Lindsay Lohan: meeting kids that were trafficked was “truly humbling”

36829pcn_lilocar01

Over the past weekend, a clip from Lindsay Lohan’s BBC documentary on child trafficking in India were released (video below). Let’s just that even though the clip was only a minute long, Lindsay still managed to make a fool out of herself. Some sample quotes included: “The parents aren’t necessarily in the wrong…the children are obviously not in the wrong…um…ah, the traffickers are the ones in the wrong, because they know what they’re doing, and anyone who says that they don’t know? I mean, come on.” And let’s not forget: “Didn’t you hear that children were abused, and some girls, maybe if they were attractive, were raped and prostituted?” This was in addition to Lindsay already being called out for lying about “saving 40 children” by the charity that the BBC documentary team was supposed to be working with. So, yeah. This BBC thing is a disaster, and that was before rumors of Lindsay’s seedy sex tape emerged.

This isn’t really breaking news, but Lindsay gave an exclusive statement to Us Weekly about the BBC documentary and her brief trip to India. According to Lindsay’s delusions, the film “allowed me to lend my voice to the real hardship faced by children who are trafficked” and meeting some of the kids that were trafficked was “truly humbling.” Here’s more:

Lindsay Lohan wants to make a difference.

The actress, 23, opens up to UsMagazine.com about filming a BBC documentary on child trafficking in India.

“Making this documentary for BBC3 has allowed me to lend my voice to the real hardship faced by children who are trafficked,” she says.

“The strength of the young boys and girls I met has been truly humbling, and I hope my presence in India will bring awareness to the really important issues raised in making this film,” she adds.

In a new clip released online, Lohan — who dons oversized sunglasses while being chauffeur-driven through slums — says, “The whole situation is heartbreaking because the parents aren’t necessarily in the wrong, the children obviously aren’t in the wrong. The traffickers are in the wrong because they know what they’re doing.”

Last month, Lohan Twittered about her experience.

“Over 40 children saved so far… Within one day’s work… This is what life is about… Doing THIS is a life worth living!!!” she wrote. “Oh, and I’m talking about being in India.”

[From Us Weekly]

Do you think she was really humbled? I don’t. First of all, she was barely there. I think the whole trip was something like two days, in-country. That’s not long enough for Lindsay to sober up. She probably thought the Indians were part of her normal delusions. And beyond that, since her trip, Lindsay has been creating “Lohan Mayhem” since Christmas, taking her little sister down to St. Barth, dressing up like a harem girl, smacking guys in bars, putting on weepy performances for the paparazzi. How has Lindsay “changed” from this experience. Oh, my bad. She never claimed that the experience “changed” her, just that she was “truly humbled”. Maybe she was only humbled for a minute or so.

By the way, Lindsay’s crack-tweets have been all over the Haiti situation. A couple of them even sound lucid! Well, sort-of. She’s trying to get information out about donations and stuff, so bless her heart.

Those pictures of her are just gross!

  2. joe says:

    she is totally crook.

  3. hatsumomo says:

Uh, how can you NOT KNOW HOW TO DONATE? I mean, she has internet access, I’m guessing, a quick three second Google search for the American red Cross or Yele Haiti Foundation isn’t that hard. unless she cant spell American…

  4. lucy2 says:

Humbling? Sure, so humbling that the next thing she did was go on a yacht vacation and then come home and jack her lips all up again.
If she really wants to be seen in a good light again, she needs to go away for a while, get truly sober, and then try again. But this nonsense only makes her look even more ridiculous and shallow.

  5. Goddess711 says:

Not enough to make any significant difference in her life or lifestyle; instead she tries to re-define herself as a partying socialite? She’s full of it and looks like hell.
Say, what’s Miz Humbled doing for Haiti? Maybe they should get her there for another documentary?

  6. Amy says:

She really does look like a worn out, middle aged woman. It’s sad.

  7. Praise St. Angie! says:

lucy2, you took the words right off of my keyboard!

so humbled that the first thing she did when she got back to the US was go to the launch party for a new “device” from a sex-toy company.

  8. Pont Neuf says:

OMG! Like, you guys are cruel! I mean, Lindz went to India which is like, somewhere in the tropics like, Antarctica, right? And then she saved like… What’s the number that goes before zero? 700? Yeah! She saved 700 beautiful girls from being like, trafficked and abused (couldn’t they traffic with like, the uglier ones?) in like, five minutes, you know?

And then… Oh wait, she then had her cocaine and crack break and then, are there are hot night clubs in like, Moscow or wherever India is? ‘Cause like, Lindz could do with causing a few scandals with local celebrities, you know? It would indubitably give a boost to her career.

OMG! Is she going to convert to Tengriism? Australian religions are like, the rave now. God, going to Greenland to save the Palestinians has enlightened Lindz SO MUCH!

  9. ien says:

what a ravishing, fresh-faced beauty she is.
am truly envious of her clear, radiant, wrinkle-free skin.
we all should aspire to have as successful a carreer and life as hers.

  10. TinaWithPom says:

    She. Looks. Terrible.

  11. Al says:

Her face is so puffy –

I looked it up (because I have too much time) and have concluded that the face puffiness is from over-consumption of alcohol and the lip puffiness… well. That was intentional.

  12. Ruby Red Lips says:

    Its all a PR stunt

Lindsay doesn’t give 2 hoots about anyone other than herself – as if she can change over the space of a few days…utter cr*p

    @ Pont Neuf…love it!!!!

  13. Sumodo says:

    Burn. Out.

  14. soxfan says:

I honestly cannot get over the fact that she “participated” in a documentary for sex trafficing, yet she shows up at the launch for a new sex toy!!! Is she REALLY that stupid???? Does she truly think that by merely lending her voice (as disgusting as it is) to something as horrific as the sex trade and then showing up for DILDOS, then she will be able to now cast herself in a more positive light???
Oh, the irony of it all is just too much to bear…

  15. Peach says:

@Pont Neuf: I could die. Effing halarious.

  16. kermit says:

I don’t see the point of this article other than Lindsay Lohan bashing which unfortunately has become fashionable. It is also not true that Lindsay dressed up as a harem girl in St. Barth. Anyway, I see Lindsay as conflicted. She enjoys a certain deviant lifestyle of debauchery and indulgence yet has a vulnerable heart and is very emotional and believes in a higher purpose in life. She craves public attention of whatever sort she can get yet gets overwhelmed by it. This is a family trait that her mother and father also display (craving attention though Dina to a lesser degree). Lindsay hasn’t figured out how to deal with her conflicts and tends to fall back into what feels comfortable and gets her attention. Not helping is Dina, who accompanied Lindsay to the adult toy bash with the “classy” Jersey Shore cast in attendance. Ali is her biggest supporter and “rock” and is remarkably sensible in being quiet and reserved with the media (post Living Lohan days). Seems clean (drug free) as well. For now. Folks, Lindsay is VERY fragile, those that care for her need to take her away from doing interviews, making public comments of any kind including twitter for awhile. For Lindsay and the Lohans it is best not to hear about Lindsay for a few months and see no paparazzi shots of her.

  17. Maritza says:

What’s with the puckering lips? Does she think she looks sexy? Her face looks fat and frankly she looks so much older than her real age.

  18. TaylorB says:

    Pont Neuf,

LiLo knows Antartica isn’t in the tropics, sheesh! It is in Eastern Europe, located between Spain and Atlantis.

  19. Praise St. Angie! says:

    Pont Neuf…brilliant.

    Taylor B, brilliant follow up!

    (ien’s was good, too.)

  20. soxfan says:

Not being snarky Kermit, but do you know her personally?

  21. rzrlvr says:

kermit…are you lindsay in disguise? LOL

  22. MARKY-MARK says:

She needs another verbal spanking from the real intervention team that was involved with the whole process. I remember they were pissed with her

  23. california angel says:

Why has no one thought to make her a spokesperson against drugs. All she has to do is show up looking like that and kids in the classroom will throw their bongs out the window and run away screaming.

  24. Goddess711 says:

Complete & coherent sentences, multiple syllable words, grammar and spelling look are mostly good…Kermit can’t be “Lindz”.

  25. lin234 says:

    @ kermit:

Reason why no one feels sorry for LL is because she’s had more chances than a cat with 9 lives and she’s pissed it all away.

Her career pretty much ended when she hijacked a car with passengers while boasting she could get away with anything because she’s a “star”.

She’s constantly in the news for stealing things, drama with other people, drama while going out, and generally shady behavior. This is why no one has any sympathy for her anymore. It’s not that hard to not go out every night looking for trouble. She chooses that lifestyle.

No one is naive enough to believe she’s not on some type of drugs and alcohol. She’s ruined her looks and career all on her own.

  26. katyusha says:

How does someone so thin have a double chin?

  27. kermit says:

Here’s the problem. Many here say she gets no sympathy because she had so many chances. Yet, there was an article on Courtney Love, who like Lindsay is thought of as strongly considered having borderline personality disorder, and the comments were mostly sympathetic. Lindsay can make a choice to accept help, that’s for sure, but in terms of just stopping drugs and somehow that’s going to make her better: not happening. Because the problem isn’t just drug addiction. The bashing I recognize as similar to Michael Jackson. Yes, a different person, different circumstances, but the public bashing and ridicule and half-truths and ridiculous scrutiny over little things feels similar. Much of what is reported isn’t true, some of it is out of context and misrepresentations or someone’s speculation of what’s behind what she does or says, some of it is just nitpicky. She hasn’t committed crimes as heinous as others yet she’s bashed like she’s one of the worse people in the world. Understanding more about her and similar women gives insight to her acting out, some of what she DOES isn’t truly who she may be. I don’t find her to be at the core such a bad person. I find a sad, very troubled, very young woman that very much needs an intervention and careful followup work because she can not help herself left to her own devices.

  28. kermit says:

Lin, before I think it is proclaimed that Lindsay has ruined her career at 23 think of Drew Barrymore, Robert Downey Jr., Eminem, Mary J. Blige, here’s four examples of drug abusers that have turned it around for now. And all of them are older than Lindsay Lohan and turned around their drug abuse at older ages. But I think Lindsay’s problems are deeper. She’s got a lot of work to do to be a productive citizen and avoid the messes she gets herself into and recognize enablers and break from them (some family members). I’m really not sure if she ever can completely turn it around.

  29. Liz says:

She looks like Boy George in the header photo.

  30. Ruby Red Lips says:

@ Kermit, with all respect, Lindsay obv doesn’t want help and nobody around her wants to help (not that she would listen to them)

She is a complete self entitled, drug and alcohol abuser who lives in LaLa land with no sense of ‘reality’

All your ‘psycho-analysing’ is a waste, she is undoubtedly deeply troubled, but unless she deigns to remove herself from her current world, which would mean admitting she has a problem, nothing about her self-centered, fake PR machine garbage is going to change

Also, I don’t remember Drew Barrymore ageing 30 years in 3 years sue to her abuse, so think Lindsay has lost her looks.

Think will be hello pron career…

  31. MooMooMooMooMoo says:

Kermit, It will be far more difficult for people to accept her if she ever turns her life around because we’ve been hearing about her shit on a daily basis for years now. Back in the days of Drew & Robert Downey Jr e.t.c the media situation was different. She’d need to go and disappear for a few years before coming back to even have a chance as an actress.

I agree with you about cutting her some slack because she is so young, and I was her once and i’m a changed person now but it took until I was 26! She’s just lost and doesn’t get it yet.

  32. la chica says:

what’s sad is that her level of notoriety has become no different from that of the Tila Tequilas and the cast of Jersey Shore. pathetic.

@ Kermit: i don’t understand why you persist in making it OK that Lindsay’s 16-year-old sister is being put in the parentified role. i think that this is going to mess up Ali as well. if anyone is going to be a substitute parent, why not the older brother Michael? why isn’t he concerned about his sisters?

  33. lin234 says:

It’s people like you who enable her to keep living her life the way she does because nothing is ever really her fault. Coke in the pants? It was just a friend’s pants she borrowed… Not completing her alcohol classes after given one extension after another? She has a busy career!!!

It’s not just about drugs. She thinks she can get away with anything and she has so far. Hence, no sympathy for her.

The people you have mentioned have all established their career, fortunes, or else had family connections, fortunes to fall back on. Lindsey was on the rise but I doubt she really saved the money she earned. She had Mean Girls but hasn’t had a huge hit since then. She’s worked with the likes of Meryl Streep who has given her advice and LL has basically ignored everything.

It seems like when she is around, things go missing or else copied. She’s probably spent most of her fortune and the more desperate she gets for money, the tackier she becomes. She has done some heinous things like hijacking a car with people in it. Constantly stealing is considered to be quite a problem too.

She is supposed to be an actress. Actresses are largely based on their looks. She’s pretty much tampered with her once pretty face to the point that she looks like a bitter divorcee in her forties. There are millions of prettier, eager, young, fresh girls out there willing to take her place in Hollywood in a heartbeat. Despite what Drew Barrymore and others may have done in their earlier years, paparazzi and internet gossip sites weren’t around to keep instant tabs for gossip fodder. It’s a completely different game. Not to mention Drew and Downey maintained their looks. (Downey is a man and talented enough to get away with aging.)

    Her career is over.

  34. Cindy Kennedy says:

Unfortunately, child trafficking is how a lot of kids wind up on the international adoption market. A lot of stolen children are sold to orphanages, then adopted by parents in the U.S. or Europe.

This is why I think international adoption should be heavily regulated or should even be banned completely. I get so tired of hearing how people think international adoption is such a great thing. They have no idea of what a sleazy and crooked business it really is!

  35. Beth says:

If these pictures aren’t a “Just Say No To Drugs” ad I don’t know what is.

  36. cultofskaro23 says:

…okay, at first i was entertained by this in the way you would a trainwreck or car crash. but looking at these pictures, and reading about lindsay like this…..I just feel sorry for her.

Someone needs to get this girl some help. Change her diet. get her into a real rehab program, maybe have her do something with Food Not Bombs, or Oxfam. let her dry out or something.

  37. Dhavy says:

Are the British living under a rock?

Why would anyone in their right mind have Lilo represent a charity?

She looks like a crack head

  38. WYIJM says:

It’s clearly not the popular direction on this board, but I do feel very sorry for her. Lilo used to be a beautiful talented actress who spectacularly messed up her career, looks, health and reputation. Yes, it’s all self-inflicted, but that doesn’t make it any less sad. Needlessly bashing those who are already down doesn’t make you a better person, but apparently compassion isn’t very popular here.

  39. Ruby Red Lips says:

    Dhavy, I am British & I assure you I don’t live under a rock…

nice sweeping generalisation there…..take it you are American!!!! [sic]

  40. serena says:

she’s ridicoulous, really. and what with that double chin? O_O she has no more talent, no style, she is even ugly now (with that NEWs lips and cracked face), plus a shitty-idiotic personality.. what is left to her? Some pratic sense.. I bet now the only career left to her is in porn, ‘coz nobody wants her now. Maybe she have to change lifestyle or does she wants to ends up in the main newspaper like “dead and cracked with no more chance” ? It’s disgusting.

  41. Pam says:

The most effective comments are the short ones. Geez.

Lindsay Lohan is involved in political causes because she has social and financial access to them.

  42. kermit says:

La Chica: fair point about Ali. I should not put the weight of taking care of Lindsay on Ali’s shoulders and should show more concern about Ali’s development as a teen to woman but it seems this happening by default as their parents make things worse and Lindsay keeps losing friends (by her own actions). I think Michael Jr. stays out of the limelight by design and hopefully he provides some behind the scenes support for both Lindsay and Ali.

  43. drewmeister says:

She looks absolutely horrific. Yes, I know they snap a million pictures of celebs to get the worst shot possible, and the good pics are retouched or photoshopped, but holy shite.. That first photo looks like someone’s grandmother.

I feel bad for her. It looks as though she’s had her soul sucked out with a shop-vac.

  44. la chica says:

    @Kermit:
that it’s happening by default doesn’t make it right. and if it were a non-celebrity child, DSS might already have intervened. is Ali going to school in LA? is Lindsay taking responsibility for home-schooling her sister now?

yes i understand that both Pa and Ma Lohan are negative influences, but Ali still needs parenting and Lindsay ought not to putting her younger sister in the role of taking care of her bec she is afraid to sleep alone. that’s why therapists exist. and fans need to stop enabling Lindsay’s dysfunctional behavior.

  45. CB Rawks says:

@Ruby: Dhavy obviously meant that it seems impossible for anyone not to KNOW about Lindsay Lohan. That she is stuck doing a perpetual walk of shame, and can’t string a coherent sentence together.
Therefore how could anyone have wanted her help for a charity?

  46. jaundicemachine says:

As CB can attest, I’ve spent a lot of time ranting about Lindsay Lohan re: India, but I found this snippit to be the most poignant –

Lohan — who dons oversized sunglasses while being chauffeur-driven through slums. . .

Having backpacked across most of India, and taking special consideration to educate myself and be respectful of Her rich and vast culture, I think this simple observation is pretty damning.

It’s incredibly voyeuristic (exploitive?) to tour the slums of Dharavi, as many just do it for “shock appeal” and throw their money at any opportunistic “tour guide”.

But it takes a special kind of narcissism to tour Dharavi in designer sunglasses, in a luxury vehicle.

    Absolutely. Disgusting.

Ps – Tweeting about trying to find information on donations to Haiti? BITCH. PLEASE!

  47. kermit says:

La Chica: yes, Ali should be at least getting quality homeschooling and she does need parenting and probably lots of guidance and therapy. I think not only has Lindsay put her in a bad role as Lindsay’s caretaker to some degree, Michael Sr. and Dina have as well. Ali seems to float btwn LA and NYC. You’re points are all valid. Enabling is destructive as well as too much public bashing. Lindsay and team Lohan need to find long-term approaches of dealing with Lindsay’s serious problems that don’t compromise Ali.

  48. NicoleAM says:

As someone who has been diagnosed w/ a borderline personality, her behavior isn’t an excuse. And if little ol’ non rich/famous me pulled the sh*t that she has, I’d be either in court mandated rehab or behind bars. My mother is struggling to help me pay for my expensive therapy etc, and here’s this girl w/ all the money and resources to get the best help available. I’m 26 and I haven’t finished college, and I do worry about being able to support myself in the future. So, feel sorry for her? No, I don’t think so, my sympathy only goes so far.
And somebody please tell her to cut back on the injections. I didn’t think it was possible for lips to look bloated.

  49. hannah says:

    NicoleAM,

THANK YOU! i do get tired of people who come up with excuses for celebrities all the time. yes, its very possible that she has a serious disorder, but she still needs to be held accountable. otherwise, nobody needs to be held accountable! everybody has their reasons/excuses for doing stupid things, even if somebody is truly evil on the inside, that is a mental illness (sociopathy)so they also wouldn’t be held accountable. yes, it is tragic, but she has so many things ata her disposal to help that so many will never get…its hard to have pity.

  50. skeptical says:

wow… why would they deliberately show linds being driven around like that? why shoot through car windows at a scene where it looks like cars are very uncommon? way for both linds and the tv station/whoever is “in charge” here to look like stuff-shirted morons.
really makes lindsay look separate from the poverty she’s surrounded by.. it reinforces her Outside Observer status… wonder whose idea that was.

slightly off-topic.. anyone here hear about lindsay’s last twitter-breakdown? old news by now but i want some CB commentary! Dlisted’s snark too but i can’t get registered over there.

seems it was cleaned up quick but Lainey caught it, has a screencap of the tweets, vid link on her site.. and seems TMZ did too. And that’s it?

Edit: my bad.. lainey direct link:http://www.laineygossip.com/Lindsay_Lohan_accused_of_ripping_off_designs_and_cut_loose_by_Samantha_Ronson_08jan10.aspx?CatID=0&CelID=99

  51. Lita says:

You don’t have to be excusing someone’s behaviour to feel compassion for them. LL is a pointless mess and needs serious correction but still, I feel pity for anyone in a bad place.

With respect I think that LL was unfairly bashed over the “some of the pretty ones get prostituted” thing. I have read about child slavery and had some more emotionally impacting firsthand experience (of limited scope); they *do* favour more attractive children for that sad fate. It isn’t like she said “only pretty girls get raped” or such. And (can you tell I only just watched the vid ;o) yeah so she was wearing her sunglasses while being driven in a slum. The ‘chauffeur driven’ bit makes it sound like she was in a gold plated stretch limo or something. I’ve worn my sunglasses in all sorts of sunny places where the locals are abjectly poor. Shockingly I’ve even driven in some of them! Quelle horreur! I would think that anyone whose visited a developing nation has as well. There are so very many things to rag LL for – I just don’t see this as one of them.

  52. la chica says:

thank you Nicole. i appreciate your honesty. this is exactly my point. BPD is not an excuse for her behavior. it may be a partial explanation (drugs being the other part) but she needs to seek help, not hide behind enablers (which also include fans tweeting and texting her that she is so great and that it is SamRo and others who are bad).

@ Kermit: i disagree with you on the bashing. when you’re a complete attention wh*re, even negative attention means that people are talking about you. even this thread with all of its honesty will feed into HoHan’s narcisssism. if she didn’t want to be discussed, she would not be so dedicated to living her life in front of the papparazzi.

  53. kermit says:

La Chica: We’ll have to agree to disagree, because this article as well as others do bash Lindsay Lohan. And some comments are unnecessarily cruel to not only Lindsay, but anyone displaying similar behavior. Lita’s points are great and I’m glad she made them, I do feel compassion and not disgust for much of Lindsay’s situation but don’t condone in any way her behavior or how she chooses not to get help for her BPD (I feel most of her behavior is part of BPD). Not to excuse any of Lindsay’s behavior, I just want to put out there that it goes far beyond her choosing consciously substance abuse and addiction and drama in to much deeper mental issues with family enmeshment and codependence also at play. And it is absolutely the case that she so far has refused most help available to her. She is however still young.

  54. WTF?!? says:

“Lindz” thrives on off-screen drama and negative attention, she and no one else is responsible for the backlash. Twenty-three years old is an adult, and since reaching her majority she’s had numerous warnings and chances and repercussions that she has refused to learn from.

If the girl doesn’t want to be “bashed”, she needs to stop publicly engaging in behaviour that garners her that reaction, and– most especially– dragging her no-talent, already-a-plastic-surgery-victim younger sister into it.

Ali will be an even bigger mess than Lindsay once her sister dies of an overdose and she realizes she never was anything more than the train wreck’s sibling, with no education and no real possibilities for fame on her own (unless she holds up a liquor store).

PS The coke-bloat in these pix seems to indicate organ failure isn’t far off. Between the puffiness and the glitter, she looks like Liza Minnelli circa 1986.

  55. la chica says:

last word: Lindsay will change when she seeks mental health help for her BPD, and when she starts learning how to take accountability for her own behavior. it would help if she didn’t have enablers who mean well but are actually helping to prevent her growth.

  56. kermit says:

wtf: re Ali. Prognostication of Ali being a mess so far have not be borne out. She’s clean and may not have the same issues as Lindsay in the future. What you may say can indeed happen but I find too many people already declaring she’ll be a mess or won’t have some measure of success in show biz. Her height, slender figure and looks alone may help her in her modeling career if she chooses to go that route.

  57. SixKitty says:

WOW! I thought she was in her early twenties, but clearly she is in her late thirties/early fourties by those pictures!

  58. ogechi says:

“The strength of the young boys and girls I met has been truly humbling, and I hope my presence in India will bring awareness to the really important issues raised in making this film,”

i believe so too my dear, wish you more strength.
