Hayden Panettiere goes red, looks a lot older

 Temple Grandin HBO Premiere

Granted, I’ve never been a big fan of Hayden Panettiere, but this is not a good look for her, right? I mean, I like red hair, I love gingers, but not every woman can pull off red. Hayden is 21 years old, and as many have pointed out, at times her styling is that of a middle-aged woman. Except middle-aged women now dress to look 21 years old, and 21 year-old women dress like 40-somethings. The world is turned upside down! But seriously, Hayden looks like she’s about 35 years old with that red hair and that styling. Her makeup is flawless though. Maybe too much – but still, it’s good work.

Why’d Hayden Panettiere ditch her blonde ‘do to become a redhead?

“Because I could!” the Heroes star, 21, told UsMagazine.com at the NYC premiere of Temple Grandin Tuesday night. “I was tired of being a blonde and being… you get stuck in one thing and known for one thing and as a cheerleader or whatever that image.”

Continues Panettiere,”It’s fun to change things up, and I feel I don’t have to overcompensate as much personality-wise when I have red hair as I do with blonde hair.”

Panettiere says the new look suits her better.

“I’m typically a very fiery person anyway, but I just feel like cute and blonde and little is just so one category and one thing and changing my hair color, I feel like I don’t have to overcompensate so much for the fact that I don’t like being called cute or anything like that — especially being all 5-foot-2 of me,” she told Us.

The actress also told Us that she shrugs off criticism for dating older men. (She split from Milo Ventimiglia, 32, in last February, and is currently cozying up to boxer Wladimir Klitschko, 33.)

“It just happens to be the people that I’m drawn to, and you go, ‘How old are you?’ And then it’s like ‘Typical!’” she said while laughing. “It’s just a number and it’s just on a birth certificate and whoever it may be, older, younger, blonde, brunette….”

[From Us Weekly]

Will Hayden going red be like the other major hair controversies of the past decade? And now I’m drawing a blank, because I think that Felicity stuff was more than a decade ago, and I can’t remember any other hair controversies. Like, maybe Jessica Alba going blonde? That was a dumb move. Or Britney putting on the pink wig of doom? But she was crazy, it wasn’t a styling choice. I’m at a loss… but anyway, I doubt people will care too much because people barely care about Hayden, right?

I kind of like it. She doesn’t look 12 anymore. However I don’t like it as a permanent choice for her.

Not a good look. I can’t see her having a career once HEROES is over, blonde or redhead.

I like it on her, and actually think it makes her look younger (and more interesting). Anyway, she might be one of these people who starts out with “older”-looking features, and then looks the same for the next 30 years! (which may be a good thing in Hollywood)

I’ve never seen someone talk so much about changing their hair color. I think a simple “because I wanted to” would have sufficed!

I don’t see her having much of a career either. I know she worked a lot as a child actress, but not everyone transitions well.

she looks like she is wearing a tunic from the knights of the round table and pantyhose and shoes from the golden girls. she continually looks stupid at events because she tries things that are too sophisticated for her little troll frame.

I really like the red against her skin tone – but I don’t like that style on her, especially for an event. It’s just so blah.. I’d like to see it down, or at least with some wisps or pieces in the front. Some kind of action..

Maybe she was hoping the hair change would detract from the fact that she is dating someone 10+ years older.

I think it looks great on her, btw.

I wonder if shes campaigning for the role of a young Mary Jane in the new Spiderman movie? It could explain the change to red. That was my thoughts when I saw her new hair colour anyway.

I dont like it at all, Haydens trademark was her blonde hair. Women go hours trying to get her hair colour and she flat out ruins it. What a moron.

I think it does make her look more sophisticated. She actually reminds me a little of Ashley Judd. I think this color is very becoming on her.

I’ve never paid enough attention to know whether or not I like her. But I think she’s cute. I don’t see anything wrong with the outfit and I think the red hair looks nice on her. At least she dyed her eyebrows to match.

  22. QB says:

Red looks better but she is so average , not a great actress and looks average , I don’t see a long career.

The reason people cast you as the cheerlead is not the hair is the body type she haves it. Small boobs and kind of square.

    *Bleck* fiery. Spare me.

But I get it. I’m blonde too, and the few times I’ve gone red it’s been so much fun. Had to go out and buy all new makeup and it was a bitch keeping the blonde roots down, but it WAS a blast.

I LOVE IT! And I agree with her reasoning – I’m tired of the cute blonde cheerleader look too. In fact, I never enjoyed looking at her before – she looked like such a cliche. I find her far more attractive and beautiful now. (And stop ragging on her every word – she’s ONLY 21!?! She’s got her $h!t together more than most people I know at age 43.)

She looks like I did after playing with a box of henna. I think the darker color could work for her, but I think it needs to be a little less bright with more chocolate tones. It certainly makes her look older.
