Jennifer Lopez in Allure: I’m not a monster for excercise anymore

Jennifer Lopez is trying her best for some kind of triple-threat comeback, bless her heart. She’s releasing an album, and has already got two terrible singles out, “Fresh Out The Oven” and “Louboutins”. She’s got some new films coming out over the next year, and she can still dance… although she will bust her ass when attempting any dance move other than a “Vogue” style pose. So, Jennifer has a lot to promote. Which is why she is the January cover girl for Allure Magazine. I actually like the cover shot – I find it pretty but slightly boring. Isn’t that the blouse Jennifer wore to the VMAs when she was married to Cris Judd? Probably. Anyway, here are some of the highlights from the interview:

Has Jennifer Lopez let herself go? Has she sworn off the gym and calorie counting? Of course not — but she has chilled out, now that she’s a 40 year-old mother of twins Emme and Max, 21 months (their dad is her husband Marc Anthony).

“I’m not the monster I used to be in the exercise department,” Lopez says in the January issue of Allure. “You get past your 20s, you’ve got kids…you’re kind of unmotivated.”

The famously curvy singer-actress admits, “You want to be healthy and look good, but you want to do the least amount to maintain that.”

When she does need to hit the red carpet or a performance stage (as she did at November’s AMAs, where she slipped off a male dancer’s sweaty back), the star practices a more vigorous and frequent gym routine. Food-wise, Lopez says she’s a “big portion control person.”

The star also offers Allure some frank insight into the childhood roots of her ambition: the unintended absence of her dad. “My dad worked nights and slept during the day, so we never saw him much,” she says. “He was a wonderful, loving father…but even so, I would lie in bed at night and tell myself over and over ‘I know my daddy loves me.’ I wondered about it…if because of his absence he didn’t care about me or about us. And believe me, my dad was the best. But these little things happen to you when you’re younger.”

Jennifer also discussed husband Marc Anthony, describing the differences in their talent. Or should I say “talent”? No… Marc does have a beautiful voice. Jennifer thinks so too, saying, “It wasn’t like it was with Marc, who opened his mouth at age three and was blessed with a voice from God. That wasn’t me. I had to work at it, but I knew that once I had achieved it, people would respond to me in a certain way.” Jennifer also says that she’s tried to get Marc to quit smoking, but that “you have to let a person do his thing.” And finally, Jennifer discussed her feelings on the paparazzi, saying “It’s a business. Once they stop making money off of you they stop coming around.”

Here’s the thing – I love Jennifer. I always have. She’s a diva, she’s pleasantly crazy and delusional, and I have no doubt she would shank me if I pissed her off. While I don’t think that highly of her singing “talent” or her wasted acting talent, I think Jennifer is a great old-school celebrity. She does work her ass off, and it’s so much fun to chuckle about Jennifer’s latest career escapade. Diva! Love it.

  2. audrey says:

@ alibbeebee: What are you, 12? Leave that “first” shit to Perez’s site, por favor.

  3. Sumodo says:

J-Lo is an empire, not just a singer. What does she have to care about except making money? I may not like the way her husband looks, but when he sings, like he did on George Lopez’s show last month? The voice of an angel!

  4. Annabelle says:

    Gah!!! What a man face!

  5. Annabelle says:

Oh! And remember when her oven song was leaked and she denied that it was a single- claimed it was just demo stuff or whatever? Her handlers shoulda stuck with their instinct that it was embarrassing and not release it

  6. alibbeebee says:

I dont watch perez- he is crap and me writing First was in no way to say that i was first in posting a comment I had other points to say but pressed enter too soon so that shit as you put was not shit at all ..

secondly: She has been missing from the limelight she is trying to reclaim it, I find that her path will be difficult, she has been missing too long others have filled the void. when we wanted to know about what was going on in her life she was either silent or absent. and when she was silent she wasn’t too nice about it. and now you want accollades? sorry to little to late.

oh yes and Thirdly – Audrey~ please do not insult my age or my intellect.
    have a wonderful day!

  7. Firestarter says:

    No, she’s just a monster.

  8. filthycute says:

    Can’t stand this beast.

  9. Cinderella says:

I think she should leave the singing to her husband. My ears can’t take anymore from her.

  10. Squirrel says:

Close the blouse darling, you’ll catch cold. Also, nobody wants to see it. Really.

As for the second picture… looks like a bird accidentally landed in your hair and lost all its feathers in a panic to get out. Bet that poor dead bird is in the weird pouch you are wearing on your back. Yuk.

  11. Kevin says:

She looks damn good in that mag cover. Wonder how much they manipulated it. If she wants to start dancing again she better start working out. I believe her fall was directly attributed to being out of shape. I haven’t heard the fresh out the oven tune. Is it about her kid?

  12. QB says:

She is not a singer , she is a brand. The only good thing about her brand are her perfumes because her clothes( I think they closed the clothing brand)are ugly and tacky and I think her restaurant closed down too.

If you want to talk about a latina building her empire , lets talk about Gloria Estefan , she owns restaurants , writes children books ,hotels, part of a football team and she is currently going to invest a couple of millions in Puerto Rico because she wants to help the Puerto Rican economy since they have allways supported her. Plus in her last concert she gave 100’s of tickets away to people who haved lost their jobs because of the economy.

More Estefan’s and less JLO, or Lola whatever name her husband gave her now.

  13. javelin says:

“bless her heart”, hehe. J.Lo’s efforts are indeed entertaining.

  14. Andrea says:

    You spelled “exercise” wrong.

  15. ogechi says:

i love J-LO, and i wonder why some of u like ugly and weired ANGELINA JOLIE and end up envying pretty, humble and hardworking JENNIFER LOPEZ. Jenny made me a woman i am tday. she inspired me to be focused, hardworking and she also made me know that nmata your background u wld get dia someday. And i think alot of African women have risen bcos they drew inspiration from pple like OPRAH AND JENNIFER LOPEZ. I will buy any of her albums, nmata how bad or good they are.

Besides who is saying abt Jenny marrying ‘ugly mark’. That is the most irritating statement i have come across. What has marriage got to do wt physical appearance? Marriage goes beyond appearance and that is why many marriages are hitting the rocks these days bcos pple are leaving the substance and pursuing shadows. Jlo chose a man she wants to live with for the rest of her life and u feel bad abt it? so so bad!!!

  16. crazydaisy says:

I agree she looks great, and also about her acting talent. Every movie I’ve seen her in she totally shines. It’s always kinda a surprise for some reason (maybe the “brand” business, or the Diva business). But it’s true. That J-Lo can really act.

  17. lena says:

@ ogechi, lol get the hell outta here with that nonsense…African women did not draw inspiration from JLO… i’m not hating on you for being a fan, but that comment is ridiculous

JLO has done well for herself like it or not, she is a hard worker
