My mother was so upset when I called and told her this – Michael C. Hall is currently undergoing treatment for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but is in “complete remission.” Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, basically a cancer in your lymph system (I’m not a doctor, I’m not sure how to be more precise). The symptoms include: night sweats, sudden weight loss, swollen lymph nodes, enlarged liver and/or spleen, back pain, and even more. And now I’m such a hypochondriac I’m sitting here thinking I have it too. Ugh, I hate Wikipedia sometimes. Anyway, if it’s caught early, the chances are very good that someone will make a full recovery. It sounds like Michael C. Hall is already well on his way:
“Dexter” star Michael C. Hall is undergoing treatment for cancer and the disease is in remission, a spokesman said. “I feel fortunate to have been diagnosed with an imminently treatable and curable condition, and I thank my doctors and nurses for their expertise and care,” Hall, 38, said Wednesday in a statement.
The actor was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of the body’s immune system. The disease is considered highly treatable with the potential for full recovery.
Craig Bankey, a spokesman for the actor, said the cancer is in complete remission and Hall’s treatment will continue as planned.
When Hall was diagnosed and the name of the Los Angeles-area health facility where he’s undergone treatment were not released.
Hall plans to attend Sunday’s Golden Globe awards and the upcoming Screen Actors Guild ceremony with his wife, actress Jennifer Carpenter, who plays his sister on Showtime’s “Dexter.” Hall is a nominee at both awards shows for his role as Dexter Morgan, a serial killer working as a blood-spatter expert.
Bankey said Hall will return to production on the drama’s fifth season later this year.

Over the holidays, I finally got around to watching the first three seasons of Dexter. My mother had been raving about it for a year, and once I got into it, I was totally hooked. It’s not the best show, but it’s interesting, compelling and at times oddly moving and hilarious. Michael C. Hall does an incredible job at the title character, a serial killer, family man and best big brother in the world. But for my money, I love some Sgt. Angel Batista (actor: David Zayas). And James Remar is always amazing. Anyway, it’s good to hear that Hall is so upbeat about his recovery, and hopefully the lymphoma will stay in remission forever. I’ll be looking for him at the Globes!

NOOOO!! Not my Dexter! Damn 2010 already. I really really hope he’s better and I’m sending him and Karen all my best.
Kaiser, Season 4 was hands-down the BEST. I can’t wait to hear your opinion when you get caught up!!!

I’m such a fan of this guy. If you think he’s great in Dexter, check out his work in Six Feet Under. He was robbed, ROBBED, I tell you of awards! So amazing as David. Get better soon Michael!

I saw the 1st 2 seasons of Dexter over the summer. One of the best dramas hands down! He is amazing! (And incredibly sexy) This is a shock, but I;m glad to hear he’s doing well. Get well, psycho!

He’s always great as Dexter even if the show sometimes isn’t. I hope he’ll be fully recovered soon.

He was wonderful on SFU as David, and just as wonderful on Dexter. I love that the two characters are polar opposites.
I hope MCH is feeling a lot better very soon.

I saw this article on Yahoo! and was curious as to the reporting. The cancers are usually either called Hodgkin’s Disease or non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Hodgkin’s is the easier to treat, so maybe it’s just a shorthand explanation.
Either way, I’m glad he’s doing well. Life has a way of giving and taking away.

Hall is a fantastic example of a real actor. He doesn’t famewhore, he doesn’t boast. If you watch him in interviews he seems almost uncomfortable. Like most of us would be.
And he is extraordinary in his work. Both Dexter and Six Feet Under.
I think Jennifer Carpenter is also an amazing actress. If you watched Season 4 of Dexter you probably noticed how fantastic she was during highly emotional scenes. Where she broke down. And I cannot help but wonder if knowing about her husband’s cancer helped her reach those levels of devastation on camera.
Either way, I hope nothing but the best for Hall and Family.

WTF, Lymphoma has two major sub types – Hodgkin’s and Non Hodgkin’s. Confusing as heck, imo and I am a survivor of Non-Hodgkin’s!
I am so glad to hear he is in remission, of all the lymphomas to have his is the most treatable and I hope he makes a complete recovery in the long term. I am a big fan of him in Dexter and also SFU and wish he and his family the best.

I just got into Dexter with a little nudging from my neighbors because they do not have cable.. Needless to say after watching the 4th season I am hooked. John Lithgow was AMAZING… I cannot wait to see the other 3…
Also could not get enough of David in SFU…Great Actor All-Around.

God I love him! I really hope he’s ok, he’s such an amazing actor. He was my favorite character on Six Feet Under and Dexter is awesome. Season 4 was so intense and engrossing. He and Jennifer Carpenter look so sweet together. He should possibly feed her more. I hope he gets better soon!

I love Dexter. And season 4 was fantastic the best so far, they seem to get better each season. If Hall and John Lithgow (who was outstanding as Trinity) do not win at the SAG & Globes I will be stunned. He was amazing in SFU as well. Hope him all the best.

Thank God he’s recovering! Yay! although I just finished season four last night, and to be fair, it blew balls big time. the Last season just annoyed me to no end. Rita was such a fricking drama queen! I thought she hated stirring up shit cause she was still ‘damaged’ from her first marriage? or second. Gah! And it seemed she was completely incapable of caring for anyone, her kids or Dexter. And I cant stand Their police cheif either. Dosent she have something better to do like catching killers than banging her detectives? or always worrying about her hair? She is a shitty actress and so is Carpenter. There! I saw Carpenter first in The Exorcism of Emily Rose and thought she is most unfortunate looking girl next to Rumar Willis. And my man doesnt like her either, she’s too skinny and we are expected to buy the idea she is strong enough to fight when the slightest gust of wind can blow her away? Not buying it.

Mrs. Darcy! I just got the news a few weeks ago I have Intermediate B-cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and am to start chemo on Tuesday morning. I am scared. I am so glad to hear of your recovery, it gives me strength.
God bless you, and all cancer victims.

Michael C. Hall is an excellent actor – I loved him in Six Feet Under and now in Dexter. This is very sad news, and I truly hope he pulls through and makes a full recovery. We need more “actor’s actors” in Hollywood like this guy, and less tabloid-wh@re, no talent “celebrities” who are famous for no reason.

Jennifer Carpenter maybe thin, but girl works out…I don’t doubt that she can be strong.

Thank goodness it is so highly treatable & curable. I just got into Dexter – always wanted to watch it but just never did until recently – and I’m loving it so far. I knew I would, but I’m still happy that I do
gg – good luck on Tuesday, sending good thoughts and lots of positive energy your way. ♥

Hang in there gg. You can get through this!! I will remember you to my higher power. I like the Dexter series very much also as everyone else has already stated. Never saw SFU. I’m digging the initials though.

That’s awesome that he is in remission now. Good for him! I’m 25 and currently in remission for Hodgkins as well, and yes it is very very treatable/curable. It has cure rate of about 80% I believe for Stage 4 patients and goes up to I think 96% for Stage 1. I met a man who had it back when he was 20….he’s 60 now and quite healthy
Anyway, I wish Michael well in his health and his acting career!
