less Than Zero” (”paying his debt”). It wasn’t so much just that movie, but that for many many years after he seemed to play that role in real life (a coke whore).

Johnny is great and all but Robert is far sexier! Two Girls and a Guy has one of the hottest sex scenes I have ever seen, and they don’t even take any clothes off! @popcorny - you need to see more of his movies.

I must be the in the minority here, because I don’t find RDJ all that attractive. I don’t think he’s ugly or anything, but something about him just doesn’t do it for me.
I do think he’s really talented and interesting, and I’m very glad he’s gotten his life together and is enjoying this great comeback. -

I’d have to say yes. Downey has swagger and he’s come back from the dead, essentially. That makes him a far more interesting person in my book because interesting always equals sexy.

Nothing against Depp because of course he’s sexy and a great actor, but I’m definitely more of a RDJ girl. Although I have to add that I’m not grooving on his new angular look. He has lost some fat in his face in recent years, I presume just naturally from aging, and it is giving him a more severe look than he used to have. Still handsome though. And he certainly does give quirky interviews!

OMG! That photo of RDJ staring right at me is making it heat up over here!! RDJ is WAY sexier than JD - I have loved him for many years…he was my first celebrity love, and I will always have a soft spot for him. I am so excited about his comeback and sobriety - he is making the right choices for his family, and nothing is sexier than that!

I think I would pick RDJ… he just seems so…normal. I imagine Depp is like a lot of his characters in real life- scissorhands, jack sparrow, mad hatter, etc. Just a strange strange person… Almost like Bjork behind closed doors.

I think he is actually, because he comes across as more human.Now I am completely in awe of Johnny Depp and think he is one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. But I just don’t find him attractive. He’s too perfect.
Now, don’t get me wrong, everytime I hear of him doing some really nice thing, like giving that kid his hat or turning up as Captn Jack to the Great Ormonde Street Hospital, I squeee like a mad squeeing thing. But he does project a very cool, almost unreal persona, whilst RDJ is all warmth and bonkersness

Recently, I’ve come to love RDJ, but Johnny’s in my heart forever. He was the first celebrity i absolutely loved and wanted to see all his films. They are both sexy in their own ways. Orlando Bloom was my first celeb crush but it was only because of Legolas. I love Johnny in every role. They both rock and they are both very sexy!

Johnny Depp is a good actor but to honest I don’t think I’ve ever really thought of him as sexy. RDJ on the other hand just oozes sex and wit just how I like it.
