Is ‘Inception’ like an artsy-fartsy ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’?

With the massive success of the Batman franchise, writer/director Christopher Nolan can basically write his own ticket in Hollywood. And that’s exactly what he did – he wrote and directed the film Inception as his follow-up project to The Dark Knight. I didn’t know much about Inception before I saw the trailer… and I still don’t know much. It seems like it’s one part The Matrix and one part Nightmare on Elm Street. The line “Wake me up!” seems terrifying. What. The. Hell?

Watch Leo DiCaprio become the Morphius to his assistant, Ellen Page’s Neo, as he and his well dressed team of brain-busters attempt to rob your mind. The latest Christopher Nolan Inception trailer is out.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a powerful CEO, Page as his assistant, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a khaki suited bad-ass and Ken Watanabe as the bad guy. The basic plot is being heavily guarded and all imdb has to say about the picture is that, “A CEO-type becomes involved in a blackmailing scandal.”

But from the trailer I think it’s safe to say that this blackmailing is at least happening from inside someone’s thoughts, because “your mind is the scene of the crime.” Also, is Page screaming “Wake me up!” at one point?

Out in theaters July 16.

Everyone is like “oh, it’s so avant-garde and trippy” but it really does some like the premise is artsy-fartsy Nightmare on Elm Street. Oh, our nightmares come true! I don’t know about you people, but I’ve never had a nightmare that I’m falling in beautiful slow motion into a bathtub. I have nightmares where I’m being chased by a masked man trying to inject with me with something. I know, I know. It’s all very Freudian, and the needle is a penis, et cetera. It would still make a better a movie than this water-logged mess.

Of course, it’s possible I’m being too harsh… it could be cool. Maybe.

I absolutely love the fact that the trailer doesn’t give that much away. A lot of the time you go to the movies and you’ve seen the best scenes and know all of the damn story already. Go Nolan!

Can’t wait to see this movie, love Di Caprio -I think he is one of the few actors of his generation that deserves an academy award- and the whole Nolan’s filmography, except Batman begins.
Ellen Page has the typical face of THE victim.
    Everything sounds perfect to me.

Add a big helping of Alex Proyas’ Dark City to the mix, too.
I’m very apprehensive about Inception as Dark City is one of my all time favourites. Oh well, the former has Cillian Murphy (*drooling*) and the latter had Rufus Sewell (*excessive drooling*) so I guess it evens out on some levels.

That’s…not even remotely what I got out of it. DiCaprio’s voiceover is all about ideas, not nightmares. Also, “artsy-fartsy”? Are you my 90-year-old grandmother?

Angel, that was my first thought as well!
Finally a trailer that doesn’t give away the entire plot of the movie in two minutes. I might just go see it.

I’m crossing my fingers and hoping it’ll be good. Mainly because Cillian Murphy’s in it, and I can’t help but watch anything he’s in, as he’s amazing.

It can only be horrible if that one-note wonder Ellen Page is in it…she’s so obnoxious!

From a story point of view or an outline, it’s a crap trailer. What the hell is going on?

I saw the trailer to this when I saw Sherlock Holmes the other day, and it made me more confused than if I hadn’t seen it.
@piedlourde, I’ll join in drooling over Rufus, I love that man!
