Glee casting news: Jennifer Lopez as lunch lady & Neil Patrick Harris cameo

We may have to wait until April to see what happens next on uplifting high school dramedy Glee, but at least there’s some casting news to tide us over. Glee creator Ryan Murphy has confirmed that he’s writing a special role for Jennifer Lopez as a cafeteria lunch lady. There’s no confirmation from Lopez’s camp, but if it involves a hair net the idea is likely to be nixed:

Jennifer Lopez’s next role may be a lunch lady in the Golden Globe-honored Glee.

Show creator Ryan Murphy said backstage after Glee won for best comedy or musical TV series that he’s hoping the 40-year-old star will accept an offer to make a guest appearance.

“I have a meeting with Jennifer Lopez in a couple weeks,” Murphy said Sunday night. “She wants to come on. We want her to be a cafeteria lady.”

Murphy says the interest in being on the show from A-listers like Julia Roberts and Julianne Moore is “amazing.”

He gave a sneak preview for when the series returns in April.

“We are shooting right now a Madonna episode, a tribute to Madonna,” Murphy says. “She may or may not be in the show. We are doing a great number with Jane Lynch and Olivia Newton-John. They are going to do ‘Physical.’”

Oh I would love to see Jane Lynch and Olivia Newton-John do Physical! That sounds incredible. Lopez I could do without, though. I’m pretty much over her, and a lot of commenters on People’s website agree. To be fair to Lopez, she did help raise money for Haiti by appearing on Larry King’s two hour special last night. I love Glee and my mild dislike for Lopez won’t cause me to tune out. Maybe Lopez’s demands will derail a potential deal anyway.

Meanwhile EW reports that talented Broadway veteran and fan favorite Niel Patrick Harris is slated to make an appearance on Glee in May – in an episode to be directed by Dollhouse creator Joss Whedon. Now that’s casting I can get behind.

Glee took home the Golden Globe this year for best comedy and will be returning in April for 9 more episodes of the current season. The president of the Fox network announced last week that it has been renewed for a second season.

Powder that is two shades too light for your skin and flashlight don’t go together. I think Beyonce , Rihanna and JLO share the same powder.

Im absolutely sure that it wont happen when Lopez ridiculous demands will not be met.
Its always the wanna be’s like her who demand the most….

Squee! NPH in a Whedon-directed episode?! Glee can’t get back here fast enough.

I am the only person in the world who does not find this show funny.

I have tried to like it, but I just (don’t hit me!) hate it.

I think it’s Joss Whedon, not Josh Whedon.

NPH yes! Joss yes! JLO no! Actually, watching her have to dress as a lunch lady might be funny, but I’m terrified she’s going to use it as an opportunity to “sing” and that I can do without. The voices of the cast of Glee are so great, JLO would sound like a drowning goat next to them.

I wasn’t sure about this show the first time I watched but have realised it’s impossible not to love it, I’m totally hooked. It’s not a classic comedy like Modern Family, it’s so much more.

I’d pay to see Jane Lynch and Olivia Newton John do ‘Physical’ together

@ lucy2: That horror might go something like this: Lou-baaaaaa-tins, Lou-baaaaaa-tins! Barf.

  9. snowball says:

I watched a clip of Josh Groban on the show and thought it was cute, but I never seem to remember when it’s on.

I just need to Tivo it, so I don’t have to find it when I’m having brain issues.

  10. Raven says:

I haven’t watched this show, but maybe I should. It is clearly winning the awards.

  11. Alarmjaguar says:

Yay, Glee! But I’m not sure they need to use all these cameos, the cast and show are excellent without the gimmicks, but hey, whatever it takes for Fox to keep it on the air

  12. Lisa says:

Oh PUH LEEZ!! We all know Jennifer Lopez only showed up for publicity. When have you heard of Jennifer Lopez and charity in the same sentence. This woman doesn’t care for no one but herself!

  13. LakeMom says:

JLo…meh. I can’t think of a single thing she could bring to Glee.

The news I’m waiting for, when the heck are they going to sign Idina Menzel for an appearance???
